MySQL(JDBC) with JSP error

Hello all,
I'm using MySQL 4.1.1 with JConnector 3.1 or 3.0, and I getting a unexpected result.
Fetching unicode strings with function ResultSet.getString(), returning "????" instead of Hebrew unicode chars ("אבגד").
As in PHP with the same DB, everything is working well.
When trying to use InputStream of the CLOB, or BLOB, the result comes good.
Does I need to declare something inorder to use unicode chars with the JDBC?
I'm connecting in a normal method, so I didn't post any code...

when you start the server, you can specify unicode, something like this:
mysqld --unicodelanguage char set
look into the manu.

    I fixed it by copying the file "tools.jar" in the
    directory "common\lib".
    Thanks
    WebCEOYou shouldn't have to do that.
    You installed your JDK in "Program Files". Paths with spaces in them are anathema. I'll bet that's the root cause. Reinstall to a path without spaces in it and you won't have to move the tools.jar into common/lib.

  • Problem when using JDBC with JSP

    Hi,
    I am trying to display results after a database query on a JSP page, and then provide the options delete or update one of these records or to add a new one.
    What I did was to pass the ResultSet object to the webpage, and then display the result. When the buttons are pressed, I pass this ResultSet to another jsp page where I provide the required functionality. This is then forwarded back to the previous JSP, where the new data is displayed.
    However, when the first page is re-displayed, it creates a new connection and i was wondering if there is a way to close the previous connection through the ResultSet?
    Also, I wanted to put the ResultSet in a bean, but I think it is causing an error in the web server, saying something like it is not Serializable. Is there any other way to pass the ResultSet around?
    Any suggestions on better ways to manage databases though web interfaces would be welcome, or if someone could point me to a good tutorial on this topic!
    cheers
    Ankur

    Bad idea to be passing ResultSets around. Those are database cursors, a scarce resource.
    You should load that data into a data structure, close the ResultSet immediately, and then pass the data structure around in session if you must.
    Better yet, have a central servlet that deals with all database calls. Let the JSPs just do display, as they were meant to. - MOD

  • Mysql, jdbc, tomcat, jsp...

    hi,
    i am new in this topic.
    i have some simple questions:
    i use windows. i downloaded eclipse wtp, mysql 5.0.41, apache tomcat 6.0.13 and installed them all.
    what version of jdbc should i download and what are the steps for a working connection between jsp and mysql?
    what is the code that i should copy on the classpath?
    where is classpath?
    i know it is very boring for you but if you could help i would be so pleased:)
    thank you..

    what version of jdbc should i download JDBC is just available in the JDK.
    If you mean the JDBC driver, the Connector/J, just refer to the manfacturer's site.
    Here is a link: http://www.mysql.com/products/connector/j/
    For Java 1.5 (JDBC 3.0), get the Connector/J 5.0.
    For Java 1.6 (JDBC 4.0), get the Connector/J 5.1.
    and what are the steps for a working connection between jsp and mysql?
    what is the code that i should copy on the classpath?Read the reference manual available at the Connector/J site.
    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/connector-j.html
    where is classpath?It depends on the running environment. As you're using Eclipse, just rightclick at the project, choose Properties, navigate to Java Build Path, choose tab Libraries and add the JAR to the classpath.

  • Problems with jsp-error page in web.xml

    Hello everybody, I have a confusing problem concerning the use of jsps as error pages for 404-errors.
    I inserted the following lines in my web.xml file:
    <error-page>
    <error-code>404</error-code>
    <location>/personal404.jsp</location>
    </error-page>
    The problem is: when an 404 occurs, instead of showin the personal404.jsp, the browser tells me that it tries to download a file which it can't (it tries to download the mis-spelled file). When I try to redirect the 404 to a static html-page, as in
    <error-page>
    <error-code>404</error-code>
    <location>/personal404.html</location>
    </error-page>
    everything works fine.
    Please, does anybody have any idea or suggestion, what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sebastian

