Multiple Users Sharing WinCE Device

Is it possible for multiple users to share the same WinCE device?
One of our business requirements is to allow users to share the same WinCE device, example, one device shared for an entire branch office.
Common scenario, UserA syncs and modifies data on local on device, then UserB syncs devices obtaining their own data partition/snapshot, and modifies data without effecting UserA data.
In my testing, my initial sync of UserA works fine, but when I can try to sync UserB, I get the error 'connection does not exist'. However, if I delete the database created by UserA, I can successfully sync UserB.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guessed that you were using subsetting. This however does mean that lite will detect that there is a new user for the device, and send a complete rebuild of all of the data. This actually links up with the next issue
If you have 5 (or 10) users in a department, then if the snapshots are defined for each user, then each time the user changes, your initial sync to get thier data will do a complete refresh. this can mean a lot of data, not normally too bad in the comms time, but can take a long time in the processing phase. If you have the snapshot at department level, then the first sync to create the database would indeed be 5/10 times longer (this would be a one off hit), but you could then have all snapshots set to fast refresh, and only smaller updates would come through each time, for everyone, rather than complete refreshed all of the time.
you will see that when you sync a new user a directory with that user name get created under the orace directory, but i have never seen anything in these. for our PDA's the database gets created in (by priority order) 1 - SD card, 2 - built in storage, 3 - Orace directory. Removable card is a little slower, but have the advantage of being able to up the storage capacity if needed. The application we are just finishing off has 83 objects, with around 60,000 records in total and a database size around 15 Mb
concli has a table system.c$client_preferences, with (normally) two records in it. (column dev_owner values 0 and 1). 0 will have the user used when the database were created, and is the default for device manager and msync. 1 will normally be the same, but could be different if you have subsequently synced as a different user. NOTE you can override the user in msync, but NOT in device manager. This may be your problem.
Try (after making sure that device manager is not running) removing these records (at least the type 0), and syncing. This could save removing the databases

  • HT4847 Can I have multiple users's family devices backed up to the cloud e.g. 2 iPhones and 2 iPads under the same iTunes account

Just got a second iPad for the home.
Can I have multiple users's family devices backed up to the cloud e.g. 2 iPhones and 2 iPads under the same iTunes account?

Yes, but it's not usually recommended to share an iCloud account within a family.  If you do, any data you sync with iCloud will be merged and you, for example, will end up with each other's contacts and calendars on your devices.  Also, any action taken on one device (such as adding or deleting a contact) will be replicated on the other devices.  You will also all be sharing the same 5GB of free storage for all your data and device backups.
Normally it's best to use separate iCloud accounts for each person's devices.  This will keep your data separated, and allow each person to have their own free 5GB of storage.  You can continue to share the same iTunes ID within the family; the ID you use for iCloud does not need to be the same as the one your use for iTunes purchasing.  (Each person should also use a separate ID on their devices for iMessage and FaceTime to avoid getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.)

  • Multiple users sharing one itunes library

i have multiple users on my mac, but i'd like us all to be able to access the same itunes library. when i go to itunes prefs on one of the other users accounts and redirect their music library to my folder, it says it is doing it, but itunes still goes to their own music folder instead of mine. i can share my library with the sharing pref, but while they can now listen to my music, they still can't use it in imovie. is there any easy way around this problem??
    thanks for your help.

I wrote a simple shell script that executes each time a user logs in (well, actually, each time I log in, coz' it's not really applicable to other users). It syncs my work and home addressbooks and iCal calendars to one another.
I named it "sync". Then I read somewhere that if you wanted to make it double-clickable (to launch it from the Finder), I appended a ".command" filename extension (so it's now named "sync.command"). I also did a chmod 755 to that file so that it had execute privileges. Depending on whether you give each user their own copy of this thing, or keep a single copy in, say, the /Users/Shared directory, you may have to play around with chmod. Whatever, just so long as the user that has just logged in has execute permissions to the file, and to the entire path to the file, you should be good.
Then, in SysPrefs > Accounts > Login Items, I added that "sync.command" file to the list. So, really the only difference is I'm not wrapping mine inside an Automator script like you are.
I had tried adding it to ~/Library/LaunchAgents and make a launchd plist for it, that would kick it off at login. But I didn't get that to work. Don't know why. But just adding the double-clickable executable unix script to the Login Items list did the trick. Whether the plist has to hang out there with it, I don't know. I still have it there, though, in case I ever get motivated to figure out what's wrong with my launchd plist file. So, if just adding it to the Login Items list doesn't do it for you, you could try making a (functional?) launchd plist for it and plopping them both in ~/Library/LaunchAgents, too. That's how I am now, and, like I said, it launches at user login as that user's process (not as a root process like the above referenced article said how login hooks worked -- although, you may want it to run as root since you want this to work with multiple users...in which case, you might want to listen to Cole and not me...).

