MySQL Extension Development

I am interested in developing a small extension for SQL Developer that would allow me to work with its table objects and queries.
Do any specific MySQL samples/examples exist that can help me get started?
regards
Simon

Brian,
How do you mean "work with its table objects and queries"? If you add the MySQL jdbc driver (jtds-1.2.jar) to Preferences/Database/Third Party JDBC Drivers, the add connection dialog will allow you to create a MySQL connection & the basic browse/query, etc. stuff should all work already.I mean this in the context of the Subject of the post. Again, I want to develop a simple extension for SQL Developer which would allow me to hook into the connection and process the geometry data type of any table or query. Not just XML and SQL but Java.
I have had a request from a MySQL/Oracle database user to provide some simple visualisation and processing tools for MySQL Spatial within our GeoRaptor extension. So I am looking for help on how to access the MySQL connection nodes and queries.
I follow Jeff Smith's blog to the Oracle Wiki. I have found, in the past, the information on the Oracle Wiki and the lack of Javadoc for the SQL Developer jar files to be a huge limiter to someone developing an extension for SQL Developer. The new Wiki material looks equally disappointing. For example, the section on How To Create a Java Defined Extension (last edited by Jeff on Mar 28, 2012) still talks about Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.1, and references Extending SQL Developer 1.2.1. But we are up to SQL Developer 3.1 and things have changed a bit since then. Can this be updated so that it is more pertinent to current versions and so more helpful to external, non-partner, open-source extension developers who don't have access to the Oracle developers as a real Partners (eg Microgen) probably have.
regards
Simon

  • [Solved] ampache - missing mysql extensions and Iconv support

I was about to install amache. I've installed it using yaourt -S ampache. Installation went fine. But when I go to IP/ampache I see 2 errors: Mysql for PHP [ ERROR ] This test checks to see if you have the mysql extensions loaded for PHP. These are required for Ampache to work.
and PHP ICONV Support [ ERROR ] This test checks to make sure you have Iconv support installed. Iconv support is required for Ampache
What am I missing here? I just can't find the packages that would cover those errors. Any ideas what do I have to install in order for this to work?

Maybe this would help someone to help me
I don't know how but I forgot to uncomment extension=iconv.so line in the php.ini file to get iconv support for ampache, so now I only have one error. And this is Mysql for PHP:    ERROR. Now this one I have no idea how to solve.

  • MySQL extensions with DW CS4

I am setting up DW to work with PHP, MySQL and Apache. All seems to be fine except that when I try to connect to the database with CS4, I get the message "Your PHP server doesn't have the MySQL module loaded or you can't use the mysql_(p)connect functions. Kevin Yank states in his book that you can't use the mysql and the mysqli extensions together and David Powers on page 590 of his book says to enable both extensions. Problem is when I enable both of them, Apache crashes. Since I can't enable the mysql extension in the php.ini file, I inherently can't use the mysql_pconnect function which is what is used in DW4. PHP/Apache and MySQL work fine if I enable the mysqli extension in php.ini. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
    I am using Apache/2.2.14 (Win32) and PHP/5.2.11

Without the benefit of seeing what Kevin says in his book, it's difficult to know exactly what he means. However, I suspect that what he's saying is that you can't mix mysql and mysqli code, which is perfectly correct. The extensions use completely different - and therefore incompatible - functions.
That doesn't mean you can't have both extensions installed on the same server. I have mysql, mysqli, and PDO-mysql all enabled on both my testing server and my dedicated remote server. As long as you don't mix them in the same script, they all live together in perfect harmony.
Since I can't enable the mysql extension in the php.ini file, I inherently can't use the mysql_pconnect function which is what is used in DW4.
Why can't you enable the mysql extension in php.ini?
Did you use the PHP Windows installer? One of its drawbacks is that it installs dynamic link libraries only for those extensions that you select during the installation process. As a result, you won't have php_mysql.dll in the PHP ext folder. Either reinstall or get hold of the zip version of PHP from the PHP downloads page. Copy php_mysql.dll into the ext folder, and you should be able to use the mysql extension.

  • Dreamweaver & MySQL Extension for PHP

    Hey guys,
As everybody knows, the mysql extension in PHP has been deprecated and it will soon be replaced by mysqli, so does anybody know where I can find an Adobe Extension I can use so I can start using mysqli with Dreamweaver instead of mysql?
By the way, I'm using CS5, CS5.5, so I don't have access to exchange since Adobe put it to work only with CS6.
    Thanks

Unfortunately there is no extention available at the moment which replaces the old/current msql server behaviours in DW for msqli. Whilst they are/were useful they are/were also were quite limiting.
After Adobe announced that they would be removing the server behaviors in the current version of DW CC and that php announced that it would no longer support the sql extention in it's next release personally I decided it was time to move on. The good news is using sqli to connect/query a database is really quite a simple proceedure. Just Google a few tutorials.
I understand the reasoning for wanting sqli automation BUT its not available at the moment so you have two choices, 1) continue to use the old mysql server behaviours or 2) learn the new sqli way. It wont take you long to get to grips with it. The server behaviours in DW only offered the basics so learning those basics using sqli isn't going to be too time consuming, plus you actually get more familar with the coding.

  • VTC - MySQL 5 Development Part 1 and Part 2 for 1Z0-871 and 1Z0-872

    is that
    http://www.vtc.com/products/MySQL-5-Development-Part1-tutorials.htm
    http://www.vtc.com/products/MySQL-5-Development-Part2-Tutorials.htm
a study guide (video training) for
1Z0-871 MySQL 5 Developer Certified Professional Exam, Part I
1Z0-872 MySQL 5 Developer Certified Professional Exam, Part II
on http://www.vtc.com/ no link to Oracle MySQL exams. Everywhere in forum discussions you read about a study guide from 2005. I ask if I can use VTC for preperation?

