Need to restore database....
Hi,
I am seriously stuck with my oracle database.
My oracle database has completly crashed but I have the physical file available in oradata folder, can I restore my database using this file in any ways.
Please reply ASAP.
Thanks In Adavance...
well you know that by now but it wont work ...:)
you can try and recreate the control file.
create (or delete the new database ) a new service using the oradim util
in windows
copy back the backup files from backup directory to the original ( or other)
copy the below into a scripts (*.sql file) - adjust all the path and names according to you database ( those in < > ) and try to run it form sqlplus.
any way keep the backup files.
STARTUP NOMOUNT
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE <your database name> RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG
MAXLOGFILES 16
MAXLOGMEMBERS 3
MAXDATAFILES 100
MAXINSTANCES 8
MAXLOGHISTORY 2726
LOGFILE
GROUP 1 < log file full path between ' ' > SIZE 10M,
GROUP 2 < log file> SIZE 10M,
GROUP 3 <log file> SIZE 10M
-- STANDBY LOGFILE
DATAFILE
< all your data files, tablespaces goes here with full path each >
CHARACTER SET <your required character set >;
hope will help you

Need to restore database to last week
Hi,
I am running 10g on Linux, and last week someone messed up a database and it needs to be restored to 27 December.
I am not a DBA, out regular DBA is on vacation till mid January, I have been tasked with this because I am the next most knowledgeable person (which is not much!).
I know we have archivelog on (I can see .arc files for the database), and I also have a backup of the actual data files and control files from when the database was first created. So in other words, I have all archive files and the initial data files.
What i do not know is how to set the restore till December 27. If someone could help, that would be appreciated.
PS, I know the DBA uses RMAN too, so maybe that can be used for this?
Thanks.user8973806 wrote:
So would I need to use RMAN then, and I cannot do it using just sqlplus?
Do you know of an example in some blog or something where something similar is done?
Please note, I am not using any tape drives, I will be copying the original datafiles to the box and so how will RMAN know where the original files are?
Sorry, I am not a DBA, and I have never used RMAN, and so I just need some assistance that is a bit more concise - reading all the manuals is not really feasible, I need some example that is similar to the problem I am encountering.
Thanks.Probably your best course of action would be to open an SR with Oracle Support and get them to help walk you through the process. There are a lot of details to be worked out and you don't want to dig your hole any deeper. The very first thing you want to do is shut down the database and copy all data files, all control files, all init and spfile to a safe location. To get a list of data files and control files
sql> select file_name from dba_data_files;
sql> show parameter controlThis will at least allow you to get back to where you are now if something should go wrong. -
Need to copy archive log file "arch1_601.dbf" when restore database?
Hi all,
I have the following case:
1) Full hot backup today (Feb-12-2009) in directory /u03/db/backup
2) But ongoing archive log are generated in directory /u02/oracle/uat/uatdb/9.2.0/dbs
3) I need to restore database becuase some data files are missing.
4) Use today ful backup to restore
5) Am I need to copy all archive log files in /u02/oracle/uat/uatdb/9.2.0/dbs to /u03/db/backup because "/u03/db/backup/RMAN" is restore directory?
FANHere is backup scripts:
Run
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/u02/db/backup/RMAN/%F.bck';
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 7 DAYS;
allocate channel ch1 type disk format '/u02/db/backup/RMAN/backup_%d_%t_%s_%p_%U.bck';
backup incremental level 1 cumulative database plus archivelog delete all input;
backup current controlfile;
backup spfile;
release channel ch1;
allocate channel for maintenance type disk;
delete noprompt obsolete;
delete noprompt archivelog all backed up 2 times to disk; -
Urgent -- need to restore table from full database backup
Hello,
Can somebody tell me the process for restoring just a table from a full database backup?
I did a full online database backup yesterday, and one of my tables got ruined today. I need to restore it as soon as possible, but I don't know how. When I tried flashback tables, it said that feature wasn't enabled. Should I restore the datafile or the tablespace?
Thanks much,
NoraIf you only want to recover the table and not the other objects in the tablespace, and assuming the table was damaged by a user statement (and not, say, block corruption), you would need to recover your backup to a different system, export the table that was damaged, and import the table into your real production database. If you can recover the entire tablespace to an earlier point in time, or if you can lose some committed changes to other database objects, you may have other options.

what permission is needed for a login to access the restored database(backup from different server)
frequently reach the situation, when vendor restores a database, but he cannot access it unless I remap or add his login to the restored database. What permssion can grant the vendor so that he can but only can access the database he restored, not all other
databases.Hi George,
According to your description, When you move a database from one server that is running SQL Server to another server that is running SQL Server, a mismatch may occur between the security identification numbers (SIDs) of the logins in the master database
and the users in the user database. As other post, you can use the sp_change_users_login stored procedure to map SQL Server logins. Also , you can use the following statement after doing the restore database. It will
fix the mis-mapped SID inside the restored DB.
ALTER USER <username> WITH LOGIN = <username>
For more information, you can review the following article.