  • Multiple users sharing address book (intranet)

Can one machine with multiple users share the address book? Basically I am setting up 3 users (parent control) so they can't stuff up the settings (desktop etc.) Two of them will share the address book,iPhoto,iTunes etc. of the administrator. The other will be independant.
Can it be done simply. Yes I know about Prefs/User Groups and Users/Shared Folder. I have an existing setup (Address Book etc.) in the admin user, as the system has only had 1 user for a few years.
    Cheers

You would think Apple, the forefront of Home computing, would have a built in preference selection allowing multiple users on the SAME computer to share simple things like address book and calendar data.
    Seems like a no-brainer.
Its ridiculous that I have to buy a subscription to an online account, send all my personal stuff to some server in California or wherever in the world it is just so that I can share the info with my wife on the computer we share here at home
    Money Grab or what?

"if anything" apple needs to provide an update that streamlines this sharing business, or at least provides a work around that is understandable for the average user. We spent good money on this machine to make some things in life easier, not to become programmers or system managers

    Thanks again in advance
Mungo :-)Its important to remember that Apex is nothing other than a framework for creating HTML and running web pages. So what used to be triggers are now standard javascript events. Although you will find help on the forum for javascript and maybe some in the documentation, javascript events are standard and not proprietary like Forms triggers were. Its frustrating, but there are a TON of resources (google) on the basics of javascript. For instance instead of when-validate-trigger, you'll probably look at the onblur event to trigger a piece of javascript code to run your validation. You can use onfocus which would be sort of like when-new-item-instance in Forms-speak.

  • Multiple users - shared folders - file permissions

I want to be able to copy and move files between two user accounts so that each user will have read-write permsssions for those files. I have the standard Shared User folder (HD:Users:Shared), and the standard Users' Shared folders.
More specifically, I want to copy or move files to either of these shared folders and have those files take on the permissions of the shared folder into which they are copied or moved. As of now they do not do that; whether copied or moved, they retain the permissions they were created with.
"Apply to enclosed items" only works to change permissions for items already in a folder, not for new items. I haven't found a Folder Action for the purpose, nor anything in Automator that would appear to help.

Easiest sweetest way is to create a read/write sparse disk image and place it in your /Users/Shared
    directory.
The default method for mounting disk images will result in the user having full ownership privileges
of all the files & folders contained therein. Thus when scanning a mounted disk image, and copying
data to/from it, there will be no permission related errors. The implications of this become huge
when you realize that anyone who mounts a DMG will have full access. This allows you to share your
data with other users without having to worry about access restrictions. This can be invaluable when
synchronizing with a "central repository" that you need several users to have access to.
Creating a blank disk image for storage
You can use Disk Utility to create a blank disk image to store files. Normally, you need to gather all
the files you want to be included into a single location before you create a disk image. However,
with a blank disk image, you can add files to the image at any time.
To create a blank disk image, Open Disk Utility:
Choose File > New > Blank Disk Image.
Type a name for the disk image, and choose where you want to save it from the pop-up menu.
In Volume name, enter the name for the volume that appears on your desktop when you double
    -click the disk image.
Choose the size of the disk image from the Volume Size pop-up menu.
To require a password to open the disk image, choose an encryption scheme from Encryption.
Choose “Single partition - Apple Partition Map” from the Partitions pop-up menu.
Choose “sparse bundle disk image” from the Image Format pop-up menu.
    Click Create.
    Resizing a disk image
If you can read from and write to a disk image, you can make it larger or smaller when you either
need to save disk space or store more in it.
    To resize a disk image:
Open Disk Utility. Select the disk image if it appears in the list of disks and volumes, and then click
    Resize in the toolbar.
Otherwise, click Resize in the toolbar, and then select a disk image from the dialog that appears.
    Select a new size.
You can even get fancier by creating a small app with automator that will mount the image, then
place it (the app) in each user's login startup item list. Then the image will mount on the desktop
when the user logs in and will be easily accessible like any other mounted disk.

  • Multiple users sharing itunes songs?

    hi,
my family shares our imac (me, wife, 2 daughters) and we all have our own identity/logon. we also all have our own devices such as ipods that we use to synch our own itunes libraries. we also all listen to some of the same music. i'm the admin on the imac and have moved my itunes library to the itunes music folder for the shared user so i can add the songs we all want to each itunes library. when i go to add these songs to someones itunes library, some songs purchased from itunes don't show up when logged on as another user other than me. logged in as me, i see everything.
have i done something wrong? any suggestions on how to do this?
    thanks!
    tony

what you can try is to authorize iTunes on each account (login, identity) to play/use content purchased with the other iTMS accounts.
for example, authorize daughter #1's iTunes to play music purchased with your, the wife's, and her sister's iTMS accounts.
authorizing iTunes for additional iTMS accounts is basically very easy. all you have to do is +log out+ of one account (click on the account name in the iTunes store window and select +sign out+ from the pop-up dialog) and into the other, and then they will both be authorized. (be sure to just *log out*, not de-authorize ).

