Multiple apps within WebLogic

Hi
Can multiple applications (i.e., multiple jar files representing
distinct functionality) run within the same WebLogic server
instance ? I believe J2EE supports such a model ...
thanks
-john

This isn't an issue. The only consideration is will you be asking a
single WL instance to do more than it's capable of?

  • Distributing multiple versions of an app within a single Windows Store app

The company I work for creates Point Of Sale (POS) software using Software As A Service (SAAS), so we host our clients' databases.  We do not force all of our clients to all be on the same version of our software; i.e. some clients are on version 3,
others v4, others v5, etc.  As you would expect, the database schema for each of these versions is different, so each of these clients also use a different version of our client-side app.
We are looking at making a Windows Store app that acts as a light-weight POS app that clients can use to sell their products.  The problem is, we will require having multiple versions of our Windows Store app in production; the version of the app that
the client uses must correspond to their database version.  We were initially hoping to have our Windows Store app detect which version of the app the client should be using, and then automatically update itself to the correct version, but
were told on this post that it violates the Windows Store certification criteria, so that's not an option.
It has been suggested that we put multiple apps into the Store; one for each version of our software. We really don't want to do this though, as when we upgrade a client's database from one version to the next it would require that they uninstall their current
app and install the newer versions app, causing them to lose all of their custom settings. We would like the updates to remain as transparent to the end users as possible; the store clerk shouldn't need to worry about which version their database is on so
they know which app to download from the Store.
As a possible workaround, is it ok for us to package all 3 versions of our app into a single Windows Store app, and then just have the app check at runtime which version it should run?  I assume that this is alright, since we will not be downloading
any other code or installing any software/apps, as was the case with our original solution that violates the certification criteria.  Essentially we would just have 3 different classes and determine at run-time which classes code we should run.
I know that this solution isn't ideal, as it means our app will be 3 times larger than it needs to be, and that an update to any one of the 3 versions of our software will require an update to the Store app (so potentially users may download a new version
of the Store app, even though it doesn't have any changes for the particular code version (i.e. class) that they will use), but it's one of the best alternatives we have come up with.  I just want to check that this solution doesn't also violate any certification
criteria before we go down this road.
If this is not allowed then our only other alternative might be to go with sideloading (as
I discuss on this thread) and avoid using the Windows Store all together, but we would prefer to use the Store if possible as it eliminates a lot of overhead that we would have to deal with if we use sideloading.
Any insights or suggestions that you can give are appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Mr_bigworlds, thanks for the reply.  The moderator on this post actually told me that this
would be a better forum for my inquiries.  I agree that there may be another forum better suited for this question (there are so many that I don't know about), but since this relates to Windows Store certification criteria, I don't think the Windows Desktop
Development forums are the place for it.

  • How do you download multiple apps without having to enter the password each time

How do you download multiple apps without having to enter the password each time

You don't, this is a security measure which can't be changed, however, if you purchase another App within 15 minutes your password should not be required.

  • Multiple selects() within a single VM

Is anyone aware of any contention issues when running multiple threads within a VM where each thread has it's own select statement?
I have an home grown app server that allows me to run multiple applications within a single VM. The applications are unrelated however they sometimes communicate with each other via TCP. All of them are very network intensive ( 500 messages a second where each message is around 200 bytes ). These apps are usually single threaded where the main thread is a select() loop.
Therefore, each application is a single threaded select() loop but there are multiple applications running within a single VM.
I am seeing performance issues when two apps running within the same VM try to send messages to one another via TCP. When the two apps are running on different boxes one app can send about 10,000 messages a second to the other app. However, when the apps are running within the same VM ( localhost TCP connection ) I can only transfer about 1000 messages a second.
Are 2 selectors running within the same VM a problem? Is it synchronized within the VM so that only one select can fire at a time?
I am running on a dual proc RH3 box with plenty of memory.
    Any ideas?

Works for me, though I'm trying on Windows. Test program below. I get >10,000 replies and responses per second over loopback with both "java SelectPingPong both" (one VM) and running client and server on separate VMs.
Does this program get only 1000 messages/s on Linux? What VM version?

1/ Under OS-8.02 ( on iPad Air & iPhone 5S) icons loose their thumbnail pic on home-screen,
    when multiple apps are stapled within 1 Icon ( eg 10-12 apps for " travel");
2/ same behavior, when bookmarks are placed on home-sreen - all  these icons
are turning grey !? - Feature under OS7  has been useful, as one recognizes

    Hello, Carolyn,
    - Thx, have already done so before AND have resetted in now :
->> no change in behaviour ( emty/ grey icons ); 1/ only when you open
the " container-icon" some, if you have visited them recently have this mini-

  • Multiple apps (instances) same server?

