My songs are distorted!

I just bought a refurbished iPod mini and I used iTunes to put the songs from my music library onto the iPod. I'm having 2 problems:
1) All of the songs that I have on my computer that are from my personal CD collection do not transfer onto the iPod... only songs I have downloaded from the internet transfer over.
2) The songs that DO transfer onto my iPod are distorted. At times the songs sound normal (like this morning), but then it acts up again. If I could describe what it sounds like, I would say its like they're in the recording studio & they haven't put all the elements of the song together yet =/ Its all digitalized or something... weird!
I don't want to have to return this thing, but if I can't get this figured out today I'm afraid thats what I'm going to have to do. Help!

On the one hand, you may have to de-authorize/authorize your iPod (since it was obviously used).
On the other hand, it sounds like you have the "defective headphone jack" problem which means you're out-of-luck.

  • Some songs are distorted after transferring to iPod....

I have a unique problem, some songs are distorted and occasionally sound like they are skipping when I transfer them to the iPod, yet if I play the files on my computer in iTunes, they play fine. Any suggestions as to what might cause this?

OK, so I went back and listened again to the tracks in iTunes, and it turns out that for some reason even though I thought I checked the "use error correction" box on my home computer's iTunes, error correction wasn't turned on after all. I noticed because I did hear the distortion on the playback of one song when played from iTunes. I am in the process of re-importing a couple of cd's with error correction turned on, and I am pretty sure this is the problem. I re-imported the one song I noticed it on originally and it got rid of it. I listened to one of the cd's back this morning in iTunes and didn't notice the distortion, but apparently it was there and I just missed it. So, chalk this one up to user error/self pwnt, haha!

  • When burning cd the last few songs are distorted; get error message

When I burn cd in from a playlist the last few songs are distorted.. I receive an error message that states: cd burn was not succesful due to a "meduim write error".... ???

    many thanks.
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Some Songs are distorted

I have a UK model Ipod which when listening to Leona Lewis Bleeding Love or Westlife Home is very distorted when the base starts...about 20 secs in on the Westlife song. I have already replaced the unit once but the second one is the same. On a US touch the sound is crystal clear no distortion even at louder volume... The EQ setting is 'Rock' Anyone got any ideas? Can't be the European Volume Cap can it?

The EQ is causing the problem. "Rock" has lots of bass attenuation, and that's causing the audio in the iPod to clip. Try reducing the song volume (Get Info -> Settings) and see if the problem stays.
    Hope this helps.

  • Updates to itunes 10.6.1.7 and quicktime 7.7.1 all the levels in any sound I play on my pc are distorted.

Since updating to itunes 10.6.1.7 and quicktime 7.7.1 (updated both at the same time so not sure which is causing the issue) all the levels in any sound I play on my pc are distorted. The main track in the sound file will be muffled or really soft such as the main vocals in a song. The secondary tracks (harmonies instrumentals etc) are really loud. I thought it was just iTunes, however EVERYTHING has been affected since this update. Windows media player and games, all with the same issue.
Any one experienced this and have any feeback on how to fix it?

problem solved after updating itunes to 10.6.3

  • Most of my songs are gone and I want them back

I recently was asked by iTunes if I wanted my songs stored in the cloud or on my computer.  Not thinking I said the cloud.  Most of my songs are not available because they have an "error".  I want my library of songs back.

According to other forums this is simply caused because of a backup problem (this can be any number of things). You can either restore to the backup yourself (if the backup is not corrupted and still available) sync everything back on manually
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
    Thanks

  • Some of my songs are listed twice on my iPod itself.  However, when I plug the iPod into my computer, the songs don't show up twice in iTunes when I click on device/music. How do I get rid of the duplicate songs on my iPod?

Some of my songs are listed twice on my iPod itself.  However, when I plug the iPod into my computer, the songs don't show up twice in iTunes when I click on device/music. How do I get rid of the duplicate songs on my iPod?

that is odd! that should not be happening.
Are you syncing your songs right off of itunes itself? because it should be syncing over to the ipod however it is listed in itunes.

  • Transferred itunes library from Windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. plugged in 3rd gen Ipod. Ipod icon appears along with playlists, music etc. Songs are grayed out and won't play. Please help!

I recently transferred itunes library from windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. The transfer was successful, however when I plug my 3rd gen Ipod Nano into the new PC, the Ipod icon appears along with the music, playlists, etc. The songs are shown but are 'grayed out' and wont play or sync. The 'Devices & Printers' window in new PC shows icon for Ipod driver & is OK. The icon for the Ipod appears but depicts a delta shaped warning icon that states that the Ipod is'not operating properly'. Tried troubleshooting. The troubleshooting message states the the Ipod is 'disconnecting'. Can you help me with this problem?

