Multiple RowSets in a Web Bean

Hello and thank you all for all the help earlier. :)
I have a question concerning Web Beans. Each web bean is initialized through a JSP page. So far I've only been able to use one view object for each web bean. My problem is that I have data that I've picked up from one view object that I wish to insert in another.
I can't figure out though how to do this. I made it one time using static variables which was a solution I disliked a lot. This problem is appearing over and over again. There must be a simple way to do this...
I was thinking in the lines of using multiple view objects for a web bean, but I'm not sure if that's even possible. With static variables I could first initialize the web bean with one view object, put my data in the static variables, exit to the JSP page and reentering with a new view object initialized.
There must be an easier and smarter way for this... ;)
Any ideas, anyone?

Yes, it's true that you can only use one view object for each web bean. You can have multiple web beans per JSP, but I'm not sure that solves your problem.
For example, I have a 'reporting' application with a JSP page that displays some dynamic LOVs and text fields for the user to enter their search criteria. When they submit that JSP form, another JSP is called.
This second 'processing' JSP includes several web beans. The first is a custom web bean to do some date calculations and set some session parameters, the next is a RowSetNavigator which takes the data from the form fields, does some analysis and builds up a where clause for the report query, the next are more custom beans that print out a dynamic title and some other information to the browser, the last prints the report results itself.
This allows me to do both data processing and report printing all in one JSP page. But again, I'm not sure this serves your needs.
Another approach is to create a custom web bean, and initialize the 'second' view object in that web bean. I've included a code sample below:
Here is the JSP usebean tag. I take a parameter from a form, and pass that to the render method of my custom web bean:
<jsp:useBean class="wt_bc.staticWalkthruBean" id="swb" scope="request" >
<%
// get presentation name parameter
String p = request.getParameter("p");
swb.initialize(application,session, request,response,out,"wt_bc_WT_bcModule.wtinfoView");
swb.render(p);
%>
</jsp:useBean>
Here is the content of the custom web bean, sorry the formatting doesn't work great in this forum. In this particular example, I am setting a where clause, executing a query and printing the online walkthrough to a static HTML file on the file system (I have a different bean for doing the printing). Obviously you'd have to modify your bean to do the inserts, etc.:
package wt_bc;
import java.io.*;
import oracle.jbo.*;
import oracle.jdeveloper.html.*;
public class staticWalkthruBean extends oracle.jdeveloper.html.DataWebBeanImpl {
public void render(String p) {
try
// set up the print bean
wt_bc.printStaticHTMLBean wtb;
wtb = new wt_bc.printStaticHTMLBean();
// print one or all walkthroughs ?
if (p.equals("all")) {
int i;
Row[] rows;
// use a RowSetNavigator to loop // through each presname in //wtinfoView
oracle.jbo.html.databeans.RowsetNavigator rsn;
rsn = (oracle.jbo.html.databeans.RowsetNavigator) new oracle.jbo.html.databeans.RowsetNavigator();
rsn.initialize(application,session, request,response,out,"wt_bc_WT_bcModule.wtinfoView");
rsn.getRowSet().getViewObject().executeQuery();
rsn.getRowSet().first();
rows = rsn.getRowSet().getViewObject().getAllRowsInRange();
//This loop iterates through each //presentation
for(i = 0 ; i < rows.length; i++)
// get variable values from the // session
String pn = rows.getAttribute( 0 ).toString();
String theclause = "presname = '" + pn + "'";
// initialize the view object we // will use to print, exeucte the // query and render the pages
wtb.initialize(application,session, request,response,out,"wt_bc_WT_bcModule.wtjoinView"); wtb.getRowSet().getViewObject().setWhereClause(theclause); wtb.getRowSet().getViewObject().executeQuery();
wtb.getRowSet().first(); wtb.render(pn);
}// end for loop
else {
// just printing one walkthrough
String theclause = "presname = '" + p + "'";
// initialize the view object
//exeucte the query and render the //pages
wtb.initialize(application,session, request,response,out,"wt_bc_WT_bcModule.wtjoinView"); wtb.getRowSet().getViewObject().setWhereClause(theclause); wtb.getRowSet().getViewObject().executeQuery();
wtb.getRowSet().first(); wtb.render(p);
}// end if p=all
} catch(Exception ex)
throw new RuntimeException(ex.getMessage());

  • Multiple instances of the same bean class in session?