I need explanation about RESTORE DATABASE PREVIEW SUMMARY;
After executing the command:
RMAN> RESTORE DATABASE PREVIEW SUMMARY;
It finished with the following lines:
Media recovery start SCN is 1487308
Recovery must be done beyond SCN 1726503 to clear data files fuzziness
Finished restore at 2008-04-30:17:13:59
What does it mean "recovery start SCN is 1487308" and "Recovery must be done beyond SCN 1726503..." ?
I would like to restore/recover untill a SCN... but I don't understand if it means I must set a SCN between 1487308 and 1726503, or 1726503 is simply a starting SCN ...
Below there's my list of backup by file with SCN:

Does it also mean 1726504 is the nearest scn compared with the time I finished to complete that online backup ???
I mean... what should I do to restore just that backup without applying current available archived log and online redo log ??? -
How can I determine what is the minimum SCN number I need to restore up to.
Say if I have a full database backup, I know I have file inconsistency, but I want to know what is the minimum time or SCN number a need to roll forward to in order to be able to open the database?
For example: I do a database restore.
restore database ;

I thought this query might provide the answer, but it doesn't

I've discover I need to apply archive logs until this query reports all datafiles as FUZZY=NO , but this only works by guessing at some time periord to roll forward to, then checking the FUZZY column, and try again. Is there a way to know, I have to roll forward to a specific SNC in order for all my datafiles to be consistent?
select file#

, checkpoint_change#
, checkpoint_time
, FUZZY
, RECOVER
,LAST_DEALLOC_SCN
from v$datafile_header
order by checkpoint_time
Thanks,
JasonThe minimum point in time is the time when the last backup piece for datafiles in that backup was completed.
Your alert.log should show the redo log sequence number at that time.
You can query V$ARCHIVED_LOG and get the FIRST_CHANGE# of the first archivedlog generated after that backup piece completed.
A
LIST BACKUP;in RMAN should also show you the SCNs at the time of the backups.
You can also query SCN_TO_TIMESTAMP -- eg
select timestamp_to_scn(to_timestamp('15-MAR-09 09:24:01','DD-MON-RR HH24:MI:SS')) from dual;will return an approximation of the SCN.

Where it says 'Estado' (Status in english) I found this: 'EXPIRED', it seems that my 4 dbf files have some problem, right now i'm looking for a way to solve this, but with no luck.
I think i need a little help again... -
Help is needed in restoring DB to new host
Hello ,
I posted new thread two days ago , but yet, haven't succedded in restore my DB from host A to host b .
I need to do a test case , backup database at 11:00 , make some changes , (create / drop tables , whatever ) , take incremental level 1 at 11:15 , make more changes , plus another incremental level 1 backup at 11:30 .
At the end of that , I should try to to restore the Database called DB1 , into host b , for the changes made before the backup of 11:15 (that is , set until time ... 11:15) .
the problem is that I sit on that thing for about a week ,
and each time get another error at the end of the process when trying to run :
"recover database / recover database noredo" .
Here is what I do in host a :

exit host a
Now I create same directories I have in host a , also in host b ,
I have my init.ora file from host a and put it in host b ,
and have all backups taken in host a , available in host b (got them through ftp) .
here comes my question , I look at the pdf books of oracle and do somthing like that in host b :
setenv ORACLE_SID DB1
% sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
SQL> startup nomount pfile=initDB1.ora
SQL> exit
% rman target / nocatalog
RMAN > set dbid 1206648960 ;
RMAN > restore controlfile from autobackup until time "to_date ('25-01-2007 10:35','dd-mm-yyyy hh24:mi')";
## to get back in time to the changes made before userb was created !
RMAN > alter database mount ;
RMAN > restore database ;
RMAN > recover database noredo ;
RMAN > alter database open resetlogs ;
I don't run the whole process in host b , cause the restore is written somewhere , and I don't know where , and in the next time I try to run the restore operation , I get another kind of error message , and have to start the whole thing from the begining .
what's wrong in my process ? it's either I got errors about my files that are older than the last time of the resetlogs , or the DB is recovered to its most current state , after the creation of userb .
please advice . what should I change in my process ? it has been 3 days that I fail to recover my DB , and all I do is taken from oracle tecnet or metalink site .
Thanks in advanced ,
Lior .I think I found what was wrong .
when I use restore controlfile until time , it means that if I wrote 13:00 the recover should be at least to 13:01 (for example) .
meanwhile it works , I'm going to do some more tests to be sure . -
I have several disparate Windows 2003-based database with limited storage and memory resources. Each database is running in NOARCHIVE mode. I have a need to backup the database prior to upgrades. If errors occur, I'd like to be able to restore the database to its previous state.
However, each time I perform a restore/recover, I see the updated data in all tables rather than the original data from the backup. Am I under the false impression that RMAN can restore data within the same database? Any help is appreciated.
I'll attach the scripts that made use of see if there is anything that I am missing.
CREATING A BACKUP
1. rman nocatalog
2. RMAN> connect target sys@ncr1
3. RMAN>shutdown immediate;
4. RMAN>startup mount;
5. RMAN> report schema;
6. RMAN> backup tag ncr178_pre_upgrade database;
7. RMAN> list backup;
8. RMAN> startup
RESTORING THE DATABASE
1. rman nocatalog
2. RMAN> connect target sys@ncr1
3. startup force mount;
4. restore database;
5. recover database;
6. alter database open;Rman will always try to recover the DB to the point of failure unless otherwise specified. If the changes made by you is available in the online logs(since your DB is running in noarchivelog), it will always apply that changes too while recovering.
if you execute the restore commands shown by you, RMAN will restore the datafiles (if any file is missing and backup is available), apply the changes (if available in the logs) and open it..
Rman is more suited for productin DB s where DB is running most of the time and in archivelog mode. In your scenario, I think, a cold backup is suited...

