Need simple mute button using Checkbox

Hi, this is probably very simple (using MX04).
I've got an instance of a Checkbox called soundFXButton.
Simple sound effects are triggered in various frames, I want to
check the state of soundFXButton before playing each sound as
follows:
if {not{soundFXButton.selected}} {
soundFX = new Sound();
soundFX.attachSound("ANGELS_F.WAV");
soundFX.start();
When I publish I get the following:
**Error** Scene=Scene 1, layer=ActionScript, frame=1:Line 1:
'(' expected
Anyone see what I'm missing? I new to AS syntax. Do I really
need to create a listerner handler for something this
simple?

Never mind, I got it ... () not {}, duhhh.... ;-)

• NEED HELP Highlighting Buttons (using an overlay)

I am using DVD Studio version 4.0.2. I'm working on a menu and I have 2 buttons I need. A play movie and chapters button. How do you make these buttons highlighted when you simulate the menu? I know the tutorial tells you to import the "pre-made" overlay....but how do you make that overlay? Please help. Thank you very much
Jake

Hi Jacob
Welcome to forum.
You can make the overlay in Photoshop. Make whatever you want your overlay to be- lets say a box around your text- as a black shape on a white bg. Flatten your image, save it, then import into DVDSP. Drag it onto your menu but don't release the mouse until the drop down menu appears - drop it over 'choose overlay'. You wont see anything yet, don't worry - you need to draw in a button onto the menu that completely surrounds your overlay shape. Now the overlay shape can be highlighted and activated - the manual covers this in much more detail and is pretty straight forward.
Hope that helps
Cheers

• Mute button behavior in iOS 4.2.1

First of all, there needs to be an iOS forum.
Secondly, I don't like the behavior of the mute button in this most recent iOS iteration. When playing music through headphones, the mute button used to mute all other system sounds. No calls, no emails, no SMS alerts, nothing. It was bliss. I could mute my phone, play my music, and have an uninterrupted experience. It was basically converting my iPhone into an iPod, which I loved.
No longer. Muting with headphones doesn't mute anything. I can't figure out what the button even does while headphones are on. Now, in order to mute, I have to either turn off all the various sounds, or turn the volume down manually before plugging in my headphones, and even that doesn't mute the iOS alerts completely.
I'd like to see the mute button work properly again. I have no idea how Apple moves backwards with the most basic functions. It's getting so that every upgrade is dicey because one never knows what basic functions will break.
Has anyone else noticed this? If this is a bug, not a feature, maybe I should do a restore.

I thought of that and do that from time to time, but that's not much better than having to turn the volume all the way down before I plug in my headphones. That's a work around, and an inelegant one for an Apple product, since the mute button used to actually do something functional and well-thought out. I don't want to cut off cellular communication while I'm listening to music. I want my emails, SMS, and voicemails ready when I decide to rejoin the world. I just don't want to be bothered by it. And yes, I know I can have WiFi on while in airplane mode, which both helps and hurts the situation. If WiFi is on, I'll get alerts.
Thanks for the suggestion, though. I appreciate it.

• Create a Mute Button

Is there a way to create a "mute" button using iWeb v. 2.0.3? I want to create a button so that the visitor can click it and silence the sound playing from a quicktime movie. I realize they could click and drag the volume control down, but I'm looking for a simple button to turn sound on and off. Any ideas?
massachi

If you use the movie control, they can also stop the music with it. I was on a site recently where the music was rather annoying but he had an arrow pointing to the stop control and a little line telling people to click to stop the music. It was rather well done.

the mute button is a switch you need to flip, not touch. if you look at it and see color, its on.

• How to display checkbox within button using skin?

Hi,
I am trying to put checkbox inside spark button using skin. The button looks like -
I want the button to repond mouse event (which is any way responding), but I also want check box too should respond to mouse event when mouse pointer is over check box.
I am able to create button which looks like above. But when I move mouse pointer over button, the button look changed and looks like -
As can be seen that there is no check box. I need check box to be shown always in button and should also be clickable.
Do any one have idea how to solve it?

• How to add a mute button without using the default skin?

I want to use a mute/unmute button for my current project which does not use the default skin. I searched the web and found the following solution.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/163/2ed9f163.html
I followed the instruction and it works fine on single slide. The problem is that it does not carry through the whole project. If I mute the first slide, the audio is on again on the next slide. My mute/unmute setting doesn't go to the next slide.
Any one have a solution to this problem? Any help or tips are greatly appreciated.

Hi there
Did you pay close attention to step 4?
Click image to see larger...
Addtionally, your post reads as if you feel the mute button is only avaliable with the Default playback control set. Note that there are all sorts of options with the supplied playback controls that offer enabling a mute button.

• Need simple instructions to connect my piano to my mac using usb midi

I purchased a midi in/out usb connection for my Yamaha piano (clavinova clp120) and GB sees a midi device connected (in preferences) but I cant figure out how to use it...
I need simple step by step help.
Thanks!

ok, Let me get this correct...
Your piano is already hooked up to the mac via USB and Garage band sees it? correct?
Alright, now, when garageband starts it usually loads the profile for a grand piano or you can select "New Project" > "Piano". If everything goes well you should be able to select the "grand piano" profile and hit record, then you should be able to start playing , do you hear any sound??
If you want to use the LTP lessons then have your piano plugged in and start a lesson. As soon as it loads try hitting a key, do you hear anything??

