New macbook pro release,  feedback response.

i've recently been trying to open a dialogue with Apple about my recent purchase of my macbook Pro, any ideas how best to get in touch or get a response?
I sent the following letter to both Irish and US offices but haven't heard back other than a general email requesting I fill in a survey, which I did, but still no response even though they "love feedback".
Any ideas who I can get in touch with? or anyone had a similar issue with a better outcome?
letter sent as below:
Hello
I recently purchased a mac book pro which I had been saving for, for months.
I was really excited to order it and I specked it up as much as possible with 8Gb Memory and 7200rpm drive and 3.06 intel core 2 duo processor.
Bought through my employee purchase scheme it cost me £2311.23, I was happy to spend it knowing that I’d got the fastest mac book pro available.
My partner and I are both designers working in graphics and we own and use nothing but Mac’s for this both at home and at work, between us we now own 3 Mac book Pro’s, 1 G5 2 iPhones and 2 iPods.
We count ourselves as loyal Apple customers and we really believe in your brand and it’s standard of quality, not only when it comes to products but service too.
I think this is why I was so disappointed to find out that 19days after my new Macbook Pro was delivered on 26th March Apple brought out a new one, with no prior warning.
It was my understanding that Apple had countdowns before new products were launched but there seemed to be no announcements of this new version being forthcoming on your site or any forums, when I was looking into purchasing mine. So I’m saddened to find that a mere few weeks after buying my Mac a better faster version is available and for less money too at £1986.93 (a saving of £324.30)
Unfortunately after telephoning one of your customer service advisors - on 14th April, I’ve been informed I cannot exchange my Mac for the newer release as I am 5 days past the return terms. This understandably leaves me feeling incredibly saddened as I placed my trust in Apple and the honesty of the brand to be rewarded with a more expensive, out of date Mac book Pro a few weeks after I took delivery of it. I feel a bit cheated, especially after spending so much money it feels as though I’ve been willfully mislead by apple and now I’m left without any option but to like it or lump it. Couldn’t Apple have informed me of their forthcoming new release when they saw the order I was putting through, and allowed me to decide if I wanted to wait for the newer and cheaper model. It feels slightly dishonest to me that Apple would knowingly sell a more expensive product that was about to become outdated.
I understand that it’s within Apple’s rights and the terms I agreed to on purchase, but I feel as though given that I’m a loyal home and professional user of Apple products some sort of gesture of good will would go a long way to re-establish my trust in Apple.
I hope to hear from you soon concerning this matter.

Prouser: If it was your understanding that Apple regularly provided "countdowns" prior to the launches of new products, you were sadly and utterly mistaken. Apple is famous throughout the industry and the world for its secrecy about new product releases. Always has been. Probably always will be. Should Apple completely shut down sales of its current products by preannouncing the arrival of their replacements? If it did, the new models would have to be priced higher to offset the cost of remaindering existing inventory of the previous models.
Everyone understands that technology marches relentlessly onward, growing more powerful and less expensive at every step. No matter when you buy, whatever you've bought will be succeeded by something faster and cheaper within weeks or months. How long would you have had to own your new MBP before a new model appeared, in order not to feel cheated? 21 days? 35? 60? Four months? A year? My first-generation unibody MBP is now 16 months old. Should I be outraged that Apple has introduced not one, not two, but three new iterations of 15" MBPs since I bought it? Well, I'm not. That's because I paid what I thought was a fair price for it when I bought it, and it did then and still does today everything I bought it for and more. The same can be said of yours. You got a great computer at a price you considered fair. Be happy about it.

  • New Macbook pro won't connect to older external hard drive

My old MacBook suddently died after seven years. It contained a lot of data that I had backed up on an external hard drive using TimeMachine and transferring files to it. When I hooked it up to my new MacBook Pro (released mid-2012 I think), I couldn't seem to connect. Any ideas why?

does it show up in disk utility at all?
Did you have a second NON time machine copy of vital data as should be the case?

  • Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

  • When is there going to be a new macbook pro/air release?

I have been saving my money up for sometime now to purchase either a new macbook pro or a new macbook air. I have been constantly checking the internet for any news regarding when the new releases of the macbook pro/air will be available. I was hoping that Apple would announce news regarding the new versions of the macbook when they presented the iPad but as you all probably know this did not happen.
My question is as follows: I do not want to purchase my new macbook until the new releases come out. With that being said I am growing impatient and have heard little news regarding this subject (presumably because of all the hype surrounding the iPad). Thus, could any of you more informed Apple analysts give me a ballpark figure on when you expect to see the new versions of the macbook pro/air for sale? I can and I will wait a couple of additional weeks for the new releases but I might cave in and buy one now if it is going to be a while before the new versions are released.
    Thanks,
    John Michael

You're in for a very long wait then, because there will always be something better, faster, sexier, newer around the corner ...
All hardware manufacturers operate in product cycles and you're right in thinking that if a model has been out for 18-24 months it's "likely" a revision is due, but that's a guess and nobody here knows (or if they do they are bound by NDA's not to reveal anything).

  • I want to buy a new Macbook pro 15 2.3Ghz which is currently on OS mountain lion. Can I upgrade it to OS Maverciks when it is released?

I want to buy a new Macbook pro 15 2.3Ghz which is currently on OS mountain lion. Can I upgrade it to OS Maverciks when it is released?

