Need table background image to resize

I'm working in DW MX. I have a subtle background image in a
nested table on my page. The pages will vary in height due to the
amount of content on each. I would like the background image to
resize vertically as the table expands vertically. I also don't
want the image to repeat. I'd be happy with a straight HTML or CSS
solution. Any advice?

Ain't gonna happen. There's just no way....

  • Cannot get an Apex HTML region with table with a background image to resize image to fit table

    I want to achieve this: Table whith background image but cannot get it to work in an Apex page with HTML region.
    Adding the following code to the html region:
    <table class="tableWithBackground" width="300px" height="200px" border="1">
        <tr>
            <td>
                <img class="tableBackground" src="#APP_IMAGES#Demo.jpg">

            </td>
            <td>
                World
            </td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>How are<br><br><br><br><br>you?</td>
            <td>I am fine</td>
        </tr>
    </td>
    Results in a page with a table but without borders (at his stage I have not yet uploaded the Demo.jpg). After uploading the Demo.jpg results in a table with the entire image placed in het first cell. After placing the class code in the CSS inline property I expected to see the result as is shown in the Table whith background image  demo. For some reason this does not work (the image is no longer visible).
    Can anybody tell me how to achieve my goal?
    Thanks in advance!

    This is a workaround. What's your real goal? Why do you want to do this?
    What browser(s)/version(s) are you using? All current browser versions have support for CSS3 background sizing which is the proper way to do this.

  • Tables & Background Images

    I am currently using Dreamweaver CS4. I am attempting to add
    a background image into a table cell. When I look at how to do this
    on the web, it says to select the Bg Image within the PROPERTIES
    PANE, then browse and choose a background image. My problem is as
    follows; the 'Bg Image' feature does not appear in the PROPERTIES
    PANE, only the 'Bg Color' selection appears. Is there a setting I
    need to set to turn this feature on in the PROPERTIES PANE?
    Thanks,

    No. You need to learn how to create a CSS style rule.

  • CS4 Table Background Images

    Trying to figure out how to code background images for

    Most likely there is a bug in your code. We'd need to see it
    to know.
    Your Properties panel looks fine.
    Anyhow, back up to the "Set table properties" section and
    read the comments

  • Inserting table background images [was: CS4 DW]

    Dear all,
    I've have trouble inserting the background images in a cell of a table. When I was using CS3 I had the options of selecting BG color or image, as well as choosing the border color.
    Right now in CS4 I can't even insert one in a cell, only color bg, and also editing the font size, color, type..
    Can anyone advise?
    Z

    CSS code uses a different syntax than HTML code.
    With CSS you can use a background-color: #FFF or a background-image (URL).  This can point to an absolute URL:
    background: url (http:yoursite.com/images/bg-image.jpg)
    or to an image in your  DW local site folder:
    background: url (some-folder-in-your-local-site/image.jpg)

  • Table background image

    I created a site with a table holding the background image.
    Other tables are within this containing the content.
    It works fine but if i use a .png image for the background i
    get a thin blue line at the top. see here:
    http://proof.outoffocusonline.com/
    (it is visible above contact).
    If i make the background image a .jpg or a .gif this problem
    disappears - that is with making NO other changes just the name
    extension.
    Any ideas why this occurs? and how can i fix it? - the image
    does not look nearly as good in gif form due to the shadow/glow
    effect. And jpg boosts the filesize by a lot.
    thanks.

    Does the PNG contain transparency?

  • Help needed making background image a clickable link

    Hi guys,
    I want to make the background of my site an advertising background where the background image is clickable.
    I've tried a few tutorials but none seem to be working
    What I've got is this as my CSS...
    #skin {position: absolute;
        width: 100%;
        height: 800px;
        margin-left: auto;
        margin-right: auto;
        top: 0px;
        left: 0px;
        z-index: -1;
        background-position: fixed;
    ...and this as my HTML...
    <div id="skin"><a href=""><img src="background.jpg" /></a></div>
    It kind of works but the link is only a thin strip either side of the screen for some reason and doesn't span the whole image background.
    Does anyone have any ideas as to where I'm going wrong?
    Thank you very much and hope to hear from you!

