Mysterious sqlplus error (/tmp/sh$$.* file)

I recently see this error frequently in our system. The log shows something like
/tmp/sh28370.3: cannot open
SQL Error Exiting...
The /tmp/sh<PID>.* file seems to be the sqlplus generated file. I could some some similar files in the /tmp directory generated by other processes. And there is only sql statement inside. I guess sqlplus stores the sql statement to be executed in /tmp/sh<PID>.* files for some reason.
This issue happens randomly but normally at a particular time range during a day. When it happens, many similar processes would fail. There was plenty of space under /tmp when it happens. So, I doubt it's a file system issue. Anyone experienced similar issue before and know how to resolve it?

Are you calling sqlplus from a shell script? Most likely, you are. It is a unix shell bug. For example, [Bug 4698117 |http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do;jsessionid=6d6c73ec231bf090af3be664ecc6?bug_id=4698117]

ORACLE_HOME is on mount point u03, checked config.properties but no mention of mount point /u01.
Dont know from where /u01 came. Could you please help me re configuring the env pointing to /u03.
Reports server is up though without any issues.

Ensure that the report name is correct. Also ensure that the report exist in REPORTS_PATH environment variable. Otherwise run the report including the reports path.
E.g.
report=<reports directory>/test2.rdf

The issue is fixed.
Our XML Publisher TMP is not defined, so it uses the APPLTMP used by concurrent manager. There is a folder xdofonts/<SID> in $APPLTMP. It contains the fonts used by XML publisher and on the of font file (.ttf) was 0 byte. We copied the ttf file from QA. And it started working.
Best practice is to define diffent TMP for concurrent managers and XML Publisher.

"Error writing to file" when installing Oracle9i

I am fairly new to Oracle and have not been able to install Oracle 9i on my Redhat 7.2 box. In three attempts to install I have encountered the same error at some point, usually early on 5% or 10% into the install.
The error is:
     "Error in writing to file /usr/oracle/product/9.2.0/olap/wrksht/wks.jar"
However, it has not happened on the same file each time. I have stopped the installation of that component, but it encounters the same error on other files. I have tried redownloading the oracle disks and reinstalling, but to no avail. I read on one posting that Oracle needs to have glib2.2(rather than glib1.2) installed, so I downloaded it and will be trying that later today. If anyone has encountered this error and knows how to solve it I would appreciate the help. Below I have listed my computer configuration and I have attached the portion of the install log that identifies the error that takes place.

I have been trying to install Oracle 9.2.0.1 on redhat 8.0 box, for ages now. I get the following error first during install
Error in writing to file libclntsh.so.9.0
Then it is a series of errors, similar.
In the end there is the dreaded linking error... for the ins_rdbms.mk sdo_on
i just cant handle it.
What the hell is wrong?
I have done everything right as far as i know... any solutions?

if run the env file and sqlplus from user ORACLE.i don't get the error.
but from the appsdev user i get the error.
what should i do to execute sqlplus successfully from appsdev user.

Did you specify the dba group as the primary group for "appsdev" user?

Is is still a not enough space problem? i think you have specified 1050m for users01.dbf file, your file system /sisdev04 has something like
1.5gb of free space. it failed because of lack of free space. may be you can reduce your datafile size or try to
create in another filesystem.

Error opening password file

Hi, I'm traying to start up a database in sqlplus on SuSE 8.2 and Ora9.2, I have the next error:

Hi Marco,
as far as I know, you have to use the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE = SHARED option in your init...ora file.
In this case you have one password file for one or more databases. It can only have the entries for SYS and INTERAL.
I'm sorry to cannot answer your question of having different password files for different databases %-)

I have a new 2 month old(Aug 2014) hp eliteone 800 all in one computer running win 8.1 64bit. i have two 1 tb hard drives raid configuration. left computer on for an afternoon and when I came back it was off mysteriously. tried to turn on and it
attempted to repair and was never able to repair. hp sent a new windows 8 software to install, they said os was corrupt. installed three times now i get error code: 0xc0000001 file: \windows\system32\winload.efi missing or contains errors. hp said installation
disc probably corrupt and sent me another. installed twice with same result, error code: 0xc0000001 file: \windows\system32\winload.efi missing or contains errors. This began after the computer was just one month old and after i had placed 300-400
gb of my personal data from other computers on it. I need all of these files so can't just recover/delete all of the files on the computer, although i have read that that may be my only solution? If i do recover will the files still be on the second hard drive??

Have you tried to carry out a system recovery, which will restore your system back to factory defaults and how was the result?
In addition, I suggest you use the new installation media to do a clean install(full format the old system).

