Need a Linux 2.4 kernel driver in the next 0-4 months

I have an important monitoring system that is controlled by a Linux box currently running a 2.2 kernel. In the next 0-4 months, it will be upgraded to Redhat 7 (2.4 kernel). I can delay the upgrade, but not stop it. Who do I see about developing a driver for this?

Do a search on the NI website for "0EF9PKEO" (a document on Linux driver
support). There's some 3rd party drivers at Linux Labs. You could also get
the NI DDK and roll your own.

    I am trying to use an NI GPIB card under Linux 2.6.7 (Debian). My efforts at hacking the source to get it to compile have so far been in vain. I would greatly appreciate it if someone experienced with this code could port it to Linux 2.6.

    Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places. Where did you hear or read that

  • Need Help with Oracleasm - a kernel module for the ASM library

    I am a beginner, trying to install Oracle RAC. I have a system with SuSE Linx 11 (64 bit) loaded. I need to get the correct ASMLib packages needed for installing ASM. I think I got the following packages that are needed for installing ASM
    1) oracleasmlib- the ASM libraries (oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.SLE11.x86_64.rpm)
    2) oracleasm-support- utilities needed to administer ASMLib (oracleasm-support-2.1.3-1.SLE11.x86_64.rpm)
    I am unable to find the third package.
    3) Oracleasm - a kernel module for the ASM library
    I looked at my kernel version it says "2.6.27.19-5-default". I am not sure where I can get the above third package. If you have an answer/know ase share your thoughts.
    Thank You

    Hi!
    Don't use ASMLib, it will be no longer available, it will only came in Oracle Unbreakable Kernel for Linux 6.
    The easly way to set the permissions on your devices is with a /etc/init.d script that do the job.
    Here is an example:
    #! /bin/bash
    # chkconfig: 2345 25 19
    # description: Set ASM Permissions on to devices at boot.
    case "$1" in
    start)
    /bin/chown oracle:oinstall /dev/sdb1
    /bin/chmod 0660 /dev/sdb1
    stop)
    #do nothing
    status)
    ls -l /dev/sdb1
    echo "Usage: $0 {start|stop|status}"
    exit 1
    esac
    exit o
    You need to replace the /dev/sdb1 for your acctual partitions.
    Please check the Docs to be sure that you meet all pre-reqs.

    Might be hard to find, but long ago there were a couple of Firewire<->SCSI adapters, if you have USB2 those might be available also...

  • When using a Seagate 1T external hard drive and Time Machine to back up hourly, if I delete photo files from the Mac hard drive before the next back up, are these retained on the Seagate drive or will they be lost (overwritten) in the next backu in the ne

    Does Time Machine erase previously saved files if, say, photos are deleted from the Macbook upon the next update, or will they be stored indefinately despite the current status of the files stored on the computer? Eg. can I bckup photo files to a Seagate 1T disc and then delete them to make more room on the computer in the knowlwdge that they are always going to be on the Seagate disc? Sorry if this is very elementary but I have not used a back up before like this, and am not sure how successive backups are overlaid or retained. Thanks!!

    TM is not designed to do what you ask. As Allan wrote TM is an incremental backup not an archival solution.
    If you delete a file from the HD it will eventually be removed from the TM backup (if it ever makes it on to the backup at all).
    How long before it is removed depends on a number of factors, TM disk drive size being one factor but not the only one.
    Material that is impossible to replace and is important to you (image files usually fitting that description) need to be backed up to as least one other drive and preferably more for long term storage.

  • I Need help wrapping an expandable text field to the next page, while pushing a subforum beneath it

    Hi, I hope I can get some help with this form that I am desperately trying to finish.
    I am unable to get an expandable text field to recognize both 1.) the positioned subforum underneath and 2.) the page break. I'll attach the file if it helps get an understanding of what I mean, and maybe someone can see what I did to royally screw it up. The area of the form in question is on page 4 of the attached document. I want the user to be able to write as much as they need in the summary section, and still fill out the last section afterwards.
    If more info is needed, let me know and I will do my best to describe what I did. My last solution I tried, before giving up, was to wrap the previous section, as well as the next section of the expandable text field, into its own subforum. Then, I nested the subforums together in another subforum.
    Thanks in advance.

    In case anyone sifting through forums, looking for the answer to this question, needs the answer: paulk07 was able to fix my document by unwrapping all of the subforms on the last page and then wrapping it in only 3 subforms (2 positioned/1 flowed) and then set the page to flow.
    From there, I set the margins so when the sectioned wrapped to a new page, it didn't end/begin at the edge of the page.
    Thanks again paulk07

  • I need to get a new hard drive for the g56..

     the one thats in it has a error code 301 and i cant boot it. This is only 16 months old and its only been used about 10 times.

    Hi:
    Below are my recommendations...
    You can get up to a 500 GB 2.5" SATA II notebook hard drive.
    5,400 RPM if you want longer battery time between charges
    7,200 RPM if you want more performance.
    Below is the link to the service manual for your PC.
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02657369/c02657369.pdf
    Hard drive removal and replacement procedures can be found in chapter 4. You can do it yourself.
    Just save the old hard drive because you need to take some things off of it (caddy and screws), and transfer them to the new hard drive.
    If you live in the USA or Canada, you can order notebook hard drives at reasonable prices from this vendor.

