Need debugging help: Why is JScrollPane auto-scrolling?

I'm trying to figure out why when I double-click on a cell within a JTable that's wrapped in a JScrollPane in order to open up another window, the JScrollPane automatically scrolls to the top.
Even when I update the double click operation to simply call setSelected(false), the JScrollPane still automatically scrolls to the top.
I added myself as a change listener to the scroll pane's row header view port, and captured the following stack trace.
I'm having trouble debugging exactly what is causing the following chain of events to fire. If I try to put a debug breakpoint on a method like EventQueue.invokeLater() that's probably initiating the following chain of events, I can't even get back to my application window from my IDE without having to dismiss all of the breakpoints that are reached.
If I try to follow through from the double-click to the actual JScrollPane auto-scroll, I get lost in a maze of Swing events that I can't navigate out of.
Any suggestions on how to appropriately debug this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for your response. I examined the code and nowhere that I can see is it calling either of those two methods.
At some point, it looks like something within my code or in the UI frameworks that I'm using is invalidating my JScrollPane. I'm having a very difficult time, though, tracking down exactly which component is causing that invalidation.
Short of writing my own JScrollPane so that I can capture the stack trace of calls to invalidate(), does anyone have any suggestions for debugging this further? I tried to use a conditional breakpoint in Eclipse 2.1.3 (Component.invalidate() where the Component is an instance of JScrollPane), but my breakpoint is never being executed.
Thanks,
Mike

  • JScrollPane Auto Scrolling for Teleprompter

    I am working on a piece of software to scroll text for a teleprompter. I have a class that scrolls the text that is in a JEditorPane nested in a JScrollPane. Here is the class that scrolls the text:
    package teleprompter;
    import javax.swing.JScrollPane;
    public class Scroll extends Thread
        JScrollPane scrlMain;
        public Scroll(JScrollPane scrlMain)
            this.scrlMain = scrlMain;
        public void run()
            int iPos = scrlMain.getVerticalScrollBar().getValue();
            for (;;)
                iPos += 5;
                scrlMain.getVerticalScrollBar().setValue(iPos);
    }My problem is that it is not a consistent, smooth scroll so that someone can read it. It is real jumpy, sometimes it will jump an entire page. For now, the speed of the scroll can be changed by making the 5 in "iPos += 5" a higher number.
    Is there a better way to do an auto scroll that is not so inconsistent and jumpy that anyone can think of?

    One of the characteristics of a teleprompter (at least in most Western languages) is that new text is always likely to appear at the bottom so, rather than worrying about scrolling, why not either:
    (a) Set the scroll value to 100% and add new lines to the end as and when required, or
    (b) Maintain the text array yourself and simply display it in a fixed area.
    It seems to me that the same technique could also be combined with text animation to display a line at a time.
    However, as I say, I'm no GUI expert, so feel free to laugh...

  • JScrollPane auto scrolling.

    Hi Friends,
    Basically I want text in the JTextArea added to the JScrollPane to scroll automatically.
    I have a JFrame to which I have added a horizontal JSplitPane. The Left side of the SplitPane consists of a JPanel with different components and the Right side consists of a JPanel with a JScrollPane containing the JTextArea which displays some Help/News etc.
    I want this text to keep on scrolling continuously, while the user does his work on the Left side, till me application exits.
    Please help me out on this.
    Regards,
    Ravi

    try this:
    JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(textArea);
    textArea.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(100,300)):
    scrollpane.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(82,250));
    I am not sure whether it will work or not in your case.but it does work in my application.Hope it works!

    As for your problem, I'm way out of my comfort zone here, but the source code for ClassInfoImpl would suggest that the 'value' method is being invoked on an annotation called 'XmlAccessorType'; and since annotations only came in with version 5, I'm wondering if you have some sort of jar/jdk/jvm incompatibility. You might want to check that all of these are in sync.

    I am new to Flex (been a CFer for years) and I am playing with Flex hoping to learn it. I just started messing with it and ran into an error right away. I am hoping somepone out there can point me in the right direction for this cryptic error message...
    Here is my simple Flex code...

