Network sharing issue - no BT Pan device?

Trying to enable Mac-to-Mac internet sharing over BT connection. I've gone to BT Settings/Advanced and enabled internet sharing over BT. At this point, a BT Pan device should show up in my internet settings, but it doesn't.
Interestingly, if I add a device, a BT PAN selection is available, but it doesn't appear to be associated with any device.
This works fine on my newer aluminum MB, but not the black MB. I notice the BT manufacturers are different...
Any thoughts/fixums?

So, from the deafening silence, I take it this is unsupported on the black MacBooks?

  • IPhoto network sharing issues

    Hello,
I'm using iPhoto 9.1.1, with a small library of about 2000 photos, on a FW800 external HD.
The system is OS X Server 10.6.5 running on a Mac Mini Server.
The issue i have is that i have shared the library on the network, i can see it fine, but i cannot see the subfolders in the sharing.
For example, i have a folder called "current shows", in there, there's "Metallica", in there, there's "rehearsals San Francisco 2008", etc.
All i see is the first folder, with all the pictures in it.
Is there a way to better sort that out or it's a limitation of the sharing feature of iPhoto?
Also, some computers will see the thumbnails, some won't. The library has full RW access by the way.
    Thanks in advance,

You can only share albums in iPhoto, not Folders.
    Regards
    TD

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

    Hi Monty,
Sorry to say it, but this is normal for Apple TVs. I've owned a TV2 and a TV3, and neither lasted for an entire year. They are quite fragile and of low quality, and as you can see here, quite fussy even when they work. The wi-fi receiver on these are cheap and unreliable.
Consider the $99 an annual rental fee. They rarely work for a whole year, so if you are going to use the platform, you will have to replace them constantly.
Also, when one dies under warranty, never, never send it to Apple for repair. Go to the Apple Store for replacement. I sent my ATV3 in for warranty repair using a box sent to me by Apple, and although FedEx tracking showed it was accepted by Apple, it was never seen again. Apple won't replace it or even return my calls.

  • WRT600N - Network Sharing / Storage Issues

I recently bought a WRT600N v1.0 from Dell.com and configured the router (I'm a CCNP, so I've been using routers, etc.. for years). I had a WRT54GS v1.0 before this and that worked great for years.
The WiFi (both 5GHz and 2.4GHz) has been rock solid on the WRT600N, but my issue is with the network sharing/storage (NAS) part of the router.
I plugged in a Seagate USB 2.0 750GB HDD (already formatted to NTFS using Windows Vista). I was able to create folders and share them out. However, I cannot map a drive to about half of the folders. All folders are set up the exact same way, and even those I can map a drive to.. the network performance copying files to those shares is horrible (even over Gigabit Ethernet). I'm talking like 1MB/s, when I was getting 20MB/s using my old solution.
When I formatted the disk using the WRT600N, it only allowed me to format it to FAT, not even FAT32 or NTFS. Then it would still only work half the time.
    Any ideas?
This seems like a FW issue, like many brand new Linksys products. I've already contacted Linksys support and they don't have a beta FW available to resolve this either.

    DTSkyCop wrote:
Have you fixed your issues with the storage feature of this router...?  I recently bought the WRT600N router and the SAME exact Seagate HD for the storage link feature.  I have spent over 15 hours numerous phone calls to Linksys Techs and My Computer Works Techs and NOTHING doing, it still does not work right.
I have set up my drive and I to had to FORMAT using the FAT system of the router per one of the Linksys Supervisor Techs.  I did this and set up everything related to my drive and MAPPED all my drives...  I have access to all the drives at first and can move files around and delete from the network.
I wait for a few minutes and open a NEW program and try to SAVE to the network drive location and  get "You Need Permission to Preform This Action.  Try Again or Cancel" are the only options I get and NO REQUEST for a paswsword is given.  I am administrator and cannot now access my drive / network...
The TECH's for MCW are puzzled as well as they initially set the drive and Share folders up.  They cannot figure out why there continues to be a problem accessing the folders on the drive.
I spent 2 1/2 hours tonight on the phone with LinkSys and got really no healp only try this and try that.  While experiencing the problems with the tech on the phone, I preformed a REFRESH on the Storage / Disk page and ALL Share Files I created Disappeared.  I looked physically at my router and discovered the USB was now out...Why?  The TECH thought is was a loose connection.  NEW Router and NEW HD.  Both are in a secure location and no one around to touch them.  I could not get the router to discover the HD plugged into the USB location so I finally unplugged it and plugged it back in.
All setting remained and the router came back up without what seemed to be any hitches.  At this point, I played with the configuration settings while on what seemed like eternal hold and FINALLY got access to the NETWORK drives and was able to save to all the partitions that were created.
The Tech decided that all was OK and we disconnected and guess what...  I again tried to SAVE to the a partition and "You Need Permission to Preform This Action.  Try Again or Cancel" came up again.
I am TRULY frustrated with this NEW SETUP and don't know what to do now.  Can anyone help me fix this thing to make it work right?????
One thing you will learn about LinkSys, is that they have the best prodcuts out there..but if you buy a first generation product (such as the WRT600N), it will have issues that will take firmware updates to resolve the problems. The best thing is to report the issues and wait a few months until several firmware updates come out to resolve the problems.
I recently installed the latest FW update and my WRT600N has been acting "better", but still needs a few more FW updates to fix the other stability issues. I'm fully prepared to wait it out, but it is unfortunate that we have to wait anything out...as LinkSys Q/A should have caught these bugs prior to product release and had them fixed then.
I've tried products from NetGear, Belkin, etc.. and all of them are horrible. At least LinkSys products work once the FW updates come out. I just hope you never need to contact LinkSys support as they are horrible.
    Here's my configuration:
    - WRT600N v1.0
    - Latest FW
    - Seagate 750GB USB 2.0 External HDD formatted to NTFS using Windows Vista
    - Shared folders created using WRT600N
    - Media Server Enabled (still does not work with my Playstation 3)
    - File write performance, still horrible..even over Gigabit Ethernet (around 200KB/s, should be around 4-5MB/s at least)
    - File share mapping, still intermittent.. usually works.. but I noticed it seems to be case senstitive in mapping the drive names (odd)
    - Should have an option to format the HDD as FAT, FAT32 or NTFS (only FAT is used currently)

  • EA4500 – Smart Wi-Fi interface and Windows Network Map issues

I purchased this Router about 2 weeks ago as a phased upgrade of our Home Network, primarily to enhance media streaming. It has the latest firmware preinstalled from the factory. Prior to the purchase and installation of the EA4500 Router I replaced my old Motorola SurfBoard SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem with a Motorola SurfBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. My old Linksys E2000 Router worked perfectly with the SB6141, with the exception that the E2000 wasn’t IPv6 enabled, but does have 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet (RJ-45) and Internet ports.
The EA4500 has been installed for about 10 days and seems to have improved local network speeds and I don’t seem to be having any Internet connectivity issues. However, there are some disturbing issues with the EA4500 and the AE3000 I purchased. There are 11 devices connected through the Router; a Dell Desktop (wireless with the AE3000), a Dell Desktop (Ethernet), a Dell Laptop (wireless), 2 Canon Printers (1 Ethernet and 1 Wireless), 2 Western Digital 1TB MyBookLive Network Drives (both Ethernet), a WD TV Live Streaming Media Player (wireless), an Apple TV media player (wireless), an iPad (wireless), and an Android Smartphone (wireless).
Issue 1 – The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi interface appears to be unreliable at times!!! I’ve read about this problem here on the Community involving the EA6500, so I don’t know if this is a Linksys Server issue, as suggested in a few responses, or a bug in the Router firmware, or defective hardware. However, when the interface locks up, it can’t be accessed from a wireless or wired connection. Usually, powering down the Router and then powering it back up and restart will allow it to function again. However, at times before the interface completely locks up it shows either just a white screen or the security screen will show no firewall features enabled. This is a little scary, so I’ll do a complete reset and setup; this is becoming a pain in the rear!!!!! Is there any hope for this being fixed, in this Router, not the next generation??????????
Issue 2 - All of my network devices show up in the Router’s Device List. Except for the Apple devices they also show up, when they are online, in Windows 7 Explorer under Network and when you click on Network they are correctly displayed as Computers, Media Devices, Network Infrastructure, or Storage. However, when you click on “Open Network and Sharing Center” and then click on “See Full Map”; it fails with the response “Windows cannot create the network map. Responses from other devices on the network are delayed or there is an incompatible router on the network”; no device map is shown. When I follow the link for more information, the only thing that stands out is “A device on the network, such as a hub or switch, is not working properly or is not compatible with the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) protocol, which Windows uses to create the map. To fix this problem, disable the device, turn it off, or remove it from your network”. All of my network devices showed up on the Network Map with the old E2000. This issue is the same on all of my computers, either wired or wireless. Any known solutions for this, or is it as Windows suggests; an incompatible Router????
Thanks in advance for any insight or solutions. With the issues I’m having with the EA4500 and the AE3000; they are both probably going back to Amazon.

