Need help embedding a mp3 player swf with xml playlist

Im a noob to Flash (started tuesday, haha) and so far everything is coming along just fine, but i need to put music in the swf. I have a button set up that slides a swf mp3 player in from the side but i dont know how to make the playlist work with it.
The player is from this site:
http://www.bezzmedia.com/swfspot/samples/flash8/Mp3_Player_with_XML_Playlist
Using the xml playlist with html is simple enough, but im not sure how to use it with Flash Catalyst. Is there an easy way to do this?
My original plan was to have a text list of the songs with a play button next to each one, then when you click on the play button it would set the state of any other songs to Stopped so you can just pick what song to play and if another song was playing it would stop. Im not sure how to do this either (like i said, i started learning this week), so i just tried embedding someone else's (ugly) mp3 player.
Anyway, if anyone knows a relatively easy way to have a playlist in my swf please let me know. Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, you've imported a SWF into Catalyst using Import Artwork on the File menu. When your app runs, you want to pass that swf a parameter that tells it what URL to read a data file from. The SWF is not one that you've created, rather, you got it from some web site.
This is not something that you can do in Catalyst. However it should be possible to do in Flash Builder. I found an article discussing several ways to do it, at http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showthread.php3?t=175951. One idea is the following code snippet
<fx:Script>

import flash.events.*;
private function setVars(event):void
event.target.content.yyyyyy = "zzzzzz";

</fx:Script>
<mx:Image source="xxxxx" complete="setVars(event)" />
where "xxxxx" is the path of the SWF (you can put it somewhere in your Flash Builder project, or reference it via an URL), and yyyyy is the name of the parameter that the SWF expects, and zzzzzz is the path to the data file. The
tag is what Catalyst created when you imported the SWF. (btw.the Image and SWFLoader tags are almost identical).
I hope this gives you enough info to make progress.

• Need help finding Ideal MP3 Player for my company to give as xmas gifts to our clients

The company I work for is planning on giving away 50 Mp3 players to large clients--primarily because we started our own podcast site with daily Metals Updates ( investment company). http://podcasts.gbtg.net/ I picked up 2 Creative Labs Nano players, and found the setup was lengthy, and far from foolproof--if you are not very careful, the Nano would fail to be able to play the wma podcasts you push in from your PC. Worse still, I can not find a way to easily show cleints how to do an auto synch type of function, so the they can just plug the Nano into their PC at night, and yank it out the next day with the newly updated podcast in it...it would also be nice to delete podcasts older than 3 days or so.... Tech support suggested I try the sniffer function, which of course I had already activated---there was no discussion of how to use this functionally for podcasts. Does anyone have suggestions in Mp3 players better suited for this purpose, or for better software than the Windows Media Player or the Creative Media software they provide? Thanks, Dan

Thanks for the reply. The 2 units I picked up are Zen Nano's. While I understand they are supposed to function much like external hard dri'ves, and that is a simple matter to just drag files from the PC to the Nano "dri've", when I did that, the wma files ( the podcasts) would show in the Nano lcd, but they would not play. However, after installing all of the software ( both Creative with sniffer, and the Nano Explorer) the Nano player began magically playing the podcasts.... I had the same experience of two separate PC's, with 2 separate Nano's. I don't really know what specifically made the Nano's play the wma files--if it was the Nano Explorer , if there was some driver that loads when you get the Nano Explorer.... I don't think it was the larger Creative MediaSource software with sniffer---on one of the Nano's I purposely did not load the Nano Explorer initially, and when using the Creative Media source to push the files over, it still failed to play within the Nano. You could easily play the files from the nano, on the PC through windows media player--as if they were on a firewire or USB dri've. But the Nano needs to be able to play the files itself away from the computer. Maybe the nano explorer helped--maybe their was some auto loaded codec that finally arri'ved with the time online... I have no idea.
That's strange. Are the WMA files licensed? If they are you have to copy them with MediaSource or Windows Media Player.
Back to the media sniffer....What I need is relati'vely simple instructions I can send to my clients ( a largely novice computer user base, with essentially zero exposure to MP3 players...they are investors, not generation X'ers :-) The podcasting concept appeals to all of them, but I need to make it very simple to pull the MP3 player out of its Xmas box, plug it into the PC, and have it auto update. We can pre-configure each MP3 Player we send out--if there is a brand where this would help. With the Nano the hardware does not have any pre-config settings that will help. So I'm back to looking for a software ona CD that will install simply and make this auto podcast download a reasonable function for these clients to be able to handle. Making them choose folders, set the folders as a library, then set the deletion dates for old files, and the synchronization behavior in general is too much work for people who have never done any of this. Once they experience the podcasts for a few days or weeks, they will be incentivised to learn "advanced" configuration proceedures---but I don't want this to begin this way.
Really all you have to do is enable the Media Sniffer, and if the files already go into the default directory then nothing else.
Then you would also need to sync the player with the PC, which is essentially just following the syncing process.

