My drop down menus made in Fireworks wont work after I put them in Dreamweaver
I am trying to make a site for my work. And I made a drop down menu within Fireworks. I pasted the code into the place I wanted it to go on Dreamweaver, then I saved the page and went into Internet Explorer. I rolled over my buttons that were supposed to be drop downs and they only work if you refresh then roll over and once you take your mouse off of it, you'd have to refresh again to see the buttons. I have tried and tried to figure this out but I just cant seem to. PLEASE HELP!
JoLynn
Here is the link to my page
http://lakechelanmirror.bravehost.com/
The drop down menus are supposed to be the NEWS button and MIRROR BLOG button.
I THINK this is the code for the menu..
var mmOpenContainer = null;
var mmOpenMenus = null;
var mmHideMenuTimer = null;
function MM_menuStartTimeout(hideTimeout) {
mmHideMenuTimer = setTimeout("MM_menuHideMenus()", hideTimeout);
function MM_menuHideMenus() {
MM_menuResetTimeout();
if(mmOpenContainer) {
var c = document.getElementById(mmOpenContainer);
c.style.visibility = "inherit";
mmOpenContainer = null;
if( mmOpenMenus ) {
for(var i in mmOpenMenus) {
var m = document.getElementById(mmOpenMenus[i]);
m.style.visibility = "hidden";
mmOpenMenus = null;
function MM_menuHideSubmenus(menuName) {
if( mmOpenMenus ) {
var h = false;
var c = 0;
for(var i in mmOpenMenus) {
if( h ) {
var m = document.getElementById(mmOpenMenus[i]);
m.style.visibility = "hidden";
} else if( mmOpenMenus[i] == menuName ) {
h = true;
} else {
c++;
mmOpenMenus.length = c+1;
function MM_menuOverMenuItem(menuName, subMenuSuffix) {
MM_menuResetTimeout();
MM_menuHideSubmenus(menuName);
if( subMenuSuffix ) {
var subMenuName = "" + menuName + "_" + subMenuSuffix;
MM_menuShowSubMenu(subMenuName);
function MM_menuShowSubMenu(subMenuName) {
MM_menuResetTimeout();
var e = document.getElementById(subMenuName);
e.style.visibility = "inherit";
if( !mmOpenMenus ) {
mmOpenMenus = new Array;
mmOpenMenus[mmOpenMenus.length] = "" + subMenuName;
function MM_menuResetTimeout() {
if (mmHideMenuTimer) clearTimeout(mmHideMenuTimer);
mmHideMenuTimer = null;
function MM_menuShowMenu(containName, menuName, xOffset, yOffset, triggerName) {
MM_menuHideMenus();
MM_menuResetTimeout();
MM_menuShowMenuContainer(containName, xOffset, yOffset, triggerName);
MM_menuShowSubMenu(menuName);
function MM_menuShowMenuContainer(containName, x, y, triggerName) {
var c = document.getElementById(containName);
var s = c.style;
s.visibility = "inherit";
mmOpenContainer = "" + containName;
Only half works in opera, menu doesn't stay visible long enough to click on it.
I'm also getting "<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="65001"%>" at the top of every page?

I ran Advanced System Care3 disk optimizer program on my computer and now the drop down menus in Firefox open too fast. Mostly in the Bookmarks menu with nested folders. I went into the registry and changed all the "MenuShowDelay" data values back to 400(which were changed to 200 by the program. All the other windows programs drop down menus went back to the original speeds and are fine. Firefox did not change back to it's original delay speed. Where is the registry entry or configuration file for Firefox? How can I slow the menu down?

Help with actionscripting multiple drop-down menus
So I have 3 different drop down menus that I want to use, and I want them to all work together so that if I have drop down menu number one open, the 2nd menu will drop down while the 1st one is still down.

