Multiple substitution Variable in Data Forms

Hi,
i have a problem with the creation of a hyperion Planning Data Form.
I have created a Substituion Variable with "three" values delimited with a comma.
I note that it works fine in the calculation script but i've a problem during the creation of a data form when I select the members by this substitution variable and it works fine if i set the Sub Var with only element.
It's not possible to open the Data Form and The error is:
"A substitution variable required for this calculation is undefined."
Can someone help me for this error?

Hi,
I don't think it is possible to put multiple members into a sub var for planning. It will treat it as a member e.g. if you had a subvar &years=FY08,FY09 it will be looking for a member named FY08,FY09.
In your case you have to split into seperate subvars.

Referencing a substitution variable in data load rule header definition

Hi All,
Im trying to add a substitution variable to the header definition of a DLR.
the sub var is &CurrMonth.
When I execute the data load I get an "unknown member error" with a list of all members in the header definition, including Oct which is my current month.
It looks like the DLR is resolving the sub var but for some reason it is refusing to load data.
We are on 9.2.0.1.
Are sub vars referenced differently for DLR?

A quich test on sample basic says no. I exported the data in column format and cleared the data. Then I created a load rule with selection criteria of a substitution variable and itdid not load any rows. I then changed the sub variable to an actual month and it loaded fine

I'm trying to use substitution variable in a planning web form &CurYr in the Column, after creating the form when I save it and try to open the form it says the substitution variable required for this calculation is undefined .Variable : &CurYr.It should be defined as I'm able to see it and select it for the column/row. Any kind of help is appreciated.

You usually get this error message if you are trying to assign a value from a sub var to a member that does not exist.
e.g. trying to put FY08 which is a year member against a period dimension
or trying to use a sub var of FY09 which does not yet exist in the essbase, so say you added a new year in planning FY09 and used the sub var in the form but have not refreshed the database then it would fail because the year would not have been pushed down to essbase yet.
or the value of the subvar does not match a member name exactly
or using a sub var name that does not exist in essbase, e.g. using &nextYear but the sub var has not been created in essbase.
You can definitely use subsitution variables in columns in the version you are using and prior version.

Replacement string variable in data form

Hi everybody,
in Planning 11.1.2, is it possible to set a replacement variable, with type String, and then use it in a data form to let the user inserting a string value (i.e "actual")?
I need to reuse the value inserted in a business rule. I think to use the @MEMBER to refrence it to the corresponding dimension member.
For example:
If I define a string variable named SCENARIO and the user insert in the data form "actual", can i reference it in a cross-dimension:
Account1->Peiod1->Fy12 -> @MEMBER(SCENARIO)
does this cross-dimension return the value corresponding to Account1->Period1->FY12->Actual?

Users chose member name from the LOV (no chance for mistake) and run your rule

Local variable in Data Form

Hi All,
I have a dataform in which Entity Dim is in Page. In a Business Rule attached to it there is a variable which should contain the value what ever selected in Entity in Page. Now my issue is what settings i should give while making Entity as local variable in BR in EAS.
What should i give in
Type: It has Members, Dimension, String, Integer, Real etc (I tried with Members & Dimension)
Usage Type : It has Saved Selection, Use by Value, Run-time prompt (I tried with all options)
Please give your inputs.

Yes i am on version 11.1.2
I am running BR on save of data in Dataform.
I have not set any limits
I have declared a global variable with Member as type and Usage Type as "RTP"
Please let me know if i need to give any default value. My understanding should be no.<
Let me know if i need to click on check box saying "Do not save value entered during validation and launch as default value". My understanding - doesnot matter.<After that the global variable is appearing in BR

Multiple members in a substitution variable

Hi, I use substitution variables in Planning forms to choose wichyear to display. I would like to have FY06, FY07 andFY08 in the same variable. You cannot provide multiple values to single substitution variable. If you want that a variable can contain multiple values then you can use User Variable.

Substitution variable is not visible at Data Prep editor-creating rule file

Hi,
We are working on Essbase 9.3.1, Oracle as a database source for loading the data into Essbase.
We have create a substitution variable at "server level" to use it in rule file as a DSN for data source. But this substitution variable is not visible in the drop down of substitution variable in 'Data prep editor' while creating the rule file.
We restarted the Essbase server also but still it is not visible in 'data prep editor'.
Any help will appreciated on this issue.

