Mute/unmute volume controls by LabVIEW pragramaticlly ??

Hi all,
Can somebody help me to figure out how I can mute and unmute different volume controls using winmm.dll. I have come across this post ( see below) that shows how to control individual volume controls but I am more interested how to mute or unmute these controls programmaticlly by calling winmm.dll. So specifically I am looking for something were I can send a Boolean true (mute ON) or false (mute OFF) that will to the task.
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=22278&requireLogin=False
I have been looking under "Mixercontroldetail_Boolean" under http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa910066.aspx but I am having very difficult time to configure it properly so that it can do its task. I would really appreciate if somebody can help me on this because I am running out of ideas.
Thanks

nxb,
Have you considered using the waveOutSetVolume function inside winmm.dll, and writing '0' to mute the volume or '65535' to unmute the volume.
I have attached an example that achieves this functionality:

  • Emu 0404 USB Constantly Set to Mute By Volume Control

    I had my emu 0404 running with my onboard sound for a short while (because the 0404 would not work with voice chat software such as ventrillo).
    I have since disabled the onboard sound and uninstalled the driver, but now upon every reboot of my system the sndvolume32.exe (aka Volume Control icon on the taskbar) will set the Wave component of the emu 0404 to mute. I'd rather not have to open up volume control everytime i reboot to unmute my sound. I have tried going through my registry and deleting any remaining trace of the onboard sound (RealTek HD Audio) but no good. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the emu 0404 drivers many times, still no good. I'm also using XP 64-bit, but i don't know if that matters.
    Can anyone tell me how I can stop volume control from setting the Wav output to mute upon rebooting?

    Have you set the S/PDIF mode switch to coax and how 'bout monitoring settings? I've read some issues w/ those switches too (you may need to toggle On/Off couple of times to get switch working properly). There is also thei Unofficial E-MU Forum you can check/ask advicing - http://www.productionforums.com/index.php?f=52

    I have lost sound on my iPad in apps unless I use headphones ,does anyone know how to get sound back without them .I have used the mute volume on the bar at bottom of screen and the slider volume control there only shows when headphones are plugged in !
    I also tried resetting settings all to no avail ...I looked up some advice and watched utube video advice on how to fix without success..
    The volume control button on side does not work ,I got the iPad last August and wonder if it is a fault that means I must return it for replacement from where it was purchased ?

    The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
    So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
    As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
    Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50856.exe
    When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
    When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • How to control the line-in volume input via LabView?

    Anyone know how to control the line-in volume and balance input via LabView?

    I assume you are referring to audio line-in volume control and lerft-right balance...
    If so, then check out this thread:

  • HT2490 my audio volume control defaults to mute whenever I start the computer.  Preference settings have no effect.  Technical support couldn't help.

    Audio preference settings continually default to minimum with Mute ticked whenever I start up.
    Technical support could not help desite 30 minutes or more of trying various approaches.
    The technician "proved" that it is a system issue and not an individual "user" setting that is affecting the computer.
    Any ideas about what is causing the problem and how it might be fixed?

    Thanks for the inquiry and feed-back.  Tech support advised me to unlock the preference dialog box when I was logged in as the administrator.  We changed the volume setting to mid-way on the scale and rebooted but the volume preferences reset to minimum volume with Mute ticked.  He also had me try what I assume is a reset of defaults on boot-up.  I held the Command/Option/P keys and operated the power on switch, then immediately held down the R key which put the computer through a different start up sequence.  Once again the volume was muted and indicated minimum when I checked.  No luck either when we created a New User account and set the volume control to mid-way as previously mentioned.  Other approaches he suggested were too involved for me to accurately relate but involved deletion of some files associated with the sound system.  No joy which is why I have sought other advice.  Thanks anyway for your interest!

