I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.

  • Contacts on iPhone and iPad not connecting to iCloud

Just set up iCloud today to sync Contacts between MacBook, iPhone, and iPad.  Initial setup worked ok.  Now, MacBooks is working OK, but iPhone and iPad cannot connect to server.  Open Contacts app and icon on status bar at top of screen just spins (for hours).  Have tried to disable Contacts sync on iPhone, but but same behavior.  Have tried to delete iCloud account on iPad...same.  Have rebooted both devices...same.  Any suggestions?

iCloud won't sync Gmail contacts, it will only sync iCloud contacts.  If he wants to use Gmail for contacts, he should add his Gmail account to his Mac too.  If all of the contacts on his phone are not appearing on his Mac after doing this, then some of them must not belong to the Gmail account and would need to be added to his Gmail contacts.
If he wants to use iCloud to sync his Gmail contacts instead, he can copy all of his contacts to iCloud as follows:
Go to Settings>iCloud on the phone, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup.  (If you have more than 500 contacts to transfer you will need the “Pro” version.)  Use the app to back up the remaining contacts on your phone (from Gmail and any other non-iCloud accounts) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars…tap Gmail and any other non-iCloud accounts and turn off contacts syncing with these accounts (otherwise you will see duplicate contacts on your device).
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the other accounts back to your device, and to iCloud.

  • Mountain Lion Messages and other iPhone and iPads not connecting

Just downloaded Mountain Lion and have been trying to connect with the family on their iPhones and iPads. On the messaging page, it shows that they are offline, but when I check their phones, it looks like everything is ok.
Also tried to connect via iChat and it would start the process and ring and pop up but when you tried to connect, it would totally disconnect.
I dont know why their devices are showing off line and not receiving messages notes that I am sending

  • Upgraded to iOS7 but cant accept the terms and conditions as it is 'unable to connect to server' on both my iPhone and iPad, whilst my collegues all could accept them...RESET did NOT work. Any alternative thoughts?

I got it to work by enabling cookies in safari settings and turning off private browsing. Cookies are probably the key thing here. Accept button will appear at bottom right of first screen of agreement.

  • My macbook pro can see my home wi-fi network but cannot connect to it.  My iphone and ipad are connected to my home wi-fi so the problem is not the modem.

Wow, I tried to submit this as a problem and the computer lost the wifi connection again, so i lost the whole explanation i typed up.
I've turned off computer and modem multiple times.
When I tried to run the network diagnostic, the macbook pro gave me a "perhaps you are out of range error".  I am sitting next to the modem.
My iphone and ipad are wonderfully connected to the home wifi network, so it cannot be the modem/router, correct?
If I am on the same floor as the router/modem then the macbook pro can see my home network but after tyoing in my password and trying to connect i get a "timed out" message.
If I move down one floor, then the macbook can see and connect to the wifi.  I only have one modem on one floor.
Is there some sort of diagnostic I can run to see why this particular device (macbook pro) is behaving ths way?  It just seems weird because the computer could connect to the wifi network yesterday while i was sitting next to the router.

    SOLUTION!
I've been suffering from this problem for a few months.  I tried everything suggested by everyone, and then, today, I had a mad idea.
I used to work in a room in the house that's about 12 metres away from the router. It's on the next storey up and horizontally about 8 metres away.  The problem started when I began to work in the same room as the router.
Today I became so frustrated that for some reason I walked into a room about 8 metres away on the same level - Guess what?  I connected with no problem at all. Feeling full of joy I walked back to the room where the router is located - Dropped internet connection within a few minutes!  Walked back to the the room that's 8 metres away and, hey presto! I have a connection. I now realise that the problem was that I moved too close to the router.
I can think of no logical explanation for my experience, but empirically it seems to work.  Does anyone have the faintest idea of why this should be the case?  In the absence of an answer I think I may have to start believing in fairies at the bottom of the garden - I'm just off to set a meal for them.
By the way, I don't know if it has any significance, but the router is a BT Infinity router that has replaced the incredibly unreliable Virgin Media cable connection

  • My photos stopped transferring to my PC from my Iphone and Ipad

I went on Itunes and removed my Iphone from the list of devices on Itunes in the Cloud. Now I cant figure out how to add it back.
I'm trying to get my photos to transfer to my PC from my Iphone and Ipad, but they suddenly stopped transferring.

