New Java Update w/Snow Leopard Firefox leads to broken javascript functionality?

I'm using Snow Leopard with the current Firefox... and after the new java update downloaded from Apple -- just today -- I'm finding that a site that I use regularly no longer works when a link for a java scripted small pop up informational window no longer pops open.
Clicking the link does nothing.

  • After an update to Snow Leopard, JAVA no longer works.

I updated to Snow Leopard a few weeks ago.  It has been frustrating, but I am trying to get all of my programs in sync with the new upgraded software.
One is JAVA, which I downloaded the update tonight, but it does not correct the issue(s) that I am having.
I have one site www.photoplusnet.com that I need to access, but can't because it takes an active running JAVA to access the site.
The other site, my University studies with Capella, I am unable to attach files, because that site uses JAVA to attach files.
Anyone know how I can correct this issue?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,

    Deborah,
It is quite possible that your Java is still set to 5 and not 6 in your /Utilities/Java Preferences.  Open your Java Preferences and drag the Java SE 6 to the top of the list.  Also you can open a terminal and type in java -version (no space between hyphen and word "version") to see what version of java your user id is running.  Hope that helps.

  • Can't open or start new projects in Logic after updating to Snow Leopard

I've been having a few problems with Logic 9 since updating to Snow Leopard (10.6.8 )  a couple of days ago.
Every time i click on "new" and try and start a new project - logic freezes and i get the rotating circle sign and Logic stops responding - eventually i need to force quit and start again.
Existing projects seem to be functioning fine, although slightly slower than before.
Does anyone have any fixes for this?! Not being able to start a new project is quite a big problem!
    Thanks

The mistake was trusting only TimeMachine as your backup/restore.
If you had your users files also backed up to a external storage drive, or used a bootable clone (since they can be directly accessed) then you could have recovered just your files.
This is what I suggest you do since TM apprantly botched things.
1: Visit my user tip here and attempt to fix Snow Leopard in place, the purpose here is to get a booing machine so you can use a working Admin account to copy the user folder containing your files to a regular external drive.
I suggest #8 and #6, this will reinstall OS X over itself to fix it, then reset the User Password so you can hopefully log in.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
2: This method will also work, you install Snow Leopard onto a extenral drive and boot from it. This is probally a more safer choice than above, it's certainly less work, but it needs a blank external powered drive.
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
3: Once a copy of your users files is off, then your free to revert your machine back to Snow Leopard.
The ENTIRE drive must be selected and erased, to set the GUID, erase the RecoveryHD and EFI partitions.

opened from the tool bar and also directly from applications. Any more suggestions?
Can you start a new project, or are you saying you cannot launch DVD SP at all? If the later try deleting the preferences (since you are on the road, make sure you copy the preferences to someplace in case something goes wrong.) If it is the former, you may not be ablle to open the existing project if you took all the steps of clicking cancel etc., though the deleting preferences could possibly help if the preferences are corrupted and causing an issue when you are trying to skip files. (Would not count on that one though.)

  • When I updated from Snow Leopard to Lion, a new username was created. I want to merge old   new username

When I updated from Snow Leopard to Lion, a new username w/administrative powers was created. Trying to merge old w/ new and retain all photos, music, etc of each but can't figure it out. Any ideas on how to do so?

I ended up calling Apple Tech Support for help on this.  Got directed to a Mail expert.  He had me move the following files from my home Library file folder.
    ~\Library\Mail\V2\MailData\Envelope Index
    ~\Library\Mail\V2\MailData\Envelope Index-shm
    ~\Library\Mail\V2\MailData\Envelope Index-wal
Then he asked me to quit Mail and then restart it again.  When it restarted, it imported the mail (which the original migration had not done before).  This solved about 90% of the problems.  In my old mail folder in Snow Leopard, I had a Mail folder called Archive.  Since this is now a reserved folder name, the import to Mountain Lion choked and it created five duplicates of this folder and its subfolders.  I just deleted these and then went to Time Machine and brought in a single copy.  The Rules and Smart Folders I had were gone and couldn't be resurrected, so had to spend some time and rebuild them by hand.  But, now it all seems to be working well.

I have updated from Snow Leopard to Lion with Safari Version 5.0.5. Now I can not update to Safari 5.1. There is no update in the Software Updater, and on the apple-download page, I only found a Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard. When executing it, there is an error message, that it is for 10.6 only.
It seems that I should have first updated Safari, and then only to Lion, which I didn't. Any idea how I can fix this now without having to rollback to Snow Leopard, update Safari and then go back to Lion?

Try this Safari5.1 from the installer package

The download worked better with Firefox not sure why. At the bottom of the page after the captcha>> slow down load is the Free link,  it took about 4 minutes to download on my test.

