No.  They're the same so just pick one.  They rarely go bad.

  • DMi information, need to find serial number

I was giving a toshbia satellite, It looks like a M305. I need to find the serial # to see what it is and check warranty. Before it was giving to me, they installed vista home prem OEM without the toshiba software. Is there a software that will let me see the DMI information?

Are the tags on the bottom mising?  They would contain the information you seek.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • How to restore a Macbook Pro after hdd failure?

    Hi!
My girlfriend posted a question about her MB Pro mid 2012 which apparently had a HDD failure; she was instructed to take a TimeMachine backup and switch a new HDD/SDD to replace it. Well, I started the TimeMachine copy, but unfortunately the computer crashed; now the computer starts, but keeps spinning the rainbow wheel while trying to log in. Any advice on how to proceed? Can the data be recovered? Can I do it somehow and if I wanted to change the SDD which she bought, how do I boot the computer without TimeMachine backup? Can it be done?
Normally this woudn't be such a huge problem, but unfortunately she needs to read for an exam AND write an academic text. Of course I could lend her my MB but unfortunately I have to do the same....
Solutions? Sorry couldn't find answers so I thought it easiest to just ask plain out straight.

So as a continuation, since she keeps asking, can I go ahead and just download the Yosemite from Apple Store and install it on the new SSD or will it fudge up the laptop again? The things I heard had something to do with kext or TRIM or something like that. Now keep in mind I'm no nerd, so I'm not up to full speed on how SSD and Yosemite work together.
It depends upon the SSD.  Here are a couple of excerpts by a trusted colleague of mine in a conversation regarding SSDs and other storage devices.  (I do not have an SSD)
    Also read this:

Bottom line is if the SSD does not need trim, then install Yosemite.  If it does, do not install Yosemite.

  • De-activate and re-activate after HDD failure

Hi, as above computer has a fatal HDD failure, so I can't access Photoshop Elements 11,
how do I de-activate and re-activate on the new HDD install? Thanks in advance, Herman

Your PSE license is for up to two computers, so if you only had it installed once, prior, just install and activate it again.  If this new computer would be the third computer, then you’ll need to contact Adobe Activation Support via chat to deactivate your old computer on their server.

Just received 2 iphone4s- one with 16G and the other with 32G.  Spouse got excited and in handling both phones during unboxing, I have no idea which is which.  I am afraid of activating the wrong phone on the wrong number.  How do I find the phone serial number before I activate the phone?

It shouldn't matter, assuming that you bought the phones using those accounts, the phones will only activate on the number for the account the phone was purchased under, if you try to activate the phone using the other number, it will refuse to activate

    Hello oblivious123,

This Apple support document describes a few different places you can look to find your iPod's serial number, including in iTunes, if and only if it was the last iPod that was synced on that computer. Hope it helps.

  • Moving Photoshop Elements and Organizer to a new PC (after HDD failure)

    Hi all,
My PC died recently, and suddenly. Thankfully I had a drive backing everything up so I have a complete mirror of my harddrive on an external drive. I have now bought a new PC and have installed PSE9 (with PE9 and Organizer) onto it.
I would like to be able to rebuild all my catalogs and albums, and have all my keywords etc, in my new installation, using the files I have in my back-up drive. There are thousands of photos, going back about 10 years, and it took about three solid weeks to tag them all and fix their dates etc.  Can someone please tell me which files I need to copy over into my new installation, and where they should go? The drive names on my new machine will probably be different to the ones I used on my old machine, but beneath that all files are in the same folder structure as they were on my old (now dead) machine. The dead machine ran Vista, and I'm now on Win7.
Please let me know if there's any further information I need to provide.
    Thanks in advance.
    DNL