i have an old disc that runs on flash player 5 how do i import it into itunes.. thank you

If that link does not allow you to move the iPhone to what is essentially a different computer from iTunes point of view then there is no way to do it. I don't know why, but if you explain what issues you had trying someone may be able to help.

• Need Help new Nano mp3 player, not really sure how to use it

I cant get any music on the player, im using morpheus downloaded files, is this a problem or is there a way for me to reformat them or what. Im new to this so i really have no idea what to do. Thanks.

What format are the files in? As far as I can see Morpheus is a P2P file sharing program, not a specific file format so it depends on which files you download. The Nano will play mp3 and wma files.
As long as they are one of these types of file you should be able to download them to your PC and then drag'n'drop them onto your Nano using Windows Explorer.

Hello which cable do I need to connect my mp3 player to all the speakers. Thanks

Sounds like you have a bad or weak battery in your player. How are you playing your music? Are you using wins Media player or another player to play your music? Do you have the orginal Creative Zen V Plus CD Installation Driver? You might try and uninstall the drivers and reinstall them again. Just some things to think about. I am having a problem w/ my Zen V plus. Read my Post about my problems. (Help w/ Zen V +) Keep posting here for help. ODIE

• Need help Connecting Crystal Reports 8.5 with GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c

Need help Connecting Crystal Reports 8.5 with GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c. I need assistance on connecting these together so I can run a report. I am not an IT person so if someone could dumb it down it would be great.
Thanks,
NBGHealth

Hello,
I assume GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c is some sort of database or data source? If you have an ODBC driver then create or use a System DSN to the database. Then you can create a report using that DSN.
Otherwise I suggest you contact the makers of GBS Agency Expert 6.7.6c and ask them how to connect to the database.
Let them know CR is ANSII 92 ODBC 3 compliant.
Thank you

• SWF with xml and css to flv format..need help

I have slideshow that is your typical stand alone .swf with accompanying .xml and .css configuration files along with a folder for the images. I don't have the .fla
I need to flatten this or merge it all together to create an flv. Is this possible and if so how do I do this?
Because this is a client I can't just re-create another slide show..it needs to be exactly the same. For me to redo it entirely in fla would be so very time consuming as the slides have 2-3 different effects each and to get the timing exactly right would be near impossible.
I hope someone has a magical solution for me.

Actually Rob, right after posting I came across a post mentioning screen
recorders and tried 5 of them. However, I am either not using the right
settings or the progs I tried weren't good enough cause all of them have
some freeze and jump during recording and the vids don't come out smooth. I
think this may be because although they allow you to set frames per seconds
for recording, they all vary that setting during the actual recording. I can
see the frames per second going from 18 to 12. I am not really experienced
in video.
Here's the list of those I tried: CamStudio, Free screen recorder, BB
Flashback2 express, BSR screen recorder 4 and ZealSoft.
If you happen to know of a really good one or what the right settings might
be I'd be glad to hear it.
By the way, so far, you seem to be the only one who got my question
right..all other replies I got from varying forums tell me to google swf
converters.
Thanks bud.

• Rsync/unison to/with mp3-player, problem with permissions

Hi,
I'm trying to sync my music database with my mp3-player via rsync or unison, but both complain about the mp3 being a read-only device (It's detected as a FAT32 harddrive, btw.).
The interesting thing is: It is not mounted read-only. I can copy music onto it just fine via e.g. thunar, only the two sync programs complain.
What could be the problem?