• Using checkboxes as datasource of TileList - how do I then receive selected checkboxes?

I've been googling and searching for this and it should be simple I'd imagine... (I'm new to Flex so that probably doesn't help:)...
I have an array that I create using CheckBox components. I then use this array as the dataprovider for a TileList and then also create a CheckBox itemrenderer.
The issue I'm having is that, I thought if I went over the underlying checkbox array at a later point (say a button click) - that I'd be able to see some selected items yet none of them show up selected as I iterate over them (even though I've checked some of the checkboxes.)
I have an event on the checkbox rendererer itself and when it fires I do see the selected property set - It's just going over the whole array that I'm not seeing them set. It's as if the underlying dataset is not being modified. What do I need to do so that I can capture the selected checkbox items? (Is the issue something to do with the renderer being reused?) I'm thinking getting a handle to checkbox items from from a TileList would be somewhat common so any help/examples appreciated.
Below is the pertinent code:
[CODE]
dataArray is an array of type [B]CheckBox[/B]
<mx:TileList id="reportMetricsBox"
borderStyle="solid" height="100%" width="100%" maxColumns="3"
columnWidth="110" paddingLeft="0" textAlign="left" borderThickness="0"
dataProvider="{dataArray}">
<mx:itemRenderer>
<mx:Component>
<mx:CheckBox click="handleClick(event)">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import com.foo.event.CheckBoxEvent;
private function handleClick(event:Event):void {
dispatchEvent(new CheckBoxEvent(CheckBoxEvent.CLICKED, CheckBox(this)));
]]>
</mx:Script>
</mx:CheckBox>
</mx:Component>
</mx:itemRenderer>
</mx:TileList>
[/CODE]

Here's what I did to fix it...
in my item renderer click handler I set the data selected item:
private function onChange(event:Event):void {
dispatchEvent(new CheckBoxEvent(CheckBoxEvent.CLICKED, CheckBox(this)));
data.selected = !data.selected;
I'm assuming that's what I should be doing?

• T420 Mute button queues up unnaceptable amount of Kernel work

FAO someone from Lenovo - for the Driver dev team.
To reproduce:
Download DPC Latency Checker or LatencyMon
Run either utility
Hit the Hardware mute button on the T420.
Watch the DPC Latency Spike to around 4000 micro seconds. Same applies when unmuting. Also occurs when using windows mute option, because it lights up/turns off the hardware mute internal led.
I fail to understand why the hardware driver (simple HID device) needs to queue kernel work like this, it's a simple command that can be implemented using an inverted call pattern to tell other user mode programs (such as the on screen drawing device) that it was successful.
The Windows Driver Development Guidelines state that queued work should take no more than 100 micro seconds.
If someone (ideally a Lenovo driver dev) could pick this up that would be great. Thanks.

Confirm on W520, except around 8000 microseconds.
Could it be scaling with respect to visible core count? (T420 at 4, W520 at 8.)

• Satellite A660: Remark and a question about illumination/mute button

Remark:
Hi, I am a proud owner of a satellite A660-166 (3 days old) and I installed everything from scratch on the win 7 pro since I received my laptop with a home version (need pro for work)...I encountered some problems but this forum really answered all my questions :) Never found such a helpful forum for technical support. So I wanted to express my gratitude and my support for everything you do for the users :)
Problem: Well, it's not really a problem, more of a curiosity... I had some problems with the eco button at that point illumination/mute button was for mute....Thanks to you guys I found out what needed to be done, I reinstalled Flash card software and everything was working properly plus the illumination/mute button was for illumination now. I don't have anything against that, I prefer it that way, but I'm wondering how do I change that...I found some unanswered thread about using toshiba assistant and the illumination tab...Since my laptop is pretty new, I don't have an illumination tab, I was wondering how do I change the button to mute if I want to?
Thanks, keep up the good work!

It is nice to hear you found answers to your questions here. Many people here try to help.
Back to your issue: It is not easy to offer precise answer and I really dont know if you can change settings for one single button. I think it has something to do with registry entries but how to change it is another question.
If you use this button for illumination ON/OFF you can use FN+ESC for MUTE option so you will have both options that can be used using one single button or quick key combination.
Can you please test it and confirm it works properly?

Kind regards
Axel

Hi Axel,
if u need two radio buttons then insert child of type radio button .here is th simple example for creating and binding the buttons to selction key.
Example:
Assume that u r having 2 Radio buttons R1 and R2.
For this u create 3 attributes R1,R2 and Sel.
For the radio button R1:
set the element properties as:
keytoselect---R1
selected key --Sel
For the radio button R2:
set the element properties as:
keytoselect---R2
selected key --Sel
In implementation part :
public void wdDoInit()
//@@begin wdDoInit()
wdContext.currentContextElement().setR1("Pass");
wdContext.currentContextElement().setR2("Fail");
wdContext.currentContextElement().setSel("Pass");
//@@end
SO from the above code the default radio button R1 will be enabled.
If u want the second radio button to be default then change sel to
wdContext.currentContextElement().setSel("Fail");
so during run time when u select the first one automatically its selvalue changes according to the radio button's value.
*****Points Please......