thebluemamba_24; Thank you for your suggestion; I finally found time yesterday to perform an extensive evaluation before I return the Router. However, rather than trying to add devices manually, my rationale was if the EA4500 can’t process them correctly, automatically, it needs to be returned anyway, so I added devices normally letting the device an Router handle the process.
In thinking through this issue, all devices on our network are detected and identified by Windows Explorer on Windows 7 computers; except of course the Apple and Android devices (Apple TV, iPad, and Smartphone). So, I wondered if one of those three devices being added to the Router’s device list was somehow causing issues or interfering with Windows 7’s ability to generate a Network Map. Therefore, my approach was to turn off or disable all devices on our network, reset the Router to factory defaults, reestablish the Router to my custom Home Network configuration using a Windows 7 PC that has LAN and Wireless access to the Router, then add one device at a time and check with each addition to see if Windows 7 could still generate a Network Map.
With the Router reset and reestablishment complete; I began the process of adding one device at a time and checking to see if a Network Map was being generated. What I discovered was when a recent addition to the network, a Western Digital WD TV Live Streaming Media Player, was connected (wirelessly), Windows 7 could no longer generate the Network Map and the failure was consistent. The only way to get the Network Map to work again was to remove power from the WD TV Live, although it remained in the EA4500’s Device List; simply turning it off didn’t help. Since I’d originally witnessed the Windows 7 Network Map working with the Linksys E2000 Router that the EA4500 replaced, I decided to test the WD TV Live with that Router. It worked initially, but it failed consistently after the first success. Interestingly, the failure indication was a little different, but nevertheless generation of the Network Map failed.
I’ve tried changing a few settings on the EA4500 as well as the WD TV Live, but nothing helped. There was a recent firmware update to the WD TV Live, so I might try rolling back the firmware to see if it makes a difference.
The Network Map issue might very well be an issue with the WD TV Live, not the Router, but after reading many threads on this Community I have reservations that the problems I’m experiencing with the Smart interface lockup will be fixed. I suspect new emerging replacement products will be the focus and these older products will be abandoned and no more firmware fixes will be forthcoming and I don’t want to spend more money for a new product just to fix old problems and get something that works properly. The Network Map issue is troublesome, but the lockup of the Router’s “Linksys Smart Wi-Fi” interface is a serious matter to me. It appears that once it locks up, the only way to correct it is a power off restart; not practical if you’re traveling and trying to access settings remotely; the selling point for this feature.
Given the problems I’m experiencing with the EA4500 and AE3000, I guess I’ll return them. Too bad, because otherwise the EA4500 seems like it’s a good Router. I’ve been brand loyal since the Linksys WRT54G came out, but after reading this Community and with my personal experience with the EA4500 and AE3000, now I’ll probably give the NETGEAR N900 equivalents a try.

  • Can't add bluetooth pan device in Osx Lion

I'm trying to share my wifi connection using bluetooth on Lion.
The advanced option in the bluetooth settings to share your internet connection is gone (was there in Snow Leopard).
That's why I manually want to add a Bluetooth Pan device so I can enable internet sharing. But there is only a Bluetooth DUN device available.
Is Pan support removed from Lion or is there a way to add the pan device using the terminal (ifconfig?)

