MXML Component Child Objects Loaded?

I have a MXML component with various child components within. My question is:
Are the child components initiated when the MXML component is initialized in AS (i.e. var instance:MyComponent = new MyComponent();)?
The reason I'm asking this is because the child components are null after the component is initialized in AS when stepping through with the debugger.
Thanks!
Mike

See creationPolicy, createChildren and references to deferred instantiation in the doc. Children are not created in the constructor for performance reasons.

• Loading an "MXML Component" at run-time creates a null object.

Hello!
I have a simple Flex 3 project with an MXML application file (the parent) and an MXML component file (the child).
At run-time I create childs of this component, and I add it to the stage using a simple "this.addChild()" call.
Now, besides that, in the creation loop, after every
newChild = new mcComp();
I want to setup a few more custom parameters which belongs to this class. For example, now I want to set a label's text, this label is at the child.
The issue is that the label isn't created until I exit the creation function, and actually, until my code returns control to the Flash Player.
See my problem here?
With custom classes which resides at .AS files, when I instantiate them with the "new" operator, they run their constructure's code and eveything is fine.
But, when I do the same with those MXML components (which by the way are based over the Canvas class), their constructure do not execute and actually no other child of them is created.
Can anyone please advise? I must be missing some keyword here.. hopefully.

Hi Natasha thanks,
The issue is that the creationComplete event doesn't dispatch even when I addChild() the object.
var child:mcChild = null;
for(var i:int; i < 3; i++)
child = new mcChild();
// setting some properties, labels' text etc'
this.addChild(child);
Try this and you'll see - the event doesn't dispatch until you got out of the code flow.
Anyway after looking at Flex's documentation I solved it differently;
After the addChild() call the child receives an "initialize" event. After that I could modify my label.
Thank you though!

• Loading MXML Component Dynamically

Hi all,
I am new to Flex and was trying out small things . I created
a MXML Application and also MXML components.
I tried loading MXML component to application using xmlns and
it worked fine.(
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute" backgroundColor="#ffffff" xmlns:mi="com.*">
<mi:base1 id="base1" />
<mi:base2 id="base2" />
This method is ok if we are loading 3-4 components .
but , if i have to load a mxml component dynamically how do I
do it?
for example ,if base1 and base2 are two components and i want
to load them based on some event performed.
I have tried the method which uses ViewStack and code
myViewStack.selectedChild=Container(myViewStack.getChildByName(selectedNode))
,where each child will have one component declared or initialized.
Following this method is not a feasible when we have hundred
of components to be loaded.
Can anyone help me on this??

• Custom mxml component extending another mxml component

I want to create a custom mxml component that extends another mxml component. Bacially I want structure like Group -> BaseMXMLComponent -> MyMXMLComponent. I understand that it used to be the case that trying to add child component to MyMXMLComponent would throw "Error: Multiple sets of visual children have been specified for this component (base component definition and derived component definition)." error. But i've been reading few articles that says this has been fixed in Flex 4.
My question is.. is it an actually fixed, documented, and supported behavior of Flex 4? or just an undefined behavior that appears to be "fixed" but can change on future update?

I dont know what is happening inside datagrid.But If
you want to maintain a single instance you could use singleton design pattern
read about it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singleton_pattern
public class Singleton
private static var instance:Singleton= new Singleton();
public var userdata:*; // keep user object
public function Singleton()
if (instance != null) { throw new Error('Cannot create a new instance. Must use Singleton.getInstance().') }
public static function getInstance():Singleton
return instance;

I searched for this class, and it is supposed to be in uic.jar. However, when I opened that jar file it was not there. Did I set something up wrong, or is this a bug in jdeveloper?

When I am trying to open a VO inside JDeveloper for editing. The issue appears only to be with the VO's, even the ones that were automatically created at the start of the tutorial. Other types of objects can be opened for editing without incident.