Use of Table Valued Parameter to restore databases
I'm a noob with table valued parameters. Not sure if I can use TVP for what I need to do. I want to restore/refresh multiple databases from arbitrary number of .BAK files. I can successfully populate a TVP with the needed
source information which includes:
Database name
File/device name (i.e., xxx.BAK file)
Logical data file name
Logical log file name
Now I want to create a stored procedure that contains Restore Database command like this:
RESTORE DATABASE <@database name>
FROM <@path and name of .bak file>
WITH MOVE <@logical data file> TO <new path and file name>,
MOVE <@logical log file name> TO <new path and file name>;
Can I replace those variables with the column values in the TVP? I'm not sure because all the stored proc examples I see simply insert rows from the TVP into rows of an existing table.Yes, but you would need to run a cursor of your TVP:
DECLARE cur CURSOR STATIC LOCAL FOR
SELECT db, path, logical_data_file, new_data_path, logical_log_file,
new_logfile_apth
FROM @TVP
OPEN cur
WHILE 1 = 1
BEGIN
FETCH cur INTO @db, @path, @logical_data_file, @new_data_path,
@new_logical_log_file, @new_logfile_path
IF @@fetch_status <> 0
BREAK
RESTORE DATABASE @db FROM DISK = @path
WITH MOVE @logical_data_file TO @new_data_path,
MOVE @new_logical_log_file, @new_logfile_pth
END
DEALLOCATE cur

Oracle will try the original expected backup location and then failover to the new (cataloged) location. To prevent it from trying the original location that is unavailable, you should also CROSSCHECK BACKUP ALL (and optionally DELETE EXPIRED BACKUP ALL) so that it would mark the original location (/backup/DB/rman/20130623...) as unavailable and not try it at all.

Need to restore a table which is del by mistake my archive log is on
Hi Guru's
i took full backup through RMAN. My archive log in ON.
After taking backup one of table is deleted by mistake ,how can i restore it ?
ThanksHello,
The solution depends on your Oracle Release and if you enabled RECYCLE BIN and/or FLASHBACK LOG.
If the Table was dropped and you are in Oracle *9.2* or earlier release, you need to Restore/Recover the Database (from the RMAN BACKUP) to a time before the Table was dropped, somewhere else (another server,...). Then from this Database you may export the Table and import it to the original Database.
If the rows of the Table were just Deleted (so the Table still exists), you may (in 9.2) use FLASHBACK QUERY to get back the deleted rows.
If you are in *10.1* or later release, then if the Table was dropped you may use FLASHBACK DROP to get it back (see the previous post from Kamran). If the rows were just deleted (so the Table still exists) you may use FLASHBACK QUERY or more efficiently FLASHBACK TABLE:
http://www.oracle-developer.net/display.php?id=313
About FLASHBACK QUERY, it depends on the Undo Retention time (it should be large enough), and the table shouldn't have Column of specific Datatype like LONG or LOB:

Hope this help.

Restore database to another host - I have only rman backup files
Hi all,
The PC where Oracle was installed is crashed.
I have only the RMAN backup pieces in other computer.
I want to restore/recover this RMAN backup to other PC.
I know the commands, restore database, recover database,
but I've always used these commands with rman into existing rman
user. Now, I don't have anything. I have only the RMAN backup files.
How can I restore/recover database to other PC using these files?
The steps are? create other database, create a rman user, register
the rman backup files in this new rman, and restore these files
in this new database already created with the same name?
thank you!!!!XM wrote:
