Native method in linux??

hiii
i am writing a java program where i need to call a c program because java is not able to do the same work properly. can any ane help me on how to use a native method in linux (Fedora core 2). i searched for it....but i am getting some exceptions like
"java.lang.unsatisfiedlinkerror"....
thanks in advance

What people are trying to point out is that you can't use that static library to resolve native methods. Native methods resolve to shared libraries. So you need to write a shared library that links with the static library and wraps the functions you want to export from the shared library. Check your compiler/linker documentation on how to build a shared library. (IIRC, something like -shared for gcc).

    Try to set
    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/j2sdk1.4.2/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so
    before you start the program.
    (I assume you loaded the library via dlopen)

    I compiled it by gcc on linux as a ".so" file and everything is working on linux.
    On windows I am compiling this by Mingw gcc.
    Here is the make file on Windows which is used by Mingw32-make:

    dpci_core.c is my code file and  libdpci_static.lib is the library that my c dll will depend on.
    Any thought to this UnsatisfiedLinkError exception problem?

  • How to Provide Native Methods in an Executable?

    Hey there,
    I'm writing a native Java launcher as a replacement for java.exe (or eclipse.exe). So far I'm only on Windows NT x64. Things work pretty well: My native executable launches the JVM using the Invocation API and calls a static `main' method.
    Now I thought it was a good idea if my executable could provide the implementations of a few native methods so the `jvm.dll' can communicate with the executable that it was loaded by. This would free me from having to locate and load a shared library at runtime. I expected this to "just work," but alas, it didn't. Providing a simple native method such as
    JNIEXPORT jboolean JNICALL
    Java_com_phrood_kourou_Kourou_available0(JNIEnv* env, jclass cls) {
    return JNI_TRUE;
    in the executable and calling it from Java through JNI, I get an `UnsatisfiedLinkError'. Why is that so? Both the executable and the DLL live in the same process, so shouldn't the C function be found without further concern?
    Then I came up with the somewhat experimental idea and just loaded the EXE file from Java by `System.load(pathToExe)'. I never expected this to work, but---it did!
    That's good news, of course. Only I'm afraid that's a lot more memory-consuming than it needs to be. My EXE file has some 200 KB and counting, and I only need I a handful of small native-method implementations. I could write a DLL, of course, but I'd like to do without an extra file and an extra project to set up and maintain.
    So, my question is: Why do I have to load the EXE into the same process a second time? Is there a more elegant solution?
    Regards,
    -- Phil

    It doesn't work anyway. Although I can load my EXE as a DLL, the newly-loaded image has its own address space, so I cannot use that to call back the EXE.
    I think I can acomplish what I need without a DLL altogether. Hopefully.
    I want the usage of my executable to be as simple as using `java.exe'. Clients should just write a configuration file, rename and start or double-click the EXE and that's it. An MSI would be pointless here, since the usage of the launcher is completely generic.
    More importantly, maintaining cross-platforms C++ projects with Eclipse CDT is possible but a bit of a hassle. I already have two projects: one for the EXE and one for the Java companion Jar. Creating a new DLL project would require me to maintain 3 Eclipse build configurations for Windows, Linux, and Mac; and even another three should I support the x86 architecture. I'd be happy if I could do without.
    What strikes me is that you folks try to teach me what I should do or not do, even call my problem a "nonproblem," rather than just help me out and try to answer my questions. None of the answers here were helpful to me, but I think I figured it out.
    Nonetheless, thanks for taking the time to read and answer.

  • Errors in compiling native method

    I am trying to call a native method from a java source program. I generated header file by javah and wrote c file for native method implementation. I work on RedHat Linux-7.2.
    Java file for native method:-
    class HelloNative
    {  public static native void greeting();
    static
    {  System.loadLibrary("HelloNative");
    Java file for calling native method(main java file):-
    class HelloNativeTest
    {  public static void main(String[] args)
    {  HelloNative.greeting();
    C file implementing native method:-
    #include <stdio.h>
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_HelloNative_greeting
    (JNIEnv* env, jclass cl)
    {  printf("Hello world!\n");
         I am using following command for compiling c source file:-
    cc -G -I/usr/java/jdk1.3.1/include -I/usr/java/jdk1.3.1/include/linux HelloNative.c -o HelloNative.so
    It gave me followig errors on compiling:-
    cc: unrecognized option `-G'
    /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/2.96/../../../crt1.o: In function `_start':
    /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/2.96/../../../crt1.o(.text+0x18): undefined reference to `main'
    collect2: ld returned 1 exit status.