Looks I'm a bit closer, but not there yet either.
In my Sharing preferences, under 'Share your connection from' I find the options: Wifi, Bluetooth DUN and Bluetooth PAN (and some other not related)
Under 'To computers using' I have the option 'Bluetooth PAN'
This was available since updating to Lion, so I didn't add any of those afterwards.
Since I'm on a wife hotel connection with my MBP (Lion) I selected Wifi for the incoming and Bluetooth PAN for the sharing towards my iPad.
Paired my iPad with the MBP, but still can't access internet on the iPad.
Not sure if it is related, but in Bluetooth preferences, when selecting my iPhone 3GS, under services appears: PAN Network Access Profile; this service doesn't appear when selecting my iPad
    And under Network preferences, when selecting Bluetooth PAN, the only device I can select is my iphone, not my ipad;
Would it be the PAN Network Access Profile that is missing on my iPad; anyone knows how I would get it on there?

I'm suddenly unable to join my Airport network with my PowerBook G4.  I am able to access my network with all of my other devices.  How can I once again establish access using my PowerBook G4?

Bruce777 solved this for me, thank you Bruce! My printer now works perfectly on my new wifi network!
Bruce's  instructions, for anyone else having the same issue:
    - delete any previously set up printers
    - scrub old hp software and update software to get the hp 2.8 drivers
    - remove the usb cable from the printer if you have one connected
    - reset the printer network to hpsetup (hold down the power button and press network button 2x and then cancel 3x, release power button.)
    - print out the wireless network test report (hold down the network button and press the update button 2x). verify the network name / ssid is hsetup
    - got to sys prefs > network and change the mac wireless network to hpsetup
    - go to the sys pref > print scan
    - add the HP 8000 printer
    - click on the options and supplies button and click on the Show Printer Webpage
    - click on the networking tab > wireless in the left pane > start network wizard and change the network from hpsetup to your network
    - finish (this page may freeze up.  close the browser)
    - go back to the sys prefs and change the wireless network back to your networt
    - go to the printer and print out the wireless network test report (press network button and update button 2x).  Check that the SSID is your network
    - go to sys prefs > print scan > select your printer > options & supplies > show printer webpage > network info (check ssid and compare to wireless network test report)
    - try printing something to your printer.  It might take a little time the first print.

    Mudda,
Is LabVIEW 2010 installed on the PXI chassis or was this program developed on a different computer?
If LabVIEW 2010 was installed on a different computer you may need the 2010 runtime engine on the controller. If the development environment is installed on the PXI controller then you should be fine.
How are you connecting to the PXI chassis is it on the network or do you have it directly connected to your development computer?
If you look at this forum the same error occured when another device on the network was sharing the same IP address.
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/Real-Time-Measurement-and/Deployment-Completed-With-Errors-Network-Shared-Va...
Could you try plugging the PXI chassis in directly and see if that resolves the issue or changing the IP address?

  • How to allow access to my airport extreme network for more than one wirelss device at the same time

I received a Kobo Vox ereader for Christmas and have not been able to connect to my home wireless network. It works with unsecured networks and I tested it out at an Apple reseller with their airport extreme netwok and it connects fine.
It seems as if I cannot have more than one wireless device connected to my home netork at the same time.
So here is what I did to test this out:
    - I powered off the Kobo vox
    - I shut down my macbook
    - I turned off the modem and unplugged the power cord and removed the cable connection from the modem.
    -  I also unplugged the airport extreme router.
    - I waited for about 15 minutes and then set it all up again and turned on the power to the router and the modem
    - I turned on the kobo  vox (I left my laptop shut down)
    - my kobo vox was able to connected to the internet.
    - I powered up my laptop and it couldn't connect to the internet.
So, I went through the above steps again and powered up my laptop first and was able to connect to the internet. I then turned on my Kobo and was not able to connect.
It seems as if I can only have one device connected to my wireless network at one time and that device is the first one to be powered on and connected to the internet.
Am I missing some network or airport extreme settings...
    thanks

Try the following on your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
    Click the Internet Connection tab
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to read Share a public IP address
    Click Update

  • Distributed application: Networked Shared Variables, Named Services (Raw TCP/IP) or Other?

    Happy New Year NI forums!
I am working on a project involving mobile interacting robots. In the future it is likely the application's components may need to run on different PCs (Targets). Note: at this point in time all the components are seperate but all running on the localhost machine. Thinking towards the future I want to pick the 'best' architecture to allow all these components (VIs performing various functions) in multiple locations. For example, several VIs on the Robots, VIs on serveral PCs.
I am  currently aware of using Server/Client TCP/IP using named services. My mock up works well, but is it time efficient (my time coding) I wonder.. ?
Whereas I am aware of networked shared variables which handle connections and all the parsing for the underlying tcp/ip communication. But will this be difficult the manage? I am unsure if I can associate shared variables with a VI similar to named services. I suppose I could pro grammatically create the variable upon initialization of the server component - and the client could just search the list of avaiaible variables to connect too. Downside this would require DSC module.
As you can see, I am rather unsure. Any advice would be great!