I have been trying to add the web addresses in my Fireworks nav bar drop down menus. I can't get them to "take". I add the address, click done and some of them save and some don't. I am pulling my hair out! HELP!
the easiest way is constructing your menu with frame labels
now i have no way of knowing how you are constructing it ..so
this may not work for you ...i assume that you have created a main
button ...that has been converted into a symbol & then
duplicated to create all other buttons
okay here it goes ..i hope i dont confuse you
i will explain how to create 1 button with 4 submenu items
with the trems that i mentioned above
but iam not going to explain all the details of creating a
whole nav bar
because it just takes too much typing ...i assume you already
know this
sooo ! ...lets say this is the Portfoio button ...inside the
symbol now
create 8 layers ...the order is going from top to bottom
actions
labels
submenu Logos
submenu Illustration
submenu Animation
submenu Coolstuff ."you will name your button items how you
like" ...
main button....lets just say Portfolio !
invisible btn for main button
so now on with the hard stuff
create 20 frames ...stop action on frame 1 ...frame 9
...frame 20
on the labels layer now ....name frame1 "Closed" ...frame 10
"Open"
on the submenu Logos layer ...create a keyframe on frame 10
all frames before the 10th frame will be blank frames
repeat that for the rest of the submenu items
on the main button layer you will just place the main
Portfolio button on frame 1
& on the invisible button layer ..the inv btn is going to
be placed on frame 10
all this is iam hoping your have converted everything into1
symbol
all you need to do know is attach code to the main Portfolio
button & the invisible button
so click on the Portfolio button
on (rollOver) {
gotoAndStop("open");
invisible button
on (rollOver){
gotoAndPlay("closed");
& that should be good ...very simple !
then just repeat this process for every button that makes up
your nav bar ....& it doesn't matter if your inv buttons
overlap each other or your main nav buttons are touching each other

Drop down menus on iPad, the first selection in the drop down will not load as a selection when using safari, what can I do? I use this for my mobile, on-site auto repair business and not being able to call up repair and diagnostic info and reference for some cars is troublesome for sure. It works fine on the computer and I have installed a remote desktop app as a workaround but it is unreliable because the desktop is not business dedicated and may be off or in use at the time. So is there a known fix for this?
Let me paint a more descriptive picture, visualize 4 drop down selection menus, first one is for year, next one is for make, 3rd one is model and the last one is for engine size/type. If I wanted to choose a 2012 vehicle it wont work because it is the top selection on the list. This can be forced by selecting any other year and then coming back to 2012. Ok fine, but then let's say I wanted to choose Acura as the make, well it won't take it because again it's the top selection. Again you work around it be selecting any other make and coming back to Acura. Ok now select the model, same trend follows. But now since most Acura vehicles come with dedicated engines and no optional engines I have only 1 selection in that final drop down menu and it will not take my selection and therefore never let me proceed to the info I need.
This is also true when ordering parts from my wholesaler's website, they use drop downs and I can only get to that last drop down and then I'm stuck. This is blindingly frustrating, what options do I have. I'm not opposed to any avenue at this point.Did you ever figure this out? I bought my iPad last week to use in my business as well. I assume you are trying to use alldata? That is where I noticed this same issue. I had problems with identifix working with safari but downloaded a different browser and that works fine. Alldata does not work with either browser. The main difference is that on identifix if there is only one engine selection, it automatically selects the only option and continues to the home page. With alldata you have to make the selection manually even if there is only one option. Honestly if I can't get this to work I am going to return the iPad as it looses a significant amount of usefulness to men

