Need to upgrade my OS X 10.6.8 to 10.10; Do I need to go incrementally?

Afternoon, I need to upgrade my Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to the latest OS (Yosemite 10.10).  Do I have to do it incrementally, or can I do it in one upgrade?  I have the following specs:  2.66 Hhz Intel core 2 Duo, @GB 800 Mhz, DDR2 SDRAM.

Provided that you have enough Ram (you didn't state how much you have, but 4GB is a sensible minimum) and at least 20GB of drive space you can upgrade straight to 10.10.3

  • Need help on incremental backup

    Hi,
I am running a rman backup using 10g DBCONSOLE. I selected level 0 backup and it's running. this is the command.
    >>
    backup incremental level 0 cumulative device type disk filesperset = 5 tag 'BACKUP_DHAVA.SOS.S_081507014538' database;
    >>
my question is when should run my level 1 backup?? can i run every week level 1backup and run level 0 back every 4 week?
if i want to recover in what order should i recover??
    thanks

can i run every week level 1backup and run level 0 back every 4 week? There's no fix rule. But I would do a level 0 backup more frequently, let's say once a week. And a level 1 backup the other days. Otherwise a restore/recovery could run very long.
if i want to recover in what order should i recover??You don't have to care about this, RMAN knows which backups are needed in which order. Restore process starts always with a level 0 backup, afterwards it reads all needed level 1 backups and the following recover process applies the archivelogs.

  • Help needed in auto-increment in Oracle SQLPlus

    hi everybody
I have a table in which the id column should be autoincrementing. Whenever i insert a row in the table, the id should be autoincremented. How to create the table in Oracle SQL Plus. I insert the row using JDBC connection. So how to insert the value for id in java program.
    Thanks in advance

How to use Oracle SQLPlus has absolutely nothing to do with Java or JDBC; you should ask this question in a different forum, such as one of the Oracle database forums, here:

  • Need advise: upgrade from 7.1.6 (Pro) to 7.4.5

    Hello.
In the past there have been times when upgrading led to a desperate need to downgrade. I have been very happy with 7.1.6 Pro for some time now and don't want to fix what ain't broke.
(same goes for iTunes. I have 7.1.1 and am reluctant to move away from it to current versions)
So what I'm asking is: any opinions, advise about leaving QT 7.1.6 behind; and if I do upgrade, can I jump all the way to 7.4.5, or do I need to do it incrementally?
(I am in Mac OS 10.4.11, using a Mac Pro. No immediate plans to go to Leopard.)
    nÔÔdle--hëad

Newer version of QuickTime allow the newer features in iTunes be used (movie rentals and such).
If you don't need them and are happy where you are then stay there.
You don't need to update incrementally and your Pro status will remain after the upgrade.

  • CUE 3.x to 7.x - Upgrading - need new license?

When upgrading from CUE 3.x to 7.x, is a new license file required if there are no mailbox count changes, etc.?
For exampled - show software licenses:
    Installed license files:
    - ivr_lic.sig : NULL IVR LICENSE
    - voicemail_lic.sig : 12 MAILBOX LICENSE
If mailbox count is unchanged, will the upgrade process convert the licenses when doing a software install upgrade?
    Cheers.
    -Robert

