Mutating table exception & use of a table column in where clause

Hello,
I have a scenario in which I am getting a Mutating table exception in which I have a trigger using which I insert into a second table in case there is an insert in the first table or the one which is associated with the trigger .
my trigger code has this line which is causing the Mutating table exception :
BEGIN
IF INSERTING THEN
SELECT a,b INTO var_a,var_b
FROM tableA,tableB,tableC
WHERE tableC.c = :new:c
The problem is the tableC reference in my where clause is causing a Mutating table exception , but I don't see any other way in which I can get rid of it cause I need to check if new:c values exists in the table or not , can anybody suggest how I can get rid of the tableC reference in my SQL statement yet be able to check for the value of :new:C in my statement ?

Hopefully this demonstrates the problem , the bold portion or the where clause is where I am getting flummoxed , I need to be able to compare the new value to a column in table C but if I use tableC reference I get mutating table exception
create or replace
trigger myTrigger
after insert or delete or update on TableC
referencing old as old new as new
for each row
DECLARE val1 number; val2 CHAR(1);
BEGIN
IF INSERTING THEN
SELECT tableA.val1,tableB.val2 INTO val1,val2
FROM TableA tableA,TableB tableB
WHERE :new.val1
AND :new.val1 is not null
AND tableA.val2 = :new.val2
AND tableB.val3 = tableA.val3
AND tableC.val4 = :new.val5
INSERT INTO TableD (col1 ,
col2,
col3,
col4,
col5,
col6,
col7,
col8,

:new.val2,

  • How to validate an attribute in a table/EO using a DB Table

    I have an attribute LocationId in DuplicateLocationEO(LocationId,LocationName)
    And I need a validation on this so that user can enter a LocationId that exists in LOCATION_ID of HR.LOCATIONS table
    How to validate an attribute in a table/EO using a DB Table?

    Issue: Insert a value into an attribute if it is valid, Like it is available in another table.
    Scenario: Insert a Location into a DuplicateLocationEO based on LocationEO.
    Solution: Create a Entity Validator on LocationId of DuplicateLocationEO that is list based on query of LocationEO’s LocationId.
    Note: if the validation is created at attribute level, then it leads to NPE or Undesirable results.
    Procedure Steps:
    Step#01: Open desired Entity Object “DuplicateLocationEO”, Go to “Overview” tab & “Business Rules” finger tab.
    Step#02: Select “Entity Validators” & Click “+”
    Step#03: Set the following Rule Definition Tab:
    •     Select Rule Type as “List”
    •     Attribute “LocationId”
    •     Operator “In”
    •     List Type “Query Result”
    •     Enter SQL Statement “Select LOCATION_ID FROM LOCATIONS”
    Step#04: Now go to “Failure Handling” tab & Select radio button for “Error”.
    Step#05: Click the Magnifier link to create a message.
    Step#06: In the “Select Text Resource” popup. Provide the following
    •     Display Value: “Invalid LocationId: {LocationId}. Please enter a valid Location”
    •     Key: INVALID_LOC
    •     Description: message when user enters an invalid location.
    Step#07: Click “Save and Select” Button
    Step#08: Click “OK” Button

  • Is it possible to use LONG columns in WHERE clause or ORDER BY?

    Is it possible to use LONG columns in WHERE clause or ORDER BY?

    Hi,
    LONG data type is deprecated, maybe could you change your column type to LOB ?
    Nonetheless below is a workaround which may fit your needs if forced to use LONG.
    It uses a function which returns you a CLOB. It allows you to use the converted "LONG" column in a WHERE clause.
    Then if you want to order by you have to convert the CLOB to a VARCHAR using DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR.
    SQL> CREATE TABLE my_table (id NUMBER, description LONG);
    Table created.
    SQL> INSERT INTO my_table VALUES (1, 'FIRST LONG');
    1 row created.
    SQL> INSERT INTO my_table VALUES (2, 'ANOTHER LONG');
    1 row created.

