My macbook is all up to date with snow leopard but I still can't download mountain lion
I just updated my system to be able to download mountain lion and now its telling me it's not compatible with my computer. Please help???
The model 4,1 Early 2008 MacBook will not be able to run Mountain Lion, but it can run 10.7 Lion. Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. The price is still $29.
It's the video card. Yours has the 144mb Intel GMA X3100 with non-upgradeable 32bit drivers. The model 5,1 Late 2008 and newer have at least the 256mb NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 64bit drivers. Mountain Lion requires 64bit native drivers. Mountain Lion no longer supports Intel's GMA 950 or GMA X3100 graphics processors.

Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard, Win 7 & Ubuntu, can't upgrade to Lion
I have new 13" macbook pro with Snow Leopard on it. With a combination of boot camp and some disc partitioning trickery, I got windows 7 and ubuntu on it as well. Furthermore I also have a shared data (fat32) partition on the machine (so 4 main partitions - win,mac,linux,shared - plus swap partition, efi, etc).
I just download Lion and I'm trying to start the installer, but when it asks me which partition I want to install it on, all options are greyed out and the Macintosh HD partition says somethign to the effect of "this disc cannot be used to start the computer". Is there any way for me to get lion installed without having to erase all my extra partitions and start this whole agonizing process over again?You may be out of luck without formatting your HDD. (At least Recovery HD should be created. In our testing, it appears this special partition is created only when you install Lion onto an internal drive formatted with a GUID partition scheme. In addition, that internal drive must initially have only a single partition; or be a multi-partition drive that was partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant and not further modified afterwards. So not everyone will get this useful feature. Apple has confirmed some of these restrictions.)

Snow Leopard up to date, but still can't download Mountain Lion
I'm trying to update to Mountain Lion, currently running 10.6.8 as is required but the app store still says my machine is incompatible. I've run software update just to be sure, and I am up to date.

I have a MacBook pro version 10.6.7 with snow leopard. After an scheduled software upgrade I could not open Quicken (It said it could not open the files). Now I can only open it if I have my external drive on. Can you help?
All the information that I had input on Quicken is gone. I have to have the external hard drive that I use to back up to be able to use quicken now. It is as if it was erased from the laptop hardriveTry repairing permissions. My favorite way is with a utility called AppleJack. Info and download here. It's free. It only works when you boot in Single User Mode. When restarting or booting, hold down the Command key and S keys.
You will get a very different startup screen that looks like the Terminal app has hijacked the screen. Just let the lines of text scroll by. When that happens you will get a text entry prompt. Type in "AppleJack" without the quotation marks.
A DOS looking menu will appear. Choose 1 or d to run Disk Repair. If you get a message that Disk Repair found and corrected errors, run it again. Repeat until you get the "your disk appears to be ok" message. This rarely happens with my experience, though. This does the same thing as as booting from an external drive and running Disk Utility's repair. Only, no external drive is required!
Next, choose 2 or p to repair disk permissions. This will take a little while. AppleJack warns that it will take up to an half hour to run repair permissions. It'n never taken more than about ten minutes for my MacBook Pro.
As permissions are repaired, you will see each repair scroll on the screen. When done, the menu returns, choose q to quit. Then at the prompt, enter "exit" without the quotes. Your MacBook Pro should restart into Mac OS normally after this.

I have a Macbook pro 2009 with Snow Leopard. Which system can I install without running into complicated problems which I will not be able to solve by myself- a person with limited problem solving abilities. (Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite?)
It will make it easier to help you w/ your problem to know the size and RAM installed.

What OS will your Garmin work with? Funny there was someone else that did that and upgraded to Yosemite and regretted it.
I'd say Lion if your Garmin is compatible.

Big Fish Games stop working in Mavericks. What do I do? I have re-installed them and the manager app, and nothing. I have not gotten an answer from Big Fish tech staff. Thought the problem might be with Maverick. all the games worked with Snow Leopard
Any body have this kind of problem. What was done to correct it. . .I can't wait to get a new phone as well. LG Revolution owners should be comped for this phone if Verizon intends to keep them as customers.

I just upgraded my 2008 macbook pro to OS X Maverick from Snow Leopard but my computer is running a bit buggy and slow. How do I downgrade back down to snow leopard?
You would reinstall 10.6 using your installation DVD.
Out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have? Recent versions of OS X really shine with 4GB or more.

Open General preferences in System Preferences. You can set the desired scrollbar behavior there.

I have a canon multifunction printer that used to work with snow leopard but since I updated to mountain lion it stoped working. How do I make it work again?
This problem is not unheard of when upgrading from Snow Leopard. It is usually solved by completely deleting the existing printer in System Preferences > Print & Scan, and adding it again.

I'm unable to download the German dictionary. I tried to do it with a 3g connection, but I failed because of that. A message said that I had to have a wi-fi connection to contine the download. Now I have a wi-fi connection, but I still can't download it. Could you give me advice please?
I did activate the German keyboard, and I entered in the application "notes",in which I typed a german word with the german keyboard... But I can't get "define". It only appears to me when I select a word from an ebook, but when I ask for the definition of a German word there, it simply says "no definition found", as if the German dictionary didn't exist. I know that it exists... When I tried for the first time to get a definition for a German word, it appeared a writing which asked me if I wanted to download the German dictionary. I selected "yes", but I was connected to a 3g connection at the moment, so the ipad didn't download the dictionary, but another writing told me that the download would have continued when I was connected to a wi-fi. It didn't. And now I don't know how to continue the download. I've installed the French dictionary and the English one, but for the German one that's what happened. Maybe the ipads work differently in each country?

I have a MacBook White, early 2009 model, just downloaded/installed OS X Lion. Everything worked well with Snow Leopard - Mathematica, pogo.com games. Now, with Lion, I am getting a box that states I need J/Link, and/or java runtime. Software update feature states all software is up to date. Help.

The coment "few outdated programs" Ive seen alot its not just a few its a lot and since games are not Apple's strong point I would think they would want to keep as many as they could...
An example of the rants you will see from a lot here. Don't be put off as these problems are generally user specific, and these same old comments come out after the release of every OSX I can remember. When Lion is upgraded to the next OSX you can gaurentee these forums will be full of people screaming about how great Lion was. Happened with Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.
So come to think of it you may be better off Googling sites that give you unbiased views on Lion, rather than expect any positive comments here. For every one complaint there are probably 100,000 people with no issues.

Can't download Mountain Lion / iPhone 5 won't sync with iCal & Contacts on iMac
Have a 2007 iMac. Running Snow Leopard. Contacts and iCal aren't syncing to iPhone 5. Did a little research and decided maybe it was because I'm not upgraded to Mountain Lion. Tried to download Mountain Lion and it says it cannot because it requires 2GB of memory. Help. What do I do now?
A 2007 iMac, according to http://www.everymac.com can go up to 6 GB ram. you have to check and see if yours is on the compatible list at http://www.apple.com/osx/specs and if it is not, you can still go to Lion by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE and purchaing a download code to use to download 10.7.5 from the Mac App Store. Lion is compatible with iCloud, also.
You still need at least 2 GB ram, 4 GB is much better. Go to OWC, or Crucial to see about more ram. -
