N81: impossible to back it up

Hi to all, I'm just experiencing this issue: I start Nokia PC Suite 7.1.30.9, the backup application, everything seems to goes in the normal way but when it's backing up the phone settings (last step) I have the error message telling me that "the file name is incorrect, use a valid file name..."
I tried to use different PC suite versions (I have stored the installers of 6 different versions) with no help, I tried also to re-flash the OS (v. 21.0.010) but always with no help.
When PC Suite give me that error, the phone or is completely freezed or is OFF, the only way to resume it is removing and re-installing the battery.
I tried on two different computers, one with XP sp3 and the other one with Vista Ultimate sp2, but the problem is the same on both pc's
Any idea pls?
Tks in advance

Ok, tks.
That's a useful workaround for now, but I would to have a copy on my PC also, just in case something goes wrong with the phone nor the memory card.
So, I would also to try restoring a previous version of the OS, but I don't know where I can find it and how to flash it
Already tryed with PC Suite 7.1.30.9, 7.1.26.0, 7.1.18.0 and 7.0.8.0 without success.
Last succesful backup was on 28th May 2009, so from there to now I really don't know what's happen

  • Impossible to back-up to TC

I get an error message– The backup disk image could not be mounted.

OK folks I have had this happen 3 times. In each case I have had to create a backup folder on my TC put the sparse bundle file in it and then rebackup.
I have also deleted the preference folder from the library. My guess is that the file gets damaged but I do not know. you can mount the old backup and look through files, I just delete it after a few weeks when I know I am current.
I have an Imac 2.8 1TB HD on 10.5.5, I have the 1TB TC. using my own wireless network for just the TC and my imac.
What has helped is the following
set the computer never to sleep never to spin down drive
The other error I get is having the TM spin and spin. when you look with preferences you see the term backup but no message below the completion bar. (preparing, backing up xmb of ymb, finishing) I stop the backup and retry and then it goes through just fine.
The longest I have gone without a problem is 6 months. The shortest has been 4 days and I am current now since the 13th.
It could be a bad region of the TC, an intermittent wireless signal that stalls the system (hence the do not let the computer sleep) or errors in copying to the file that result in damage where you can no longer copy to it but you can access the data via TM.
One thing that has always bothered me is that my sparsebundle file shows the date of creation but never shows an up date like say a word file would after you edit it. I sense this is a design flaw in either TM or TC or both but because there are so many variables its difficult to diagnose.
If this is what you are getting please confirm and we can see if we can help each other because going through a 120GB update is something I would like to avoid as a regular occurance.

  • Impossible to back up my touch before sync

    Hello,
I've an Touch firt generation, and yesterday I installed iPhone OS 3. Now when connecting my Touch, the Back-up that's just before the sync is very long (actually more than 5 hours) and seems to be blocked :-/
    Is it normal ??

I do not have restore it ?!? AUtomatically made by iTunes ?
Yesterday, the process of back-up didn't finish after install, so I've stopped it. Today, I've deleted the partial back-up with thre preference panel of iTunes and the rsult is the same. A goo new, the back-up increases slowly (I've found the folder in my library, around 150 Mo now for more than 15000 files) and the progress graph in iTunes is always blocked at the same place ...

  • What is the best way to back up Acrobat?

I was told by a computere specialist that the pieces of Adobe programs are scattered all over the place. I need to learn the best way to backup all of my Adobe applications.  I have an un-numbered version of Acrobat from early 2004 and don't want to buy a new version.

It's essentially impossible to back up a single installed program by itself. They don't just have files, they have registry entries, device drivers, licensing and who knows what. There are only two things you can do and I strongly recommend you do both
    1. Back up the install media. That is, make a safety copy of the CDROM or DVD and put it somewhere different. If you buy a download, make two copies or you might as well have thrown your money in the bin if the computer fails. Backups of the install media are the only possible way to get Acrobat to a new different computer. Make sure to keep the serial numbers, and qualifying numbers of older software. I write them on the disks.
    2. Back up the entire computer with software that can backup whole disks and systems, and restore entire systems. COPYING FILES WON'T DO THIS. This will help if your hard drive fails but it will be useless if you buy a new computer.