    Hi Jason,
Thanks for your reply. I hope your enjoying NI UK as much as I did.. fun times!
I have seen the link you posted a few times before. But today, I took a better look at it.
My issue is I need several multi-client severs, i.e. many servers which allow multiple clients to connect to them.
Now the STM does have an example of this - STM mutli-client Example - Server.vi (used with the STM mutli-client.vi)
However, when a make copies of these code (to have my second server) - it refuses to run. As in , it just stops itself.
I DID change the port number, on the lister aspect of the server code. But I Am unsure what else I would need to change to get this setup to work?
One thought I had was, the FIFOs all having the same name - this probably isn't a good idea between servers.
    Any suggestions would be grateful!
*please could you provide me email support

  • Network shared variables lose binding

    Hello,
I am developing an application in LabVIEW that uses network shared variables to transmit data between two PC's on the same subnet. The shared variables work fine when running the VI's in development mode, however, when i build the vi's into an executable I find that they no longer work. Here is what I have found so far:
I deploy the shared variable library on the publisher machine (also happens to be the development machine) through an invoke node in the executable. NI distributed system manager confirms that this does deploy and indeed updates as it should.
For the executable on the subscriber PC I created a second shared variable library (same project) with the same shared variables and bound them to the respective shared variables from the first library by selecting enable aliasing, then bind to PSP URL and browsing to the shared variable I wish to bind it to (e.g. \\hallnet-ellm2\shared variable library\serial Number). The machines listed under browse were listed by name so when I tried this initially and it did not work I manually changed the name of my machine in the URL box to the IP address of the publisher hoping that would fix it in case the subscriber could not resolve the publishers machine alias. So now my bind URL read \\192.168.0.1\shared variable library\serial Number.
As part of the executable on the subscriber I deploy this second shared variable library. NI distributed system manager confirms that this deploys but under quality for an individual variable it has a list of issues (see attached) and the bound variable is not updating. At this point the publisher shared variables are still functioning fine. By clicking on 'edit variable' I can see that the variable on the subscriber is still bound but the PSP URL is now \\localhost\shared variable library\serial number. Changing the PSP URL on the subscriber to \\192.168.0.1\shared variable library\serial number enables the variable to update as expected. However by this time my executable has already picked up the error and does not function.
I think that the issue lies with the bind URL used on the subscriber as for some reason it does not keep the binding configured in the project and instead changes to 'localhost'. Why is this? Should it not stay bound to the address specified in the project?
I have tried changing the IP addresses in the aliases file so that
    [My Computer]
    My Computer=localhost
    becomes
    [My Computer]
    My Computer=ip of local machine
    This did not help.
The shared variable libraries are included in the build spec to go into the support files directory and they are successfully deployed from there on both publisher and subscriber.
I am using LabVIEW 8.6 on Windows XP
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer,
    Lee

    Hi Lee,
I hope you are well.  Thank you for your post.  Your application sounds very interesting.
Looking at your issue I was wondering, have you tried lowering your firewalls, as this may be causing the problem.
Also, another option would be to setup a private network.  Do you have access to any routers that you could use to link the two machines independent of your IT's infrastructure?
The other thing to try is two other computers entirely.  Again, it would be ideal to take them off the network you are on, but it's something to try if my prior suggestion doesn't work.  It should work on the original two machines though, and it's likely that different computers won't solve your problems because I suspect the network.
Remember that the client variables must know the location of the variables on the server, so you can't move the server exe around without changing this value.
Make sure to set the network location in the "Bind to Source" option for the client variables.
It is also possible to write a separate piece of code to install on every machine that is responsible for deploying the library and by doing so eliminate the need for programmatically deploying the variables in the original application.  However, this won't really help you, because the variables you use in the application have to be the same as the ones deployed in the library, so if you change the library, they'll no longer be linked and they won't receive data.  You'd have to create a separate exe for every binding source you wanted to link to, and then have a second, known library for the sake of communication locally on the computer between the ‘deployer’ and the actual application.  The main application could then be assigned the responsibility of launching the correct ‘deployer’' if it sees it needs to switch to a different variable binding source.  This method is not the most streamlined or effective, but it might work.
Just to let you know, you will need to use the DSC toolkit.
Please find below some knowledge base links that I think you will find helpful in your application.
    Using Shared Variables in Executables
How do I Programmatically Change the Data Binding Source for Shared Variables?
I hope this information helps and if you can give these suggestions a go and let me know how you get on, that would be great.