    Im trying to think of a way to have multiple instances of the same bean class in session scope using JSF. For example, lets say that I have two <h:dataTable>s on the same page. They both use the backing bean called genericBean. Now, the content for genericBean will be different for each <h:dataTable>. In fact, the data source that backs genericBean is not known until runtime. It could be a database, web service, etc.
    What I would like is for when JSF needs access genericBean instead of looking for the value with key genericBean in the session map it looks for genericBean_[some runtime ID]. I could specify this id in EL on a custom component, as a request parameter or whatever.
    I think that I need the bean to be in session scope because the tables are complex and I want them to be editable.
    I have some ideas about how I can do this but I was wondering if someone has already solved this problem or if there is a standard way to do this using tools like Shale, etc.
    Thanks,
    Randy

    Well, I came up with an interesting solution to this so I thought that I would post it here.
    I have a page that looks like this.
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>My Page</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <f:view>
    <f:subview id="component1">
    <jsp:include page="component.jsp">
    <jsp:param name="id" value="a" />
    </jsp:include>
    </f:subview>
    <hr>
    <f:subview id="component2">
    <jsp:include page="component.jsp">
    <jsp:param name="id" value="b" />
    </jsp:include>
    </f:subview>
    </f:view>
    </body>
    </html>
    And component.jsp looke like this.
    <f:verbatim>
    <p>
    <h1>Component
    </f:verbatim>
    <h:outputText value=" #{param.id}" />
    <f:verbatim>
    </h1>
    </p>
    </f:verbatim>
    <h:form>
    <h:outputText value="#{component.id}" />
    <h:outputText value="#{component.value}" />
    <h:commandButton value="increment" action="#{component.increment}" />
    <h:commandButton value="decrement" action="#{component.decrement}" />
    <f:verbatim>
    <input type="hidden" name="id"
    value="</f:verbatim><h:outputText value="#{param.id}"/><f:verbatim>" />
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:form>
    The idea is that I want component.jsp to be initialized differently based on the id param. The component managed bean is configured to be in session scope but I want the component instance for id a and id b to be different instances in session scope. Therefore, I added a custom variable resolver to handle this.
    public Object resolveVariable(FacesContext context, String name) {
    // This id will be different for the different subviews.
    HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest) context.getExternalContext() .getRequest();
    String id = request.getParameter("id");
    // If there is an id in the request then check if this is a bean that can have multiple
    // instances in session scope.
    if ((id != null) && (id.length() > 0)) {
    ExternalContext ec = context.getExternalContext();
    // Build the new name for the key of this bean
    String newName = name + "_" + id;
    Object value = null;
    // See if the bean instance already esists.
    if ((null == (value = ec.getRequestMap().get(newName))) &&
    (null == (value = ec.getSessionMap().get(newName))) &&
    (null == (value = ec.getApplicationMap().get(newName)))) {
         // We could not find the bean instance in scope so create the bean
         // using the standard variable resolver.
    value = original.resolveVariable(context, name);
    // Now check if the bean implements that page component interface. If it is
    // a page component then we want to rename the key to access this bean so
    // that the instance is only used when the id is provided in the request.
    // For example, if there are two components (a and b) we will have in session scope
    // component_a and component_b. The will each point to a unique instance of the
    // Component bean class.
    if (value instanceof PageComponent) {
    // Try to get the value again
    if (null != (value = ec.getRequestMap().get(name))) {
         // Initialize the bean using the id
    ((PageComponent) value).initInstance(id);
    ec.getRequestMap().remove(name);
    ec.getRequestMap().put(newName, value);
    } else if (null != (value = ec.getSessionMap().get(name))) {
    ((PageComponent) value).initInstance(id);
    ec.getSessionMap().remove(name);
    ec.getSessionMap().put(newName, value);
    } else if (null != (value = ec.getApplicationMap().get(name))) {
    ((PageComponent) value).initInstance(id);
    ec.getApplicationMap().remove(name);
    ec.getApplicationMap().put(newName, value);
    return value;
    return original.resolveVariable(context, name);
    }

  • JSP, Data Web Bean, BC4J: Setting the where clause of a View Object at run time

    Hi,
    I am trying to develop a data web bean in which the where clause of a View Object will be set at run time and the results of the query then displayed.
    My BC4J components are located in one project while the coding for the data web bean is in another project. I used the following code bu t it does not work. Could you please let me know what I am doing wrong?
    public void populateOSTable(int P_EmpId)
    String m_whereString = "EmpView.EMP_ID = " + P_EmpId;
    String m_OrderBy = "EmpView.EMP_NAME";
    oracle.jbo.ApplicationModule appModule = null;
    ViewObject vo = appModule.findApplicationModule("EMPBC.EMPAppModule").findViewObject("EMPBC.EMPView");
    vo.setWhereClause(m_whereString);
    vo.setOrderByClause(m_OrderBy);
    vo.executeQuery();
    vo.next();
    String empName numAttrs = vo.getAttribute(EmpName);
    System.out.println(empName);
    Thanks.

