Multiple Levels of Approval Workflow in SPD

Hi-
I'm building a workflow that has multiple levels of approval behind it.  I know how to set up the multiple levels of approval, but sometimes this workflow needs to have 2 approvals and sometimes it needs to have 3 approvals.  I'm hoping to pull
the info in from a SP List, but am not sure to do with the different number of approvals needed.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks a lot!

Yes you can create a column in SP List containing the Approver names. This should be a People/Group field or Single line of text can also work.
In your SPD workflow you can track the status of the previous Approver and based on this you may allow the workflow to move to next or stop it. Assuming that you will create a Status column having two values - "Approve" and "Reject".
If Approver selects "Approve" then workflow proceeds for next approval or else the workflow stops or if Approver chooses "Reject" then you may create a new task for the previous Approver and send him an email - Just a suggestion if you
have back and forth approval system.
If it is a simple sequential approval then can go for out-of-the-box Approval Workflow available. If there is some level of conditions then SPD workflow is an option.

  • 2 level approval workflow using spd 2010

    Hi,
    I have to create 3 level approval workflow using sPD 2010,
    1) User raises request --> Email goes to approver1 & Task assigned to approver1 --> If approver1 approves Task should be assigned to approver 2--> If  approver2 approves--> Task should be assigned to approver3 & Email Notification-->
    If approver3 approves workflow should complete & email goes to request initiator.
    Could you please let me know the exact steps

    Hi ppatil,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a workflow to assign tasks to different levels people in SharePoint 2010 Designer.
    To achieve it, I suggest you use the built-in approval workflow 2010 template.
    You can do as the followings:
    Open the library
    Click Library-> Settings->Workflow Settings->Add a workflow
    Select the ‘Approval-SharePoint 2010’ template, and type a name for this workflow
    Select the start options, and click Next
    For the Approvers, type your approvers as the order approver1, approvaer2, approver3, and the Order is ‘One at a time(serial)’
    Select ‘End on First Rejection’
    Click Save
    Then if you start the workflow, it can be workflow as your description.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    It looks workflow template is missing.
    Please check the note 962488 "Workflow definition '&' not in version '&'".
    1. Run the function module SWD_WFD_REPLICATE_FROM_9999 and copy it.
    2. Re-activate the WF definitions in the transaction SWDD
    3. Check Consistency in the transaction SWUD
    Also check the sub workflow.

  • Multiple approvals for approval workflow in MOSS

    Hi All,
    I have to develop a workflow in MOSS.
    My requirement is as follows:-
    Site Owner uploads a word document in document library and triggers the approval workflow.
    It will send an email to say about 10 people asking them to edit and approve the document.
    Current status of document is "In Progress".
    Even if out of 10, 8 people edit and approve the document, status of document should be in "In Progress".
    Only after all 10 people edit and approve the document status of document should be "Complete" and send an email to site owner that the document is approved by all the people.
    Please let me know how to accomplish this task.

  • Developping multiple level SOA approval in OIM11g

    Hi Team,
    How to achive the below functionality in SOA work flow:
    1. Once Request raised , it will to 2 managers & 1 Super Manager(approvers) queue. for Ex : M1,M2,SuperManager. ----------> 2 hours,2hours,5Hours
    2. A task should be created and ,It will sit in M1 Manager (approver) Queue waits for 2 hours, if he didnt act on the same (approve/reject) it should expired and should be cleared from the queue.
    3.After 2 hours It should go to M2 Manager(2nd approver) queue and wait for 2 hours if he didnt act on the same for 2 hours again is task should expire from his queue and should be cleared.
    4.Then it should go to 'Super Manager' Queue and wait for 5 hours, if he didnt act , then request should get expired.
    to achieve this I have used the below code snippet:
    <onAlarm for="bpws:getVariableData('managerapprovatime')">
    <assign name="setExpiredStatus">
    <copy>
    <from expression="'EXPIRED'"/>
    <to variable="ApprovalTask_Var1"
    part="payload"
    query="/task:task/task:systemAttributes/task:state"/>
    </copy>
    </assign>
    </onAlarm>
    from the em console I can see it is excuted the above code(SOA compsoite), but task are still in assign state and appearing the Approver queue even after 2 hours, 2 hours ,5 hoours
    Please let me know how I can acheive this.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Configuring multiple level approval workflows

