My ears are ringing from blast of white noise from Logic 9

NEVER had this happen in Logic 8 (or any other software for that matter) on same hardware.. Not only can you not OPEN Logic 9 by clicking on a logic 9 file, SAVE in Logic 9 without it putting audio out of sync, now I discover you cannot RECORD for more than a few minutes without getting a blast of white noise. Seriously, my ears are still ringing 8 hours later from this noise. If they are still ringing Monday I am going to the hearing specialist and Apple WILL be paying the bill. I pray no serious damage has been done and that I will still be able to do mastering work. If I monitor through Logic, even at 128 the monitored audio will occasionally slip out of sync and there will be like a 2 second delay in the monitored audio, then eventually a deafening blast of white noise. To release software in this untested state is totally negligent, irresponsible and downright dangerous. Disgraceful.

had this happen yesterday. at least we could SEE it in the waveform and turned down to check it. no reason at all to get it, but it just decided to do it.
BTW, i used to have this happen to me in L7 and L8 sporadically after a few mins of recording on the same track, never did understand the reason behind it.
Right, it's not new to Logic 9.
I always thought this may happen when either... (pick one or any combination thereof)
1. A drive was asleep (not necessarily the recording drive) and wakes up.
2. The OS starts writing a swap file to the system drive.
3. Journaling kicks in to record changes in the disk structure.
I turn Journaling off on any audio drives.

  • Getting White Noise in Logic Playback

    Hi, I'm getting White Noise on an audio
    track I recorded on playback
    It sounded fine while recording,
    the raw AIF files sound fine on their own,
    but it is white noise in the Logic file
    please advise, thanks

  • Bypass master volume for constant white noise play (KDE)

    Is there a way to play sound while ignoring the master volume control, even bypassing mute?
    I have tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and I get relief of these symptoms by playing white noise 24/7, I currently am using http://playnoise.com/ but there are many different sources of white noise, it could even be an mp3. I like it to be playing at the same volume, all the time, no exceptions. But, when I turn the volume up and down via my media keys or system tray, for a song playing in Amarok or a video playing in YouTube the white noise is also turned up and down, this is not needed or desired.
    What I'm trying to do goes against the definition of what a master volume is, but I figure it's worth a shot to ask.
    The next option would be to have volume adjusters for applications which I have seen done before. 90% of the time I'm adjusting web browser volume.
    (I have medium-ish experience with Arch)
    Thanks

    tricky, but you could achieve that with alsa's softvol plugin.
    first you need to have alsa-plugins installed
    then add something like this in your ~/.asoundrc
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "softvol"
    ctl.mixer0 {
    type hw
    card 0
    pcm.softvol {
    type softvol
    slave.pcm "hw:0,0"
    control {
    name "Master2"
    card 0
    this should create software volume control called 'Master2' and make applications use it as default (you need to restart all audio applications and sound servers until it takes effect.)
    now you should be able to play white noise from mp3 and set the 'real' master channel for it's output, while all other applications are controllable via Master2. Ideally you should set your card's real master volume to 0db
    only issue with this that your white noise will be played full blast unless the application from where you're playing it from has its own software volume control. You can solve this by adding another softvol device in your .alsarc (simply copy the pcm.softvol part and change the control name from Master2 to something else) and use it as output and volume control for the noise.