    Hi all,
Are there any known issues with having multiple apps share the same weblogic.jar file?
I have a Tomcat server that has the same app installed twice; Productive and Test.
When both are started, they seem to be unable to read from their queues. The following exception was thrown:
[Security:090398]Invalid Subject: principals=[jndi, Deployers, Monitors, Operators]
When we only started one instance (either Productive or Test) the single instance worked perfectly.
Now, we have installed both instances on seperate servers and have started both and they also appear to be working perfectly - however, it would be more ideal for us if we could get them working in harmony on the same server.
Is it not possible to share the weblogic.jar file?
              Cheers,

    barnes,
              Thanks your response.
The application (both) do create their own threads (daemons), but I can not see how they could be intertwined.
I've ran tests to make sure they do reference their own settings (memory) and all seems to be ok.
What I can't test is the internal workings of Tomcat, maybe somehow something goes awry internally there!?
When I get a chance, I'll run some more tests... If I get something working, I'll post the results here (if I get the time).
              Cheers

  • Multiple Apps for Distribution

I read the notice in the dev portal that I needed to create a wildcard App ID in order to develop multiple apps. Well before that notice came out I had already created a App ID that was pointed to a single application name.
If I create a wildcard App ID does that affect my current application? I am guessing that after I do that I will need to create new provisioning profiles. Is this all I will need to do?
    -Louie

I'm confused about this as well. I have a live app on the AppStore that does NOT use a wildcard ID. The first instruction in the new readme says to delete any existing Distribution Provisioning Profiles. I'm uncomfortable with deleting a Distribution profile for a live app.
But I need to do both an Ad Hoc and a new AppStore submission within the next week or so.

  • Connection pooling & multiple apps in single instance - many sessions

Any feedback would be much appreciated from anyone with experience already with this situation and/or can provide some insight on this:
Adhering to the trend of consolidating instances, we have a single consolidated instance with multiple apps. With connection pooling (we use apache & mod_perl), I suppose you have an option of creating some oracle db accounts that can be shared among multiple apps - that benefits you in reducing the numbers of total pooled db connections to the instance - but one very big drawback is that you have some apps, if sharing generic db userids, having access to tables they have no need to access.
On another hand, you have the option (which is the approach we've taken thus far and, in my view, is definitely the way to go) of a distinct oracle account for each app - on the downside, that could produce many more total db sessions (& os processes) on the server as each new set of unique persistent pooled connections are created - but it benefits you in terms of security - which has a lot of weight - since each app account only has access to what it needs & nothing beyond that (the "least privilege" concept).
We're not an "amazon.com" so we haven't had to deal with thousands of sessions within an instance so there's an element of the unknown here for us - some questions I have are: How can I accurately predict how many db sessions (& os processes) this particular solaris server can support? I realize kernel parameters need to be set high enough for this sort of environment but simply setting the parameters cannot be a true indication of what the server can support. How much memory is required for thousands of sessions? I'm trying to gauge how many sessions & processes we can currently support - and at what point we'll need additional memory, or an updated server, or at what point we need to start thinking about an additional server environment for new apps.
I realize connection pooling is, by it nature, reducing the overall sessions required but as each unique db account is created, there will be set of persistent sessions out there and that will grow.
Also if you have any insight on other things to think about when heading into the direction of lots of sessions (beyond kernel settings, other OS or db parameters that need to be reviewed, or some features to enable).
I'm rambling so I'll stop right there; sorry about the length of the post. It's possible that the things to look at and consider are pretty straight-forward.
Thanks in advance for any feedback on any of the above.

You better check the documentation available on OTN
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25221_03/web.1013/b14432/threadpool.htm
There are several options you can setup with pooling.
    hope this helps.

  • Issue while accessing deployed web-app on Weblogic 10.3.5

We have deployed a web app on Weblogic server 10.3.5 as a WAR file. The deployment looks fine and application is in "Active" state. However when we try to access the application it fails to detect the Struts tags and gives following error -
weblogic.servlet.jsp.CompilationException: Failed to compile JSP /view/login/login.jsp
login.jsp:4:1: Type mismatch: cannot convert from Tag to JspTag

    *<title><s:property value="customerLoginContentVO.pageTitle" /> Dashboard</title>*
    ------^
I looks like it doesn't get the Struts libraries. We have included the Struts libraries in WEB-INF/lib of the web app and set prefer-web-inf-classes to true in weblogic.xml. Why is it that it is able to find the jars to deploy but not to access the application.
One alternate method suggested is to have package the war into a  ear and provide the mapping for struts libraries as prefer-application-packages in weblogic-application.xml. But we think creating a ear just for library load in not a right approach & we are definitely missing something.
Any help on this issue will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

WLS 10.3.5 (and some versions before that too, one of the 10.3.x releases changed this) should also support prefer-application-packages. It doesn't appear as though the documentation has been updated to reflect that.

for syncing to the iphone...how can I check more than one app at a time...but not all of them.
I can highlight them, but it doesn't check them.

You have to go to each app that you want to select and select the app. There is no option to highlight/select multiple apps at once to check the highlighted/selected apps to be checked for transfer to your iPhone. By the time you go though and select each app followed by making another selection to check each app, you would already have each app checked.

I need to know this because the various members in the committees are  fed up of copying and pasting all the email addresses into their email messages.