Where I am not clear is why a full drive backup (that includes a copy of the catalog, using a 3rd party drive backup tool) led to a situation where the catalog info could not be completely restored to a new PC.
Let's have a look at the result of the complete restoration of a drive.
    - Case one : There has been a mirror copy on the second drive
    - case two : you have a clone of your disk (I supose it's uptodate at the time of crash...)
    In both cases:
The media files are all identical.
    The catalogs are identical.
    But... there is a difference.
A cloning utility is also able to restore the original drive serial number used by Windows to recognize the different drives.
In the mirrored drive, the serial number is different from the original one.
the catalog contains for each media file:
    - the full path : root folder/subfolder 1/sub-subfolder... file name with extension.
    - the identification of the drive (serial number plus drive letter)
When the Organizer reads the data in the catalog and wants to access a file via the operating system, it will find all files in the clone, and all files in the the mirrored version will be missing. Then you need to reconnect as mentionned in a previous post. And that's a lot of painful work
So, assuming your mirrored version is strictly ok, the catalog is fooled by the change of drive serial number. You can either have Windows to assign the old serial number or use an sqlite management software to edit that information in the database : catalog.psexxdb.
What I don't know is if the background processes in charge of the accessory jobs of the Organizer (watched folders, face recognition, autoanalysis...) will be correctly restored in a crash situation. So you might lose some information or have to wait for the Organizer to rebuild some of the missing information.
My suggestion to backup also the catalog was to avoid a situation where the user has a syncing software in charge of the media folders only. You are right that the catalog was also backed up in the case of the original poster.

  • Op System restore after HDD failure and replacement

    Hi,
I have an old dv9000 laptop with XPPro factory installed SP2, since upgraded to SP3. The hard drive failed (80Gig Seagate). I checked with the bios setup test, it said "fail" and I checked by booting from the CD drive the windows install disk. It said, no hard drive found. SO I bought a larger 1T byte drive (same mfr Seagate, same rpm 5400) and installed it. I have a network backup drive (Seagate Black armor) and I was able to restore the last backup. The cd drive booted the recovery disk for that program, the hdd light flickered and it seemed to be doing something for 3 hours, then said it was complete.
But the new drive will not boot. I read on this forum and the common recommendation was to use the System Recovery disks that came with the laptop. I dug through the boxes in the garage and found the system recovery disks and my 14 cd's made for system restore. :-) pays to keep junk sometimes. But I tried the system recovery disk and it will not boot up in the cd drive. I get a blank screen with the cursor in the upper left blinking. I went back to try the Seagate recovery disk, and now, it will not boot up either. I tried removing the new HDD. and with or without a cd in the drive it gives the message "No Op sysytem found." SO I think something has affected the CDdrive. But interestingly with the cursor blinking <cntrl><alt><delete> will reboot the machine, so maybe some part of the op system gets loaded.
It's an old machine, old op system. I shopped Hp store and only Windows8 available now. SO I'm either forced to the bleeding edge with all the new bugs and learning curve or I try to get this old machine going. Other things I've tied, hard reset, restore bios defaults.
Any thoughts you may have will be appreciated.
    This question was solved.

    Hello,
The laptop is back up and running with the new hard drive, Yay! and a new cd drive.
Here's what it took, for anybody who ever has the same problem:
The CD drive was bad. The nearest local supplier on the list that hp parts support gave me had a suitable replacement. I installed that, and the system restore disk booted and ran immediately.  I decided to check and see if the windows install disk would run and restore the sytem since I believed I had already restored the whole C: partition. It booted up but did not find the hard drive. It gave an eror message that said no drive found.  I went back to the hp system restore disk and ran that. It took several hours reformatted the disk (deleting anything I'd already put on) and rebooted itself many times. Eventualy it came up with a windows desktop. It was as the factory installed 5+ years ago. I installed the Seagate back up software and ran that. It seemed to have more options running in windows than it did running directly from the cd boot. One of the options was to restore the MBR. I had to look up what that was, Master Boot Record. I figured it should be restored. The full C: restore from backup process took another few hours, but it finished and gave an operation successfull message.
Then I rebooted and got the windows logon screen, logged in and got my desktop as it was at the time of the backup. Success.
In the future I'll look for that MBR restore, maybe it was there and I missed it the first time. I have a slight nagging worry that maybe something else caused both drives to fail at almost the same time. But, I'm not going to fuss with it. I'm hoping the machine runs well for a while longer.
Thanks to those who tried to help.

  • Network card no longer detected after hdd failure

So yeah, my laptop's hdd crashed, I cloned it to another.
It no longer detects my pcmcia card, model GCS2220.
I tried chrooting the install from livecd and reinstalling kernel, still nothing.
Odd thing is, before I chroot the card works fine, after chrooting ifconfig fails to work with eth0.

Did you bind (mount -bind olddir newdir) /dev and mount /sys and /proc (I mean that's the place wherefrom ifconfig gets its information ) from the livecd's environment into ur chrooted environment ??
