Multiple Physical Joins

Hi,
I have a situation where I need to join 2 separate columns from one table to another table.
Here are the details:
Table A.CompId(1) Left Outer join Table B.CompId(N)
Table A.ContactId(1) Inner Join Table B.ContactId(N)
When I try to create two joins, I am getting the error "Table A and Table B have multiple joins".
Any idea how I can accomplish this?
Thanks
rkingmdu

Make a complex like:
(Table A.CompId = Table B.CompId or Table B.CompId is null)
and
(Table A.ContactId = Table B.ContactId)

  • Multiple 'logical joins' between a fact table and one dimension table

It appears that one cannot create multiple ‘logical joins’ between a fact table and one dimension table in OBIEE using the Oracle BI Administration Tool. For example, considering a Business Model with a dimension table TIMES and a fact table FACT containing START_TIME and END_TIME, we would like to create separate logical joins from FACT to TIMES for the START_TIMEs and END_TIMEs? Obviously, the underlying foreign keys can be created, but as far as I can tell the Oracle BI Administration Tool doesn’t support this. The workaround would be to replicate the TIMES table, but that’s ugly.
    I seek an alternative approach.

Try this. Create an two aliases for the TIMES dimension (Start & End) in the Physical Layer and then remove foreign key to the "Parent" Times dimension. Create the Foreign Key in the Physical Layer to the new aliases and then create the complex joins in the BMM Layer to the new aliases as well. This will allow you to present both dates within the same table in the Presentation Layer. Not the most elegant solution but it works.

  • Multiple physical connections on a single repository

    Hi,
I have customers who have multiple databases, one for every location. This Databases are identical. So I want to create a single repository and the users from location 1 to see only his data and the users from location 2 to see only his data. Can anybody give me some instructions or documentation how to create the "Business Model and maping"
    Thank you
    Best regards

    Hi,
You can try the below mentioned approach.
1> You can create diffrent connection pools for diffrent sites and import the data to the physical layer.
    2>DO the corresponding physical joins.
3>Drag and drop the diffrent subject areas formed in the physical layer to the BMM layer. This way you will have diffrent subject areas in the BMM layer as well.
4> You have to proceed the same way to create the complex joins in each of the subject areas.
5> Now you can create diffrent groups for the diffrent sites through
Manage---->Security------> Select Groups--------> Create new group
6> Now right click on the groups you have created and go to the properties.
7> In the General Tab select add and add the corresponding subject area which belong to the region.
8> Check the box next to the read permission.
9> This way you can add the subject areas to the corresponding groups.
This will help you setup your intended results.

  • Physical Joins in OBIEE 11G

    Hi All,
I just started 11g and am finding it very hard to understand why the physical join is created from Fact to Dimension and how does this qualify as 1:N.
Can anyone explain if I am missing something.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
A foreign key repository join is used only to define a Primary Key-Foreign Key Relationships in the Physical Layer.
It consist of a column or a set of columns and refers to the primary key column in another table.
When you create it in the physical diagram, you have to point first the dimension and then the fact table.
When you import keys in a physical schema, the primary key-foreign key joins are automatically defined.
If you want to define other relationship, you have to use a complex join.
    And,
In the business model, OBI recommends using complex logical joins instead of foreign key logical joins.
When Complex joins are used in the business layer then they are really acting as placeholders. They allow the OBI Server to decide on which are the best joins define in the Physical Layer to satisfy the request.
In a Dimension, you may have multiple Logical Table sources that all join to one fact table. The OBI Server will then decide the best joins to use to meet the requirements.

  • Loading multiple physical records into a logical record

    Hello,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this thread.
I have to import data from a fixed length positioned text file into a oracle table using sql loader.
My sample input file (which has 3 columns) looks like:
    Col1 Col2 Col3
    1 A abcdefgh
    1 A ijklmnop
    1 A pqrstuv
    1 B abcdefgh
    1 B ijklmn
    2 A abcdefgh
    3 C hello
    3 C world
The above text file should be loaded into the table as:
    Col1 Col2 Col3
    1 A abcdefghijklmnpqrstuv
    1 B abcdefghijklmn
    2 A abcdefgh
    3 C helloworld
My question: Is there a way tht i can use the logic of loading multiple physical records into a logical record in my oracle tables. Please suggest.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply.
The order of the concatenated strings is important as the whole text is split into several physical records in the flat file and has to be combined into 1 record in Oracle table.
My scenario is we get these fixed length input files from mainframes on a daily basis and this data needs to be loaded into a oracle table for reporting purpose. It needs to be automated.
Am still confused whether to use external table or a staging table using sql loader. Please advise with more clarity as am a beginner in sql loader. Thanks.I still think an external table would be better.
You can create the external table like this:
    CREATE TABLE     fubar_external
    (      col1     NUMBER (2)
    ,      col2     VARCHAR2 (2)
    ,      col3     VARCHAR2 (50)
    ORGANIZATION  EXTERNAL
    (       TYPE             ORACLE_LOADER
         DEFAULT DIRECTORY  XYZ_DIR
         ACCESS PARAMETERS  (
                                 RECORDS DELIMITED BY     NEWLINE
                          FIELDS  (   col1        POSITION (1:2)
                                      ,   col2        POSITION (3:4)
                               ,   col3        POSITION (5:54)
         LOCATION        ('fubar.txt')
);where XYZ_DIR is the Oracle Directory on the database server's file system, and fubar.txt is the name of the file on that directory. Every day, when you get new data, just overwrite fubar.txt. Whenever you query the table, Oracle will read the file that's currently on that directory. You don't have to drop and re-create the table every day.
Note that the way you specify the columns is similar to how you do it in SQL*Loader, but the SEQUENCE generator doesn't work in external files; use ROWNUM instead.
Do you need to populate a table with the concatenated col3's, or do you just need to display them in a query?
Either way, you can reference the external table the same way you would reference a regular, internal table.