1) yes I've tried it on 2 different clients
2) yes I've tried it on the server
3) I haven't tried that, but don't normally use MaxL for anything
4) I took a 'broken' rule, saved it locally, closed and reopened and it still didn't work
5) I normally do files on the server, but I can't even get to that point because when I get the 'Open Data File' nothing happens, no dialog box pops up, so I don't get the chance to select the location
6) This is a production server and EAS is running as a service, so I'd have to test this one afterhours.
Because it happens on 3 separate PC's I'd eliminate bad EAS, since only some rules do it and others don't I'd think it could be corrupt rules, but it'll happen to new rules just as fast, and they still work just fine, so if that's the case I need to figure out what is corrupting them...
Network issues wouldn't surprise me, I get TCP/IP errors regularly saying I have to increase my net retry count, but I've tweaked with those settings tons... looks like those are really the database server is running out of memory even though I have 4GB physical 16MB Virtual memory (32 bit environment though... I do have the /3GB switch turned on)... I've had to scale my caches way back to allow certain databases to even function.

Changing values of substitution variables on the basis of selection in Page

I am developing a classic planning application using hyperion 11.1.2.1. All of my data forms are based on substitution variables i.e. I define three variables:
sv_CurrYear = FY12
sv_CurrYearMinus1 = FY11
sv_CurrYearMinus2 = FY10
and i am using these 3 variables in columns section of my data form i.e First Column contains sv_CurrYearMinus2, second column contains sv_CurrYearMinus1 and third column contains sv_CurrYearMinus2.
Now my understanding is that every year system admin will update the values of these variable and data form updated automatically.
But my client want to have such a mechanism through which he would be able to see the data of previous years. i.e He want to have Year dimension in Page section, so that he will select his desired year from drop down and as a result form will display the desired year's data. Now if i have only one column(i.e curr year) in my data form then i could easily do that but since i have three different year's so it didn't seems easy to me.
One idea that originate in my mind is that i add a custom dim by the name of Custom year and its member would be like this CY10, CY11, CY12 ... and so on, then i will place this dimension in Page so that user will select his desired year and when he presses the "Go" button then some sort of script executed which change the values of my Substitution Variables. But i don't know whether its possible or not? if yes, then how or any other alternate idea?

I dont know if it is possible and make sense in your application, but you could create a new Custom Dimension with the members "Current Year" "Previous Year" etc. All values of the current plan period would be saved to "Current Year" and if you change to next plan period (FY+1) you need to copy the data from FY->"Current Year" to FY+1->"Previous Year" and so on.
Then you would be able to put the Financial Year Dimension in Page and the Custom Dimension in Columns.
Disadvantage: your cube data would grow faster.

Hi friends can i use substitution variables in data loading ie in time dimension i fixed time every month first day of the week. i need automatic work? can i assign system date to substitution variable? How can i change the substitution variable automatically?

Web Forms using substitution variables with multiple values

Hi,
I am trying to select a substitution variable in a webform (Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3) with multiple values in EAS, but is not working does somebody knows if this an expected behaviour.
I allready try ex.
&Months = "Jan","Feb", "Mar"
&Months = Jan, Feb, Mar
&Months = Jan:Mar
Please let me know something, since as far as I recall in previous versions of Hyperion Planning this was possible.

We experienced the same issue, our requirement was that for the first half of the year the substitution variable was = Oct and for the second part of the year Jan:Dec. We were lucky that for the second scenario we had a Total Year member as well (that at the bottom level is Jan:Dec). So on web form we picked Level0 descendants of the substitution variable. That worked fine but not the range.

Report script - using substitution variable with multiple values

Substitution variable with multiple values is not working correctly with Report scripts. Can you please let me know what is the syntax to assign multiple values to a sub variable using maxl:
alter database samp.samp set variable 'ExtractQuarter' 'Q1,Q2,Q3,Q4';
alter database Samp.Samp set variable 'ExtractQuarter' 'Q1:Q4';
I tried both of the above but they are errored out with the below error:
Error: 1001005 - Unknown Member [Q1:Q4] in Report.
my requirement is different for both Actual and forecast data extract so i would like to make use of this variable to extract whole year data for Forecast and current quarter data for Actual with out duplicating the report scripts for both processes.

Is there any option to use multiple values in 1 substitution variable and use them in a Maxl command.
alter database $app_name.$db_name clear data in region '{CrossJoin(CrossJoin(CrossJoin({StrTOMbr(&Months)},{XXX, YYY}),{StrTOMbr(&CURYR)}), {ZZZ})}'physical;
In the above case
Maxl is not working if I have multiple months in &Months Substitution variable.
Let me know if there is an alternate option to implement this.

Substitution Variable on Forms

Hi All,
I can not use Substitution Variable which is set to range,for example &FcstPeriods (Apr:Dec) on the form.
In a form I need member1's data for Historical months (jan to Mar) and member2's data for FutureMonth's (apr to Dec).
Instead of updating form every month, I am intrested to know if there are any other options.