    Hi,
    1. I would like to know how to configure multiple levels of approval in a workflow.
    For example, when a user self registers himself, the request must be sent to level1 manager and after his approval it must be sent to level2 manager for final approval.
    2. I would like to know the difference between "provisioning" and "provisioned".
    Path : Process definition->task->TasktoObjectStatusMapping
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    For question no 1.
    1.You need to create a approval process.
    2.Create a approval task for example "Approve by Manger1". assign this to Manager level 1.If its not static assignment then you need to create task assignment adapter.
    3.Create another approval task for exmaple "Approve by Manger 2" assign this to manager level2.
    4.Have the 2nd task depends one first one so that until one is completed 2nd one will not start.
    For question 2.
    Provisioning status refer to when provisioning process is not complete.
    Provisioned status refer to when provisioning process is complete.
    You can map this status on the completion or rejection of any task.Usually provisioned status is mapped with success of create identity task.
    Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Regards
    Nitesh

  • AD-hoc approver n step item level shopping cart workflow

    Hi
    We are on latest version of SRM and using n step item level SC approval workflow.
    The scenario goes like this:
    -     Requester creates shopping cart and workflow goes for two step approval.
    -     In the approval preview the requester is able to see both levels of approvers, which is correct.
    -     Requester now selects second level approver and replaces him with a ad-hoc approver. WE DO NOT WANT THIS.  Requester should NOT be able to replace an approver determined by approval badi. However should be able to extend approval step with ad-hoc approver say third level approver a ad-hoc approver. Also he should be able to change AD-HOC approvers ONLY.
    Thanks
    Joe

    Jo,
      You may be able to achieve it in the BADI BBP_WFL_SECUR_BADI .
    You can use the Business Add-In (BAdI) BBP_WFL_SECUR_BADI to determine whether
    A shopping cart can be changed during the approval process
    The approval workflow restarts when changes are made to the document
    A reviewer/approver can be added or changedThese are the call scenarios (see import parameter SCENARIO).
    Regards,
    Suren

  • In approval workflow, can we have one action in which item can be review and approve/reject

    Hello,
    I have created approval workflow using SPD.
    While sending notification to approver, we need to mention link for viewing : [%TaskProcess:Item Title%][%Variable:InternetLink%] and for approve/reject : [%current task: form_URN%]
    So is it possible to have one link, where reviewer can review document and approve or reject it. he/she should not have to go again to mail and click on another link.
    Thanking you in advance.

  • Approval workflow timelines ..

    Folks ,
    I am new to OIM 11g and SOA workflow .
    Can anyone help me estimate the time required to develop a simple 2 level request approval workflow for a RO.
    Thanks

    if you ask me for static two level approval .. the dev time for me would be 1 day I will say! :-) but this depends upon who is doing it ... but simple static 2 level approval is quite simple in soa.

  • Customize SP2010 OOTB approval workflow using SP designer

    Hi,
    Even though it has been long time i raised the following question:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/1efa6726-5790-4930-9520-4ef6398c503c/customize-ootb-approval-workflow-using-spd-2010?forum=sharepointcustomizationprevious
    but i never created the workflow using the proposed solution until now. After doing some testing i can verify the proposed solution doesn't work for the following reason:
    1.If i use 'user who created current item' and at the time of submitting the workflow add a different user email address in the 'Approver' field. It doesn't assign task to the user who has been manually added into approver field. It would still assign the
    task to the user who created the current item which is incorrect.
    2.If i use 'user who created current item' and a user who created the page has moved from his/her role, when submitting the workflow manually, the system will assign the task to the user who created the original item not the one who has just modified the
    item
    Ideally we would like to add the 'Approver' when submitting the workflow manually. Is there any other way of doing this? or i have tried the following:
    Copy default approval workflow -> Edit Workflow -> Initiation Form Parameters -> Modify Approvers -> Change 'Collect from parameter during:' to Initiation (starting the workflow) -> Next -> Finish -> OK -> Save -> Publish
    This lets you add the approver and would assign the task to the correct user. Is this a correct approach?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Kash

    By collecting the values during initiation, you would be able to make it work correctly.  The only down side to this approach is that there are no default values, but that's a small price to pay for a working process.
    If you tested this and it works correctly, I would say that you have a good solution without having to dive too deep into custom code.
    I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks

  • Three level sc approval wf

    Hi all,
    I am currently working on three level sc approval workflow...
    the 1st level approval is based on product category,2nd level is based on costcentre and the 3rd level is based on the shopping cart value...i am currently working on the BADI...what value should i give for the approval index for each level..i am not clear abt the actual approval index..can anyone help me..
    Thanks&Regards,
    Hari.

    hi ,
    there is default implementation already provided by SAP along with the system --> please have a look.
    if you have three approvers
    1) first approver will have index 1 , second will have 2 , third will have 3.
    you have to code your BADI in such a way ---> that approval table will have correct number of approvers depending on the input of the shopping cart.
    approval_table is very critical in badi ---> this defines the approvers involved in approval chain
