My iBook G4 suddenly went black and won't restart.

This afternoon my Mac iBook G4 was running on house power (plugged into outlet) and it suddenly went blank.  It won't restart.  Any suggestions what I should check out before I spend good money on a repair shop?

I'm new to MACs, but might I suggest that you first check the power ar the outlet and then the power at the end of the power cord.
My old iBook gets only to the Apple stary-up screen.  If you can get that far, please try the suggestions I got through the forum from Old Comm Guy

It's stalling in the boot somewhere.
First thing to try is safe boot by holding down the shift key when you power up.  Safe boot
loads a minimal set of kernel extensions and also checks and attempts to correct problems
in the boot volume by running fsck which is a Unix function that checks directories.  This can
take a little while longer than a normal boot, so give the gear a chance to spin for a bit.
If you get to a safe boot, then it would be a good time to open Disk Utility in
the /Applications/Utilities folder and repair permissions on the boot volume.  Then command
a restart and see what happens.
If things are not yet working, either because Safe Boot didn't work or it worked and you can't
boot, then you should try a PRAM reset, by holding down the cmd-option-P-R keys at power
on until you hear the boot tone (chime) a second time, then see how boot goes.
Finally, you can start to troubleshoot a boot stall by booting into "verbose mode" by holding
down the cmd-V key combination at power up until you see a black Unix terminal display on
the screen, then watching to see where things hang up.  You may not know what they mean,
but there are folks on the discussions who can figure them out."

  • My iPhone screen went black and won't turn back on.

Yesterday, my iPhone 4S screen went black and won't turn back on. So I tried just letting charge but after an hour nothing happened, so then I switched out the chargers and made sure the outlet I was using worked. But it still was black. Then I did a little research and I tried to put it into DFU mode but my power button has been broken for a few months now, so that didn;t work either. Then I tried restoring it, but my computer didn't recognize it!!! So then over night I let it rest with no power source connected to it. This morning I plugged it back into a power source and it showed the charging icon. I'm pretty that means it's still running, but I'm not an expert. PLEASE HELP!

If you have got a different USB Sync cable try to charge your iPhone with that as there are possibilities that your current USB cable or Power Adapter is not Charging your iPhone. If it still doesn't work make an appointment to Nearest Apple Genius Bar

This exact same thing happened to me too yesterday and trying what you said has just fixed it right now! Lucky I happened to come across this discussion while looking for a solution and has saved me a trip to Genius Bar tonight.
Thanks very much for the solution!
This problem has never happened before and I have just updated to iOS 7.0.3 about 2 weeks ago, so wondering if it may be an iOS 7 issue...

  • What do I do if my iPhone 3GS just went black and won't turn back on or anything?

it has the latest update and everything.
i was snapchatting my friends, hit the home button and the whole phone went black and won't turn back on

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, usually takes about 10 seconds. If still nothing, connect to Wall Charger and Reset, this can sometimes take about 20 seconds while on charger.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • IPad suddenly went black and want turn off or on

New iPad Air 2 screen suddenly went blank and want respond or turn on or off. Hook up to Mac and iTunes recognises its there etc.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Try resetting your device: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). If the Apple appears, the reset is in progress, and the Slide to Unlock screen will display shortly.
Be sure that your device is charged. If you are not sure, then hook it up to a charger and wait 5 minutes before resetting.

  • HT1766 my iphone just went black and won't turn on what can I do?

Help! My iphone 3gs was working just fine. My granddaughter picked it up and jerked it out of the charger and it went black. I have tried pushing the home & power button together, going to itunes to restore and nothing helps. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks Terri

Did you try any of the reset steps, etc. outlined in some of these forums or pretty much do nothing until it started working again? Also, do you have an iPhone 4 as Sam The AMAZING does?
(I'm desperately grasping straws to figure out whether or not I've exasperated all options and my iPhone is lost forever...)
    Thanks, L

  • Screen went black and won't wake up

While using my Powerbook G4, the screen went black. I can see that the power's still on- the light on the screen release button is illuminated. But I have no display and cannot wake it up from sleep. Please help!

Try press+hold the power button and see if it shuts completely off, then try booting normally. If that doesn't work, you may have to remove all power (adapter+battery) to kill it, then try restarting normally.

  • My iphone 4 screen went black and won't turn on

My iphone 4 today mysteriously won't turn on, I tried charging it and it won't even charge. I was using it a few hours before hand it was fine with 100% battery and I haven't put it in any water so I am confused as to why this has happened. Can someone please tell me what to do and why has this happened?

I had the same for the second time today... no way to turn it on !! it was 63% loaded and on my desktop without activity (on the iphone ;- ).
tha only way to turn it on is to unscrew the two scren at the bottom, remove the back cover then unscrew a screw on the bottom left, close to the black battery, then you unplug the plug, wait a few second, plug it agin and screw.
Then turn it on ! it works twice ... then your iphone will first set as 1st of january ... but later recover everything date, time ... then i had a prompt with "imap.gmail.com" not recognised (written in french, i am french !), then i had a "dataaccessd" screen asking to accept the Equifax Secure Certificate Authority as non thrusted ... don't know what it is but asnwer YES and ACCEPT then iphone is fully operational ... until next crash !

  • My macbook pro screen went black and won't display back to the normal screen. When I turn it on I can hear the computer starting up and the keyboard light turn on but the screen stays black. What can I do? Help please!

Please help! I can't get my screen to turn back on. It just stays black when I turn it on. Is there anything I can do to reboot it or am I just out of luck
    Thanks!

Did you buy the Applecare extended warranty? If not then you will need to pay for whatever repairs need to be done.
You will need to take the system to an Apple store Genius Bar for a check up.

  • While using my ipod it suddenly went black and now wont answer any of the buttons or be recognized on my computer. what happened?

problem solved. press the home button and the off button together for 10 seconds and it will reboot the system