  • Updating Song Attributes for Multiple Users Sharing a Media Folder

I have 2 users on the same iMac, each with their own library but sharing the same media folder. If one user updates song attribute information (example - adding the song year), how does the other user update his library with those attribute changes? I tried to do File-->Add to library which is the way one user adds songs to his library that the other user added, but that didn't work. If I play the song, it updates the information. If I select File-->Get Info for a single song, it updates the information, but if I select multiple songs it does NOT update the information.

Got into the same issue today; I selected all the songs and updated the ratings. That helped to sync with the latest attributes. If you care about your song ratings.. then this might not help you.

  • Problem with multiple users sharing a single library

We have a family iMac. I am the only one with Admin privileges. I want to share my iTunes music folder with the other users so we don't end up replicating all the MP3 files. I put the music folder in my Public directory and the other users can see it fine. However, when my daughter bought a song from the iTunes store, we got a "insufficient privileges" error message. I checked and confirmed that she has Read/Write access to my public folder, and to the iTunes Music folder under it - I even tried "Applying to All Enclosed Items". It appears that despite this, she is blcoked from creating a new file or directory in my Public folder. When I changed the setting on her iTunes to point to a directory in her User space, the iTunes purchase went through fine. But now her library is split between what's in my Public folder and what's in her Music/iTunes folder.
Is there a way to fix this so we can continue to use a single shared location for all MPS files? Someone suggested that I use my Shared folder instead; I don't know if that's a better or worse option.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hello.

  • Multiple users/sharing itunes music folder

I have moved the administrors itunes music folder to a shared user folder. I want to do the same for each of the other 4 users folders so we can share music in one computer. Should I rename each folder and put each one into the shared user file, or will all the music files find their way in that folder from the administrator? This question is based on information I received from the folowing support page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93195

how do i make this automatic so that newly downloaded songs just appear in the other users accounts?
    You don't.
Each user has their own iTunes library file which tracks their own iTunes.

  • Quick Q: multiple users sharing one library - which pref's to check ...

I recently picked up a new Mac ... it had been a long time since I set up the accounts to all users could share the same itunes library. Now, I have the library in a central location, all users have THEIR OWN playlists, and all are accessing the music fine. Question I have is whether to check "Keep iTunes ƒ Organized" and "Copy Files to iTunes ƒ ... ." The "main" user has both checked. The other users only have Copy Files to iTunes ƒ ..." checked. Is this correct?
Reason I ask is iTunes seems to be doing a lot of copying / dealing with album artwork after doing an "Add to library" update.
    Thanks in advance.

i use my files from a central hard drive and I don't check keep copies because I don't want it, needs it, require it...it wastes lots of hard drive space.

  • Multiple Users sharing one Table

    Hi Folks,
I'm a newbie with Apex so please treat gently ;-)
Simple "order entry" application: a table for Orders and another table for Order Items. All pretty run of the mill so far,
but instead of one end user (say the vendor company's telephone operator) typing in orders over the telephone for
several customers, consider opening the application to the several customers so that they can type their own orders
    themselves.
The collection of Customers isn't that large (say about 12 or so), hence I'm thinking of just giving them distinct Apex logins
    to the application.
I can pickup the login name from APP_USER, but how to copy this in behind the scenes to "customerID" in the Orders
table - the "customerID" field does represent a column in a database table, but I want to force it to the Apex login name
for whatever customer that is attempting to insert a new order.
All the Apex demo stuff shows simple order-items solutions; I'm trying to have a single Orders table with a column in it that tells
me which customer sent in this order, and for the customers using this table to only see their own orders from the same table.
If I was implementing this on the database I would use some sort of View such as "select * from orders where customer = user",
therefore every user would only see their bit of the orders table.
But how to implement this in Apex?
    Suggestions and comments gratefully welcomed,
    Thanks in advance

  • Firefox 5.0 not Working for Multiple Users Sharing the Laptop

    Hello All,
I upgraded Firefox from 3.15 to 5.0 using my user ID (admin) in Vista Business SP1. The same copy of Firefox 3.15 also used to work fine under my son's user id. The new install of 5.0 works fine under my user id but immediately freezes under my son's id. I reinstalled 5.0 in the same location under my son's user id but no change.
I can get Firefox 5.0 to work under my son's login by running it as administrator but then only my bookmarks, etc. load. None of his profile or bookmarks are present.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks...

Google needs to update the Google Toolbar program for Firefox 5.0.
The Google Toolbar '''7.1.20110512W''' version does work pretty good in Firefox 5.0 by using the Compatibility Reporter extension. But not every feature works 100%.<br />
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
    http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2011/06/enable-google-toolbar-in-firefox-5.html
Google Labs has been working on a GTB 8 version, but it looks like it isn't made for Firefox - just for Internet Explorer. <br />
    http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1111588#toolbar_info <br />
So, maybe Google isn't going to be supporting Firefox any longer. That might be a move to force Google Toolbar users over to Google Chrome, which I believe has all those features built-in.
