I have a MacBook Pro bought late 2011. Runs on Mavericks. Recently it became very slow and one day last week while using it, the rainbow cursor spun for over 15 minutes after which it was restarted by pressing the power button. After that, it went directly to OS X Utilities giving me options to
- Restore from Time Machiine back up (which i do not have),
- Disk Utility (the message there was "Live System Repair is not supported")
- Get online help (here)
- Reinstall OS (but the harddisk is not recognised)
When attempting to download the recovery file online, the attached picture is the result. (Error code -2100F).
Please what can be done to restore the Macbook? Wiping it out and losing data is ok with me.

I suspect that your HDD is the problem.
See if you can boot into the recovery partition, OPTION down. If you can, from the four option menu select Disk Utility. Then run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.
If that fails, try to boot your MBP OPTION+COMMAND+R which should result in a display with a revolving globe. This connects your MBP to Apple servers and will install the original OSX that came with the MBP. Try to repair the HDD first. You will need a solid Internet connection.
If no success, then it is a trip to the Apple store genius bar and/or a new HDD.

You have been syncing the iPhone with iTunes on your computer without a SIM card inserted in the iPhone for how long?
If the iPhone says connect to computer, this means there is a problem with your iPhone that requires restoring the iPhone with iTunes. As already provided, not having a SIM card inserted in an iPhone does not prevent or shouldn't prevent syncing the iPhone with iTunes. Depending on the iPhone model, it is required in order to restore the iPhone with iTunes.

Apparently I am old and a dummy and it seems I accidentally uninstalled Quick Time from my computer instead of uninstalling something else that I was intending to uninstall. I've tried the download from the apple.com site, but it never shows up in a file other than some binary file and I don't have the option to "run" after download, just save to this binary file. Welcome to the Support Communities! First of all, you are not old or a dummy. I'm sure you can give me hundreds of examples of things you can do because of your knowledge and experience, so give yourself a break . I just want to clarify .... are you using a Windows computer or a Mac? I'm going to assume Windows and include an article for you that will explain how to delete the iTunes application and all of it's components (because Quicktime is tied to this program). This will not affect your iTunes library, only the application itself. Once that is done, you should be able to work with Quicktime again.

Having just looked at the website, I agree its sparse in information.
I have used VLC for 7 years when I bought my last Mac.
Its my default video player and plays 95% of what i throw at it. It plays large HD files smoother and more reliable than any other player.
Yes It will play QT and yes it has a useful playlist feature.

View > Toolbars = click on that Toolbar or any that don't have a check-mark
If you hid the Menu bar and can't see the View menu item, hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. 
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.

Registration key for the Mac and Windows OS are brought separately. Meaning you need to buy one for the mac and one for windows. These keys aren't cross platform...sorry.

How to locate a Quick Time Pro software download on my iPad 2?

I recently purchased Quick Time 7 Pro for OS X on my iPad 2 but cannot locate the download. The Apple Store advises that the software has been delivered electronically but does not state where. I have received an Apple invoice with the registration code.
Can anyone advise me where I can locate the software download?

If you bought this for your iPad, you won't have much success. Quick Time Pro is an OS X plug-in, not an iPad app. You can't actually download software to an iPad, other than an App from the App Store. The software you purchased should be on your Mac.