    >I ask if I can use VTC for preperation?
Certainly you *can* use it.  The material is not a brain dump or something that is illicit.  I assume the question you're really asking is whether the course is any good.  I have not viewed that particular VTC course but I have used some of their others.  I used one of their video courses for Linux+ when I was preparing for that exam. I do not believe it would have been sufficient in and of itself, but combined with a couple of books, it was certainly helpful.
Since VTC does not develop their materials but rather have it developed independently by contractors, I don't know how much of my statement you can apply to the MySQL course.  They were almost certainly developed by two different people.  My suggestion would be to use it as a source to prepare for the exam, but not as your only source.

  • SQL Developer SDK wiki(for extensions development) link broken

    Hi,
I would like to develop an extension for Oracle SQL Developer. I searched around the web for extension development API but couldn't find any working links.
    The link http://wiki.oracle.com/page/SQL+Dev+SDK+Getting+Started
in the forum sticky as well as
the main extensions development page http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/extensions-083825.html#create
    is broken.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Extension Development Esources?

I am new to Extension Development for the Adobe Dreamweaver cs4 and don't know where to start
and what tools i need to develop my own extension for Dreamweaver cs4 so please
any body knows the link pdf or any material tutorials which can help me .
    Thanks .

    Hi
Extension development has very little in the way of resources to help people, but the three things to start with are -
    Extending dreamweaver documentation - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Extending/index.html.
    Dreamweaver api documentation - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_API_Ref/index.html.
SDK - http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1009962, although this has not been updated for many years now, but a new version was promised a few years ago, (still no signs of it though).
The link for the pdf version of the documentation is at the top of the pages.
As for tools and other references, nothing is required but if you can get hold of a copy I would recommend -http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dreamweaver-Extensions-Voices-New-Riders/dp/0735711828/ref=sr_1_16 ?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1271506835&sr=1-16 .
This is for mx, and is basic but is the only 'help' book I know of that is worth having, (you may also wish to try and get hard copy's of the documentation).
Many other dreamweaver books say they have a chapter on extensions but this has never been extension development in my experience, so beware.
As for this forum, this is now rarely visited by extension developers, so getting help/advice here is often a question of if your post is seen. As an example I now only visit this section once or twice a month, which is possibly more than many others.

  • Extension development question

    Hello!
How can I use for example standard „Select Connection” dialog in my own extension development? Is it allowed? Or should I create my own?
    Regards,
    Alexandre S.

    Alexandre,
While we don't have the javadoc published, you can ask any questions here.
What your looking for is this:
    * Invokes a dialog for selecting a connection.
    * @param title the dialog title
    * @param prompt the prompt string for the dialog
    * @param connName the initially selected connection name, or <code>null</code> to
    * use the default
    * @param oracleOnly whether to only display Oracle connections.
    * @param openConnection whether to open the connection if not yet opened
oracle.dbtools.raptor.controls.ConnectionSelectorUI.getConnection( String title, String prompt, String connName, boolean oracleOnly ,boolean openConnection)
The return is a string of the name of the connection.
To get the actual connection from the name of the connection, you'll do this:
    oracle.dbtools.raptor.utils.Connections.getInstance().getConnection(name)
    -kris

  • Extension Development without Extension Builder?

    Hey,
Is it possible to do Extension Development without Extension Builder? I'm an indie developer that needs to build a tool within Flash to help an artist that's working with me,  as such, I think the partner program is an additional cost that's a bit steep at the moment.
I get the impression that it is possible to use Flex and the Flash builder itself to do so without the additional benefits of Extension Builder.  However, I get the impression that this is really a manual process and I'm uncertain as to how documented the process is. Has anyone explored this? Any suggestions or pointers in the right direction would be great.
    Cheers,
    Jeremy

    Hello Jeremy,
    yes you can .
A good starting point is the video by Maria Gutierrez in the CS SDK Team blog.
I've been using for some time the SDK only in Flash Builder, so I can assure you it's possible to accomplish the task - nevertheless, since I've got Extension Builder, it's *far* easier to code, test and debug.
By the way, this documentation is good for you even if you don't own Extension Builder.
    Happy coding,
    Davide

  • Does anyone here know anything about Safari extension development?

About how much time does it take to develop a Sarari extension? About how much would it cost? I'd like an extension developer to develop a custom Safari extension for me if it didn't cost too much. Is this possible? Thank you.

There are few third party solutions for this. Try and persuade her to tick an option where it does not block any websites, but it will still log and anything you visit and this log cannot be deleted or modified. It even logs when you are in private browsing! However it is really very simple to overide parental controls.
I have had experience of this as my mum tried to do the exact same thing!

  • [SOLVED] Php not loading mysql extensions [Merge php.ini.pacnew file].

    Hi guys.
I have bitten the bullet and upgraded to the Apache 2.4 and PHP from testing and solved a 10 tons of post-upgrade config nightmares just to figure out that MariaDB will not work with those versions until recompiled against them. Can we please have MariaDB added to testing repo after it was compiled against the Apache and PHP from testing?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards.

I am not an idiot guys (well maybe I am but...), I would not come here and complain about missing extensions for mysql if I didnt tripple checked they were enabled in php.ini.
    [root@icsserver andrzejl]# cat /etc/php/php.ini | grep -v ';' | grep -i mysql | grep ext
    extension=mysqli.so
    extension=mysql.so
    extension=pdo_mysql.so

Which I assumed meant that the mysqld (in this case MariaDB) should be recompiled against php to provide those extensions. Could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.
