Need Suggestions for Student Computer Lab - Multiple Users on IWeb

I need some suggestions on how to best show students in the computer lab to save their Domain file to their thumbdrive. It seems some students are saving previous users Domain Files to their thumbdrives. There has to be an easy solution. Students are using IWEB for their Digital Portfolio projects and they are do to be presented in June. For some reason students are not saving their work before the end of class.
This is how I instruct them to save their work:
File Save
Open Finder, Click on Student User, Library, Application Support, Iweb, then drag Domain file to their thumb drive.
This way when a new student comes to use the same computer either a new domain needs to be created or they open the domain file in their thumb drive.
Suggestions Please!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!!

Thank you for the suggested forum. It seems so simple but students just don't get it. As a Lab Tech and not the Administrator, I can not install any programs.

or  school need to buy a license.

I don't see that anything would stop you installing the trial, though it is not for that and the license might forbid it, not sure. But the trial lasts 30 days and cannot be extended or repeated. You are expected to buy software used in teaching, though there may be academic discounts.

  • Sharing iTunes on a single computer with multiple users

    Greetings,
I have been troubleshooting a problem sharing iTunes on a single computer with multiple users that cropped up a few weeks ago and have not had very good luck.
Several months ago I successfully set up my wife’s G4 Laptop (PowerPC processor) so that we could share iTunes on that computer. I had just gotten her an “My Book” external hard drive (Western Digital). The iTunes Library will go on this new unit because the internal drive was running out of room. I successfully set the privileges, moved the entire library onto a “Share” directory and everything worked fine.
In this way, when I got a new CD I could add it to iTunes (under my login, administrator privileges) and she could access it (under her login) to listen to while working on the computer or using her iPod. This arrangement went well for quite awhile.
About a month and a half ago, when I tried to launch iTunes from my login I received this message:
“The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.”
I think the permissions must have changed when there was an update because my wife is pretty careful about what she does on her computer. Updates were the only thing I could think of that had changed since I had set her computer up. I also noticed that some of the iTunes defaults were different from the last time I had used it to add a CD.
So, I did some reading and went back through the motions of trying to set it up again. I re-formatted the My Book hard drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) added the files back to the external, reset permissions on the external hard drive. (Owners: System, Access: read and write - Group: wheel, Access: read and write – Others: read and write).
When I now launch iTunes under my login I get this message:
“The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.”
What gives? I am the original owner and have always had top-level privileges.
Can someone point me to any articles or clues as to how I need to set-up iTunes on a single computer to be shared by more than one user? Also, I am considering upgrading to the newer system in a few weeks, so if a solution for OS X 10.5 is available, that would work too.
    Tim

Was your wife logged into the libray at the time you tried to log in? I have had a similar problem and it was because another user was logged into the library when I attempted to. I got the permission denied banner.

  • 1 Apple TV 2nd Gen, Windows 7 Computer with multiple user accounts

The issue that I am having is I have 1 Apple TV 2nd Gen and Windows 7 Computer with multiple user accounts.
When I log onto my Windows user account, open up Itunes and turn on home sharing my Apple TV work perfect but if another family member switches to their Windows user account without logging me out, the home share shows up on Apple TV but it just says "Loading ... Library" and never loads.
If we switch back to my user account, restart iTunes, everything is fine. Is there a way to keep my home share active in ATV2 across multiple user accounts? All of my video is under my account.

You can home-share multiple libraries but only use one account at a time.

    hi vikrant,
You can a Cube at the reporting layer  which gets data from DSO and which has these 2 extra characteristics completion date and previous cycle along with other chars and keyfigures from DSO.
You can populate these  based on your logic in the field routine.
    Hope it helps.

  • Copying iBooks for iMac computer lab

We want to share free Common Sense Media iBooks to all users in a K-12 computer lab (21 iMacs running Mavericks) without the need to download them for each student from the iBooks Store.  I was able to copy the iBooks folder (xxxxx.ibooks) to a student computer, but was not able to open it through iBooks.   Is it possible to store iBooks on the computer hard drives so the students have access to them?

No, the books are tied to the Apple ID.
They have to download them from iTunes.

  • Need suggestion for new laptop

Hi, everyone I'm needing suggestions. I had a touchsmart tx2z however after nearly 4 years it has bit the dust couldn't be saved after its last crash computer would turn on but screen would stay black and ome of the keys like the caps lock would flash. Computer guys say my motherboard has gone bad.  I'm looking for another computer now but would like one that is similar to the hp touchsmart but does not cost a lot of money.

Here is the current line-up of HP Touchscreen Laptops. Prices start at about $650 and go up from there. $650 sounds OK to my for a touchscreen laptop, but price is a subjective item. If these are too rich for you, you could always look at regular laptops.