  • P755-S5269 volume control makes loud annoying BEEPS with each press to change volume or mute

    I'm having an issue with the volume contol on my P755-S5269 making loud beeps when I adjust the volume.
    It may have seemed sensable to make a noise which is indicative of the volume you might expect to hear when playing media however it seems to be the same LOUD BEEP VOLUME with each press of the - or + volume control.
    I find that this is especially annoying when adjusting the volume at lower levels as it overrides whatever media is being played with FULL VOLUME BEAPING for each press to adjust the volume. This happens both with the speakers or with headphones and it seems like a poor design choice that hopefully can be controled through software or BIOS.
    This LOUD BEEP also happens when toggling the mute button to silent wich seems especially rude when trying to ensure a silent laptop session.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated otherwise I guess I'll have to use the workaround avoid the hardware control and only use the windows volume slider.

    And after a little exploration, I found how you can turn the beep off completely.  Go to Control Panel/Sound/Sounds Tab/Scroll to Default Beep and Select it/In Sounds box below is probably "Windows Ding"/Click on drop down arrow in the box/Scroll to top and select "None"/Apply/OK.  Whew!!!  Result--No more beep when you adjust volume with the regular sliders.

  • HT4085 My volume control indicates headphones not speaker.  No sound from iPad. Have checked the mute button is off and button is set to operate lock rotation.  Any suggestions?

    The iPad sound is not working and the volume control shows headphones rather than speaker.  Mute is off and I cannot see any reference to headphone/speaker settings or switch.  Any suggestions ?

    Most likely something is stuck in the headphone jack. Try to vacuum it out or CAREFULLY use a straightened paperclip to remove any dust or lint. You can also try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears. Try again to see if the problem persists.

  • Volume controls on my Apple BT Keyboard do not control volume on my Mac Mini

    I just updated the OS on my Mac Mini to Yosemite and everything was working fine, but earlier today the volume control buttons on my Apple BT Keyboard stopped controlling the volume on my Mac Mini. I was watching a movie just last night and the keyboard controlled the volume just fine. So the keyboard WAS working fine for a few hours after I installed Yosemite.
    When I press the volume buttons I get the screen display for sound and instead of the up and down volume that I usually get when repeatedly pressing the volume button I get a zero with a line through it. The same thing happens when I press the mute/unmute button so the computer is not muted. And it's not an issue with the F key settings in preferences because the volume buttons DO get a response and display on the screen, but the volume doesn't change and, as I said, instead of the up/down scale I get the zero with a line through it.
    I can change the volume using the mouse and sliding the volume slider in ITunes up or down, but that's the only way. Also, strangely, the volume icon in the Apple bar at the top of my screen is grayed out. When I click on it, the slider shows volume all the way up and it's grayed out. And if I click and drag to try and change that slider, it doesn't respond.
    Basically, it appears that the keyboard is, in some ways, not compatible with the computer. I'm typing with the keyboard now, and all the other buttons work except for the volume up/down/mute buttons. Even the change track, play/pause buttons work just fine. So it's not specific to the music controls. And again, I DO get that display for volume when I press volume up/down/mute with the zero and line through it.
    I've owned Macs for over 10 years and this is the first time I've seen this. Very, very strange so any help possible is appreciated.

  • T61P Volume Control

    The volume control buttons have randomly stopped working on my T61P.  Nor can I get the volume control icon to appear in the system tray, where it always used to be.  The only way to mute/unmute the computer now is to go through the start button, to accessories, to entertainment.  This is highly inconvenient.  What can be causing this?
    Thanks.

    It should be, running XP, as follows;
    R. Click in an empty place on desktop
    L. Click on properties
    L. Click selecting the Settings Tab
    L. Click selecting Advanced (bottom R.)
    L. Click selecting "On Screen Display"
    You should then see the options I posted about. If you do not have the Lenovo graphics and HotKey drivers installed, (plus maybe something else), it may be that these options are not available.
    Hope this helps

  • [ SOLVED ] Volume control icon for Openbox ?

    Hello, everybody
    Can anybody recommend or simply suggest some kind of volume control which can be added to tray ( i.e., clickable icon with a pop-up volume bar ) ?
    I have been looking for this all over the net ( Google ) with no success.
    Thanks in advance!

