Agree with Esquared - uninstall these:

And max out your RAM - you only have 2; no wonder everything takes that long. Here are the specs for your model:

And here is one of the two most recommended RAM vendors in the US (they also have how-to video instructions on their site):

Another good source is Crucial; both offer lifetime warranties.

  • My iMac G5 has suddenly started to run slowly and I don't know how to fix it. I've run utilities which says it's working fine.

My iMac G5 has suddenly started running very slow. I've already gone through all the tricks I can think of, including reinstalling Snow Leopard and running a hardware test, which tells me my computer is OK, which it most definitely is not. Every little thing I try to do causes the beach ball to spend for 30 to 60 seconds. I'm typing this on my older computer, which is running fine. It would take me an hour to do this on the iMac that is affected.

First, you do not have an iMac G5 - they can't run Snow Leopard.
Have you checked the available disc space? For smooth running you need at least 5GB and preferably nearer 20GB free space.
Look at the bottom of any Finder window and see what it says is available.

  • Have downloaded christmas screensaver but I don't know how to get it to work!  Any help would be appreciated, I have an IMac desktop and not so computer smart  Thanks

Hi Jerry, do you have a link to that one?
Can you paste the exact error in a reply?
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • Help! Working on a book to be printed in two days. Accidentally saved it as .indb when I need it to be .indd. Now I don't know how to open/view it. What can I do and how can I convert it to .indd?

I've tried looking up ways to open the file because this needs to be done ASAP. Making a copy of the file and opening it seems to be working for others but there is no results for me.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to save a .indd document file as a .indb book file (which is really a collection of pointers to .indd files), so you haven't actually destroyed the file. Either it is lurking someplace undamaged, or you accidentally saved it as a Document, but used the wrong extension, and changing the extension from .indb back to .indd is all it will take to repair. If that doesn't work, it isn't a document with the wrong extension and you need to do a file search for the real one.

  • My iMac hard drive is full, and I don't know how to fix it.

My iMac hard drive is full.  Approximately 495GB of "Other" is crushing it.  I saw some threads online refer to this issue ... something to do with ASL files.  Can anyone help?

First try to download OmniDiskSweeper then launch that to sweep the drive this will give you information on the size of your files and folders.  This will give you a starting point as to what to do with your large files you can move them to an external hard drive or delete them within the program.  Note: Be careful of the items you delete.

I have an iCloud account but I can figure out how to get to it from Finder

If you're trying to set up iCloud, go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign in with your iCloud credentials, then check the data you want to sync to your Mac.  See http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.

  • Equium L20-198 loses time - about 7 minutes each day

The clock in my L20-198 system tray is losing about 7 minutes each day.
I can update manually through the "Adjust Date/Time" right click function but have to remember to do this every time I boot up and, as I often forget I rapidly become 20-30 minutes out of synch.
Any ideas what is wrong and how to correct it?
Do I need new CMOS battery?
If so, how do I access it?

    Hi
    >Do I need new CMOS battery?
    Maybe
But firstly it would be interesting to know if the same time/date appears in BIOS.
According to your message you change the time always in Windows OS.
Please check BIOS, correct the time and save the BIOS changes.
May I ask you when did you notice this issue?
Possibly it happens due to the older CMOS battery
I would also try to recharge the CMOS battery.
Connect the L20 to AC adaptor a leave it for about 18-20 hours.
During this time the main battery will be charged and then the CMOS battery.

Same here on an older iMac since Lion. Thanks for the uncheck wake for network access tip though, it doesn't do it either in that case, I will leave it that way.

Although you say you have let the battery drain, was it for long enough? Since nothing else that you've tried so far has worked, I suggest that you leave the iPod unplugged for at least four days, preferably a week. That way, if something is stopping the iPod from turning the screen on, then whatever it is will drain the battrey. However, since the screen isn't on, that may take longer than if the screen was on.
Then, after that time, plug the iPod into a power source and leave it alone for at least thirty minutes. Only after thirty minutes will it show any signs of life, but you should leave it until it is fully charged before trying to use it.
If you get to this stage, the fact that the battery has drained will cause the iPod to reset when it springs back to life.
Let us know how you get on.

The app (Excel) is in the dock. When I left click on it there is no check next to open at login.
Lets go back to the beginning when I installed ms office both word and excel were in the dock. then one day excel dissapeared. I put it back in the dock and that is when it started opening during login. There is only one X showing in the dock.
    Maybe I have little gremlins.

  • I've an iMac with OS X 10.4.11. Sudden email problem: every received email has, after the header, 1 - 2 pages of technical data (e.g., Dkim-Signature, Domainkey-Signature, etc.) I don't know why this now happening, and I don't know how to get rid of it.

I have an iMac using OS X 10.4.11. Beginning several days ago, all incoming emails have, after the usual email header and before the message appears, one to two pages of technical data (e.g., Dkim-Signature, Domainkey-Signature, Content-Transfer-Encoding, etc.). This is similar and more complex that the info one receives when an undeliverable email bounces back. I don't know where this stuff comes from, or how it came, and I don't know how to get rid of it. Any ideas? I'm something of a newbie to computers (um, what's a Tag?).

That just sounds like the mail headers. Most people don't know (or care) about them so they're usually hidden.
Check Mail -> Preferences -> Viewing -> Show header detail
I'm guessing it's set to 'All'. Switch it to 'Default' or None as you prefer.