  • I need help with button coding to go to the next scene

    Hi! I have been using flash cs5 for a few years now and I've never been great with coding since i usually just do swf animations. However I am in the process of writing a story/book and I wanted to make a little guide for all of the dragons species in the story.
    Example: I had it so there is a title screen and a start button, you click the start button and you are taken to the next scene; which is a picture of a mist dragon I drew and then audio plays; describing mist dragons. in the corner there is a "next" button and when you click it, it takes you to the next species and the audio plays just like with the mist dragon.
    my major problem is my code is muffed up( I know it is totally incomplete, but this code is what I am comfortable working with, anybody know whaat the full code is?). I typed in what I could remember from class... could anybody help me?
    here is the code i remembered:
    Stop();
    btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK…
    function btn1Listener(e:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndStop(1, "mist dragon");

    use:
    Stop();
    btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,btn1Listener);
    function btn1Listener(e:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndStop(1, "mist dragon"); //<- you may want gotoAndPlay(1,"mist dragon")

  • T400s Linux/Windows dual boot with Linux from Esata Flash Drive

    This project is about a dual boot Windows/Linux system without using the normal dual boot changes in the bootloader of the windows hard drive. When I started this I found bits and pieces of information on the web but no complete description so I wrote this post.
    I have done a dual boot system on my previous Thinkpad where I had partitioned the hard drive between Linux and windows. For this project I wanted to leave the windows hard drive absolutely intact and unaltered, and boot Linux from a flash drive in the esata port on the back of the T400s. Obviously this uses the F12 boot list function key to boot from the flash. The advantage of this is that Windows is totally unaltered and when I need Linux, I plug in the esata flash drive, hit F12 during the boot cycle and select booting from the esata flash drive. The reason for Esata rather than USB is simply speed. I have a nice fast Linux installation.
    I used the OCZ esata flash drive but suspect any of the alternatives will work. It did not need the accessory usb cable because the Thinkpad powered the esata flash directly.
    To boot from the esata drive I had to make the following changes in the bios
        I left the esata flash plugged in as I went into the bios
        Bios>config>Serial ATA and changed the Sata controller mode option to compatibility
        Restart and back into the Bios
        Bios>startup>boot - in my case the esata flash drive showed up as ATA HDD2 and was excluded from the boot order so I had to un-exclude it and move it to the point in the boot order that I wanted.
    Next I downloaded a linux installation iso and put it on a CD - in my case opensuse. Then booted from the CD
    From now on this instructions are specific to opensuse and yast but can be generalized to whatever Linux is being used.
    In my case yast came up with a good set of suggestions for automatically partitioning the flash drive but then crashed during the partitioning itself. So I rebooted and specified the partitions manually.
        A fat32 partition left as a partition which both windows and Linux could see (in my case about 20% of the drive) (/dev/sdb1)
        An extended partition with the remainder of the drive (/dev/sdb2) which contains the following logical partitions
        A linux Swap partition of 2GB (/dev/sdb5)
        A linux /home partition –the remainder of the drive (/dev/sdb6)
        A linux /root partition of 8GB (/dev/sdb7)
    Yast automatically suggested mount points of C,D,E for the windows partitions. Unfortunately because of the way the Thinkpad hard drive was laid out Yast had C assigned the ThinkPad Service partition and D assigned to the SW_Preload (or main windows partition). However there was an edit function that allows for the reversal of those mount points so that the windows C drive is mounted in Linux as Windows/C thereby avoiding confusion. I had already backed up and removed the Thinkpad factory install data so I did not have to deal with that. Yast suggested Windows/E for the mount point of the FAT32 partition on the flash drive, which I accepted.
    The yast install configurator made all this manual selection easy, and after the manual configuration the partitioning worked perfectly.
    Next step was Linux user configuration which went fine
    Next was booting.
    In the section management tab
        delete the windows 1 and 2 options (since we are not dual booting directly)
    In the boot loader installation tab
        uncheck boot from mbr ( this stops the install from installing Grub and dual boot on the windows c drive
        check boot from root partition (this installs grub and all associated files in the Linux root partition (/dev/sdb6)
    I believe that the correct procedure at this point is to click Boot Loader installation details which will bring up the Grub device map. In the device map there will be a line for the fixed hard drive (aka the windows drive) and a line for the esata flash drive. When the installer started up these were in hard drive and esata drive order. However when we boot directly from the flash the esata drive will be grub drive hd0 and the fixed hard drive will be grub hd1. The device map order needs to be changed to reflect this ie the esata drive should be first not second.
    I did not do this and ended up initially doing Grub command line editing to boot and later manually editing the grub files using information I had previously learned the hard way and through google.
    At this point let the installer go ahead and install Linux. After doing this it should come back and tell you to reboot. Do not do it yet because we need to install the MBR into the flash drive.
    I suspect that there is a way of doing this in Yast running from the Live CD but it was not obvious to me so I used the manual method that I have used before.
    Open a root terminal
    Mount /dev/sdb6 to /mnt/sdb6 (my linux root)
    Touch /mnt/sdb6/boot/grub/flag
    The purpose of this is when we go looking later at the grub command prompt we need an easy to find unique file
    Start grub and do the following
    #grub
                grub> find /boot/grub/flag
                    (hd1,5)    -- the result of the find in my example
                grub> root (hd1,5)   -- using the result of the find in my example
                grub> setup (hd1)   -- install mbr -- my example parameters - if you get this wrong you will trash some other drive!!!
                      hopefully grub announces success
                grub> quit
    Reboot and select the flash drive. In my case I still had the grub devicemap wrong and had to edit the grub commands during boot to tell grub how to find the correct partition and then edit them again after booting
    Typical linux install issues that we all always seem to have and can be solved with a little (or a lot of) google research.
    As I said at the beginning I now have an untouched windows installation and a nice fast Linux installation. I hope that this will be of some use to someone.