The error messages are variations of:
rsync: chgrp "/media/path/to/file/on/mp3" failed: Read-only file system (30)
Seems like it's permissions-related, so maybe I should get rid of the "keep permissions" option implied in rsync -a. I'll try that and the udev rule, thanks.
Another thing: Unison takes AGES to check for changes (and I do mean ages, ~10s per file). Is that normal?
[edit:]
Another error:
rsync: mkstemp "/media/path/to/file/on/mp3/*.ogg.w7qqip" failed: Read-only file system (30)
I haven't played around with the rsync-options yet. I tried the udev rule though, didn't help. One thing is strange: the rule sets gid=100(=users), but all the dirs/files on the device are <mylogin>:root owned. Shouldn't that be <mylogin>:users?

• Embedding an mp3 player in flash site

Hi
i am trying to figure out how to embed an mp3 player in my flash site. do anyone know of any good tutorials. I have no really actionscript skills.
thanks
Will

Thanks Ned!!!
Ok, I'm going to look into the Actionscript 2 music player options out there.
One question, incase I have a hard time finding what I need, would it be too difficult to have a text box open a new window, and in that window, have all the HTML music player? I found this site and I'd be OK with something like this:
http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/2005/02/23/mp3_embed.html
My only criteria would be to not have a download file link and that it would stream. Just curious if this would be an option since I've had such terrible luck trying to figure this whole music thing out.
Thanks again, Ned!!!

• Help! My MP3 player Died and I'm trying to recover my song

Hi Guys, I don't know if you'll be able to help me but I thought it was worth a shot.
I had a pretty ancient MP3 player (The creative Nomad Jukebox Zen USB 2.0). It basically stopped working (it wouldn't switch on or charge). However it had all my songs on it which i'm trying to gett off the hard drive and put onto my computer.
I've taken out the hard drive and I've put it in a little hard drive case that i bought off Ebay which i connected to my PC via USB. It seems to be recognising it as a USB mass storage device but when i go into My computer there is no additional drive. Below are the details of what I am using
My MP3 player

The hard drive Case

Any help is much appreciated

your best option would be to find a replacement player, and swap the hardri'ves.
One of the things i've seen countless times on here and other forums are people desparatly trying to find a way to rescue their music as they only have it stored on thier mp3 player/portable device.
With hard dri'ves being relativly cheap, as well as other storage methods it seem odd that people rely on portable devices as their only storage for their digital files.
It doesnt matter how well you may 'look after' yourt mp3 player, at the end of the day ts a portable devices, and will be subjected to some knocks and bumps along the way as well as a multitude of other risks ( ie accidentaly dropping it down the toilet, spilling beer in/on it and so on)
All of my Music is backed up on my P.Cs main hard dri've, and everything on my P.Cs hard dri've ( including the music) is all backed up onto an external USB hard dri've that is stored in another location to my P., also i have another back up on DVD RW of my music files.
Hard disks are cheap, as are adaptors/caddys to plug them into a USB socket, DVD RW media is cheap, your data files are irreplacebale, make sure that you have a back up[ of your stuff.

• MP3 Player .swf Won't Play in Dreamweaver

I've made a Flash mp3 player that plays just fine when opened alone. But when I put it into Dreamweaver, only the images appear, but neither the script appears nor the music plays?
I've moved all associated files into the same folder in Dreamweaver, including the xml file, etc. Any idea on what I can do to make this player work?
Thanks!!!

The best guess I can hazard at the moment is that you are missing some other files (possibly swf's or image files) that the index.swf file is trying to load.
If you do have other files that it loads and you have placed them where you believe they need to go, can you explain that arrangement folder-wise?

• FLV & SWF player with XML Playlist

What I want is to create a player that can handle SWFs and
FLVs or just FLVs, that load from a XML playlist.
Now I have seen the tutorial (Creating a Dynamic Playlist for
Progressive Flash Video) url:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/prog_download.html
But this populates a list that you have to click to play the
next movie, but I want it to play swf1 or flv1 then 2 then 3 and so
on, then loop. But I can't find a tutorial for this anywhere?
Any ideas, I need a detailed tutorial or a working example?