  • Using a Dimension/ Measure in a Where clause of Another Dimension/ Measure in IDT

    Hi All
    I am building a Universe using Information Design Tool. In the Business Layer, I need to use a created Business Layer Dimension (not Tables) in a Where clause of another dimension as follow:
    Dimension: "Current Week No"
         SELECT
              budgets.dbo.Calenderweeks.WeekNo
         WHERE
              budgets.dbo.Calenderweeks.EndDate = convert(SMALLDATETIME, fn CURDATE()})
    Dimension: "Last Week No"
         SELECT
              budgets.dbo.Calenderweeks.WeekNo
         WHERE
              budget.dbo.Calenderweeks  .WeekNo = @Select(Dimension\Current Week No) - 1
    The first dimension is working well. However, the "Last Week No" shows NOTHING (I do not get any value)
    Anyone can explain why I am not get any value from the second dimension, and how I can use a Dimension/ Measure in a Where clause of another Dimension/ Measure ?
    Thanks

    Short answer:
    Beware of object WHERE clauses. They are rarely (I'd almost say never) the solution to the problem you're trying to solve.
    Long answer:
    It doesn't work because you are inadvertently filtering the same value twice in two incompatible ways in the same SQL statement.  Both objects SELECT the same column in the database.  The first object uses a WHERE clause to set it to the current week.  The second object attempts to use a WHERE clause to set it to the previous week, but does so by selecting the first object, so you end up with both objects in your data provider.
    Remember that BO is going to place all the objects in your data provider in the same SQL (except of course where your context definition has ensured otherwise.), so you have two WHERE clauses in your generated SQL which attempt to find a line equal both the current week and the previous week... and returns, naturally, no results.
    Rewrite it with a derived table (as explained in the response above) and you'll get what you want.

  • Best Table to use in form for Column Comments maintenance

    Hi,
    I want to create an Oracle Form to maintain Comments for each column in all of user_tables. eg. Order Entry, Customer.
    What would be the best table to use for this excercise. All of our developers
    will need this form to be used each time a new table is created (We don't, or never have, included comments in table creation scripts, although I do apreciate that it would be the better option) and to "catch up on comment maintenance".
    So we need a form to maintain such info. I am just wondering what would be the most appropriate table for this job.
    Thanks people.
    N

    Sorry, I don't really follow Andrews answer, even though he normally gives good advice.
    USER/ALL_TABLES are views of the data dictionary, not tables where you can choose to store something.
    Oracle supports commenting via the COMMENT command, and the results of doing so are visible in data dictionary views ALL_TAB_COMMENTS and ALL_COL_COMMENTS. The comment command has existed for ever (well it was in V5 anyway) and I have always found it surprising that Oracle have never (to the best of my knowledge)included support for it in their tools. Comments are hardly likely to be maintained properly if people need to write sql to see them. I am glad to see that at least TOAD does support the feature.

  • Stored procedure to update the new table by using back up table

    Hi all,
    oracle version -10g
    iam planning to do one time legacy conversion during the migration of one of the tables.
    for that i took the back up of table , now i need to transfer all of the data from the backup table to the new table with some changes..
    so please suggest me how to write the stored procedure?
    back up table name: test t
    new table: test n
    new table will have extra one row .. in that i need to put the logic
    so am planning to write a procedure like below
    create or replace procedure test as
    begin
    insert into TEST T ( u
              v
              w
              X
              y
              z) VALUES
    SET T.U = O.U
    T.V = O.V
    T.W = DECODE(O.W, AD     '01',
                   00     '01')
    T.X = O.X
    T.Y = IF O.W = 'AD' AND O.Y = 'YES' THAN PUT 'AD'
         IF O.W = '00' AND O.Y = 'YES' THAN PUT 'PD'
    IF O.W NOT IN ('AD','00') AND O.Y = 'YES' THEN PUT 'E'
    O.Y= 'NO' THEN PUT 'D'.
         '

    10g is not an Oracle version number. Please run the following:
    SELECT * FROM v$version;What about your situation indicates a requirement for a stored procedure? I wouldn't write one based on what you have posted. It seems, again from what little you posted, that all you need is:
    INSERT INTO <new_table>
    SELECT ... FROM <temp_table>;

    I did not understand your query but have you tried using the HAVING clause?
    HAVING clause allows you to use a "where" like condition for your groupings.
    See http://www.techonthenet.com/sql/having.php for some examples.