    Hi Robert,
Beginning with Cisco Unity Express 7.1, a new type of license called CSL licensing is supported. With CSL licenses, the mailbox license count includes both personal mailboxes and GDMs. The type of the mailbox is determined when it is configured. Also, the call-agent is no longer specified using licenses and can be configured either as part of post-install process or during bootup.
    Obtaining Migration Licenses
Note There is no cost to obtain migration licenses for CSL.
    Required Information
To obtain CSL migration licenses you need to have the following information:
•The SKU for the features that you need.
This is the information that you determined in the "Selecting which Features You Want" section.
    •The Product ID (PID)
•The Serial Number (SN) from the device.
    Using the Migration Portal
Note You must have a CCO password to access some of the URLs in the following procedure.
Follow these steps to obtain a migration license for your existing Cisco Unity Express 7.1 features:
Step 1 Go to the licensing portal at www.cisco.com/go/license and click the link at the bottom of the page to go to the license migration portal.
Step 2 On the router that is running the features that you want to migrate, enter the show inventory command to see the corresponding product IDs and serial numbers.
Step 3 Enter the appropriate product ID and the serial number and click Continue.
The product ID is the type of Network Module that you are using, such as AIM-CUE.
Step 4 Use the drop-down menus to select the product family, product, and feature (SKU), then click Continue.
For the product, use the SKU that you determined in the previous section for the features that you want to migrate.
Enter your registration information, including your company's name and e-mail address, then click Continue.
Step 5 Verify all of your license information and click Submit to receive the free CSL upgrade license file by e-mail.
Step 6 Repeat the appropriate steps above for each device that is running features that you want to migrate.
Step 7 Copy the license file(s) to a FTP or TFTP server.
Adding More Mailboxes, Ports, IVR Sessions, and TimeCardView Users
When you buy licences for additional features on Cisco Unity Express 7.1, the licences are available only in the increments shown below. These licenses are the same for all supported devices. See the Release Notes for Cisco Unity Express 7.1 for a list of supported devices. The following types of licenses are available:
•Mailboxes (available only in increments of five)
•Ports (available only in increments of two)
•IVR (available only in increments of two)
•TimeCardView users (available only in increments of one)
The corresponding SKUs for these licenses are:
    •FL-CUE-MBX-5
    •FL-CUE-PORT-2
    •FL-CUE-IVR-2
    •FL-TCV-USER-1
To determine the total quantity of licenses you need, multiply the incremental quantity from the name of the CSL license with the explicit quantity of increments that you want to purchase. For instance, FL-CUE-MBX-5 represents an incremental quantity of five mailboxes. If you select an explicit quantity of four for the FL-CUE-MBX-5 feature, the total quantity will be five times four, or 20.
Using CLI Commands to Install Licenses
After you obtain a license file from Cisco's licensing portal and copy it to a FTP or TFTP server, use the following CLI commands to install the license. Only the use of FTP is shown below.
    SUMMARY STEPS
    1. license install ftp://username:password@ip_address/path/license_file
    2. reload
    3. enable
    4. show license all
    5. show license in-use
    6. show license status application
    From this excellent doc;

  • Questions about upgrading from Exchange 2010 RTM to Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3

I am preparing to perform an maintenance upgrade on our current Exchange 2010 Server, to Service Pack 3 (and any post-SP3 roll ups), but I have a couple questions about the process.
    Current Exchange Server details:
    Exchange 2010 Standard
Version: 14.0 (Build 639.21) - from Exchange Management Console
Version: 14.0.702.4000 - from Outook client
Active Directory forest and domain levels: Windows 2008 R2 native
    The questions I have are:
    1.  Can I assume that because it's version 10.0.702.4000 I am on Exchange Server 2010 RTM Update Rollup 4?
    2.  Can Exchange 2010 Standard RTM be patched directly to Service Pack 3, or would I need to perform incremental patches (i.e. SP1, SP2, etc.) before going to SP3?
    3.  Do I need to manually perform the AD domain schema prep before applying Service Pack 3, or will the Service Pack 3 update process automatically handle the modifications of the AD schema?

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. Firstly, I’d like to explain , we can use connection status to check our Exchange server version from Outlook client:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/determine-the-version-of-microsoft-exchange-server-my-account-connects-to-HA010117038.aspx
And I check my version from both EMC and Outlook client. It’s same.
    2. We can directly update RTM version to SP3 , and the update will take an additional 30 minutes or longer per database.
    3. Since Exchange 2010 SP3 makes updates to the Active Directory schema, we need prepare AD domain schema. However, it will automatically prepare AD and the domain when you install the update.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:

  • How to upgrade to a specific firmware ersion

    Hello,
my ATV is currently on 2.0. I would like to upgrade to 2.02 to patch it. However Apple released a new firmware (2.1) today.
    How can I upgrade to 2.02 ?
    Thanks,

There are often pros and cons to updates that you can't fully evaluate until you've reached the point of no return, then of course it's too late...
I suspect the OP didn't realise you don't need to do incremental updates and could just get the latest...

  • Replace old server (NW5.1) instead of upgrading-migrating ?