    Hi Ivan,
    I tried it, but there wasn't any difference.
    I'll try to explain in more detail what happens:
    Imagine my application has the following root-path
    http://myServerName:port/mainRoot/
    When I try the following URL:
    http://myServerName:port/mainRoot/pageThatDoesNotExist.jsp, the browser tells me, it tries to download the file pageThatDoesNotExist.jsp from myServerName and that it can't find that file.
    The same happens, when I type http://myServerName:port/mainRoot/pathThatDoesNotExist/pageThatDOESExist.jsp, except that the browser tries to download the file pageThatDOESExist.jsp which (again) it can't.
    I have located the files 404.jsp and 404.html in the same directory, so I don't think this is a path-related problem, because everything works fine, when I specify the 404.html as the target error page (i.e. the browser displays the 404.html when I type the URLs shown above).
    I don't know if I'm making this clear, but maybe you get the idea.
    Sebastian

  • Help with JSP Errors

    Hi
    I was wondering if anyone could help me by taking out a few minutes of their time to browse through my JSP files and help me to explain why the files will not execute and keep throwing errors.
    The types of errors thrown are SQL Exceptions and JavaNullPointer Exceptions, there are approximately 7 files, of which the execptions thrown are similar, so i hope solving the problem in a couple of the files will help me to do understand the errors in the others.
    Thanks in advance
    My email address is [email protected]; if anyone is interested in hlping me please could you email me.
    Thanks again

  • Using JDBC with JSP

    I have a standalone application using Swing. Im converting it to a web / JSP/Servlets application.
    Can my JSP acess my database using the same classes it used to or should I configure in my Tomcat a data source and call my database using the jndi name ?
    thx in advance,
    Giselle

    Agreed - JSPs are best for presentation.
    I have a front controller servlet that delegates to POJOs to do database interactions and then forwards results to JSPs for display. No scriptlet code in my pages, no database interactions, just looping through collections and displaying the results. - MOD

    Ready message received from Oc4jNotifier.
    Embedded OC4J startup time: 29125 ms.

    I did what Manu suggested with no success. Alternatively, I registered the driver jar with embedded OC4J preferences > global > libraries. Still does not work. Please, note, that when I run JUnit tests against my BC4J application modules with JDBC URL as connection type, everything works just fine. The problem comes while running the JSF application when the application module is using JDBC DataSource as connection type.

  • Problem using JDBC driver with JSP

    Hi, I am trying to connecto to my mysql server via a JSP page, but it seems that there is a problem with the driver call or something in my configuration that unables me to connect. I have the mysql-connector-java-3.0.7-stable driver.
    This is how my classpath looks like:
    CLASSPATH=/home/hooper/Sources/mysql-connector-java-4.0.7-stable/lib:/home/hooper/Sources/mysql-connector-java-3.0.7-stable/com:/home/hooper/Sources/mysql-connector-java-3.0.7-stable/mysql-connector-java-3.0.7-stable-bin.jar:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_02:.:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_02/lib/tools.jar:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_02
    And this is my JSP page code:
    <%@ page language="java" import= "java.sql.*"%>
    <%
    Connection con = null;
         String userName = "hooper";
         String password = ""; //No password
         String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/test";
         //Load the Driver class file
         Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
         //Make a connection to the MySQL database
         con = DriverManager.getConnection (url, userName, password);
         out.println ("Database connection established");
              if (con != null){
                   //Close the connection
                   con.close();
    %>
    And this is the error I get from Tomcat4.1.18:
    HTTP Status 500 -
    type Exception report
    message
    description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.
    exception
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
    root cause
    javax.servlet.ServletException: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
    I hope someone can help me with this.
    Thanks,
    Luis

    Hi..
    Try using this way
    String userName = "hooper";
    String password = ""; //No password
    String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test";
    Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
    try to download the driver for mysql and add it to your classpath
    Hope this works

    Tomcat is running with a Java security manager that doesn't let your application connect via sockets to applications outside Tomcat. You could perhaps fix this by configuring Tomcat with a security policy that does permit that, but don't ask me how to do that. I would fix the problem by using connection pools that are (I believe) built into Tomcat.