  • MBP 17" report, occasional white noise from right speaker

    My 2.16Ghz MBP with 100GB 7200rpm drive and 1GB memory arrived a few days ago. Since then I have been installing software, running apps, and generally putting it through it's paces. I have also added a 1GB stick from Crucial. On the whole the MBP has been great, except for a few (hopefully minor) problems:
    1. It gets quite warm on the left palmrest, and gets uncomfortably hot between the keyboard and the screen. This is just during casual use, web surfing, downloading updates etc. The case temperature is about the same as my old 667MHz TiBook after it had been at 100% CPU for several hours (encoding video). I dread to think how hot the MBP will get doing something demanding.
    2. When closed the screen appears to be slightly bent, the gap at the two front corners is about 1mm wider than the gap at the latches.
    3. I have started to get hard crashes during the boot up sequence. Specifically after the grey apple I get the greyed-out multi-language reboot message and have to reboot. If I continue trying to reboot it eventually manages to get past the grey apple and boot up normally (usually this takes 2 or 3 attempts). I suspect this is due to something I've installed, possibly some Canon software for my MP750 printer.
    4. I have now heard a white noise/static sound coming from the right speaker on 5 occasions. Three of those occasions were while booting (one of them was when I first turned the MBP on! Not a good sign). The computer boots normally, but with this strange noise! The other two times where when I was launching apps. On each occasion the noise lasted about 3-5 seconds before stopping. It's more of a hissing noise, not a mooing or a whining noise. It sounds exactly like the speakers on a vinyl record player when the needle is in between songs.
    Obviously all of the issue are annoying. However I'm only REALLY concerned about item 4. Item 1 was kind of expected after doing some pre-purchase research. Item 2 is annoying in a £1800 laptop, but I can reluctantly live with it. Item 3 is frustrating but I'm sure I can 'cure' it by removing software (it only started happening after a day or two of fairly heavy use). Item 4, on the other hand, is intolerable
    Anyone have any suggestions? Advice appreciated. The nearest Apple store is about an hour away, so advice other than "take it to a Mac 'genius'" would be appreciated.
    17" MacBook Pro 2.16GHz Mac OS X (10.4.6) 2GB RAM

    Well, that was 15 minutes of life wasted typing out the above post that I'll never get back
    I was hoping for some sort of 'expert' advice from all the users here with thousands of posts. Evidently not.
    Anyway ... I have (kind of) fixed the problem myself. Resetting the power management unit almost completely solves the static noise problem. I say almost, because since resetting the PMU (about 2 weeks ago now) I have heard the static noise ONCE. This is compared to hearing it around 3 or 4 times a day prior to the PMU reset.
    This at least makes me slightly more confident that this is a software/firmware glitch, rather than a hardware fault.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • HT1349 I have a large Windows iTunes library (18k+ songs, 650+ movies, 2.4K TV shows) and since upgrading to iTunes 11 files are disappearing from my library. Some music files re-appear in the cloud which means I have to re-download and re-convert to MP3.

    iTunes 11 is rapidly becoming a disaster for me. I have a dedicated Windows 7 machine running iTunes to service 3 Apple TV's, 2iPhones, 2iPods, and an iPad. Itunes 11 is very sluggish with my large library and has now started 'losing' files to the cloud.  This means that music I purchased in 2005 is being removed from my library and subsequently seems to become available as a ne cloud download.  This may well be because I convert all ACC files to MP3 and delete the ACC (my ears are too old to care about the reduction in quality). Either way, it's detrsoying my playlists and means I have to re-download files.
    Does anyone know how to stop this?  I have no interest in the cloud (my library is too big and contains hundreds of ripped CD's and Vinyl records that can't be matched).
    Thanks

    Because back in the early days very few devices supported AAC so converting to MP3 allowed me to use iTunes and other devices (like a $1000 dollar MP3 player with a 3.5" hard disk drive that pre-dated iPods ) as well as my gen 1 and 2 iPods.  I can't hear the difference (I'm old...) so the files being smaller is still an advantage (even though I have 64Gb iPods and iPhones these days.  Anyway, the major issue is iTunes deleting the MP3's and messing up my playlists because the file it downloads just goes in the library - not the original playlists. The secondary issue is how do I know it's truly replacing all the files it deletes. It's just scary and I don't like it.
    BTW, I'm not anti-cloud and in fact use iCloud extensively with my iPhones/Apple TV's for photo sharing/backups but iCloud is useless for media sharing. I have just over 2tb of media data shared on my iTunes server (and remotely accessible on my iPhone/iPad using WebDav to my home server).
    ...and none of my media is pirated. I have crates of vinyl, CD's,DVD's, and Blu-Rays along with thousands of iTunes store receipts!

  • TV white noise after starting from standby

    Hi,
    Recently I have installed ShowShifter. It's a great program and very stable. Everything works as it should from excellent TV picture and sound, recording, showshifting, playback, etc  . Except one thing is not working correctly: the recording from standby  .
    When I schedule a recording and put the machine into standby it will start the recording as planned. When I then later play the recording the picture is ok, but there is a lot of white noise. Also when I select TV I get white noise. After a restart the TV programs are ok, but the recording has still the white noise.
    I did some testing and found out that when you go into standby and come back that always the white noise is present in the TV programs.
    The following drivers are installed: 4.31 NVidia Audio drivers and the latest beta TV Tuner drivers.
    Does anyone has the same problem? Did you find a solution?