  • Summary column with where clause

    Hi all,
    I'm using Oracle Report Builder 10GR2. I have the following issue: In one of the query i have the following result :
    Suppliers     0
    Suppliers     1408
    Total in  BGN     1408
    Customers      6024
    Customers      11779.32
    Customers
    Total in  BGN     11779.32
    Taxes      0
    Taxes      0
    Total in  BGN     0
    Cash      1363.85
    Cash      691
    Cash      991.23
    Cash      688
    Total in  BGN     2355.08I want to make a sum for these columns where corresponds to description " Total in BGN" . Maybe it is a simple task... Do i have a chance to select from a query in a Report Builder?
    If yes, pls specify? Or maybe there is a chance to add a where clause for summary column. But keep in mind that this is one of the queries in the report builder and i have to add summary with this conditions. I cannot change the existing query but probably add a new one.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
    You should use parameter file.Another question i can see you are using 11g.Why don't you use data pump?.
    Data Pump is faster and have more features and enhancement than regular imp and exp.
    You can do the following:
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    Create directory DPUMP_DIR3  for 'Type here your os path that you want to export to';then touch a file:
    touch par.txt
    In this file type the following the following :
    tables=schema.table_name
    dumpfile=yourdump.dmp
    DIRECTORY=DPUMP_DIR3
    logfile=Your_logfile.log
    QUERY =abs.texp:"where hiredate>'01-JAN-13' "then do the following
    expdp username/password parfile='par.txt'
    If you will import from Oracle 11g to version 10g then you have to addthe parameter "version=10" to the parameter file above

  • How to use a lexical variable in a WHERE clause and as a function argument.

    Hello,
    My report has a lexical variable which has values like 'and id in (1,3,4)'. I want to use this variable in two separate queries. In the first, it is used in the WHERE clause, something like:
    .. where date is not null &var;
    In the second query, the variable is used in a function call, something like:
    select * from table (my_function(&var));
    The trouble is that the first query works when the value of the variable is unquoted, but for the second query the value should be quoted.
    Does anyone have an idea how I could solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Frans

    Hi,
    I am using oracle 9i. We are creating a select query and adding where clause at runtime.

    Thanks Archana,
    You are right.
    I think i have not framed my question right.
    Actually its problem with "IN", which i am using in where clause. It working properly till 1000 expressions like "select * from foo where fooid in (n0,n1,n2......,n1000)".
    But throwing exception once the count increases to 1000 like
    "select * from foo where fooid in (n0,n1,n2......,n1000,n1001,n1002)".
    Thanks,

  • Using a report value for a where clause in other report

    Hi All,
    i'm getting kinda nuts here. I created a page with three reports.
    First report show the name of the user who logged in with his/her whole name. Second report shows the year, week, begin/end date of the week for the user in the first report. The third report show the hours the user worked in the week selected in the second report.
    The link between first and second report is on column report. Somehow i managed it to work with second_report.mdw_code = :P3_ACRONIEM. I have no idea were this P3_ACRONIEM item is coming from, while i have no items in my page whatsoever. Now i need to link the second report to the third report. I have to use the second_report.mdw_code, second_report.year and second_report.week but i have no idea how to link these together. Any idea's? (Like making items, but then i have no idea how to link that item to the value in the second report). Please help.
    Kind regards,
    Dave
    The link between the first and the second i could get it to work with :P3_ACRONIEM. I have no idea where this ITEM is coming from, because i have no items in my page (and it's the only page in the application). Then

    Hi Dave,
    If I understand you correctly, you have a one report that lists users, a second report that lists dates and a final report that shows hours worked?
    If so, you may find it easiest to have hidden fields on your page and base the second and third reports on these using appropriate WHERE clauses. (I generally put hidden fields in a region in the "After Header" position)
    So, if the first report contains a USER_ID field, have a hidden field called P1_USER_ID. The link on the first report will branch back to the same page and set the value of P1_USER_ID to #USER_ID# The second report can then use WHERE USER_ID = :P1_USER_ID. When the page reloads, the second report redisplays and is filtered to show only those records relating to the selected USER_ID in the first report.
    To extend this, if the second report contains WEEK_NUMBER, it should have a link that branches back to the same page and sets a hidden P1_WEEK_NUMBER field with #WEEK_NUMBER#. The third report should when have WHERE WEEK_NUMBER = :P1_WEEK_NUMBER AND USER_ID = :P1_USER_ID. You can, if need be, have and set more than one hidden field during each link.