    1. In the JSP, use a RowsetNavigator bean to set the where clause and execute the query.
    2. Use a custom web bean to process the results of the query (print to HTML).
    for example:
    <jsp:useBean class="oracle.jbo.html.databeans.RowsetNavigator" id="rsn" scope="request" >
    <%
    // get the parameter from the find form
    String p = request.getParameter("p");
    String s = request.getParameter("s");
    // store the information for reference later
    session.putValue("p", p);
    session.putValue("s", s);
    // initialize the app module and view object
    rsn.initialize(application,session, request,response,out,"wt_bc_WT_bcModule.wtjoinView");
    // set the where clause string
    String theclause = "presname = '" + p + "' AND slideno=" + s;
    // set the where clause for the VO
    rsn.getRowSet().getViewObject().setWhereClause(theclause);
    rsn.getRowSet().getViewObject().executeQuery();
    rsn.getRowSet().first();
    %>
    </jsp:useBean>
    <jsp:useBean class="wt_bc.walkthruBean" id="wtb" scope="request" >
    <%
    // initialize the app module and VO
    wtb.initialize(application,session, request,response,out,"wt_bc_WT_bcModule.wtjoinView");
    wtb.render();
    %>
    In this case, the render method of my custom web bean mostly gets some session variables, and prints various content depending on the session variable values.
    Hope this helps.

    Laura can you give the code of your walkthru bean? i wna't to initialize a viewobject, set the where clause and give that viewobject back to initialize my navigatorbar.

  • Data web bean (chart) using a dynamic view object

    Please I want a quick help. I read all forums concerning this subject but I still couldn't do it.
    - I create a view object which takes a proameter using the ? style parameter.
    - I passed the parameter from an html page and execute the query
    of the view as follows:
    <%
    String deptno = request.getParameter("deptno");
    if(deptno != null) {
    oracle.jbo.html.jsp.JSPApplicationRegistry.registerApplicationFromPropertyFile(session , "MyProject21_package3_Package3Module");
    oracle.jbo.ViewObject v = oracle.jbo.html.jsp.JSPApplicationRegistry.getInstance()
    .getAppModuleInstance("MyProject21_package3_Package3Module",request,session)
    .findViewObject("View1");
    v.setWhereClauseParam(0,deptno);
    v.executeQuery();
    %>
    - And then I used the data web bean chart as follows:
    <jsp:useBean class="oracle.jbo.html.databeans.ChartRenderer" id="ch" scope="request" >
    <%
    ch.setReleaseApplicationResources(false);
    ch.initialize(application,session, request,response,out,"MyProject21_package3_Package3Module.View1");
    ch.setCommonScriptName("/webapp/jsp/chart_common.jsp");

  • Using a view-object as a data web bean?

    Hi,
    When writing JSP pages, I'd like to have a web bean that allows basic data manipulation such as:
    - set up a row set - e.g. by specifying a view object and an (optional) where clause;
    - navigate this row set (first, next, etc.);
    - get or set the values of the attributes of the current row;
    - insert, update or delete a row;
    - commit or rollback the modifications;
    - etc.
    This bean should be "silent" - i.e. it would not have to be able to "render" anything - instead, I would use it in <%= bean.method() %> tags, or in <% ...java code... %> sections, in conjunction with other (custom) beans.
    I guess I could use a view object - but:
    1) How would I have to use it in a JSP context?
    2) Or, are there more appropriate objects to do this job?
    3) What methods could I use (i.e. where are they documented)?
    4) What pitfalls should I be aware of (most notably related to housekeeping after bean use)?
    Any information greatly appreciated!

    Hi ,
    We have enabled context sensitive DFF in Bank Branch Page for HZ_PARTIES DFF , We have created Flex Map so that only bank branch context fields are only displayed in the bank branch page and  as we know party information DFF is shared by supplier and Customer Page so we dint want to see any Bank Branch fields or context information in those pages.

    this error is thrown only when we open existing branches, if we save existing branch and open then it is not throwing any error message.
    Please let us know reason behind this error message.

  • How to handle multiple tables data in Entity Beans?

    How to handle multiple tables data in Entity Beans?
    i mean, my bean (non trivial) is responsible for frequent
    insertion in one table and some deletion on another table.
    Can anyone of you...please..?

    Is your data model right? If you are adding in one and deleting in another it sounds to me more like a process that an entity, in which case you may revisit your data model and simplify it, add in a session bean with the process method to co-ordinate between the two.
    However, if you want to map multiple different tables within a single entity bean it is possible and just part of the mapping. How you actualyl specify it depends on which implementation you are working with.

    Peter.