    Sorry, I think I wasn't clear in this respect  . Yes, white noise in sound.
    I have found out that the MSI MS-8606 Video Capture Driver 4.102.11 from 15042004 (the new beta driver) is the one that is not working correctly. When you disable it and then enable it again then the white noise IN SOUND is gone and the tv sound is back.
    I have reinstalled the older driver from 082003. That one doesn't has the 'standby' problem, but gives me a grappy picture  . So that's a no go.
    What could happen to this beta driver during 'standby' after using ShowShifter that it is not working correct anymore  ?

  • Facetime phantom calls and calls that are not from who they say they are

    My wife has an iPhone 4 and twice in the last week Facetime calls that say they are coming from her mother have been originated by someone other than her mother. The second time this happened the stranger made an obscene gesture. Since Apple is routing the call over the Internet, and since the iPhone is obviously phoning home, it should be easy for Apple to know the source and destination but when my wife called the Apple tech seemed to just want to read a script instead of investigate this potentially serious breach of security. In addition to these two incidents there have been numerous others where her displays says her mother is calling via Facetime but yet her mother is not calling. Seeing as my wife Facetimes with her mother, with my children getting on the phone as well, I find this possible issue is worth more than a reset your settings on the phone reply. Has anybody else heard of or seen issues like this?

    This is wild, this just happened to us.
    My husband and I both have iPhone 4's. I left my iPhone on my bed in a room by itself while my husband and I were downstairs in the Family Room together.
    His phone starts ringing and it's a FaceTime from me, but I'm in front of him and my phone is upstairs.
    Ok, so of course if this is simply an breach of our phone protocol - that concerns me of course. But to be honest, I'm relieved to know there's a reasonable explanation - because otherwise we would have to call 911 to do a more thorough search for intruders in our house.
    But seriously, what's going on here. My husband and I want to disable Facetime altogether. Why have it if it won't work securely?

  • How do I remove inner rings from a complex geometry of SDO_GEOMETRY type

    Hi All,
    I am just looking out for a best way to remove inner rings from a complex geometry of SDO_GEOMETRY using ORACLE packages. I have a complex geometry called MAINGEOM which is having two disjoint elements ELEM1, ELEM2 and each element will have a hole/inner ring completely inside the ELEM1 and ELEM2 respectively.
    I just wanted to remove the two holes/inner rings from each ELEMs.
    Initially, I have planned to collect all individual rings which are not inside the element using SDO_UTIL.EXTRACT and collecting them into a collection and subsequently appending all of them to the first element in the collection to prepare a new geometry.
    FOR rec in c1
    LOOP
    new_g := SDO_UTIL.APPEND(new_g, rec.GEOM);
    END LOOP;
    I feel, this a crude way of solving the problem. I doubt that there should be an existing SDO packages to remove the inner/required rings/elements.
    Can anyone please help me to solve this problem and let me know if further information is required.
    Regards,
    Kumar