• Approval task SP09: Evaluation of approvalid failed with Exception: while trying to invoke the method java.lang.String.length() of an object loaded from local variable 'aValue'

Hi everyone,
I just installed SP09 and i was testing the solution. And I found a problem with the approvals tasks.
I configured a simple ROLE approval task for validate add event. And when the runtime executes the task, the dispatcher log shows a error:
ERROR: Evaluation of approvalid failed with Exception: while trying to invoke the method java.lang.String.length() of an object loaded from local variable 'aValue'
And the notifications configured on approval task does not start either.
The approval goes to the ToDO tab of the approver, but when approved, also the ROLE stays in "Pending" State.
I downgraded the Runtime components to SP08 to test, and the approvals tasks works correctly.
Has anyone passed trough this situation in SP09?
I think there is an issue with the runtime components delivered with this initial package of SP09.
Suggestions?

Hi Kelvin,2016081
The issue is caused by a program error in the Dispatcher component. A fix will be provided in Identity Management SP9 Patch 2 for the Runtime component. I expect the patch will be delivered within a week or two.
For more info about the issue and the patch please refer to SAPNote 2016081.

• How to build a query across parent and child object fields?

As a part of an Integration Requirement, I need to query Opportunity records that have been Modified after a specific date and time?
Now, Opportunity has a child object called ProductRevenue with a one to many relationship. Is there anyway I can construct a querypage that will fetch records whose Opportunity fields 'OR' its child ProductRevenue's fields have been modified after a specific date and time?
I have tried using the SearchSpec argument, but it does not let me query across child object fields.
For eg:-
ObjOpptyQueryPageInput.ListOfOpportunity.Opportunity.searchspec = "([ModifiedDate] > '01/01/2013 00:00:00') OR ([ProductRevenueData.ModifiedDate] >= '01/01/2013 00:00:00')";
[This above code written in C# thew me an error saying - The object Opportunity does not have an integration component called - ProductRevenueData.ModifiedDate.]
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
As far as I know this can't be done at once because you have to consider :
- Every Opportunity and their time-limited ProductRevenues
AND
- Time-limited Opportunities
If you want to achieve this, you have to consider the 2 datasets separately and make your first query :
ObjOpptyQueryPageInput.ListOfOpportunity.Opportunity.searchspec = "([ModifiedDate] >= '01/01/2013 00:00:00')";
but also another query with the restriction on the ProductRevenue Searchspec.
This shouldn't be too hard because the searchspec functionality is present at each level :
- ListOfOpportunity -> Opportunity (the top-level that you used for your query)
- ListOfOpportunity -> Opportunity -> ListOfProductRevenue -> ProductRevenue (the sub-level that you should use for the second query)
Then in your C# code, you merge the 2 datasets and you end up with your expected result.
Hope this helps,
Charles.

• How to map between child objects in a Siebel Data Map

Hello. I need to map a field from one child object to another child object using a Siebel Data Map.
Specifically, I have an Integration Object set up for FINS Group Policy with 2 child components (Action and Proposal). I want to map the Proposal's name to the Activity's Description. Here's the structure:
Policy (io)
-Name
-Action (io)
--Description
-Proposal (io)
--PPSLFileName (this is the proposal's file name)
I can map from the parent (Policy) to the child (Action) as follows:
Integration Component Map: Action-to_Action
Source Expression: [FINS Group Policy.Name]
Target Field Name: Description
This will map the Policy's Name to the Activity's Description.
I tried these, but they don't work:
1)
Integration Component Map: Action-to_Action
Source Expression: [FINS Group Policy.Proposal.PPSLFileName]
Target Field Name: Description
2)
Integration Component Map: Action-to_Action
Source Expression: [Proposal.PPSLFileName]
Target Field Name: Description
Thanks for any help

Hi,
For your issue,you can use the 2nd point what u hv mentioned :-
Integration Component Map: Action-to_Action
Source Expression: [Proposal.PPSLFileName]

But it has some limitations,i.e the child's(Proposal) cardinality should be 1 or less than 1 i.e no. of instances of Proposal IC should not exceed 1 or else the data map will error out at runtime.

• GetDescriptions() of an object loaded from local variable 'itemDeploymentResult'

Hi
We are urgrading our SAP MII ( purely Java ) systems from 7.31 Sp5 to 7.40 and we got stuck at Configuration phase. We are getting the following error during Queue validation.

Appreciate your quick help

Hi Amarnath,
Where exactly you are getting this error?
If you are getting at JMS Sender communication channel, try to stop and start the JMS communication channel and see the status, also use XPI Inspector to get the exact error log.