    I have a small, mixed environment. Currently, one tree, 3 servers: 1: NW6.5SP8/OES, 2 & 3 : NW5.1 SP8
In the near (-immediate) future, I'm upgrading the NW5x servers (definitely), and possibly later the NW6.5/OES server to OES11.
One of the NW5.1 servers is being replaced - I'm trying to use OES 11 ( from the SLES+OES overlay disk) .
I need -nothing- other than the server name/id and IP address of the old machine. No data, no users.
I've cleaned up the old server ( say #2) - removing all file partitions except SYS, and all users except Admins. Old stuff like print queues, etc as well, using C1.
New migration server is set up per Novell docs, as a migration target, on same subnet, in same tree. --also on brand new hardware.
The migration tool ( set to migrate server ID) hangs on checking eDir; (not exact) ' source server is using eDir 8, which is not supported. Migration project will now terminate.'
Can I ( easily) remove the old server from my tree, and just install the OES11 server with the same name & IP address?
What can I do to avoid confusing/corrupting the eDir replica ring while I do this?
Or - as I suspect I will need to do for the other old NW5.1 ( #3)... do I need to make incremental upgrades - say to NW6.5SP8 first ?
On that server, I will need to preserve users, groups, and file systems when I move it to the new hardware 'home'.
Thankfully, the only uses on these two old boxen are file access and user authentication.
    for detail;
    Server #1, NW6.5 SP8 / OES (master replica): server version: 5.70.08, eDir 8.7.3.10 SMP, NDS 10554.34, DS.nlm 10554.34, DSRepair 10551.81
    Server #2, NW5.1 SP8, (moving name/id only to new hardware): currently server 5.00.11, eDir ( * 8.7.3.4), NDS 8.85c, DS.nlm 8.85c, DSRepair 10550.86
    Server #3, NW5.1 SP8 (planning move of all users & file systems): server 5.00.11, eDir ( * 8.6.2.6), NDS 8.85c, DS.nlm 8.85c, DSRepair 10250.42
    * eDir versions not directly given in DSRepair tool, instead I used TID Support | Table of eDirectory versions , and the stated version of DSRepair.
Both servers #2 and #3 are old and ornery; I treat #3 like an old, nasty cat - and only give it _careful_ attention when needed.
For now, please let me know what shortcuts / - pro/con about just killing the old server #2 and replacing it with a brand new hardware-software clean slate?
I'll ask for more help ( or pay a consultant if needed) when that time comes for the others.
Thanks for reading, and for any advice.

Worse, it's NW5, so you can't talk to it with IP, and your destination
    server can't do IPX.

I think that's really all you *can* do at this point.

Remove the old server. Install the new one.

Users and Groups are in eDirectory, so they'll be "preserved" by the fact
that you're not replacing the tree.
File systems - oy. You're probably also going from TFS to NSS here.

  • Leopard to Snow Leopard can i use a large flash drive to backup first?

I've been using Leopard for 4 years with no problems.
Since Google decided to stop support for Leopard, and I use Chrome a lot I decided to upgrade.  I won't be upgrading to Mountain Lion right right away. I ordered my Snow Leopard disks from Apple.
I understand that I need to backup.  I want to backup with Time Machine before I upgrade the OS, but I don't have $75+ right now to purchase an external hard drive for this purpose only.
Can I use a large Flash Drive to run Time Machine?  Like a 32 GB?   I know that flash drives have a limited number of writes on them and can go bad, so I am thinking I could just use it this one time to make sure I have a clean backup.  If this is possible, then can I set up Time Machine again later when I have an external drive?
Also, I have 2 cores on my Mac, but I have no idea how to use the 2nd core.
I'm also not sure if I need to purchase a specific external drive because I have a mac.
    Thanks for the help.

If you only need to make a full backup prior to upgrading, I would suggest using SuperDuper, which for creating a full, bootable clone is free. (It is not free when you start needing to make incremental backups, but you won't be doing that, at least not right now.) For a bootable clone, you only need a Flash drive (or external drive) as big as the total size of the utilized space on your hard drive right now, not as big as whatever the entire drive size is.
In the past, I would have recommended Carbon Copy Cloner for this, but it's no longer free or donation-ware and you don't have the budget for both that and some kind of external or Flash drive.
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
You might also want to look around newegg.com for inexpensive USB external drives, or even large enough Flash drives. You'll probably find a much less expensive external hard drive than a Flash drive for this purpose.
You do not need to use Time Machine, but even if you did you could just make one full backup to a Flash or external drive and then unmount and disconnect it. An external for TM only needs to be so large because it's constantly taking snapshots of your drive and those add up. But you won't be using it that way.
Anyway, I think you're much better off with a bootable clone, should you need to restore that.
Don't worry about having 2 cores; that's nothing to do with backing up.