Then, I dropped the entire itunes file from the old PC (XP) into an empty external drive.
That "itunes file from the old PC"?  Is that the iTunes folder, from the old PC, that was in the user home folder's Music folder?
All of the library, playlists, etc. from the ipod as they always have been are shown, by they are 'grayed out' and will not open or play.
That's on the iPod, correct?  Are all of your old playlists in iTunes, from the old PC, still there in iTunes on the new PC?  Are the songs in iTunes still playable?
This document provides the steps to transfer a complete iTunes library between two computers.  See the section called External drive.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer - Apple Support
There are many steps, but this is a summary.  (1) On the old PC, consolidate all of your iTunes data into the iTunes folder.  (2) Copy this iTunes folder to the external drive.  (3) On the new PC (that has iTunes installed but NOT running), replace its existing iTunes folder with the one from the old PC (on the external drive).  When you run iTunes, it uses the iTunes folder from the old PC, and it should look like iTunes on the old PC (with all the playlists, ratings, play count, etc.), and your iPod will see the iTunes library as the same iTunes library (because it is the same library).
If you did something different, and the old PC is still accessible, you may want to try it using the method from the linked document.

  • Not all songs are getting synced into my iPhone

Why is this? I have no clue. Only ~200 of my ~500 songs are getting uploaded.
Also, what's the best way to store songs in my computer, such that it will not get duplicated on my iTunes and/or iPhone?
Currently, I store the song as "Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven" on my computer.

Are you manually managing music and videos, or syncing?
If syncing, do you have all songs and playlists or selected playlists selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences?
Under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences, do you have Sync only checked songs and videos selected?
If so, are all songs selected or checked in your iTunes music library?
Also, what's the best way to store songs in my computer, such that it will not get duplicated on my iTunes and/or iPhone?
When importing songs from another source besides the iTunes Store or when imported from a music CD, there is an iTunes option to copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library, which is available at iTunes preferences under the Advanced tab below General.

  • When I create a playlist and sync it to my iPhone not all of the playlist transfers over.  All of the songs are there and are playable they just do not show up on the playlist.

When I create a playlist and sync it to my iPhone not all of the songs on the playlist transfer over.  All of the songs are there and are playable they just do not show up on the playlist.  For example, in itunes on my computer a playlist has over 100 songs, but when I sync my phone, my iphone only shows 60 songs.  I can go into my phone and add the missing songs to the playlist, but the next time I sync my phone the songs are gone again.

Wondering if you haven't been bitten by the new "feature" of iOS 5, as was my son. turingtest2 explained it very well in reply to my own query about "missing" songs in playlists.

  • I have "Explicit" song tags in iTunes, but they (the tags, not the songs) are not showing up on my iPhone.

    Hi,
I recently found a way to add the "EXPLICIT" tag to songs in my iTunes Library (using Subler), and just presumed that the tags were not showing up in my iPhone Music because the phone simply did not have the function to display them.
However, after updating to iOS 7, and seeing every song I have ever purchased, I noticed that the iPhone can indeed show whether songs are explicit or not (by marking them with a letter 'E').
Therefore I am just wondering why I can see whether songs are explicit on my Mac, yet not on my iPhone. I have tried removing the songs from my iTunes Library, syncing to remove them from my phone, re-adding them to my Library, and then re-syncing to put them back onto my phone, and the explicit tag still does not show up.
Please can you help me resolve this.
    Thanks

If you are syncing your contacts from your PC with iCloud, they are not transferred to your phone using iTunes.  They are synced to your phone using iCloud, either over wifi or your cellular data network.
First go to icloud.com with your computer browser, sign into your account and open Contacts there to confirm that your contacts appear.  If they do, go to Settings>iCloud on your phone, sign into your account and turn Contact on.  Assuming your phone is either connected to wifi or your cellular data network, the contacts should then download from iCloud to your phone.

If you buy them as a Ringtone, then Itunes should automatically put them in Tones. It is a huge hassle and takes time most of us don't have to waste, when we purchased them as Tones and Apple told me they would automatically show up in Tones if purchased from Itunes Store. NOT!  And we shouldn't have to google to find the answer. They should make that clear on Itunes store.  Very disappoiinted in the Itunes upgrades that have caused so many problems.

  • I tried to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone and when I click on "on this phone" the songs are there, but they are greyed out and have a circle in front of them.  I can not click on those songs and when I eject the phone they are not on the phone.

I tried to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone and when I click on "on this phone" the songs are there, but they are greyed out and have a circle in front of them.  I can not click on those songs, delete or anything and when I eject the phone they are not on the phone.  I tried to re-add the songs and it says it can't add songs because they've already been added.  So HOW can I get the songs to actually ADD to my phone to where I can listen to them?  It's like they're stuck in Sync limbo or something!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.