    Looks to me like you're not telling the linker to create a library (DLL). I'm not familiar with Linux, but clearly if the linker if looking for 'main' then its trying to build an executable.

  • How could I use native methods in CDC-Personal Profile?

    Hi, I know that CDC-Personal profile doesnt support JNI (I think so), but i think that must be a way to use native methods in an application written with Personal Profile. Thank you very much

    I'm esperiecing the JBluez executing in a CVM for Linux...all seems work well, and i know that only the CLDC doesn't support JNI but CDC support it. You only need to follow theinstructoins valids for use JNI with J2SE, if i'haven't readed bad, CDC is Java 1.3 compliant...

  • ArrayOutOfBoundsException in socketRead0 (native method)

    Hello,
    I have a problem with the following code:
      public static void socketOverload() throws Exception {
        Thread serverThread = new Thread(new Runnable() {
          public void run() {
            try {
              ServerSocket serverSocket = new ServerSocket(10000);

              InputStream in = socket.getInputStream();
              byte[] b = new byte[10];
              while (true) {
                in.read(b,0,b.length);
            } catch (Exception e) {
              System.out.println("Server Error");
              e.printStackTrace();
        Thread clientThread = new Thread(new Runnable() {
          public void run() {
            try {
              // put your local ip here, do not use 127.0.0.1!
              Socket socket = new Socket("129.132.130.156",10000);
              System.out.println("Client OK");
              OutputStream out = socket.getOutputStream();
              byte[] b = new byte[1000];
              for (int i = 0; i < b.length; i++) {
                b[i] = 0;
              while (true) {
                out.write(b,0,b.length);
            } catch (Exception e) {
              System.out.println("Client Error");
              e.printStackTrace();
        serverThread.start();
        synchronized (Thread.currentThread()) {
          try {
            Thread.currentThread().sleep(2000);
          } catch (Exception e) {
        clientThread.start();
      }The client contacts the server and sends the server much more data than it can process.
    My question is, why does the server crash (sometimes immediately, sometimes after a short moment) with an ArrayOutOfBoundsException in the (native code) readSocket0 method?
    java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException

      at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:536)Sure, the server is overloaded and might drop some data on TCP/IP-layer because of a BufferOverflow or something like that. But why does it crash with an ArrayOutOfBounds? And why is the socket/stream closed afterwards? (OK, if it drops data it is out of synch with the byte-stream and can't go on.)
    The next question that arises: Why does the server crash and not the client? Is it possible to detect or circumvent the problem on client-side? Usually I would suppose the .write()-method to fail in this situation?
    And last: Why does it crash only with a local IP number, but not with "127.0.0.1"/localhost? I always thought there should be no difference? (I tried at least several minutes, but it never crashes.)
    Thanks :-).

    I get similar nonsensical errors in my heavy-socket use web crawling application. There are no bad parameters passed in from my code; as is seen from the following stack trace fragment, the problem location is reached via no-argument java runtime library methods, which then compose their own parameters to the native method:
    java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException

         at org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpParser.readRawLine(HttpParser.java:109)
    I definitely don't see these with the IBM Linux JVM, and I don't think I've ever seen them with the Sun Linux JVM. But they're fairly common with heavy client (web-fetching) activity in the 1.4.2 Windows JVM.
    Any insights on what's happening appreciated.

  • Native methods in MIDlet lib

    My Midlet uses a third-party lib zip file which has native methods in it. When I built my midlet in SUN's WTK2.0, I got this error message:
    ERROR: native methods should not appear

    If you know the possible solution, pls tell me at [email protected]
    Thanks!