    I use the mouse wheel to adjust volume.  If you have alsa-utils installed, there is no need to install any other packages. Just edit your rc.xml file to include the following:
    <mouse>
    <context name="Desktop">
    <mousebind button="Left" action="Click">
    <action name="Execute">
    <command>amixer sset Master toggle</command>
    </action>
    </mousebind>
    <mousebind button="S-Right" action="Click">
    <action name="Execute">
    <command>amixer sset Master unmute</command>
    </action>
    </mousebind>
    <mousebind button="S-Up" action="Click">
    <action name="Execute">
    <command>amixer sset Master,0 1+</command>
    </action>
    </mousebind>
    <mousebind button="S-Down" action="Click">
    <action name="Execute">
    <command>amixer sset Master,0 1-</command>
    </action>
    </mousebind>
    </context>
    </mouse>
    To use this, just move your mouse cursor to the desktop (not on any window), press the shift key and then the mouse wheel will adjust the volume. A left button click on the desktop will toggle mute/unmute and a shift-right click will unmute.
    I use the mouse wheel to change workspaces, that is why I use shift-wheel to change volume. You could use the wheel (instead of shift-wheel) to change volume by doing
    <mousebind button="Up" action="Click"> ... </mousebind>
    <mousebind button="Down" action="Click"> ... </mousebind>

  • Ponymix - CLI PulseAudio volume control

    This project was previously known as pulsemix.
    Like many of my other projects, I've written this because I've been unhappy with the current offerings and I felt I could do better.
    This was basically a 1 day hack to create a simple CLI pulseaudio controller. It's quite rudimentary, but it gets the job done. I know there's various scripts around to do this via pacmd, but I dislike parsing command output when volume control should be straightforward. I know about pamixer, but I think it's insane to use boost for option parsing when something like getopt exists, and I don't really care for the interface it provides. Despite that, pamixer gets a bunch of credit for making this as easy as it was to duct tape together. As of this posting, it's ~450 lines of C with no dependencies beyond pulse.
    usage: ponymix [options] <command>...
    Options:
    -h, --help, display this help and exit
    -s, --sink <name> control a sink other than the default
    Commands:
    list list available sinks
    get-volume get volume for sink
    set-volume VALUE set volume for sink
    increase VALUE increase volume
    decrease VALUE decrease volume
    mute mute active sink
    unmute unmute active sink
    toggle toggle mute
    set-sink SINKNAME set default sink
    AUR: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=61976
    git: https://github.com/falconindy/ponymix
    Feature requests and bug reports welcome.

    65kid wrote:- "set-sink" doesn't work. it says "unknown action". seems like a check missing in string_to_verb()
    Yep, spot on. Fixed.
    65kid wrote:- "list" only outputs one of my two sinks
    Crappy linked list logic on my part. It should be fixed (and I really need to find a way to test this).
    65kid wrote:- when I increase by n it actually increases by n-1 / when I decrease by n it actually decreases by n+1 . but that's a little nitpicking and not really a problem.
    Aww, my lazy rounding has been caught. It's less lazy now.
    Thanks. In the meantime, I've also added a cap of 150% on volumes. Over that is probably not useful due to clipping. If you desperately want to go above this, set-volume is unbounded.

  • [Solved] LXDE Volume control

    Hello.
    I have been looking on the wiki and searching the forum, but I cant seem to find a solution to a simple question. I just want a volume control in lxde so I can control volume and mute/unmute the mic etc..! What can I install!?
    Also, I assume the control will go on the right of the time (currently, there is an "x" icon there).
    Thanks guys.

    Sorry about that, wasn't my intention. I just wanted to convey that I followed the standard install and am not trying anything new or novel. Looking back I should have cited the "Beginners' Guide".  I shall drop the FYI, although I have never had a problem using on other forum, but no matter...

    Great thank you for that, appreciate it.
    Also, thank you barzam volwheel works a treat!