  • One CUP request for assigning role to multiple users

    Hi,
We assign roles to users in production only through CUP requests.. We use GRC 5.3
Here we have a case where we need to assign one role to  60 users in production(each user may have different  roles assigned in the back end) . I can raise one CUP request for all users using " multi-user" option in Copy request . But when we want to make a risk analysis , it will not show risks at user level as each user had different roles and may get different risks by adding new role.
Instead it will give risks if any for only that new role which want to assign. Our manager is not accepting as this is not giving complete picture of risks for each user when we add new role.
Please suggest me if there is any other way where I can make a risk analysis for each user when I created a CUP request for multiple users.
Or the only solution is to create 60 CUP requests ?? this would be too manual
    Regards ,
    jaags

    Raghu,
thanks for the reply, you are right as per the audit .But suppose if it is for 200 users ,creating 200 CUP requests will be impractical right.
there should be some solution for this , because there will be many situations practically where we have to assign roles to N number of users.
Is this possible in GRC 10 ? any idea ?

  • Need suggestions for office setup

My company has moved completely to Macs for our client machines. We have roughly 30 employees and all have either MacBook Pros, or MacBook Airs, so all laptops.  We have legacy PC servers, many of which can go away and a couple that are running software we need that can be P2V'd.
I'd like to get us off of Active Directory and moved over to a Mac server. I have a Mac Pro running 10.8 server, and I'm familiar with setting up, configuring and administrating OS X Server.
My question is about how I should structure our setup.  Things to consider are as follows:
We are an advertising agency, quite a bit of data, about a terabyte in our main share
    We currently backup to tape
Users use their laptops for personal things as well, this means iTunes libraries on laptops (I know, but we're a pretty lax / cool company)
We are doing in-house video work. Our video guy needs to keep the raw footage archived indefinitely. This has led to 6 terabytes in 6 months, and will not be stopping.
We host our email with Google Business Apps
Currently users have a local account and password on computer, Active Directory user / pass for shares, Google user / pass for email
We can currently have 4 x 3 TB hard drives in the Mac Pro and we have a 16 TB Drobo
What I would LIKE to do:
Move all data to OS X Server
Backup data to external drive that gets swapped weekly and stored offsite
Allow users to use their laptops for personal / iTunes things, but protect important data on laptop.  Ideally I'd liket to either setup home sync on server an only sync the Documents folder or something similar, or do Time Machine backups to server from each laptop but exclude lots of folders. I'd like to be able to keep important data on server, not locally on laptops, but not be responsible for their music etc., but not be a jerk and bring down the heavy.
I would like to have a separate solution for handling the video raw footage data, outside of day to day office data
I would like to consolidate as much user / pass info as possible, even if that means I can only consolidate the local user with a network account.  What would be the best way to migrate local laptop users to network accounts?
ANY suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  How would you go about setting this up?  It would be easy if I were starting from scratch, but I'm not. I need to implement the new way while preserving data from how things are setup now.
    THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!

I can certainyl see why you don't want to copy that amount of data. In that case you need to do the following.
Make sure an account for the user exists in Open Directory. This could be with the same or a different shortname.
You can set mobile accounts to be created (for laptops) and you can configure options to either sync or not to sync the users home directory. If they are as big as you say you want not to sync the contents.
On the laptop make sure you have a separate local admin account, not the users current account.
On the laptop log in as the admin
    On the laptop run Terminal
    On the laptop cd /Users
On the laptop mv (move) the existing home folder for the user to a new temporary name
On the laptop open System Preferences
On the laptop click on Accounts
On the laptop delete the users current account
On the laptop click on Login Options
On the laptop join the laptop to your Open Directory system (assuming it is correctly configured and running)
On the laptop reboot (just to be safe)
On the laptop login as the users new network login, assuming you have configured things on the server appropriately you will get asked if you want to create a mobile account.
On the laptop once it has created the account it will finish logging in to an empty account. Now log out.
On the laptop log in as the admin account again.
    On the laptop run Terminal
On the laptop mv (move/rename) the old home directory to the correct name for the account
On the laptop do sudo chown -R usersnewshortname usersnewshortname. This makes sure the new account owns all the old files.
All the above will move the users home directory from the old standlone account to a network account.

  • ITunes library on one computer with multiple users

Mom, Dad, and kids each have their own log-in to this computer. Mom is the main administrator and when we downloaded all the CDs to iTunes, it went to Mom's iTunes Library. Dad has logged in under his name and purchased items from iTunes store which are now in his library. We now have 2 separate iTunes Libraries. How can we make the iTunes library the same for both Mom and Dad?
Dad just got iPhone and wants to be able to sync his apps to his computer login as well as having access to Mom's iTunes library - it would seem to me that the easiest way to do this is to copy the library from Mom to Dad or somehow be able to have Dad share the itunes library. Can't figure out how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