  • Backing up itunes and iphoto

I have a mac mini (iPhoto '08) and a macbook (iPhoto '06 ) that have some separate and some of the same photos. I was wondering what is the best way to back up each library and how to do that. Also,
    1) If I just back up each library to an external hard drive, would either library open in any version of iPhoto or would the '08 library version need iphoto '08 and so on...?
    2) When you back up an iPhoto library to a separate hard drive, do you have to have iPhoto to open that backup file or can you use..say preview to view them?
Same question for iTunes. I have iTunes on both the mac mini and the macbook which are not synced completely with each other due to running out of hard drive space. What is the best way to make a backup of each library from each computer or should/can I make just one backup of both libraries on a separate hard drive without duplicating and songs.
    Thank you for your help.
    Jimmy

    Just a comment:
    1) If I just back up each library to an external hard drive, would either library open in any version of iPhoto or would the '08 library version need iphoto '08 and so on...?
A newer iPhoto version can open older iPhoto Libraries, but not vice versa. And after a newer iPhoto has opened an older iPhoto Library, the older version will no longer be able to open it.
What is the best way to make a backup of each library from each computer or should/can I make just one backup of both libraries on a separate hard drive without duplicating and songs.
That is impossible. Backing up two machines and avoiding duplicates are mutually exclusive goals. A backup should be a safety copy of your system that allows you to restore the system as it is. So it will contain duplicates from files on other machines, if there are duplicates on both machines.
The simplest solution to your backup problem would be to setup Time Machine  on both computers  to regularly backup your macs to an external drive. Get separate drives for both machine and let them connected, and all will be automatic, for iPhoto and for iTunes as well.

  • Mod/PlSql Report without 'save as' menu and with print control

I have to design a secure report. They want me to design it in a secure way so that people can see their special data on the screen but can not have a 'Save as' menu, and plus people can print their reports only three times in a month, no more.
I have had prepared it in mod/plsql but they wanted me to add these controls later. I think having these controls on html output is impossible, so back to Reports changed my mind.
I need help. Any idea ??
    Thanks so much..

Impossible. You control what the server sends the client - a HTML page.
You cannot control what the client does with it. The client can be a number of different browsers. The client can be a tty telnet type client. The client can wear suspenders and a bowler hat. The client can wear ballet shoes and a tutu.
To think that one can control the client's management/control of that data (specifically web browser based) from a mod_plsql server side PL/SQL proc, is a fatal misunderstanding of the very fundamental principles of client-server.

  • Report Writer Issues

A user transported Report Writer objects into a production system which is affecting other businesses data when they run report writer. The first issue I am seeing is that incorrect variants  are defaulting fir at least one Report Group, and maybe more. I suppose it is impossible to back out the transports that are causing the problem?
How does the variant default to a specific report Group?
Any other Report Writer transactions, info, or other materials will be appreciated.
                   Thank-You

In the lead column, this is where you define your row definitions. For example if you are using GL accounts these would be defined here. Next, create another row definition by double clicking. It will bring up an option. Pick formula. Then you can do math calculations.
In the currency column you should only define one currency. This is your key figure. Also select the characteristics that you want it to be based on 'ie fiscal year'.  If in FI try TSL.

  • Importing keywords from external database

I have a simple request that seems to be impossible. Back in the days before LIghtroom, I had a database that identified most of my images, cross-referenced to their filename.  Rather than manually keyword these thousands of images, I would like to import the keywords based on the data already inputted into the database. Is there any way to accomplish this?
    TIA,
    Richard

    Richard,
I assume you're talking about photos already imported into LR.
AFAIK there's now way to batch update keywords for photos in the catalog, as PlugIns are currently not allowed to modify keywords.
LR/Transporter PlugIn provides a way to import metadata from a file, but not keywords. LR/Transporter suggests a partial workaround for this (see "The Keyword Conundrum" on this LR/Transporter page).

  • Returning multiple date columns in order

    Hi,
I was just wondering if there was an easy way of returning a number of date values in order at row level.
An example of the data would be:-
    TABLE DATES
    P1_DATE P2_DATE P3_DATE P4_DATE
    01-JAN-2009 13-FEB-2008 16-JUN-1998 30-SEP-2006
The problem being that in this case I would want to return P3_DATE, P4_DATE, P2_DATE and P1_DATE in this order. However, this would not always be the case as there are no specific rules to state that P3_DATE is before P4_DATE etc.
Any help or advice you could give would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    ca84