  • Using network sharing on Macbook as router, but my ipod can't connect to the internet even though it can connect to wifi

Hi there, recently I've been trying to use my macbook as a router by turning on network sharing.
I'm sharing my connection through PPPoe.
It worked great for my 3DS and I was able to play online flawlessly
(unfortunately I don't have any other mobile device so I could only test this on my 3DS and ipod touch
But my ipod touch 4th gen, while it is able to connect to wifi with a strong bar, I cannot access the internet via web browsers and some of the apps.
It always gives me the 'cannot connect to internet' message.
What further puzzles me is that I can receive, update, and check my mail perfectly fine.
    I've already tried the following:
    1) unplugging and replugging my modem
    2) forgetting the network on my ipod and re-access it
    3) resetting network setting on ipod
    4) tweaking with the internet sharing setting like trying different channels and different types of security
    5) turning off and on my ipod, and turning off and on the wifi on my ipod
Anyway, I'm really stumped and I hope someone can help me figure this out.
Any help will be gladly appreciated.

oh I'm not actually using a router, I'm using my macbook pro as a wifi router by turning on network sharing.
And I'm sharing the connection through PPPoe
    ...unless, of course, I'm totally misunderstanding your question @@;
    I'm a complete tehcno noob =__=;

  • IPhoto '08 album organization while network sharing

I use iPhoto to store and organize (hopefully) a University's photo archive (which is shared on a network). Would anyone happen to know why my albums do not stay organized (in alphabetical order) when I access a shared iPhoto library remotely?
Also, when I create a new folder and place albums inside of it (for further organization purposes because there are many, many albums) then try to access that folder remotely from another mac, that folder is not 'recognized' as a true folder with albums in it, instead it is treated as one big album.
Another issue is that when i try to export my iPhoto library (under file>export) it won't keep the organization structure (the separate albums). Instead, it places the entire collection of photos into one location, thus losing all those albums and hours of organization.
I'm a bit shocked that Apple hasn't found these issues and fixed them 7 releases later.
Plus, for those people on campus that need access to the University photo archive, they have to find a Mac nearby. Is there any way to share this archive with PCs using iPhoto? Or is there an Adobe product or other other product I should be using that is better designed for these purposes (organization/file structure consistency when network sharing and cross-platform compatible)??
I hope I don't have to switch to a new application, everyone in my department (and other Mac departments) are completely comfortable with iPhoto and it would be a huge learning curve for them to try a new photo database/sharing/storing/editing/organizing/etc. application!
    Please help!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I use iPhoto to store and organize (hopefully) a University's photo archive (which is shared on a network).
This is way, way beyond the intended use of iPhoto which is personal photo organiser.
Also, when I create a new folder and place albums inside of it (for further organization purposes because there are many, many albums) then try to access that folder remotely from another mac, that folder is not 'recognized' as a true folder with albums in it, instead it is treated as one big album.
Only Albums are shared. Not events. not folders. Only Albums.
Another issue is that when i try to export my iPhoto library (under file>export) it won't keep the organization structure (the separate albums). Instead, it places the entire collection of photos into one location, thus losing all those albums and hours of organization.
If you export your Library you get the photos from your Library. If you want to export albums, then export the albums. The same happens with iTunes. Export from the Library you get the lot. Want the organisation, export playlist by playlist.
Is there any way to share this archive with PCs using iPhoto?
No. iPhoto has no cross platform capability.
There are other cross platform apps. Microsoft's Expression (http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/overview.aspx?key=web) is one but there are others. Search on MacUpdate
Bearing in mind the use you have I really don't think that iPhoto is the correct application for your needs. You need a more robust and scalable application - perhaps even a media server.