I recently made something like that, but then my project
consultor, made me change to use only flv files.
The project is going to be an internal tv channel for a
university, here in Portugal. First I thought of mixing SWF and
FLV's together, but then it required that someone that used the
system, knew how to program SWF's, because you need to change a
flag (variable) at the end of the playback of the SWF. This change
of flag status indicates that this SWF is over and pass to the next
entry of the playlist. Without this, I think that you would never
know when to go to next entry. so, the code resembled a little like
this:
if ((_root.percen_tx.text == "100%") || (_global.over == 1
&& _global.tipo[_global.num]=="1")) {
_global.over = 0;
_root.percen_tx.text = "";
if (_global.num == (_global.filmes.length-1)) {
_global.num = 0;
switch (_global.tipo[_global.num]) {
case "1" :
loadMovie(_global.filmes[_global.num], _root.swf_cont);
_root.descr_tx.text = "";
_root.percen_tx.text = "";
break;
case "0" :
_root.contentor.my_FLVPlybk.contentPath =
_global.filmes[_global.num];
_root.descr_tx.text = _global.descr[_global.num];
break;
} else {
_global.num += 1;
_root.percen_tx.text = "";
switch (_global.tipo[_global.num]) {
case "1" :
_global.over=0;
loadMovie(_global.filmes[_global.num], _root.swf_cont);
_root.descr_tx.text = "";
_root.percen_tx.text = "";
break;
case "0" :
_root.contentor.my_FLVPlybk.contentPath =
_global.filmes[_global.num];
_root.descr_tx.text = _global.descr[_global.num];
break;
A brief explanantion:
_global.over -> 0 (not over); 1 (is over)
_global.tipo -> value that comes from an xml, and
indicates if this playlist entry is a SWF or a FLV (they go to
different MC's);
_root.percen_tx -> Indicates the percentage of the FLV
file that was already read. "100%" is over
This is not the most efficient way to do it, because you can
use listeners and so on, but at the time I abbandoned this, at this
stage. Now it's only FLV, and only a few lines of code.
You can see the project at www.ipvctv.com
Hope it helped a bit.

• MP3 player just with Spotify for running / gym

Bring spotify to the gym or running!!!!
It would be great if there was a mp3 player like the Ipod shuffle but just for spotify. You connect the mp3 player with the computer or via Wi-fi and get your favorite playlist on the device.
All mp3 players on the market that can do that and have those features are too expensive or too big .
We NEED a spotify mp3 player ASAP. I need to work out with my spotify playlist!! :)

I've just thought of the same thing (thought I was being original! :P)! Having to carry a heavy and expensive phone around on a run made me think of a longing for a smaller and simpler device which just did music. I don't want to call or play angry birds on the go!
Would be good if there was an option for mobile connectivity (3G/4G), that way it wouldn't have to be linked to a computer to have access to playlist - and would be open to spotify free customers too. The way of this working would be to have it included on existing phone tariffs. You just pay for the device and it can be included on your plan. Would obviously need cooperation of mobile service providers.
Maybe there could be variants also, some that stream music and some which store music in the device- in keeping with the philosophy of spotify.
it would be cool to have a device that is spotify only (with branding on it etc). ..
i envisaged a circular device which had the play/pause button on the main face of the device (indented slightly so it's easy to distinguish and use) and the volume adjuster working as the bezel (like a watch chronograph adjuster) - you could be very precise with adjustment and would fit seamlessly in with the design.
I would have it in matte black so it's discreet with the spotify logo on the front main face (acting like the play/pause button).
It would be important to make sure it's simple and intuitive to use so you don't have to look at it to use it. It would also be able to be priced competitively.
BUT, the fact that an iPod shuffle can be used to sync with spotify sorta covers this issue.... Just... However, My issue with the shuffle is the fact that you have to use controls on earphones to use it that is frustrating at times (if you don't have earphones which have that capability!). Having the button on the device opens up the options to everyone.
ive even thought of a name for the thing: Spotifygo (or SpotifyGo)
:)

• Creative mp3 player compatibility with PFS car au

I was wondering if the "Plays For Sure" compatible Creative Players will work with the PFS compatible car audio receivers from Kenwood and Alpine. I'm mostly wondering about my Zen Xtra, but I'm sure others would like to know if their players would work also. Is Creative pursuing testing this, or should I just assume that all PFS works with all other PFS?

I purchased music from iTunes, but there is one
problem, I can't play it on my Creative Zen Vision
MP3 player.
Yes, you are right.
I even burned a CD with
the music, and it won't play on my car stereo??
You must burn a CD-Audio to play it in your home/car stereo.
If you also want to play those songs on your Creative player, once you've done the CD-Audio you can rip it again in MP3.