  • Crosstab with multiple rowset xml content

    I have multiple rowsets (xml files) which I want to calculate subtotals from.  Each xml data set has identical columns.  If I union all the files together, the xml content contains multiple rowsets and the Crosstab function does not give me a summed value of each column, but instead it creates a column for each column in each rowset.
    The Normalize and the rowset combiner transform both combine rowsets by appending the second dataset into new columns, is there any way to append the data into new rows instead?
    Because my final file is going to have something over 30,000 rows (14Mb), I am reluctant to use a repeater on each row of each file to combine it into a new rowset.  Is there an efficient way to handle this calculation?

    Sue,
    I believe that we are off on the wrong foot here...all things aside...
    Join will work for your scenario when combined with other actions for your calculation and it will be easier to maintain than a stylesheet which will be beneficial to you in the end.  Please do not be too quick to judge the solution
    As for the error message that's one for support, what was the error in the logs?

  • Multiple Pages in a Web Gallery?

    Is it possible to have multiple pages in one web gallery?
    I have a batch of photos that I need a client to proof, but I want to separate them into different categories because there's a lot of them to go through and I want it to be as organized as possible.
    So is it possible to have tabs linking to different pages in a gallery, so I could have something like, 'Interiors,' 'Exteriors,' 'Portraits,' etc.?

    You might want to look at the third party TTG Highslide Galley and TTG Pages. The gallery is just that, a web engine for creating galleries but with more options than the LR galleries, and TTG pages will index multiple galleries and generate a home page. That way you could have separate galleries for interir, exterior, etc. It also has client review functionality.

  • Multiple servlets in one web app?

    Is this possible?
    what I want is to have different servlets handling different parts of the app and control to be passed via <form> tag in embeded html.
    If this is possible do I need to deploy each of them on their own or can I have multiple entries in the web.xml file.
    Alternatively am I going about this the wrong way?
    Thanks

    You should have a look at web.xml documentation. You would find out a lot more features you could use and get a better understanding how this all works and what all could be done. If you have tomcat, have a look at it's documentation or even better get the free pdf at pdf.coreservlets.com!

    paramOAPageContext.writeDiagnostics(this, "HZPUI: " + getClass().getName() + ".setAttributes(OAPageContext) done.", 2);
    Getting exception even commented out processRequest process at the same time formsRequest works fine (when clicks button).
    I tried by adding OAWebBeanConstants class and parent parent class HzPuiPartySearchBaseCO in import stmts. but getting the same error.
    Kindly suggest what could be the issue.
    Thank you.

  • Question on PG design-time web bean: rendered false

    Is there a rule or documentation on the behavior of web beans in PG when design-time property rendered is set to False?
    Bean instance is unpredictable when using findChildRecursive method of OAWebBean.
    Use Case:
    Update is needed on an existing page. We want this new item to display only on specific scenario.
    public void processRequest(final OAPageContext pageContext, final OAWebBean webBean) {
        final boolean metCriteria = true;
        if (metCriteria) {
            final OAWebBean bean = (OAWebBean)webBean.findChildRecursive("BeanId"); //alas! bean can be null!
            bean.setRendered(true);
    }Workaround is do it negatively w/c is a little inconvenient. Set design-time render to true, and do setRendered(false) in PR when new scenario criteria is not met. You want rendered property to be false by default so you are a little sure that original behavior is not affected.
    public void processRequest(final OAPageContext pageContext, final OAWebBean webBean) {
        final boolean metCriteria = false;
        if (!metCriteria) {
            final OAWebBean bean = (OAWebBean)webBean.findChildRecursive("BeanId");//Bean is never null.
            bean.setRendered(false);
    }Any ideas?

    Hi
    Better to segregate the EJB's and put it in seperate controller keep atmost 30 in one controller (you have around 3-4 component ). Any component which is going to use in other component is basically based on create on demand priniciple automatically by framework.
    or
    as given in point third create a component , with say 8-10 Custom Controller  implement the all the methods and put a same method signature in Component Controller, call the same through interface thats it.

  • How to clear/delete previously instantiated web beans?

    Is there a way to flush out all the previously used web beans that were created programmatically in the CO?
    In my earlier version of the CO, I had used a webBean.addIndexedChild(MessageTextInputBean), to add create a text input field on the fly at the Page Level.
    I have since then, revised my CO code to create a table bean and then create the MessageTextInputBean within the table bean. However, for some reason, I am now seeing duplicate tables (i.e. two instances) of the table on my page.
    I have tried all the following but none of these attempts have been successful in removing the older web bean that still seems to be lurking around:
    1) vo.clearCache()
    2) vo.reset()
    3) am.clearVOCaches
    4) am.resetState(true)
    5) bounced apache (even though I'm running the page locally)
    6) even cloned the current VO and the PG to new names, and ran the new page.
    7) cleared IE cache/cookies
    8) used webBean.clearIndexedChildren() - This one removes everything (all declaratively defined items) but keeps the original Web bean. Opposite of what I'm trying to achieve.
    Any idea on what could be going on?