  • Context index can't be used in complicated multiple tables join?

    hello
thank you for view this page.
    i have a comlicated sql :
    SELECT count(*)
    from
    ((app_AssetBasicInfo left join app_AssetBasicInfoExt on
    app_AssetBasicInfo.id=app_AssetBasicInfoExt.id) left join
    (app_AssetCustominfo1 left join app_AssetCustominfoExt1 on
    app_AssetCustominfo1.id=app_AssetCustominfoExt1.id) on
    app_AssetBasicInfo.id=app_AssetCustominfo1.id) WHERE
    app_AssetBasicInfo.CategoryID=1 AND Del_tag=0 and contains(description,'department')>0;
the table app_AssetBasicInfo and app_AssetBasicInfoExt have multiple columns and large recoord size. i create a context index on app_assetbasicinfoext(description) which description is 4000 varchar2.
but the sql doesn't use context index. i suspect that the complicated multiple table join can't use context index? does it correct?
    thanks very much!

Could you please post an explain plan? I'm not quite sure what is the issue.

  • What is the different between Logical complex join and Physical join?

    hi,
Do somebody know what is the function different between logical complex join in BMM layer and physical join in physical layer?
    Thanks.

    Thank you very much1
    I understand their differentiation:
In the BMM Complex join (intelligent), means OBI picks the best way from possibly many different ways to join using physical join. FK join forces the same join always, which limits flexibility.

  • How to create an explain plan with rowsource statistics for a complex query that include multiple table joins ?

    1. How to create an explain plan with rowsource statistics for a complex query that include multiple table joins ?
When multiple tables are involved , and the actual number of rows returned is more than what the explain plan tells. How can I find out what change is needed  in the stat plan  ?
    2. Does rowsource statistics gives some kind of  understanding of Extended stats ?

You can get Row Source Statistics only *after* the SQL has been executed.  An Explain Plan midway cannot give you row source statistics.
To get row source statistics either set STATISTICS_LEVEL='ALL'  in the session that executes theSQL OR use the Hint "gather_plan_statistics"  in the SQL being executed.
    Then use dbms_xplan.display_cursor

Tricky question - but I went through this about 3 months ago, and found a good thread on here that explains it pretty well.
check out Re: Outer join a table with two diff table
You basically will have to create an inline view with one outer join in there, and then a second outer join on the outside. Read through the posts in that thread and it should help!

  • Query with multiple outer joins

I had a doubt with whether the following kind of query is valid with multiple outer-joins. The format of the query is something like this:-
    select A.col1, B.col2
    from table1 A, table2 B, table3 C where
    A.col3=B.col4(+) and B.col5=C.col6(+)
This would mean the follwoing with regard to outer-joins in the query.
    1) fetch records with col3 in table A matching or not matching col4 in table B
    2) fetch records with col5 in table B matching or not matching col6 in table C
    So, this query is valid?
I hope, my question is clear.
Please, help in solving the doubt.
    regards

This is valid and it works fine

    group by T157680.NAME
please let me know the reason and how to control this kind off behavior

Combined request is like, within a report you can create multiple requests. You can either use it in case of combining different subject area or within the same subject area and in same report when different filters apply.
    For example
    Fire Marine Motor
State No. Amt. No. Amt. No. Amt.
    Andra Pradesh 10 |20000 11 |100000 20 |200000
    TamilNadu 11 |40000 10 |120000 20 |200000
The first request is for Andra, so we will apply the filter as 'state is equal to in 'andra pradesh''. We specify filter(No using Product_code in 'Fire') in the column formula. Then there is an option as 'combine' by which u create another request and now the filter is 'state is equal to in 'Tamil Nadu''. So when you execute the report, it will generate you two different queries.

So, got doubt, can we use between? When you checkout the rpd object in online mode it would display in red, this is not an error.
"No fact table exists at the requested level of detail"; what does this error meanThis error usually happens if you have not mapped the content level correctly in the logical table source.

  • Multiple physical inventory document active for same material-storage locat

    hi experts,
I am using transaction code MI31 for creating physical inventory document for all materials at a particular warehouse(storage location). User is selecting direct generation of of PI documents in the transaction. If by mistake he presses execute button more than once system is creating as many copies of physical inventory documents. As per ERP system logic it sound very wrong to have multiple physical inventory document active for same material-storage location ( no batches or special stocks exist ).
Is there a message number or some standard setting to prevent such occurrence.
    regards

    Hi,
Syetem won't create again physical inventory document, if allready PI is active for the same part number,  plant, storage location & batch/valuation type.