Can't Scroll Inside Drop Down Menus
I just got a new HP laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit), installed Firefox 11 (now updated to 12), and discovered that when using the track pad (Synaptics Touch Pad v8.1. Driver provided by Synaptics, version 15.3.29.0 dated 10/13/2011), I can not scroll inside drop down menus.
To replicate, go to this link: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/sss/
Click the drop down for the category to search. Use the track pad to scroll the list. Mine closes the list and returns focus to the browser instead of scrolling the list. It then scrolls the browser window instead. This works fine in IE. Things I have tried:
Safe mode
Unchecking smooth scrolling
Unchecking autoscrolling
Unchecking hardware acceleration
And just about any of the various combinations of the above things. I also tried restarting Firefox each time I made a change. Nothing seems to solve this issue.
Oddly enough, if there is a text window inside the page (like the on I am writing this in), I can scroll that just fine. Once I move my mouse out of the box, it scrolls the main page just fine. I don't think it's a matter of the focus following the mouse, it has something to do with scrolling drop down boxes specifically it seems.
Also, I should note that all the pages I have problems with work fine in IE the way they SHOULD work in Firefox.It's Synaptics Touch Pad v8.1. It is using a driver provided by Synaptics, version 15.3.29.0 dated 10/13/2011, and is supposedly the most current version. I have tried getting newer off the HP website, letting Windows search for the most current version, and looking at the Synaptics site, but I still end up with the same version.
I have double checked the scrolling regions to make sure I am within them as well as all the other settings regarding the touch pad. In fact, I had to enable the scrolling regions because they were disabled by default and instead used two finger scrolling. For what it's worth, two finger scrolling gives me the same result - it does not scroll the drop down menu.
As I said, it works just fine in IE and all other programs, so I'm not sure I understand how the drivers for the touchpad could be the issue. It seems to me it's more likely that Firefox is not interpreting the "signal" from the touchpad correctly, yet IE does. Then again, I've been wrong before... -

Making drop down menus in server side includes
Can drop down menus be part of a server side include? If not,
how do I have drop down menus in my pages without copying the code
to all the pages individually?
I am working in Dreamweaver 8 on a Mac. I've made the drop
down menus using the behaviors window. Everything is fine in the
original html file. When I use the file as an include in my main
page, the javascript drop downs do not work. I have the style sheet
used in the drop down file attached to the main page. What do I
need to do with the main page to have the drop down menu work? I
need to use this drop down on the majority of my pages. Thanks!
Note: I've taken out the extra code in the include file

Best practice for creating large drop down menus?
I'm attempting to transition from using Photoshop to Fireworks cs4 for design and prototyping of websites.
Right now I'm working on re-creating a nav bar design in FW. The design calls for large drop down menus with lots of non-standard content similar to nymag.com
I've got each button setup as a 2 state button, however when the large drop down spans across to the right, the other buttons next to it appear to be over the first fly out. If I move that layer on top of the others, all the other buttons begin to act strangely. Any ideas?I have to agree with Pixlor and here's why:
http://www.losingfight.com/blog/2006/08/11/the-sordid-tale-of-mm_menufw_menujs/
and another:
http://apptools.com/rants/menus.php
Don't waste your time on them, you'll only end up pulling your hair out :-)

Drop down menus / search engine friendly
Hi,
I've been tasked with creating a new company website and having it go live April 10th. I would like to use iWeb to get it done.
Are drop down menus possible with iWeb? To be clear, I'm talking about if you hover your cursor over a menu item; say products, a drop down menu will appear listing specific products and link to that products page.
The other main requirement is that the site be search engine friendly. Our current website is in Flash and is virtually invisible to search engines.
I hope that these questions haven't been answered by digging just a little further, it's just that I'm under a tight deadline and must get started.
I've been a Mac user since 88 and I would like to work on my preferred platform. I've got a decent background in design. (I'd like to not use Dreamweaver under this deadline) Our current website is www.rapid.com. It was made from a flash template that I was told to use so I made the best of it.
I'm going for a clean looking non fussy user experience, unlike what we have now.
Thanks for any help you may have.As Massimo says, they are just fine in the basic sense.
The adminition you are familiar with was related to *any*
menu system that
embedded your actual menu links within javascript
'document.write' commands,
just the way the DW pop-up menus prior to CS3 does, and the
way the FW
pop-up menus prior to FW8 did.
If you can look at the HTML on the psge, and SEE the links in
the HTML, then
a search engine will also be able to see them, and therefore
spider your
site.
BUT - if you have sub-menus, and I have javascript disabled,
*I* will not be
able to access those sub-menu links when I come to your site.
Further,
neither will anyone with a screen reader. That's a
problem....