    Sorry I forgot to add something. WTK2.1 would not
    complain "native" but in order for your native access
    function to work, you have to implement some bridge
    between native functions and your java native access
    functions. Those implementation should be done in the
    phone code.Hi there lisaran,
    I tried to install the WTK 2.1_1 for linux, but the installation is corrupted it seems. Did you work on WTK on linux or on windows. Actually, even I am having the same problem. I have native methods declared in the java code. I use KNI to further the calls to a proprietary c code library.
    Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi!
    Here is part of StrictMath.java code.
    * The class <code>StrictMath</code> contains methods for performing basic
    * numeric operations such as the elementary exponential, logarithm,
    * square root, and trigonometric functions.
    * <p>
    * To help ensure portability of Java programs, the definitions of
    * many of the numeric functions in this package require that they
    * produce the same results as certain published algorithms. These
    * algorithms are available from the well-known network library
    * <code>netlib</code> as the package "Freely Distributable
    * Math Library" (<code>fdlibm</code>). These algorithms, which
    * are written in the C programming language, are then to be
    * understood as executed with all floating-point operations
    * following the rules of Java floating-point arithmetic.
    * <p>
    * The network library may be found on the World Wide Web at:
    * <blockquote><pre>
    * http://metalab.unc.edu/
    * </pre></blockquote>
    * <p>
    * The Java math library is defined with respect to the version of
    * <code>fdlibm</code> dated January 4, 1995. Where
    * <code>fdlibm</code> provides more than one definition for a
    * function (such as <code>acos</code>), use the "IEEE 754 core
    * function" version (residing in a file whose name begins with

  • Returning several values from a C native method

    Hi,
    I need to return 3 values from a native methode : an int (the return code), a string of variable length and a double.
    In pure C, my function would be defined as "int f ( char* s, double* d)", and I would "malloc" the string into the calling function, then copy my string to "s" and use "*d" to return the double...
    Is there a way to do that with JNI? I found some examples where the native function returns only one parameterlike: "return(*env)->NewStringUTF(env, buffer);" But I didn't find examples where the native function returns several parameters, including a string.
    Thanks in advance!
    JM

    This really has nothing to do with JNI.
    You have a method, and you want to return more than one type of value.
    The following solutions are possible.
    1. Return an array that contains all the values (actual return value.)
    2. Return an object that contains all the values (actual return value.)
    3. Use an array via the parameter list and fill in a value.
    4. Use an object via the parameter list and fill in the values.

    what is the reason for this one....?
    In my case, whenever the user has clicked the Identify button then the native method Identify should be called. That time it's working fine.
    But once the user has clicked the Enroll button, then first the Identify native method should be called, based upon the result, the enroll() native method will be called. I am getting the error whenever i am clicking the Enroll button.
    while clicking the Identify button i didn't get any such error....
    What would be the reason?
    someone pls clear my doubt.

  • Error while compiling javacode with native method using jni

    im trying to call function in dll that is written in vc++ from java application.
    For that i write a native method .the method name is StopDS1.
    my native method is : public native DWORD StopDS1();
    when compiling using javac i'm getting message like this:
    testdss.java:4: cannot found symbol
    symbol:class dword
    location :class testdss
    1error

    DWORD isn't a Java type, therefore you cannot use it as one.

  • Accessing a native method from within a packaged class

    I have seen some very useful information from RPaul. However, I can not quite get it to work.
    I have a class "JNIGetUserId" that is in a package "com.services.localoptions". I am trying to call a native method from a dll. it works fine at the default package level. But not in the package. I have tried adding the "_" between each level of the directory in the h and c++ files. I also found that doing a javah at the top of the package structure it includes some information in the h file. A "_0005" shows up between each level.
    This is on Windows XP. I am also using VisualAge for Java. I also am using JDK 1.3.1.
    The source files:
    package com.services.localoptions;
    * This class provides the JNI Interface to call the
    * AD User Maintainence routines.
    * These routines are stored in the JNIGetUserIdLibrary.dll.
    * The routines are:
    * <ul>
    * <li>getUser - returns a string containing the User Id
    * <eul>

    Ok. A co-worker figured it out for me. The key thing is to do "javah com.services.localoptions.JNIGetUserId". Note the use of "." instead of "\". Running on windows, I was used to doing "\". That was part of the problem. Another key is doing the javah at the top of the package structure. This was mentioned in a post over at IBM.
    We got our JNI stuff working now. thanks, ray.