  • Secunia & Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.3.1

    Hi,
According to Secunia, my updated version of Adobe Acrobat Extended Pro 9.3.1 is insecure.
I have clicked on the Download Solution button on Secunia to obtain the latest Adobe Acrobat Version. After loading the latest version, I still have the following information.
Secunia points to the following file: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.dll
And reports that my version is: 9.3.0.148
Yet, when I fire up my Adobe Acrobat Extended and then go Help | About, I see the version is 9.3.1.
When Adobe updates Acrobat, does it leave insecure files behind?  Is there anything I can do to ensure that my version of Adobe Acrobat is completely secure?  How do I get Secunia to recognize my updated and, I hope, secure version?
    Sincerely,
    Kevin

    Hi Bill,
I suspect that its latest version 9.3.1 is secure, at least for now.
My concern is that, for whatever reason, Secunia continues to think I have a prior version (9.3.0.148).
I had a similar problem with Flash.  To solve my Adobe Flash problem, I used an Adobe uninstaller to completely remove Flash and then reinstall the latest version from Adobe web site.
I can't do that with my Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended.  I need to get incremental upgrades through the upgrade process.
I have a hunch that the upgrades don't remove all the prior detritus from prior versions and that is tripping up the Secunia security.
I am hoping someone else has encountered the same issues and has found a solution.
    Sincerely,
    Kevin

  • Can't import config to anything beyond 6.01 - say it isn't so

    Hi all
Just downloaded, burned, and delivered MARS 6 image to one of our sites last week.  Target box reimaged from 4.3.6.  Exported config from 4.3.6, etc.  according to the Cisco documents.
After the re-image, on the config import, i hit this error
    File from_04_3_60_to_06_0_60.sql missing from schema.
Configuration import failed with error code: 1
    Configrestore failed!
Error: failed to import config data.
A bit of digging - turns out apparently I have to reimage specifically to v 6.01, import the original config to that version, then update the 6.01 image with each sequential 6.x point release individually.
    Is this correct?
OK - you got me on a technicality - the upgrade docs do refer to 6.01, but silly me, I just assumed that subsequent point releases of MARS would maintain / preserve the same functionality so I used the latest available 6.06 image.
Is there a quick fix?  otherwise this looks like a do-over -and if that works, then a lot of incremental updates.
    <sigh>....

Yes, unfortunately migration from version 4.3.6 only works to version 6.0.1, and you would need to perform incremental upgrade from version 6.0.1 onwards. Sorry, no easy and quick way unfortunately.

  • Time Machine on Mavericks making excessively large backups

I recently upgraded from Mavericks from Mountain Lion. Previously when TM would backup the files, the incremental file size of each backup would be anywhere between 50Mb to 1Gb depending on my activity during that part of the day. Over all, I would have a backup history spanning 1 or 2 months (always varied).
After upgrading to Mavericks, my backups are huge!! Averaging 7-10Gb EACH TIME!! Now my history only spans 2 days! My backup drive is small, about 500Gb so it doesn't take long to fill up with these excessively large backups.
As a test I waited until a back up had just completed, then, with out doing anything, I would immediately initiate a back up. Again, after it prepared the back up and it started, it said the backup size was 7Gb. Normally it would be less than a couple Mb, but 7Gb!!
I have several folders excluded (mostly folders for caches), so I can't imagine where all the sizes are coming from. I'm thinking that previously backed up files are not being properly marked as backed up and therefore are being backed up multiple times. Ideas?

I decided to take one more look at my current backups using one of the suggested programs, Time Tracker. Low and behold, I found that my Wiki Logs for the Sever was ranging in the 6 Gb territory! Once I excluded that, it dropped it down to a much more managable 1 Gb backup. I ran it manually 3 more times after than and it dropped to 600 Mb and now on the last one 178 Mb ... that was the problem. I wonder why it wasn't recognizing the Wiki logs properly. Doesn't really matter, I don't use Wiki for my server so I don't need to back up the logs! Problem fixed!