We got below error while writing file to FTP server. Any one have any idea on this?

Export for system copy fails - Error 9 (Bad file number)

Hello all,
I am attempting to perform the export phase for a hetergenous system copy on our BI system (BI 7.0 - NW2004s). This system runs on HP-UX 11.11 using Oracle 10.2.0.2 and will be migrated to Windows Server 2003 and MS SQL Server 2005, once the export is complete.
While running sapinst to export the data from the source system, there are several input dialog screens that are skipped, which means I am not able to enter all the paramters used for the export. After seeing this behavior from sapinst, I reviewed the sapinst.log and sapinst_dev.log files and find the warning/error "System call failed. Error 9 (Bad file number)". I have included a portion of these files below.
I have reviewed notes 546006 and 583861, but these seem to refer to an Oracle error ORA-27121, but I am not receiving any Oracle errors in sapinst.log or the Oracle alert log. I have looked for possible permission or ownership problems with any of the SAP or Oracle files, but have not found any that were incorrect. Also, these errors do not specify which file sapinst is having problems with, so I do not have a specific file or area to check.
If anyone has seen something similar to this and has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks for the reply. I did confirm the points you made, and have the details below.
1. check filesystem, if you have enough space, especially /tmp
All filesystems have available space, and /tmp has 310 MB available, before the start of sapinst.
2. check again alert log, trace log for Oracle,
I could not find any errors in the alert_SID.log or any unusual trace files.
3. How did you run sapinst? Are you using "root" account.
I am running sapinst as user root and I am following all the recomendations in the system copy guide (at least as far as I can tell. ;p )
We have four BI systems in this landscape, and the other three have migrated successfully. The procedure I am using, is the same as for the other 3 systems and uses the same SAP media directory that was used on the other systems.
One other item that may be part of my problem here, is that this system is the production system, and was originally installed as a high-availability system, using HP-UX Service Guard for clustering. Currently, this system does not have fail-over enabled, but of course the cluster is still intact. One required piece of the Service Guard enviornment is the use of a virtual hostname. This seems to resolve successfully by sapinst, as I see the correct (virtual) hostname referenced several times. While this is a clustered system (for fail-over purposes), the CI and DB are installed on the same host. So it is not a distributed system, and if failover had been initiated, it would fail both the CI and DB instance, which is the same and only SAP instance.
This did raise one question in my mind, however. I am attempting to extract this using the following menu path within sapinst.
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Support Release 3 --> Software Life-Cycle Options --> System Copy --> Oracle --> Source System Export --> Central System --> Based on AS ABAP and AS Java
Since this does use Service Guard, but is not a distributed system, should I be using a different path in the sapinst tree, for the export? I have only performed a migration using the above path, so I am not familar with the detailf of the other types, such as High-Availabitly or Distributed-System.

SqlPlus error messages are daunting, aren't they?

I am trying to understand the logic of SQLPLUS error messages. I read the User's Guide and Reference but I still don't understand how these line numbers are calculated!!
I make an example. I am writing some stored procedures in a file merge_procedures.sql, that I am editing in my favourite text editor (Crimson editor). Beside, I have SQL Plus running in a dos windows in XP.
The file defines 2 packages and various procedures and functions.

Like Danny, I find it helpful to read messages like this from the top down.
The stack above says that the real error, ORA-00001, occurred at line 68 of movesections.
The procedure at line 68 was called from line 88 of movesections. The real error may have occured around this point; for example, if you passed a bad parameter at line 88, then the code around line 68 may be perfect.
The procedure at line 88 was called form lline 156 of movesections. Again, the real error may be at line 156, or somewhere leading up to line 156.
The procedure at line 156 was called from line 1 of some anonymous code, such as

Labview stopped at "init tmp resource files" on FC4

any guys here using Fedora Core 4 Linux?
I have installed Labview 7.0 on many Linux distributions successfully.
And Labview worked well. But now I found I can't run Labview 7.0
correctly on Fedora Core $.
When I started "labview". the welcome screen was displayed. But it paused at "init tmp resource files".
This message is displayed at the right bottom of the welcome picture.
And the CPU is used almost 100% by labview. After about 30
seconds, the labview collapsed - the welcome picture is closed. And no
more action.

Have any guy here encountered the same problem as me?
Can anyone give me the suggestions?

Thanks for your post. It looks as if your computer is not seeing the driver
calls and thus it gives the error saying it cannot complete that task. Does
this happen with any other example programs you run using DAQmx? What version
of DAQmx do you have? I would first recommend getting the latest DAQmx driver
version, 8.7.1. You can find this at the following link below.

Please post back if installing the latest driver does not
fix the problem.