  • External hard drive & time machine (updating to snow leopard)

I have just bought a non-Apple external hard drive, but haven't used it yet (still packed up!). I am about to update to Snow Leopard and wondered what was best to do with backing up my hard drive (mixture of music, important files etc.).
Is it worth using time machine, or just back up the files myself, or a mixture of both? Also what about partitioning etc?
Guidance would be appreciated to a new Apple user, and moderately literate computer user!

definitely back up the whole system. do not back up piece meal. that's bad for a number of reasons. First, it's VERY easy to miss something important that way. second, if your snow leopard install goes bad or you want to go back to leopard for a while for whatever reason (say, some apps you use are not yet SL compatible), it's very easy to do if you have a full backup and quite unpleasant if you don't have one.
You can use Time Machine or make a bootable clone using CCCloner or Superduper.
Both Time machine and a clone give you an easy way to restore your old system exactly as it was at the backup time.
the external drive should be formatted mac os extended journaled with GUID partition scheme. most new drives are formatted with MBR partition scheme so you'll likely have to completely reformat yours with disk utility.

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 on mid-2009 Macbook Pro (683MB RAM used, 81.67GB free space), do I need additional RAM to update to Snow Leopard?
I was told I can update to Snow Leopard without adding RAM but just read on another discussion thread that someone with the same age Macbook Pro that I have was told to purchase more RAM then update to SL.

  • Updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and every time the MB goes to sleep I have to change my location to restore the internet connection. Any ideas why?

I have just updated to ML from Snow Leopard (to be able to use iCloud with my new iPhone 5) and after every time my 2009 MB 13" goes to sleep I have to change location in order to be able to navigate the internet. The connection is made but does not work on navigation. Changing locations enables navigation of the internet. I have three locations 'Automatic', 'Home' and 'Neufbox', my one-month-old ISP-supplied 'box' (router + VOIP telephone). I have never had such problems so I don't remember which location was the default although I am inclined to think it was 'Home'. The MB was delivered on Leopard and I updated to Snow Leopard with no problem. I didn't go to Lion. A friend recommended that I do this latest update because I couldn't synchronise the contacts and calendar from the MB to the iPhone and I hesitated after reading the many reports of inherent problems. I now have great regrets.

No, it doesn't store a clone. You would have needed to make one with either SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.
If the files were in your ~/Library folder then they may still be there. As I said, you can access it by
going to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". I wouldn't think an upgrade would overwrite anything in ~/Library.
If you have a Time Machine backup you may also be able to use that to retrieve them.

  • Updated to Snow leopard and PDF files disappear

Here's what happened. After I updated to Snow Leopard, when I went to  print a PDF from Quark or Illustrator, it looked liked it was printing  but no file is produced? Nothing...nada. I assumed it had to do with my  distiller or Acrobat. I went to the help section in Acrobate, clicked on  HELP, then REPAIR ACROBAT INSTALLATION. Thought that sounded good. Now I  can find my printers? States no printer selected? Using Acrobat 9.
Anyone have ideas how to fix this this? I'm a beginner for the most part. Thanks so much!
    Kelli

The way you create PDF now in Snow leopard and Leopard you go to Print menu click on PDF hold until a pop up menu shows The choose "create AcrobatPDF".
As for printing its possible you need to either update your print Driver, Or Printer. I know I had to give up my much treasured HP DJ990cse Inkjet printer and get a new C310 Printer/Scanner combo.
It makes great photo and great documents but is more trouble to operate.

  • Just updated to Snow Leopard and my screen turns on randomly

I like to sleep listening to music, so I turn on iTunes and dim the screen to turn it off for darkness.
I just updated to snow leopard 2 days ago and the last two nights when I try this my screen will randomly light back up a little, which doesnt really help me sleep.
I looked around on itunes and system prefrences to see if snow leopard had some random new deal, but I cannot find anything...
    please, help me sleep!

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're all users here.
It's a known Snow Leopard 'quirk'.
The solution was posted on page 2 of this thread by user EmoIII (and probably in dozens of other threads, this was the first linked thread I came across containing the solution...)
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3161667?start=30&tstart=0
Unchecking the box will cause the display to go dark (either by reducing brightness all the way manually, or as specified in the Screen Saver time-out value) and not wake up unexpectedly.

  • If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work?

If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work? My current version of Final Cut Pro is 6.0.6. Thanks.

Apple is not telling you the Complete story about Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 is Power PC code/ IBM CPU code, which Lion does not support.
FCP 6 is NOT Power PC code, it will run on Lion and Mountain Lion, as I have read on many posts.
    The solution??
Solution condition where FCP 6 installed and upgrading OS to Lion
Do nothing, its already running OK
Solution condition where FCP 6 not installed and OS Lion installed.
Connect a firewire drive to your MAC and install the old OS on it (eg snow leopard) ,
    Reboot to that OS
    Install FCP 6
Reboot to your new OS   (EG Lion)
    Run FCP 6

  • Ipad won't sync after updating to snow leopard

Any help available regarding a non-syncing ipad first gen, after updating to snow leopard on my imac?  The ios software on ipad is up to date, and the snow leopard version is also up to date.  The computer will not even recognize that the ipad is connected.  Thx.

Try something very simple first. Quit iTunes, reboot the Mac and restart the iPad. Then try again.
I had some issues when I first installed SL on my last MacBook, and I still have issues every now and then with the iPad not being recognized (now running Lion 10.7.3 on a new MacBook Pro) and this has always worked for me. You may have to reboot the Mac a couple of times - but try it and see if it works for you.