Drop down menus/layout tables
Hi,
I'm trying to redesign a church website that I built last
year. I used Frontpage mostly using layers. I made the page for 800
resolution screens, so the content sits to the left of the page
with blank spots to the right using higher resolutions.
I want to center the page with colored margins. I know I can
use layout tables to do that, but I havent figured out how to make
drop down menus without using layers. I've gotten this far
http://www.216west3rd.org/GraySite/index.htm
and it is exactly what I want it to look like, just cant figure out
the dropdown menu thing.
I have Dreamweaver 8 and would upgrade to Dreamweaver CS3 if
it could do that task.
www.statesman.com (our local Austin newspaper) is an example
of what I want to do. Content centered with drop down or cascading
menus.
I'm not a codewriter, I only use design modes. Can anyone
help me with this?
Thanks in advance,

Drop Down Menus Aren't Dropping Down!
Hey and thanks in advance for any assistance!
I had to update my drop down menus in DW CS4. I made the necessary changes, tested it on my computer and proceeded to update every template, then every page on the site.
No problems as the menus worked fine on my computer, even after refreshing the pages.
The problem lies that on every other computer in our office, the menus don't drop down, but extend horizontally across the page and off the screen now.
My computer - drop downs.
Other computers - horizontal mess.
Here is our site!
Suggestions?
This was my first revision of the menus since I upgraded to CS4 (which I find more difficult). The code view on my index page had about 9 lines of space between each menu line, so I took that out. Could that have caused a problem?
On a different note, in my viewing pane - my "page window" extends behind my folder view and I can't scroll up or down without minimizing the folders. Also the properties view used to fit nicely below the page window and beside the folders window, but now it extends behind the folders panel and I can't seem to fix this.
And don't get me started on why DW would eliminate the ability to change colors without having to make styles! I still haven't figured out how to do that yet.
Any assistance would be appreciated!
Thanks.
Mark
NC Youth SoccerOkay, I've tried that and it didn't work. But even better, DW CS4 kept locking up (giving me the 'white screen of death') and closing down. When I tried to open DW again, it went through the motions and "disappeared" - would not finish the process.
So I rebooted and tried again. Same thing. I reinstalled DW CS4 and it appeared to install fine. I opened it up, the screen came up, it loaded the cache, scanned my 2600+ folders and pages . . . and disappeared.
Bottom line I can't access Dreamweaver. It's always locked up on me (a couple of times a day), but it's never been this buggy. I don't know if it's a compatibility issue with Win 7 or what. I'm seriously thinking of going back to MX as I dislike CS4 so much right now.
As I said before, I never-never-never had these problems before I upgraded to CS4. Right now my feelings for DW are not in a good place!
Thanks for trying anyway. If you have any suggestions, I'm more than open to them!

What's the best way of creating drop down menus on CS3?
Hi people,
I'm using CS3 now. I used to build drop down menus in
fireworks, but now with CS3 theyre a bit glitchy and I have
problems centering the page, as fireworks CS3 now generates CSS for
each menu - (dreamweaver also gets confused which CSS to use?)
Is SPRY menus the way to go now? It looks quite time
consuming styling them with CSS? I quite like using rollover
images, is this going to make life hard doing it the SPRY way?
Any tips or advice would be appreciated before I start.
Whats your experience of SPRY shall I go for that or stick to
something more tradional?"BeardedFlipFlop" <[email protected]> wrote

It's not really all that time consuming if you have an
understanding of
CSS... the stylesheet that is used for the Spry menus is
fully commented
(thought it could be better explained in some cases), but
once you
understand what each section does and how to make the style
change it's not
that difficult.
Otherwise, go with the tutorial already posted.