    Hi,
For four items, it's not too bad:
    SELECT     GREATEST (p1_date, p2_date, p3_date, p4_date)     AS latest_date
    ,     LEAST ( GREATEST (p1_date, p2_date, p3_date)
               , GREATEST (p1_date, p2_date, p4_date)
               , GREATEST (p1_date, p3_date, p4_date)
               , GREATEST (p2_date, p3_date, p4_date)
               )                              AS second_latest_date
    ,     GREATEST ( LEAST (p1_date, p2_date, p3_date)
                  , LEAST (p1_date, p2_date, p4_date)
                  , LEAST (p1_date, p3_date, p4_date)
                  , LEAST (p2_date, p3_date, p4_date)
                  )                         AS second_earliest_date
,     LEAST (p1_date, p2_date, p3_date, p4_date)      AS earliest_dateFor five items or more, I would un-pivot them into separate rows, assign numbers using ROW_NUMBER, then pivot them back into one row.
This assumes none of the items are NULL. If you can't assume that, use NVL to map NULLs to some impossible date (like TO_DATE (1, 'J')) for the sorting, then use NULLIF to map the impossible dates back to NULL for display.
The solution above does not assume the items as distinct.

  • Help! Where are my contacts & text messages after syncing new iPhone!

    Hi anyone who can help!
I've just had to replace my iPhone 3G which was faulty, and got my new one today without any problem.
I did all the right things by syncing all my iPhone content last night with iTunes so that I could reload them onto the new one.
But when I plugged in the new one to sync from 'back up', it said the new iphone's software was too old, and that I would first need to
1 - set it up as a new phone
    2- upgrade the software
3 Then sync again using the 'back up' content.
Well I've done the first two but after that I've found it impossible to back up using the original content and now I fear it's synced it again with new material, ie an empty phone basically! What I really need to know is all that content, ie my entire phone book AND text messages thread (going back a year) still retrievable? I've located all my contacts in the address book and I may have to re-enter them manually, which I can live with, but what about the text messages??
Any help at all much appreciated!
    simon

Text messages aren't included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with the iPhone's backup, and the same for contacts unless you are syncing contacts with a supported address book app on your computer, which must be manually selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
Before syncing contacts with the Address Book app on your Mac, enter one contact in the Address Book app on your Mac. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
The same applies to calendar events before the first sync with iCal on your Mac.
If you transfer your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac per the instructions included with this link, no iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your Mac.

  • Help! Purchased Music list corrupted

I recently had a kernel panic on my machine and had to reboot from the restore discs. Then I had to reinstall the iTunes library from a backup.
Now, when I click on "Purchased" under the Store heading, the list I get shows hundreds of other songs (copied from CDs) in addition to the ones I purchased online. This makes it next to impossible to back up my purchased music without going through and manually selecting every song.
Is there a way to restore the "Purchased" list so that it reflects only the music I've actually purchased online?
    Thanks for any help.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I think yours is a separate problem. If you read my post, it's about songs showing up in the Purchased list that were ripped from my CDs, not about a corrupt song, whatever that is. You might want to start your own topic. Good luck.

  • Reformat and save preexisting programs?

Okay so I have searched all over the internet for answers including here. I am obviously new to Mac. I wanted to know if it is possible to do a Windows like system restore on my Macbook Pro. When doing this system restore can I save my programs that came with the Mac? For example, when I bought the laptop it did NOT come with CD's. So I dont have any backups for the software like Windows Parrallels. So is it possible to wipe the system clean while keeping all my programs without repurchasing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First it should be said that a "Windows-like restore" should be rarely, if ever, necessary.
In the unlikely event that you do need to reinstall the Mac OS, you can do that in place without disturbing (almost) any other data on the startup volume. That doesn't mean you don't need backups, of course -- you need those whether you reinstall or not.
If you erase the startup volume completely, you can reinstall and then import your data from a backup using the Setup Assistant.
Large files that are constantly changing may be difficult or impossible to back up adequately. That would apply to the virtual disk files created by Parallels. You should back up your Windows files from within Windows, or unmount the virtual disk for backup.

  • When I launch I photo it wants me to choose a library but it doesn't find one which is impossible, because i still have no storage. before i can clean up i want to back up them. how can i find my library?

When I launch I photo it wants me to choose a library but it doesn't find one which is impossible, because i still have no storage. before i can clean up i want to back up them. how can i find my library?

You may very well have damaged your library - or even your system by not having adaquate storage available
And never select all of the pitcture and move them - that will destroy your library - the iPhotolibrary is a SQLite database and must always be kept intact as a single entity -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