    This can be done relatively easily but it's not very pretty. You will need to use a full-size image for the background, unless you plan to repeat it and set the clickable container to exactly that size. See code and screenshot below. Tested in FF, Chrome and IE9.
    <head>
    <style>
    body {
        width:100%;
        height:100%;
        margin:0;
    #background {
        background: #000 url(your-background-image.jpg) no-repeat 0 0;
        display: block;
        height: 1280px; /* change to your image height */
        position: fixed;
        width: 1920px; /* change to your image width */
    #wrapper {
        background-color: #FFFFFF;
        border: 1px solid #333333;
        left: 50%;
        margin-left: -480px; /* half the width */
        min-height: 500px;
        position: absolute;
        width: 960px; /* wrapper width - unclickable area */
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <a href="" id="background"></a> <!-- This is your clickable background -->
        <div id="wrapper"> <!-- This is your non-clickable wrapper -->
            <header>
            </header>
            <main>

  • CS4 table background image?

    It's related to CS4's focus on VALID code usages and best
    practices. You
    should use CSS to specify all of your background images.

  • Table Background Images in CS4...

    This may sound like a really stupid question and I really hope there's an easy explanation... When I create a new table in dreamweaver cs4, and i click on the table and go down to the property inspector, the src file is greyed out. It's not allowing me to select an image to use as a background within my table. What am I missing? Please help!!!! Thanks in advance.
    BFM

    CS4 is trying to teach you get into good coding habits  :-)  Adding a background is a style it's not html, so the background needs to go into a stylesheet.
    I have an example here - with the ane example of css to use - see if it helps:
    http://www.dreamweaverresources.com/tutorials/pagebackgrounds/cellbackground.htm

  • How to get background image to fill the browser and remain fixed in both IE and Firefox?

    Basically what it says in the title. I've come very close in achieving this but something just doesn't tie up in the html and css code...
    First of all, I'm using IE8 and the latest version of Firefox to test this.
    I used 2 sources of information for getting this done: 1) http://css-tricks.com/perfect-full-page-background-image/ and 2) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8958697/css3-background-size-cover-doesnt-make-image-co ver-vertically
    In Case 1 the example on the page called CSS-Only Technique #1 gives code that works almost perfectly for me, except that obviously I need a background image, however the CSS provided there is clearly just for an image dropped in the body of a page with no regard for other content that may already be there. The html code that I put on the page is simply <img class="bg" src="../images/background_image.jpg">
    Obviously I used the CSS code provided in the example, minus the last bit which is "@media screen" etc etc, which seems irrelevant to me. Obviously substituting values to suit the image on my page.
    So what happened is that it almost worked as intended in both the browsers (which means the image filled both browsers width-wise as intended and also remained fixed when I zoomed in or out in each case) except that the image went over the top of the current content that I had there already precisely because it's not a background in this "technique". (A curious side-note is that the image didn't push down the content, as I'd have expected in normal circumstances, but went right over the top of it so it hid it (like z-index).
    One thing that does bother me about this "technique" is that if you click on View Demo just below the code provided you will see on the working example page (forest background) the image clearly works as a background and the content sits happily on top! So I don't know whether the person providing the example was trying to mislead people or what! Or he got lazy and showed a different page that didn't use the exact code he provided. No matter.
    In any case this leaves me with the job only half finished, as I still need a background image that works like the 'normal image' code provided.
    On to Case 2 and on this page the first example provided gives the CSS for the background image - namely the code within html {...} part and also shows the same 'normal image' code as given in Case 1. In this case however, although the person provided a suggestion, the css and html doesn't really tie up properly plus some of the css and html seems a bit redundant. So this time when I used the 'html portion' of the CSS code (i.e. just the bit that was most relevant) I got two different behaviours in each browser and neither of which was quite what I'm looking for. In IE8 initially the page looks fine (background fills the page and content is on top) however when I zoom in or out the background also zooms in or out accordingly so is NOT fixed. In Firefox the background image DOES stay fixed, however because the image originally is not the whole height of the browser I'm guessing the code stretches it downwards (while keeping proportions - so the image essentially enlarges) to fill all of it. The quick way to get around it is to probably add some white space to the bottom of the image just to give it enough height that it doesn't stretch/resize automatically. But it would be nice to find out anyway how to get around this in the code. Overall I would say that the result in Firefox comes closest to the desired solution but of course it doesn't help matters with IE8.
    Apologies for the lengthy description but that should at least provide plenty info for anybody that might have a possible solution for me. Essentially what would be great is if somebody could advise me how to take the code from Case 1 and apply it to a 'background' piece of coding like the type that's contained within html {...} in Case 2. Like I said, it's so nearly there but I just can't make it work atm after trying to combine the various bits of code this way and that... Alternatively, if somebody has another html-css version that works nicely for achieving this then please by all means let me know! Thanks v much in advance!