    Hi chrissh
    i tried this exact procedure... on the exact same notebook (T400s). However, as soon as I set the
        Bios>config>Serial ATA to "compatibility", I cannot use my default Windows installation! I immediately get the "blue screen of death".
    I doubt I did anything differently since this is the first step of your procedure and my laptop is brand new!
    any idea?

  • How can i load  microsoft SQL Server driver in the classpath ?

    Hi
    i need to have microsoft SQL Server driver in the classpath , how can i do that to run the following code :
    String driver = "com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver";
    Class.forName(driver);
    with best regards

    Just as information, if you need to load a JDBC driver dynamically without previously knowing its name (meaning you can't add it to the classpath manually in your startup batch), the following will not work:
    // register the SQL driver as necessary
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver());
    // connect to the DB by using the driver.
    String connString = "my_dbserver:1433;databasename=my_database";
    String strDBConnect = "jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://" + connString;
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(strDBConnect, userName, passwd);
    This is because the DriverManager.getConnection checks if the loaded class was loaded by the same class loader than itself. And for dynamic scenarios, you need a new classloader for the new classes.
    Above, the class will be loaded correctly, but getConnection will fail.
    This behaviour costed me several hours while developing a dialog for adding drivers dynamically, until I saw the reason.
    But a solution has been posted in the forums, which goes like this:
    // jdbcLoader is my individual class loader, you can construct it with the driver url
    Class driverClass = Class.forName(driverName, true, jdbcLoader);
    currDriver = (Driver)driverClass.newInstance();
    // problem: classes which were loaded in custom class loader are not recognized by DriverManager. So the following would fail:
    // conn = DriverManager.getConnection(...)
    Properties prop = new Properties();
    prop.setProperty("user", (String)paras.get("youruser");
    prop.setProperty("password", (String)paras.get("yourpwd");
    conn = currDriver.connect((String)paras.get("yourURL", prop); // this one works for all classloaders
    But in your case, it seems to be enough to add the file manually, as was described in previous replies...

  • [Solved] help needed with wireless setup (ralink 2860 driver)

    Hi,
    I'm new to Arch so please be gentle ;-)
    I recently upgraded hoping to find improved support for my wireless.  I now find that the kernel recognises and loads the appropriate module:
    [root@akoya ~]# uname -a
    Linux akoya 2.6.29-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Apr 8 12:47:56 UTC 2009 i686 Pentium(R)
    [root@akoya ~]# lspci | grep Net
    05:00.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2860
    [root@akoya ~]# lsmod | grep 2860
    rt2860sta 514808 1
    I checked over the kernel source and the rt2680sta module is the code from ralink cleaned up for the 2.6.29 kernel.  (I tried building the ralink release but it needs patching for 2.6.29)
    However getting the thing to connect using WPA is another thing altogether
    [root@akoya ~]# ifconfig ra0 up

    [root@akoya ~]# dhcpcd ra0

    ra0: waiting for carrier

    I'm not even sure if iwconfig is communicating with this driver (though I can find my router using "iwlist ra0 scan"):

    [root@akoya ~]# iwconfig
    ra0 RT2860 Wireless ESSID:"" Nickname:"RT2860STA"
    Mode:Auto Frequency=2.412 GHz Access Point: 00:21:91:FE:DA:97

    OK... to answer my own questions ...
    two questions:
    1. Does this mean support for the ralink driver is included by default or *not* included by default?
    It seems it means *not*
    2. If I uncomment this line then makepkg refuses to build the package because the config file's md5 is no longer valid.  How then am I *meant* to make modifications to the build configuration?
    right or wrong I used makepkg -g to generate checksums for my modified config file and pasted these into PKGBUILD.  It then builds happily.  After installing I can run wpa_supplicant with no args and confirm ralink is in the list of drivers.  Excellent.  But still no success.
    Two things I have noticed:
    1. wicd places quotes "" around my pre-shared key.  If I run wpa_supplicant from the command line and use the conf file created by wicd it reports the PSK as being unparsable.  If I remove the quotes then the file is parsed correctly.
    2. It doesn't solve my problem :-(