• How to import MXML Component in ActionScript

Hello,
I'm having a structure similar to this:
root
- components
- subcomponents (MyCustomMXMLComponent)
- views
In views package I have a piece of AS where I want to instantiate an MXML Component from subcomponents.
In Views:
var data:DisplayObjectContainer=new components.subcomponents['MyCustomMXMLComponent'];
But that throws an error.
I need a syntax similar to the one above because I'm running a for loop and changing data variable to be a new MXML component on each iteration.
Any idea how I can solve this?
Thank you.

OK, so:
var length:int=arrSubcomponents.length;
for(var i:uint=0;i<length;i++)
//Decide parent
var parent:IVisualElementContainer;
if(arrSubcomponents[i].group && arrsUbcomponents[i].group==1){parent=firstGroup;}
else{parent=secondGroup;}
//Add to parent
var childClassName:String='components.subcomponents.'+arrsUbcomponents[i].className;
trace(childClassName);//So far so good the path is correct, I checked.
var childClass:Class=Class(getDefinitionByName(childClassName));
trace(childClass);//It breaks here with the error below
var child:IVisualElement=new childClass() as IVisualElement;
trace(child);
parent.addElement(child);
The error:
ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable FirstCustomMXMLComponent is not defined.

• Problem creating non-persistent Child Objects

I have the need to create a non persistable child object in the
jdoPreStore of a parent object. I then perform some tests on the parent
to determine if the child object needs to be persisted or not. If I leave
the child non persistent it still writes to the database.
I was performing the follwoing piece of code
Class Parent {
// The relationship is a 0 to many
public Child createChild() {
Child child = .....//create non persistent object
child.setParent(this);
getChild().add(child);
It appears that if I remove the getChild().add(child). It does not
persist (as desired).
Is this correct behaviour?? I dont think that it should be, but if it is
then I have a further problem.
If that child object inherits from another object and you remove the
getChild().add(child) kodo outputs an invalid object to the database. It
doesnt insert a row to the child table. But it inserts a row to the
childs inherited object table. This is now an invalid object and will
fail upon loading.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Luke.

JDO has something called persistence by reachability. This means that
objects do not have to explicitly be marked as to be persistent as JDO
will traverse the object graph to ensure that all nodes are persistent.
I think you are seeing this behavior combined with another side
behavior: Kodo requires that both sides of a relation be set.
Basically, keep your objects in synch (set both sides of the relation).
And if you want to hold onto a reference to non-persistent object
before you decide what to do with it, add a transient field or a field
marked "persistence-modifier="none"" in your metadata and then process
those transient fields in jdoPreStore ().
i.e.
if (//businessLogic is true)
persistentField = transientField;

• MXML Component State Question

Hey guys,
I am trying to simplify my code and break out different parts of the app into different MXML Component files. I have taken my login info and created the LoginScreen.mxml file which calls the doLogin function in its (parent) mxml file FlexCMS. It properly sets the state to 'LoggedIn' but then the LoginScreen.mxml file doesnt hide...
Any ideas?

<s:states>
<s:State name="Login" />
<s:State name="LoggedIn" />
</s:states>
<fx:Script>

public function doLogin($username:String, $password:String):void {
loginResult.token = customUserClass.login($username, $password);
protected function loginResultEvent(event:ResultEvent):void {
//Alert.show(event.result.toString(), 'loginResult');
trace(event.result.toString());
if (event.result == true) {
currentState = 'LoggedIn';
trace('currentState: ' + currentState);

</fx:Script>

</s:Panel>
</s:Group>

I did something similar in the past for a few of my apps.
The login screen was a custom TitleWindow component that contained the normal username field, password field and login button and could communicate with the server for authentication purposes. If the authentication was successful then I'd call the PopUpManager's removePopUp method on the login window and change the current state to the authenticated state.

please help me how to query child object using Web Service 2.0 with R17
Thanks in Advance...
regards,

Hi Sathis,
Try replacing:
<ListOfCustomObject3Query>
<CustomObject3>

</CustomObject3>
</ListOfCustomObject3Query>
with:
<ListOfCustomObject3>
<CustomObject3>

</CustomObject3>
</ListOfCustomObject3>
The tags should match those you see when you download the Contact WSDL file.
Thanks,
Sean

