New Laptop-- Want to SYNC Ipod

I recently bought a new ipod touch and I was wondering how I would sync all my current applications and music onto it from my ipod.
My apps are on my computer or my moms, but are all on my ipod. I really want all the applications and music from the touch on my laptop so I can restore it on the laptop and move everything on my laptops itunes and not have to use the home computers.
Is there a way I can transfer all that data to my new laptops itunes?
Thank you.

You sync the music and apps onto ipod touch via itunes. The music and apps need to be in itunes from them to sync. If your old ipod is not an ipod touch, the games will not work with the ipod touch.
You can copy the entire itunes folder to your laptop. Put it in the same place/folder/location as the current computer. I know this works on Mac as I have done it. I have not done this with a pc.

I already transfered files from old computer to new computer via Home Sharing and external hard drived the playlists. now I want to transfer ipod over to new computer. Old computer is gonna be wiped and given to kids. Any ideas how to do this I am lost.

    HI Stormsmom,
You need to set your iPod to "manually manage music" or else iTunes will delete your files in syncing it up.You can read this article for more info:

I just dled Itunes onto my new laptop, when I synced with my music folder, all of the songs were duplicate on song list, what do I do? What did I do wrong, and where do I find a manual to learn how to use ITunes???

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

  • Got a new computer...sync iPod?

I have a 2nd Gen 8 GB iPod Nano and I just got a new laptop. My iPod is synced with my old desktop. I downloaded iTunes and connected my iPod to the computer. It asked me to authorize and I did. iTunes then proceeded to take my purchased music (about 23 total out of about 700 songs on my iPod) and transfer it to iTunes, leaving out the remaining 600-some odd songs.
How do I make my new laptop the one synced with my iPod? Do I really have to burn ALL my songs on a DVD (no one CD will hold 700+ songs..)??
I remember with my old iPod Mini, I simply plugged it into the computer and it copied the songs into iTunes...does this not exist anymore?? Merci [=

The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Have a new computer want to sync songs with iphone that is connected to old computer

    have a new laptop
have iphone synced to old laptop (now broken)
want to sync iphone to new itunes but not lose all songs saved on phone
why do apple make things so hard? please help

You are not addressing Apple, this is a user to user support forum. iTunes has always been designed to sync one way, from iTunes to the device. iDevices have always been able to sync to only one computer. It is the user's responsibility to back up their devices to minimize impact in case of failures. The reason this is designed this way also has to do with pirating music, sharing of music with people that do not have authorization to have it due to copyright laws.
I'm sorry, I cannot see why you not having a backup of your computer is Apple's concern. I'd be willing to be that you have not set up any system for backing up your new computer either. Do you backup your iPhone?

  • My ipod is formated for windows xp. new laptop is windows 8. ipod wont update on new laptop, what do i do now?

my new laptop is windows 8. iPod is formatted for windows xp. new laptop knows iPod is there but wont update. how do I fix this?

    hey there oddball35,
It sounds like you are trying to update your iPod with your new computer. Without knowing the specific symptoms, I recommend you start with choosing the iPod model you have from the following website:
    iPod Troubleshooting Assistants
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If that does not resolve the issue, are you getting any error messages, or what specifically is preventing the restore from happening?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Hi! Help..not v. techy! I've just connected my ipod to my new laptop, I've synced it

I've plugged ipod into new laptop after downloading itunes and signing into my account. All my music is in the library and my ipod shows up. I've gona ahead and purchased some well needed new music which shows in my recent purchases in my itunes library but they haven't synced to my ipod. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting, I've made sure all songs were ticked, I've also unticked everything and just ticked the new songs but still no joy. I have my ipod set to sync automatucally when plugged in and this new laptop is auth'd. I'm not very technical and was hoping somebody could shed some light on this for me in the plainest of plain terms...otherwise said laptop and ipod may end up bounced out the window!!! Thanks guys!

  • I transferred my iTunes library/songs to new windows laptop; new laptop won't sync with iPod classic anymore - should I just overwrite iPod contents?

Need help syncing new laptop/iTunes with existing iPod

Carolyn - thanks, but I had already authorized my new laptop.  When I try to Sync, essentially nothing happens - for about a second iTunes says it's synchronizing my iPod, which it recognizes as mine, but then the iPod immediately says it's ready to disconnect.  The iPod has about 65 gigabytes of songs on it and for several years, with my old, original laptop, when I synced, iTunes would update any new downloads and playlists onto the iPod.  Since I got the new laptop, I have about 2-3 GB of new music on it and a few new playlists and they won't update to my iPod.  I hate to have to "restore" the iPod, which I think overwrites everything on the iPod and would likely take 3-4 hours at the 1 song per second figure I've seen quoted, but if that's the only way to do it, I guess I can.  Any other suggestions?

You can recover purchases by installing the latest version of iTunes to your laptop, then select the 'purchases' tab under Store in the sidebar and look at the lower left of the iTunes window for a link to: 'Download Previous Purchases'

  • How do I migrate to iTunes to a new laptop without losing my ipod content

I installed iTunes in my new laptop with Vista OS. I am hesitate to plug in my iPod to add new mp3s. I know that it will identify that this is a new IPOD and will ask to reformat the iPOD. I am afraid of losign my content. How do I migrate my itune configuration from my old computer to my new Vista laptop. Basically, I want new iTune to recognize my IPOD like the old computer. Do I just copy the Program Files/ITunes folder to the new computer? I am not sure where the IPOD configuration is stored in the old computer.
    Thanks.

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network it with the old one and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the old computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the new computer.
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. When I moved iTunes a while ago for my daughter I was also using the same version of iTunes, not sure how important that is but it's probably worth keeping them the same.