  • How to use floor(to_number(substr x))) in where clause???

    Hi,
    I have a column doc_id which value like abcd.01.023. If I
    select floor(to_number(substr(doc_id, instr(doc_id, '.', 1)+1, instr(doc_id, '.', 1)+1 )))
    it works,
    but get ORA-01722: invalid number if I use in where clause like:
    Where floor(to_number(substr(doc_id, instr(doc_id, '.', 1)+1, instr(doc_id, '.', 1)+1 ))) =0
    Could you tell me how to fix?
    Thansk

    My guess is that you didn't process the same rows with each query. Maybe you have some where conditions on the 'select' query that filters out the offending rows. If the doc_id value could not be converted to a number is should raise the error in either case.
    Besides that, your substring looks wrong to me. Why take "instr(doc_id, '.', 1)+1" characters? Why not just:
    floor(substr(doc_id, instr(doc_id, '.') + 1))
    Even then, the portion after the first '.' must be a valid number.

  • PL/SQL: how to use in parameter in select sql where clause

    Hi
    in a procedure, I need to apply 'in parameter' in 'where clause' along with other table fields. Purpose is to create dynamic select querry with multiple conditions.
    select count(*) from table xx
    where y_code=2008 and v_type in ('SI', 'TI', 'DI') ;
    my requirement is replace 'and v_type in ('SI', 'TI', 'DI')' with in parameter. pls note in paramter may contain null value.
    Regards

    ... e.g. why on earth do you want to pass in a string to be appended to the WHERE clause of an SQL.I second that and I strongly advice NOT to do it. If you really want to do it, then come back and show us, how you would prevent SQL injection. This approach is too dangerous (and too complex) IMHO.
    Do it straight forward as in the article of Tom Kyte (link in the post of BluShadow above)

  • How to use multiple search conditions in the where clause

    Hi,
    Below is my query
    /****** Script for SelectTopNRows command from SSMS  ******/
    SELECT distinct
    ctacct,sum(GLMN02)
      FROM [ODS].[Staging].[tODS_INF_GLPCT]

      where
      CTACCT like '[0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9]-63020-4110%'
    This one gives me the exact result i want, now if i add one more to my where clause like this
    /****** Script for SelectTopNRows command from SSMS  ******/
    SELECT distinct
    ctacct,sum(GLMN02)
    --,ctdesc,CTPAGE
    --SUM(GLMN02)

      CTACCT like '[0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9]-63020-4115%'
    This query doesnt give me the exact values instead it gives me all the weird values.Can someone please help me with how to work on this where clause?
    Thanks

    Hi Patrick,
    This is what i ve tried earlier and it isnt working .If i use the first query
    /****** Script for SelectTopNRows command from SSMS  ******/
    SELECT distinct
    ctdesc,SUM(GLMN02)
    --,ctdesc,CTPAGE
    --SUM(GLMN02)

      where
     CTAcct LIKE '[0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9]-63020-4110%'
       --OR
       --CTAcct LIKE '[0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9]-63020-4115%'
      and GLYEAR = 2014
      and CTDESC = 'Sales'
      group by ctdesc
    The result set is
    Sales
    -182273.96
    And if i use the second query
    SELECT distinct
    ctdesc,SUM(GLMN02)
    --,ctdesc,CTPAGE
    --SUM(GLMN02)
      FROM [ODS].[Staging].[tODS_INF_GLPCT]
      inner join
      [ODS].[Staging].[tODS_INF_GLPGL] ON tODS_INF_GLPCT.CTPAGE = tODS_INF_GLPGL.GLPAGE
      where
     CTAcct LIKE '[0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9]-63020-4110%'
     OR
       CTAcct LIKE '[0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9]-63020-4115%'
      and GLYEAR = 2014
      and CTDESC = 'Sales'
      group by ctdesc
    The result set i get is
    Sales
    -1455441.08
    And i verified that  CTAcct LIKE '[0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9]-63020-4115%'
    this second line of where clause has not desc as Sales.
    I am not sure whats causing the difference in the values.
    Can you please help me with this?
    Thanks