For the benefit of the other 3 people with this issue I've found my own answer.
I have read that both devices need to have at least 20% charge and both need to be connected to wifi.
Somehow it is only after retreading this several times over the course of a week that I actually check that "both" devices
are in fact on wifi. The iPhone was not on wifi but still connected to 3G. Simple as that. It's all working again.

  • IPhone and iPad cannot connect to iMac

I'm having trouble connecting my mobile devices to my iMac using Edge Inspect. Edge Inspect is running on my machine and in the browser (the icon is illuminated in the Chrome taskbar), but when I try and connect my iOS devices via the Edge Inspect app on each one, they cannot see my iMac and any attempts to use 'Manual Connect' (with any of the 3 IP addresses shown in the Chrome plugin's menu box) result in an error message:
    "Connection unsuccessful, please try again."
I've got the latest versions of iOs and the Edge Inspect apps running on my iPhone and iPad, OS X 10.8.3, Chrome 26.0.1410.65 with the Edge Inspect plugin and the latest version of the Edge Inspect app running on my iMac, and have verified that port 7682 is open on my iMac. Edge Inspect is shown as allowing incoming connections via my firewall. I've tried restarting the Mac, to no avail.
TL;DNR: I've tried everything that I can find online to get the application to work, but my devices can't 'see' my iMac. Can anyone help?
(If it matters, I'm running a BT Home Hub 3.0 for my home network.)

Fixed the problem - all I needed to do was power cycle my router. Schoolboy error!

  • I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. It spent time underwater, saltwater. I let it dry for a week, turned it on, the apple symbol came on, then it died. I need to retrieve my photos off it. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

You're talking about the logic board. The two most likely things to get toasted, with water damage, are the battery(it shorts out), & the logic board. The worst water damage would be salt water. I'm afraid your logic board is toast.

  • Iphone and Ipad loosing connection

Just switched from a Linksys router to a Airport Extreme and my iphone and ipad seem to have alot more problems staying connected to the Airport than they ever had with the Linksys. Before I never had it loose the network but it happens constantly now. Seems to be an issue much more when not in the same room but farther away in the house, but it does not seem to auto join back I have to manually log back in.
Is the Airport Extreme more sensitive to placement in the house? The Imac or other devices that are stationary and located nearby the extreme don't have this issue. But one of the reasons I went to the extreme was the supposed stronger signal strength but that seems to be the opposite of what I am experiencing.

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but I am having problems connecting my iPhone 4 to my Time Capsule. Google "iphone time capsule custer," and look for the thread in the iPhone discussion area.
    Good luck!

  • I had no idea my iPhone and iPad were connected and I deleted "notes" I had on phone they also were removed from iPad. Can these notes be retrieved? After this mess I will go downtown to apple store and learn how to use these devices.

I had no idea my iPhone and iPad were so connected. I deleted notes from iPhone as I had them on iPad.  Well was I surprised to see they were gone from iPad also. Can these be retrieved?

Because it says it's incompatible when it can't be, I got hope. I get error messages all the time with my iPod and iPhone that it cannot sync and that 'this device is not capapble of connecting to iTunes' stuff. I literally forget that happened, plug it in again and it works, I later realize that iTunes made a mistake, they do that.

  • IPhone and iPad cannot connect via Remote to iTunes

I updated iTunes yesterday and today none of our iPhones or iPads can see the itunes library via Remote. I've gone through the troubleshooting. The best result I got was to get the icon to reappear on remote's devices list. But it won't connect when I select it. Eventually it stops looking and I get this message "Remote can't connect to your iTunes library. Check your network settings and try again." I've checked all the settings on all the devices. I've logged out and back in. I turned the router off and back on. I've turned home sharing off and back on. Network seems to be working fine for everything else. I have not checked if my Apple TV will work or not.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks

Fixed the problem - all I needed to do was power cycle my router. Schoolboy error!

  • Extreme on N yet iphone and touch still connecting!?!?!

I have an Extreme N that is set to 2.4 GHz N and extended with an Express N. Question is, how is it possible that my iphone 3G and touch are still connecting to WiFi? Should they not even see my N network since the are both G?

I can only assume there's a problem with the Airport as the iPhone has a Marvell 88W8686 WiFi chip in it that definitely only supports 802.11 a/b/g.
I suppose the Airport is either incorrectly displaying the mode that's turned on or it's actually in N mode and it switches (due to a hidden feature or bug) to 802.11g when the iPhone tries to connect.
