Need help saving image to SQL as BLOB, then sending as email attachment

Hi folks,
These forums have gotten me most of the way through this particular project, but I'm finally stumped...
First, I'll describe exactly what I'm trying to do: the user chooses an image file client side and the server-side code then converts it to binary data and saves it to SQL. Then as a separate step, an email will be sent out with that image file loaded from the DB as an attachment.
So I've actually got most of this working. I'm using the O'Reilly MultipartParser class to pull the file input stream from the Request and insert it into SQL BLOB column ("image" datatype). I can successfully send Text attachments by simply converting the binary data back to a string and then using a subclass of DataSource (ByteArrayDataSource) to feed it to the mail object.
After getting the text documents to work, I then moved on to trying to send images.
I tried to send images using essentially the same technique as sending text. The image file gets saved to SQL the same way and I then convert the binary data back to a string an attach it. The only difference is that I set the content-type to "image/gif".
I didn't really expect this to work, however, I am able to "Preview" very simple Gifs (in XP) that I've attached. I cannot "Open" them, though, and I cannot even "Preview" more complicated Gifs.
So on to my real questions. I didn't really expect that you could simply output binary image data into Text format and simply slap on a ".gif" and expect it to work. Am I right about that? XP's "preview" option seems to read it okay, but I really need to be able to "open" these files.
So basically I need to know what to DO with that binary data in SQL in order to successfully attach it as a true image file. Is this an encoding issue? MIME type?

While the file I'm getting from SQL as an attachment looks like this:

Obviously, the question marks are unknown, but I'm not quite sure why. I outputted the char values as integers and found that the first question mark is 65408 and the second one's value is 65529. Obviously something is getting changed somewhere in the process, but I'm not quite sure how and where.

Nevermind! Of course, I figured it all out after writing that long post.
I had tried using a byte array instead of the String in the ByteArrayDataSource and it hadn't worked. However once I cleaned up the code a bit I got it working.

If u haven't resolved this issue yet, I just did.
What I did:
1. Toggle the hold switch (turn it on and off)
2. Reset to 'Disk Mode'
by pressing the 'Play' and center buttons
simultaneously
(it may take a couple of trials to get it right)
3. Update iPod with latest iTunes in Disk mode.
4. Incase the 'Can't find firmware' error msg is displayed,

Data type for Saving Image in SQL database

Which is the best way for saving images in the database? Filestream or Varbinary(max)?. Will the Varbinary max comsume much space or it will only take the actual size of the data?

If you think that Oracle SQL Tuning Tools like SQL Tuning Advisor and SQL Access Advisor are not helping.
You might look into thrid party tools like Quest- SQL Navigator and TOAD.

Hard drive recently failed and iPhoto brings a -36 error when copying need help accessing image files

I recently updated my computer to mountain lion and after doing so my computer would no longer boot up. I took it to the apple store and they told me that the hard drive was damaged and needed to be replaced. They were booting my computer with an external drive and in doing so could access my computers HDD. Upon starting to drag and drop files to a new hard drive I started to get a lot of -36 errors. I proceeded to go go,e and create my own bootable thumb drive and try doing the same process with more time to look through it. I have up till now been able to copy most of my files but have run into a problem with iPhoto.
I have been searching around for a while now and have yet to find a method that helps me in my particular situation so I am now asking for help myself. I will explain what my current system of file recovery is and see if anyone can help me out.
I have since then replaced the HDD in my computer and purchased a SATA external HDD enclosure for the original drive. This allows me to still access all files and folders from the original drive. I have managed to recover a majority of the files but have recently run into a problem with the iPhoto library. Every time I try to drag and drop the iPhoto library to my new HDD it fails after "transferring" 2.02GB and tells me it has encountered a -36 error because some files cannot be read or written. I believe I am using iPhoto '09, I will check and confirm that later.
I am looking for a way to open iPhoto's library and access the image files it seems to be hiding from me. Please understand that I cannot open the iPhoto library either, I have lost access to the library entirely and want to see if there are any image files that I can save. I dont have the computer backed up recently and want to save my photos. Thanks for looking and I'm hoping someone can help.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command). Rebuild it to the Pictures Folder. This might overcome the -36 issue.
(This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.)
Failing that you're into recovering your Originals from the damaged Library and creating a new Library and starting over from scratch.

Need help with image gallery and preloader

Here is my portfolio site currently. WWW.PALMEI.COM. When you go into the the galleries you can view the images; the images load and it's all working fine. But if I was to go back on the page before the image was to load the image loads later which is then in the way of everything and cannot be deleted or removed. What would a solution be for solving this problem. Also, my preloader is not working at all as you can tell.

Before the image loads if you were to click on the boy with the balloon"the back button" the image would than load later on say the"portfolio" part of the site.

Urgent - need help, Powerpoint images require quicktime???

Hi guys, I'm a lecturer and I prepared a powerpoint on my G5 to show to students last week. the text loads on the Dell PC they have in the classroom, but the images come up with a message "requires Quicktime and a decompressor". As far as I know these are just jpg files which I downloaded from google images as jpega. I then opened the jpgs in Preview and copied and pasted them into the Powerpoint slides.
what's requiring Quicktime here? How can I get around this e.g. by using "insert" for the picture and then clicking the picture to insert? More important how will I know that the umages have loaded as simple jpgs and won't continue to require Quicktime? I have to give a lecture on Monday and I need this Powerpoint to work!!!

This is the type of code it has a hard time getting the image
becuase it doesn't have a regular IMG tag.

Is there a way to modify this code to make it be able to look
for the backround: url?? I am thinking that woul help it.. It knows

How difficult is it for you to do a google image search for large images of this subject?
While you appear to be doing this project for an educational endeavour and can get away with mild copyright abuse as "fair use", you probably should not expect the participants in this forum to 1) work for Disney either as a direct employee or as a contractor and 2) offer their copyrighted work for free.
If you really want to impress a teacher and a future employer, you would use your own art. Why dont you create your own movie concept? Suppose you and your classmate are up for the same employment position. Who do you think will get hired if you show work that is not all your own, while your classmate has produced all of his/her own work?

Need Help with Formula using SQL maybe

I need help! I work with Crystal reports XI and usually manage just fine with the Formula editor but his one I think will require some SQL and I am not good at that.
We are running SQL 2000 I think (Enterprise Manager 8.0) Our sales people schedule activities and enter notes for customer accounts. Each is stored in a separate table. I need to find activities that are scheduled 240 days into the future and show the most recent note that goes with the account for which that activity is scheduled.
The two tables, Activities and History, share the an accountID field in common that links them to the correct customer account.   I want to look at dates in the Startdate.Activities field more than 240 days in the future and show the most recent note from the History table where the accountid's match. I figure my query will contain a join on AccountID.Activities and AccountID.History used with Max(completedate.History) but I do not understand how to word it.
I would like to perform all this in crystal if possible. I humbly request your help.

You SQL would look something like this...

This method assumes that the History table has a HistoryID that increments up automatically each time a new comment is added... So a comment made today would always have a higher HistoryID that one made yesterday.
If I'm wrong and there is no HistoryID or the HistoryID doesn't increment in a chronological fashion, it can still be done but the code is a bit more complex.

I need help regarding scanning of image directly from scanner. Here is the scenario when the person clicks scan button on the webpage should scan the image and resize it and store it in some temp location. Is there any way i can do this. Any Help regarding this would be great!!!

Is this the senario that you are talking about?