• AddChild(Sprite) to an mxml component

Hi list! i'm porting an UML app from Aswing to Flex2, and i
have a problem adding an sprite to a mx:Canvas (or other) mx
component. for example, somethig like this:

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute">
<mx:Canvas borderStyle="solid" height="200" width="80%"
creationComplete="funcion()">
<mx:Script>

private var size:uint = 80;
private var bgColor:uint = 0xFFCC00;
private var borderColor:uint = 0x666666;
private var borderSize:uint = 0;
private function funcion():void{
var child:Sprite = new Sprite();
var halfSize:uint = Math.round(size/2);
child.graphics.beginFill(bgColor);
child.graphics.lineStyle(borderSize, borderColor);
child.graphics.drawCircle(halfSize, halfSize, halfSize);
child.graphics.endFill();
addChild(child);

</mx:Script></mx:Canvas></mx:Application>
TypeError: Error #1034: Error de conversión forzada: no
se puede convertir flash.display::Sprite@3237871 en
mx.core.IUIComponent. (It can't cast from flash.display::Sprite to
mx.core::IUIComponent)
At flex2 reference it is marked as addChild(DisplayObject )
in every mxml component, not IUIComponent at any point.
I can't use swfloader because i need to control this sprite
with many mxml forms. Any idea?
thank you!

Well, if I had read the complete documentation on addChild, I
would have seen this:
Note: While the child argument to the method is specified as
of type DisplayObject, the argument must implement the IUIComponent
interface to be added as a child of a container. All Flex
components implement this interface.
Since Sprite is not a Flex component, it does not implement
IUIComponent, hence the error.
Do this instead:
import mx.core.UIComponent;
var child:UIComponent = new UIComponent();
// carry on from here
To use this with Flex you need to have something that
implements IUIComponent so that it can be controlled by the Flex
framework.

• Capture event from mxml component

I have an accordian control in my main mxml application. Each
item in the control is a custom mxml component that I created that
consists of a label and some text. When the label is clicked, I
need to fire off a message to the containing application with a
string value. I'm not sure how to do this. Here's what I have right
now. I'm not sure if I'm going down the right track but if I am,
how do I pass the string argument with the event and then capture
this event and the argument in the main application?

<mx:Canvas xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
width="200">
<mx:Script>

private var _title:String = "";
private var _desc:String = "";
[Inspectable(defaultValue=true)]
public function set Title(title:String):void{
_title = title;
public function set Description(desc:String):void{
_desc = desc;
private function SetMovie(url:String):void{
dispatchEvent(new Event("MovieTitle"));
[Bindable(event="MovieTitle")]

</mx:Script>
<mx:VBox>
<mx:Label id="lblTitle" text="{_title}" width="190"
click="SetMovie('testmovie.flv');/>
<mx:Text id="txtDescription" text="{_desc}"
width="190"/>
</mx:VBox>
</mx:Canvas>

You have several issues, and several options here. First, a
custom event can pass any data you want, and is not very hard to
create.
However, there is a still easier way. All of the Event
objects have a "target" and "currentTarget" property which give you
a reference to the object that dispatched the event.
So, in your component, implement a public property, say like
this:
public function get Title():String{
return _title;
then in a handler function you can do:
private function onMovieTitle(event:Event):void {
var sMovieTitle:String = event.currentTarget.Title; //watch
out for reserved words, though
There are two ways to listen for an event. One easy way is to
use a bubbling event. Some folks advise against bubbling event
because of potential event name collisions, but this may not be a
concern for you. It has not yet concerned me enough to make me
avoid using bubbling.
The other way is to declare handler on the component itself.
Also, if you use a metadata tag, you can assign the handler on the
mxml tag, instead of using addEventListener():
<mx:Canvas xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
width="200">
<mx:Metadata>
[Event(name="MovieTitle", type="flash.events.Event")]
</mx:Metadata>
<mx:Script>
Then, in you main app:
<myComp id="mc1" ... MovieTitle="onMovieTitle" ...
Without the metadata, you would do
mc1.addEventListener("MovieTitle",onMovieTitle)
Using a bubbling event:
change the dispatchEvent to this:
dispatchEvent(new Event("MovieTitle",true)); //the 'true'
makes it bubble
Then, in the main app, listen ON the main app(this):
this.addEventListener("MovieTitle",onMovieTitle);