    So what does that mean?

    Duh! Thanks....I should have noticed that myself. Followup question for ya...What I am trying to accomplish/build while learning Flex is create a simple AIR app that plays a stream from shout cast (the stream is located at the url I put in the click event). Are there any resources you can point me to that will guide me in how to accomplish this?

    Can a one please help me turn off auto play for Facebook the option is no longer in my  General settings  why is this ?

    And yet the link you posted only tells you how to do it on the Facebook App for Android. Nothing about the Facebook page is mentioned at all, or how to do it on an iPhone.
    With that said, and assuming you have the most up to date version of the Facebook App, you can now turn the auto play feature Off within the Facebook App itself.  Tap on the "More" icon on the bottom right, then scroll down to Settings->Videos and Photos->Auto Play. If Smart auto-Play is on turn it off. Then you can set the check mark on "Never Play Videos Automatically" which is the same as Off.

  • Why does the history/library window auto-scroll away from the previous point in the library?

    When in Firefox 23.0's history/library window when I am browsing it will auto-scroll to the top of "Today" page making it frustrating and difficult to browse. I do not seem to recall this being the case before. I disabled "auto-scroll" in options and this has not remedied the problem.

    Hello,
    Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
    *Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
    *In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
    *In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    *Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
    Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Debugging - need configuration help

    I also posted this in Advanced Techniques by accident...
    I need some help configuring my local development machine for CFBuilder debugging. CF application development is configured correctly, but I'm having problems configuring debugging settings for CFBuilder/Eclipse. CFBuilder is installed and connected to RDS, and the CF Administrator is setup to do line level debugging. I'm running Windows 7 x64 with ColdFusion 9 (using IIS).
    All my projects are in my "C:\Dev" folder, and each project contains a "www" folder, which is the web root for the project. So I've got my projects organized like this:
    C:\Dev
         TestSite
              design
              docs
              www  <--- web root folder
    I've created a ColdFusion project and mapped it directly to the "www" root folder. In IIS, the web root folder is mapped via a virtual directory under the default web site, and is accessed from "http://127.0.0.1/testsite"
    I configured my RDS Server, which works correctly, so I can see the databases on the server. Nice. I also setup a server in the servers list in the coldfusion perspective and imported the settings directly from my RDS server. This one has the same name as my RDS server, which is "Local RDS Server." I also added a URL Prefix for "testsite" that is mapped to the local path: (C:\Dev\TestSite\www) and "http:\\127.0.0.1\testsite. And finally, in the Debug Mappings (preferences window), I specified "Local RDS Server."
    Everything seems to be setup, but I still cannot debug. Here's what happens:
    From the ColdFusion perspective, I right click on index.cfm and select "Debug As -> ColdFusion Application" The first time I do this, it switches over to the ColdFusion Debugging Perspective and loads "http://homepage/" and then nothing seems to work. In the Debug tab, it shows me that it created a new launch for my project as follows:
    TestSite
         Local RDS Server
              ColdFusion Template
    I can see my breakpoint in my breakpoints tab. But I can't seem to get any farther. I can't find a way to run to my breakpoint.The home page for the active debugging session is "http://homepage/" which is something that I don't understand. How do I make CFBuilder go to the correct home page for the debugging session? That might be the key.

    My previous post had to do with migrating an eclipse project over to a coldfusion project... that was my first one. I was finally able to get running under the debugger. Very nice!! I'm so happy to have a debugger available now!!!!
    I just started setting up my next project, but I'm stumped. When I right-click on this new project, and I go to properties, and then click on my ColdFusion Server Settings pane, I want to be able to specify the address to use for debugging, which I would assume should be in the "Sample URL" field. But the field is disabled and it says "Sample URL is not available. (Project is not in document root of server Local RDS Server).
    Local RDS Server is the local RDS server I setup, but I see where I specify a document root for the RDS server... I just specify a Host Name, which is my local IP address for my projects.
    Any ideas?
