Neural Nets with Java!!!!!!!

My company needs to create a Neural Net... in java! For those who don' t know, or don' t have the background, a Neural Net is an iterative algorithm which does forecasting of financial markets. I know, I know, C++ would probably be better/ faster, but I insist I want it in Java. Therefore, any help from this forum? It has to be in optimum OOP also.
Anyone interested in such project? Has it been done already?

As for algorythms and methods, I' m a stock trader and Java Developer so I have stock trading software experience in Java. So I want to move to a Neural Net. Reason is neural net is the best, most advanced process, even better than Genetic algorithm.
Genetic algs, I maintain, are easier than Neural nets.
Now, Fractal and Chaotic dynamical structures can be built as well, but my research shows that all systems point to neural nets as the proven tool for forecasting financial markets. All others seem marginal but I' m still in research. As a Stock analyst, it' s not the Neural Net but also the kind of inputs to the Neural Net and many other things. Not to mention, it needs computing power and time to extract results once a working NN prototype is made.
Thanks, to all, I' ll take some time to review the links already surfaced in this topic and move from there. As for already commercially developed NN software, I' ll evaluate them how good they are based on my trading and investing experience and use/ reject as necessary.
It' s really good project but I' m losing the hope I can finish this myself.

OSX 10.4.10, Net beans and Sams Programing with JAVA

I am brand new to Java so I downloaded Net Beans on my MAC. I bought a copy of Teach Your Self Programing with Java in 24 hrs.
So far I got the first three programs to compile on Net Beans but got stuck when they started to talk about arguments. The following will not compile. Starting at line 2
1) System.out.println("The " + arguments [0]
2) + " " + arguments[1] + " fox "
3) + "jumped over the "
4) + arguments[2] + " dog. ")
I get the little red x on each line.
Is the book wrong or am I missing something?
All the tutorials talk about Javac. I can't seem to find it or get to it on my computer. How do I know if I even have it?
And is there such a thing as a "command line" on a MAC?

Hi, you should put any code you post in between code brackets like this:
code here I dont use a mac or netbeans but javac is the java compiler, you would not have been able to compile the first two. The .exe (or whatever mac executable is) is usually located in the lib folder in the java directory. It comes when you download JDK. As for the code, it would help me if you posted the first couple lines of the error message. It looks fine to me, but I would need to see your whole class in order to help you further
and yes there is a command line on a mac...i think its called terminal and usually looks like a little computer

Neural Nets + Face detection/recognition

Does anyone have any experience with this, I've been struggling to find decent resources on whether or not building an ANN in Java for this purpose is a reasonable idea or not, even to produce something that wouldn't necessarily, or likely, be massively successful.
In fact, I've come across very little actual code for this in any programming language so whilst preferring Java, to see any implementation would be interesting for me. I'm aware of JOONE(?) but I suspect that's a relatively mature project and I'd like to see smaller examples of ANNs so I can get some of the concepts first.
Is it feasible? Are there any online documented instances of people doing this where their code is available? It needs to be *nix too, I did find a link to a VB program but that's not much good as I don't have a Windows box.

For face detection/recognition, a BAM (Biderectional Associative Memory) neural net would do fine.
Google for 'Kosko' or ''Bidirectional Associative Memory'. It's quite easy to implement, just a bit
of matrix multiplications ...

How to use of ffmpeg or jffmpeg with java

I am creating an application in java to convert one video format to other. (eg. avi to wmv) . as JMF does not support all the video formats available today. I read on the net that I can use ffmpeg or jffmpeg together with jmf to process many video formats. but i did not get any example or guide to use ffmpeg with java. Can you plese guide me how to use this libraries with jmf. with some example or simple steps to integrate ffmpeg with jmf.
I am using java 1.6 and jmf 2.1. eclipse IDE and windows xp professional and redhat linux.

NewBie Question: Can you make a website completely with Java?

Greetings my new Fellow Java programmers. My name is Jason and I am a computer programmer and web developer. I am verse in the following:

I want to expand my skills to include:
1.JAVA
2. Action Script
3. Java Script
4. Ajax
I have always wanted to learn Java and now I think it is the right time. So my question is can you create a site complete with Java or have a majority of the site functions and look attributed to Java? Is it similar to creating a site with vb.net and asp.net which utilizes html as well? Please explain. I am eager to learn this language. Thank you.

I find it strange that you have to ask this. Of course the end result will be HTML/XHTML, that's what the browsers want. I would think that if you know the .NET side of web development, these concepts (client/server technologies) should already be clear to you.
The short answer is yes it is possible. However if you want to learn Ajax/Javascript/Actionscript, I would learn those technologies before you learn Java web development as they are completely unrelated. You know that Javascript is not Java, right? You can implement javascript/Ajax in your .NET web applications already.
Before you want to learn Java web development, learn Java. Seriously, learn basic Java first. It will be a great deal harder (and ultimately a lot more frustrating) to jump directly into the web development side of Java without knowing any of the basics. One of the biggest differences between .NET and Java platforms is that Microsoft basically holds your hand when it comes to making decision about which APIs to use and how to attack a problem; Java leaves you to the wolves to select from a gigantic amount of APIs and tools available that can each solve a problem in their very own way. Freedom is great, but it can be very daunting when you are just beginning.
So before you even think about web development, I suggest you explore the java tutorial and see if you can get to grips with the language and the tool set.

When you are comfortable with the Java language and you are sure that Java web/enterprise development is still something for you, then come back and ask the question again.