    This works in modern CSS3 supporting browsers.  But not pre-IE9.

  • Background images w/aspect ratio true and clipping

    I'm trying to create a site where the background image takes
    up 100% of the screen, minus a 30px border around the app.
    perimiter. The sizing method I'm trying to replicate is at
    http://www.letstakepictures.info.
    Notice that when the window is resized to any dimensions the
    background image:
    1) Resizes proportionately w/out distortion
    2) Maintains its aspect ratio at all times
    3) All other image information is clipped when the window is
    resized unproportionately i.e. 30% high 100% wide.

    The method of obtaining a 16:9 ratio explained within
    my last post (click here to view Part I)
    has left me with a distorted preview that is
    difficult to accurately achieve what I was able to
    without distortion.
    The timeing of all my keyframes has been effected and
    is hard to adjust due to the squished preview.
    Judging by eye, where to zoom and how it will affect
    the final output cannot be revealed until I've
    compressed the file and imported in DVDSP. Which I
    can then get a true preview within the simulator.
    Actually, the method described should have left you with an UNDISTORTED preview. Perhaps it wasn't the fix you needed at all. There is no way you should have to go as far as the DVDSP simulator windown to see an undistorted image.
    What you describe - viewing squished footage in FCP - means you have not set up FCP properly for the material with which you're working.
    Maybe best if you start again at the beginning, as there are no doubt some important details missing here. My understanding is you are trying to make anamorphic 16:9 DVDs incorporating still images and video footage (which may or may not be 16:9).
    The way to do this properly is to start out with an anamorphic FCP project and format your material correctly within that project, working with anamorphic sequences that will translate seamlessly to a 16:9 DVDSP project.
    It sounds, though, that some of your FCP sequences are still, in fact, 4:3.

  • Moving background images horizontally as a loop?

    I was wondering, if anybody knew a way to get a Background-image moving horizontally and without interruption as a steady loop.
    I tried using animated Gifs, but that takes too much ressources, as the file size grows too large.
    I was wondering whether or not I should have the Background Image replaced by a div with a flash in it, that is being looped. This alternative looks kinda dodgy to me, though and I don't want this to be integrated.
    I saw some sites using Javascript for almost similar effects vertically, but these effects didn't really work on various browsers (Seamonkey/Firefox), although they worked fine on IE and Opera.
    This issue is really driving me nuts right now. thanks

    Do the end users really want this would be the first question I'd be asking! Just because one can put a plastic pink flamingo lawn ornament in their yard doesn't mean one should.
    1) The simplest, most sure-fire way is with an animated GIF. I'm not sure I understand your filesize concern - how many frames of animation are you using?
    2) Javascript - take a look at jQuery and it's associated plugins for ways to create sliding effects. This approach will not use css background images but rather fake it using different divs carefully positioned via Javascript DOM manipulation. Animation would also be provided by Javascript.
    3) Flash. Again not really using background images because Flash doesn't work that way. The downsides are 1) it's Flash, 2) Will need to use wmodewith all the issues that entails 3) will likely require absolutely positioning elements to create a background effect with all the issues that *that* entails.
    I'd suggest rethinking whether you really need animates background images and then taking a look at jQuery though and some of the jQuery "animation" plugins that are available.
    Oh and one final approach would be to do this all in Flash.
    Hope this helps.

  • Virtual directory in region header background-image not working

    I created a region with a region header that needs the background image to repeat vertical as well as horizontal, so the class was changed to include repeat instead of repeat-x.
    So i replaced class t20RegionHeader with this:
    .t20RegionHeader {
    vertical-align: center;
    font-weight: normal;
    font-size: 9pt;
    font-weight: bold;
    color: #343434;
    background-image: url(/i/hdingBar-BG.gif) ;
    background-repeat: repeat;
    text-align: left;
    padding: 1px 8px;
    white-space: nowrap;
    border: 1px solid #a3bed8
    I put "/i/" in the background-image's url bacause I am referencing an image in the virtual directory but it didn't work. Please help!!

    <tt>center</tt> is not a valid value for <tt>vertical-align</tt>: should be <tt>middle</tt>.
    Firebug reports "Failed to load the given URL" for <tt>/i/hdingBar-BG.gif</tt>. Does this image exist at that location? (Are you talking about apex.oracle.com or your local environment? If it's the latter, check that the <tt>hdingBar-BG.gif</tt> image file exists at the location specified by the virtual directory <tt>/i/</tt> and that the permissions are set to make it readable.)