To share an iTunes library among multiple users, put the iTunes library in /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes, and for each user, make an alias from ~/Music/iTunes to /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes. Set permissions on /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes (and everything inside it) to give each user read and write permissions, and you're all set. My wife have been sharing our iTunes library this way since 2005, without a hitch.
Also, you'll have to import the contents of one library into the other, to make one big library, which is an extra step, but there's no way to avoid this now that you have two libraries.
Here are step by step instructions:
    1. Figure out which library is larger, and start with that one. I'm going to guess it's Mom's. Log in as Mom.
    2. In the Finder, make a folder called /Users/Shared/Music.
    3. Move the folder ~/Music/iTunes (that's your iTunes library) to /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes.
    4. Select the folder /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes, and make an alias of that folder. (In the Finder, click on File->Make Alias.) The alias will be called "/Users/Shared/Music/iTunes alias".
    5. Move "/Users/Shared/Music/iTunes alias" to "~/Music/iTunes alias". Rename the alias to ~/Music/iTunes.
    6. At this point, check your work: start iTunes while still logged in as Mom. Mom should see her iTunes library, just as before, as if it had never been moved.
    7. While still logged in as Mom, go to /Users/Shared, select the Music folder, and give Mom and Dad read and write permissions on that folder and all its contents.
    8. Log out as Mom, and log in as Dad. In the Finder, move Dad's iTunes library from ~/Music/iTunes to the Desktop.
    9. As Dad, repeat steps 4 and 5.
    10. Now Dad should check his work, by starting iTunes. Dad should now see Mom's library instead of his own.
Congratulations! You now have a shared library. You not only share content, but all playlists, artwork, etc. As Dad, create a playlist, fill it with romantic music, and call the playlist "To My Beautiful Wife". Log out as Dad, and log in as Mom, and Mom will see the same playlist. Crack open a bottle of champagne.
But Dad's content is still in ~/Desktop/iTunes. You'll have to add it to your shared libary:
    11. Log in as Dad, and in iTunes, turn on the preference iTunes->Preferences->Advanced->Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library.
    12. Still in iTunes, choose File->Add to Library and start adding all the files in ~/Desktop/iTunes. They'll be copied from Dad's desktop into the shared library. Try importing a couple of tracks, and log in as Mom and confirm that both Mom and Dad see the imported content. (I myself have never done this, so I can't give you much guidance about importing, since I started our iTunes library as a single shared library from the very beginning. For all you know, you can just select every folder in ~/Desktop/iTunes and import everything at once. I would imagine you might have to futz around re-organizing everything nicely once you've imported all Dad's stuff, but once that's done, it's done.) Once everything is imported you can trash ~/Desktop/iTunes.
That's it. Any content you add will be instantly available to both users without having to sync or copy anything ever, because both users are always looking at the same library. (If one user deletes something it's gone for both users too, so be careful!) The only trouble you could possibly have are permissions issues, depending on how your system and users are set up. On my computer, after setting it up once, we never had to think about it again. However, we set up a separate account to be the administrator, and neither my wife or I have admin privileges. Since Mom is an administrator and Dad is not, you might find that OS X treats you differently when you create new files in your library. You'll have to try it and see. Good luck!

  • Need suggestion for USB Bluetooth Adapter for HP Z230 Workstation

I've just purchased an HP Z230 Workstation, with an I7 processor.  I need to equip it with Bluetooth capability so that I can connect the computer to an old Palm Tungsten T2.
There are gobs of USB 4.0 Bluetooth adapters / dongles on the market, but reading buyer's comments, they all seem to have some type of problem with compatibility or installation issues on something.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a USB Bluetooth adapter that has worked well with the Z230?

  • Need suggestion for choosing Java development enviroment

    Hi Evereyone,
I am new to Java Desktop Application.I need help on choosing proper Java technologies and development tool.
We have an existing CLIENT/SERVER based distributed control system, which was developed in C++(Server side) and VB(Client GUI).Now we are think of migrating the system to Java platform.
    Here is the outline:
We want to create web based application that will run on windows and linux (linux on embedded PC).
The application should be able to support 10 100 users at once accessing/editing database.
We will also need to create a communication server that will run on web server P.C. that will communicate tcpip to field panels/log to db, as well as allow web screens to send/receive commands with field panels etc.
Could any one give me some suggestion about it?
I am thinking of Using J2SE 5.0, including RMI, JDBC and Swing for GUI. As for field panels, may choose J2ME.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Thanks, zadok .
Actually, I don't have the system requirements neither. All I know is the following outline:
"We want to create web based application that will run on windows and linux (linux on embedded PC).
The application should be able to support 10 100 users at once accessing/editing database.
We will also need to create a communication server that will run on web server P.C. that will communicate tcpip to field panels/log to db, as well as allow web screens to send/receive commands with field panels etc."
It is a interview question, which need me to do research and give some suggestions. What I want to know is to figure out what kind of Java technology is necessary for developing this system because I want to make sure I head to right direction.
I know somehow it is hard to give suggestion based on this limited information.
One more thing I was confusing is the server-side architecture.
I need suggestion about sever side architecture:
    a. write a dedicated server-side program, which act
as communication server to monitor and control field
panel, also act as server-side applicaiton by using
RMI to communicate with Client-side communication.
    b. choose a general web server architecture. Put
everything in server side in Web Server, for example
Tomcat AS container, implementing the Communication
server as Web Service and the request from
Client-side go to Web Server first, then dispatch to
a proper web service. Why did you not include this information in the original question!
Why don't you just use Tomcat?
For your answer, "Why don't you just use Tomcat?", does it mean Tomcat without Web Service will be enough for this system development? Could you give me some detail about it?
    Thank you very much, zadok.