SQL Reporting Services with Java EE

I have developed a Java application for calling the SQL Reports. A couple of reports are made in the server. This SQL Reporting server is deployed and the client is made in the java using Werb services. Whenever a search is done from the Java application, reports are displayed on the JSP page using the web service methods. But the problem is the entire report is displayed. Is there any way to display the report based on the particular item search. Suppose, if search is made on "Australia" in the coulumn Country, the report should contain only Australian related data. Currently the search is based on the report name itself.

Java or not - you need to package your server side language specific object into something that AS understands (text, XML, AMF object) and load this data into AS via, perhaps, URLLoader. Or you can open socket. Then you parse this data with AS3 code in SWF.

Offline Web Start app fails to launch with Java 7 Update 25

So it seems that another issue with Java 7 update 25 and Web Start applications is that a signed application will not launch when offline.
It fails when attempting to check the revocation status of the signing certificate.
Anyone have any ideas to get around this exception aside from uninstalling update 25?

Disregard. I found that the user had changed the java security settings to "Very High" in addition to upgrading to update 25.

Possible to make a dll with java?

I am completely new to Java. Is it possible to create a Windows style DLL with Java? I am working with one project written in VB.NET which needs to access functions in another project written in Java. Can anybody help me figure out how to do this?

I'm not sure what you mean by what type of project. It contains numerous data analysis functions which I want to access from a VB.NET program. From what you've written, I must assume that Java cannot be used to create a DLL and my only option is to rewrite it in another language. Thank you for the info.

JAI extension automatic installation fail with Java Plug-in 1.4.1_01

Hi everyone,
i have a html page with an applet that use the JAI (Java Advanced imaging) extension. I used to run it with java plug-in 1.3.1_03.
When the JAI extension was not installed, it was automatically downloaded and installed. I use the sun "Signed Auto Installation for browsers" jar available on the JAI download page.
But with Java Plug-in 1.4.1_01, it seems to have a security problem. Is the "Signed Auto Installation for browsers" only java plug-in 1.3 compatible or is there a way to install it with 1.4.
If anyone has encountered the same problem with another extension, it could help me to know how to have it installed automatically with java Plug-in 1.4.
I tested on IE 4 and 6 on Windows NT4 & IE 6 on Windows 2000, and i have the same results.

How to use SQl server 2005's SQLXMLBulkLoad with JAVA

I am in a big problem identifying how to use xml bulk insert functionality of sql server 2005 with java.
I need to enter millions of data into the sql server 2005 database.
All the material i saw on net includes vb script or asp.net sripts to do so.

In this forum we commonly discuss connections from Oracle to foreign databases. When you want to connect with your SQL Server to Oracle it would be better to ask that in a Microsoft forum as they support their LINKED SERVER mechanism.

JTDS not connecting with SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 + SSL with Java 6 U34-35

Environment:
Windows 7 Pro 32-bit
SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 (Forced Encryption = Yes, No Certificate provided to server)
Java 6 Update 27-35 and Java 7 Update 2-7
jTDS 1.2.2 and 1.2.6
Under the following setup, our Java application is able to connect to the SQL Server database:
- SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2
- Java 6 Update 27-33 or Java 7 Update 2-5
just switching the JVM to the following would cause the application to be unable to connect to the database:
- Java 6 Update 34 or 35, or Java 7 Update 6 or 7
Browsing through the Java 6 Update 34 release notes, it looks like nothing big was changed, so I'm wondering what has changed with Java 6 U34 and Java 7 U6. I was also looking through a packet sniffer, and indeed the behavior of Java 6 Update 33 and lower was different from Java 6 Update 34 (although I couldn't understand the messages being passed, the number of connections and messages were different).
* This is different from the issue with Java 6 Update 29-30 and Java 7 wherein they were patched for the BEAST SSL vulnerability. That was fixed with the SP2 patch for SQL Server 2008 R2, and for SQL Server 2008 you'd need a hotfix aside from SP3. After patching the server with those updates, Java 6 Update 29-33 and Java 7 U1-5 should be able to connect to the database.
* If I do switch off Force Encryption, all Java versions are able to connect to the database.

It's four months later, but my colleague and I have reproduced the same behavior in both our commercial product, and a very simple example class. It's exactly as you describe it, where the latest versions of both Java 6 and 7 (and several previous versions) hang during the first jTDS SQL query to the DB (immediately after the SSL and handshake). It also happens with the Microsoft JDBC driver.
If you disable the BEAST SSL fix (-Djsse.enableCBCProtection=false), then the connections work without any problems. So, while this is different from the original BEAST SSL problem and subsequent fix, it really seems like some additional changes were made to the fix in a later Java release that broke things.
My colleague has filed a bug with Oracle, and is awaiting a response. We also filed a bug at the jTDS project (#690 - http://sourceforge.net/p/jtds/bugs/690/) that has simple reproduction steps. A contributer at the jTDS project agrees that this seems to be a problem with the JRE, and is not specific to jTDS.
I hope that Oracle will address this issue soon. We need to periodically update the JRE due to vulnerabilities, and we need to have SSL for our JDBC connections for security reasons. This bug puts us and others in a difficult position.

MS Access database has a max length limitation of 2.14GB for Access 2000( 1.07G for Access 97), and won't recycle basically space for update/delete sql so tha it's a good idea to use MS Access database for program, which need update/delete frequent ly data. The programmers of HXTT Access(www.hxtt.net) are writing code for CREATE TABLE/DATABASE sql now. If you need a pure Java solution for PACK TABLE/DATABSE urgently in your project, you should send such a requirement to the Support page of www.hxtt.net so that they can schedule complementing such a fucntion. Otherwise, you should pack your databae manually or visit C++ code for Compact an Access Database Programmatically at