    Hi Paul,
    Thanks for the given code. I could not adopt the assumptions and logic in my case. But, here is my approach and suggest me if I am wrong anywhere.
    FUNCTION remove_holes(p_geom_in IN mdsys.sdo_geometry) RETURN mdsys.sdo_geometry IS new_geom mdsys.sdo_geometry;
    temp mdsys.sdo_geometry;
    numelem NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    numelem := sdo_util.getnumelem(p_geom_in);
    FOR idx IN 1 .. numelem
    LOOP
    temp:= sdo_util.EXTRACT(p_geom_in,   idx,   1);
                        IF IS_GEOM_INSIDE(temp, p_geom_in) = FALSE THEN
                        IF new_geom is null THEN
                        new_geom := temp;
                        ELSE
                        new_geom := sdo_util.append(new_geom,   temp);
                        END IF;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    RETURN new_geom;
    END remove_holes;
    FUNCTION IS_GEOM_INSIDE(p_look IN mdsys.sdo_geometry, p_list IN mdsys.sdo_geometry) RETURN BOOLEAN IS
              corrunt mdsys.sdo_geometry;
              str_relationship varchar2(60);
              IsInside varchar2(60);
              IsCoveredBy varchar2(60);
              BEGIN
              FOR i IN 1 .. sdo_util.getnumelem(p_list)
    LOOP
                        corrunt:=sdo_util.EXTRACT(p_list, i,1);
    str_relationship := SDO_GEOM.RELATE(p_look,'DETERMINE',corrunt,0.5);
                        IF str_relationship = 'EQUAL' THEN
                        NULL;
                        END IF;
                        IsInside:=SDO_GEOM.RELATE(p_look,'INSIDE',corrunt,0.5);
                        IsCoveredBy:=SDO_GEOM.RELATE(p_look,'COVEREDBY',corrunt,0.5);
                        IF  (IsInside='INSIDE') OR (IsCoveredBy='COVEREDBY ') THEN
    RETURN TRUE;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
                   RETURN FALSE;
              END IS_GEOM_INSIDE;
    END pseudo_fg;
    +/+
    With the above logic and implementation, I could solve the classic Island issue and able remove a normal hole from a geometry as well.
    I found another interesting case where I have a Geometry Collection which is having two poligon Geometries. You may imagine two identical square geoms where the upper left quarter portion of the second square is placed at lower right quarter portion of the first square geometry.
    If I execute sdo_util.getnumelem(GEOM), it is returning '1' instead of returning '2' as mentioned below.
    select sdo_util.getnumelem(MT.geometry) from MY_TABLE MT where MT_ID=18;
    SDO_UTIL.GETNUMELEM(MT.GEOMETRY)
    1
    1 rows selected
    Im I expecting wrong results? How can I solve this issue?
    My apologies, if I am posting unnecessary/unrealistic doubts here.
    Regards,
    Kumar

    Amy ~ In addition to the iPad wallpaper dimensions given at the link above, here are the optimal iPhone wallpaper dimensions:
    "The iPad crops are at a resolution of 2524x2524px and the iPhone versions are 744x1392px. These were chosen based upon standards Apple has in place with their own built in wallpaper imagery. After a thorough amount of testing these resolutions worked the best and provided me with the most accurate results in my cropping choices." (Source)

  • Bluetooth Audio Blasts White Noise

    I have a Macbook Pro and when I listen to music via bluetooth (headphones, speakers, etc.) it eventually glitches and then blasts white noise. Anyone know what the problem is?
    By the way, I don't experience this problem when using the same bluetooth devices with my iPhone.

    the problem is that 10.10.2 is a piece of junk. look through the discussions, and there are already a number of them mentioning this. in all the posts i've read, this started with that update. amazing that apple can cause a problem that can both damage hearing and equipment, and after a month still nothing. i've had it happen about 5 times today. add to that, my bluetooth keyboard has disconnected and reconnected 30 times, often consecutively.
    the only fix is disconnect the device, and reconnect. or, if you just mute audio and wait a number of minutes it is usually gone after un-muting. 10.10.2 is a failure. fingers crossed 10.10.3 fixes it. hope my speakers don't blowout in the meantime.

    New IPhone and Ipad air are ringing at the same time, from incoming landline/mobile phones. Help please...

    That's a new feature introduced in iOS 8 called Handoff. You can start something on your iPhone and finish it on your iPad or Mac. You can make the iPad stop ringing by going to Settings>FaceTime on the iPhone and toggling off iPhone Mobile Calls. You can do it on the iPad also.

  • How can I stop the ringer from  showing up on the screen?

    How can I stop the ringer from  showing up on the screen?

    Use VMware Fusion? But seriously, Fusion does what you want. It just puts a mini VM control menu at the top when running full screen (and that's configurable, too), so the main menu bar doesn't appear at all. Which means that it's up to Parallels to handle this. Are you running Parallels 7, which is designed for Lion? If you are and Parallels still doesn't offer something similar, you need to contact Parallels.

    Hi

    How to find Business Area Name from Report Name?

    Hi,
    There is no relationship between reports and business areas. Each report can be built from many folders. Each folder can be in many business areas.
    However you can try the following SQL which may give you the result you want for an v5 EUL. You will have to modify for Discoverer 4 EUL:
    select distinct doc_name, obj.obj_name folder_name, bas.ba_name
    from eul_us.eul5_documents doc
    , eul_us.eul5_elem_xrefs xref