I realized I still had this as an open question, so I thought I would follow up. By calling around, I was able to locate a Macbook Pro that still had ILife 09, so I bought that.
But then I found out I could actually continue on with Ilife 08, but just wiping the new computer and reinstalling the first disc (system) but not the second one (ilife). So then when I used a Time Machine backup from my old computer to migrate to the new one, it simply continued on with O8. This made me even happier as I really was trying to avoid Faces in iPhoto 09.
Thank you for the input (I did read it back when you posted it; I just did not realize I needed to "close" the question.)

  • If I buy a new macbook Pro, will I get OS X 10.5 'free' when it's released?

I've been waiting for the new Macbooks for a long time, initally because I thought they were going to be released with OS X 10.5, but now that 10.5 has been pushed back, will I have to pay for it when it ships if I buy a new Macbook Pro this month?
    I hope not.
    Nick V

    Nick,
You're playing a losing game, man. OK, so you have waited this (however) long for an updated MBP. Now, you will delay further for the release of Leopard. By the time Leopard is released, and there is no guaranty that it won't be delayed further, another update to the MBP might be on the horizon. Even if a newer MBP isn't in the works, there will be speculation. In any event, you will wait some more.
Where does it end? Will you ever actually break down and purchase?
In the meantime, you lose out on enjoying a fine-running machine and OS.

  • Will a new MacBook Pro model be released with OS X Mavericks?

If so I'd like to refrain from purchasing a new MacBook Pro until it is released.

Yes of course and you can wait until it's released with 10.9 to purchase it.

  • How often does Apple release a new MacBook Pro?

I am planning on buying a MacBook Pro (unsure of the specific model right now) and I am wondering when Apple will release a new model so I can either buy the latest or buy an older one for a cheaper price. It's like getting a new phone- you buy an iPhone 5 with a 2-yr contract then the iPhone 5s and 5c come out. When I get an estimate as to when a new Macbook Pro will come out, I'll determine if I'll wait or not. This is a big decision, so I need the most accurate answer. Thanks for any help

Sorry, no one here can provide an answer.

  • Buy a new Macbook Pro now (15") or wait until Lion released?

Hi all. I have been planning to upgrade my two-year old Macbook Pro to a new model (the new one with the Thunderbold port, etc.). However, now that Lion has been announced and will be avail in the App store in July, I'm thinking it pays to wait until it is officially released... will Lion be installed on the new Macbook Pros beginning in July?
When I was a Windows user, I aways understood that it was better to wait for a new version of windows (if due out shortly) than to buy a new PC sooner, since an 'upgrade' to the OS is not as good as the newer OS coming pre-installed on the system itself.
Does all this make sense? Looking for input/advice. Thanks

if you wait until Lion is officially released, you will get it for free if you bought your MacBook after that date and it was not included. Usually you would find a voucher in the box, if not, proof of purchase was sufficient. That's how it was handled in the past - with physical media.
The hardware pre/post Lion will be the same for the 2011 model so I wouldn't see an advantage in having it preinstalled.
Whether instant gratification with a new MacBook is worth $30 is another question that only you can answer

  • How often are new models of MacBook Pros released?

I want to get a new MacBook Pro, but I'm not sure whether or not i should wait til a new model comes out.

There's no set schedule. The MacBook Pro (non-retina) was last updated in summer 2012 so it's overdue for a refresh. I would check http://buyersguide.macrumors.com.
If you can wait a few weeks, I would.

  • New MacBook Pro?

    Hi everyone!
I've been planning to replace my PowerBook G4 with a new MacBook Pro and was planning to do this over the summer, maybe as late as fall. I'm concerned about a change in the recently released MacBook Pros in that they all (except the 17") don't have a ExpressCard/34 slot. I was planning to use the slot for a FireWire 800 card so that I could have two independent FW ports, each with an independent 800 Mbps of bandwidth. One would be for external FW drives for audio, the other for my audio interface.
Without the ExpressCard slot, I would have to have both my external drives and audio interface share the same FW bus. AND, because my audio interface (and most interfaces I've seen) is only FW 400, I understand that all daisy-chained FW devices would operate at FW 400 speeds. With this configuration I'm concerned that there would not be enough bandwidth to handle both the audio interface and reading/writing audio from/to my external FW drives.
Also, I don't want the 17" because it's just too big and expensive. I would even consider the new 13" MBP if it had the ExpressCard slot and connect it to an external monitor. Maybe I should try to buy the previous 15" MBP so I can have the configuration I was planning on.
    Any thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tim

Thanks RealDave! AoE (and SAN) is new to me. I did a little poking around and now have a general understanding of the technology (basically connect a SATA drive to a host via fast Ethernet. My sense, though, is that this technology (like NAS) was developed more for enterprise data management. I'd be interested to know how common it is for MacBook Pro users to use SAN drives for reading/writing audio. I found one discussion that says you have to change the audio file format from AIF to BWF. See here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5706001&#5706001
Also, Coraid seems to be the most commonly referenced manufacture and, again, their products seem geared more to the enterprise. Do SAN AoE drive enclosures exist that are more comparable to the ever-popular USB and FireWire enclosures (i.e. desktop rather than rack-mount)?
Finally, I've seen some articles that compare speeds of SAN/AoE with Fibre Channel over Ethernet or iSCSI, but nothing comparing these with FireWire 400/800 or USB 2. Can it be assumed that SAN/AoE is faster, perhaps significantly, than FW 400 or even FW 800?
With all of this, it's still unclear if I should go with a previous generation MBP and use the ExpressCard slot for eSata or FW drive access (and live with the 6GB RAM limit), or go with the newly released MBP (13 or 15"), know that I can expand to 8GB RAM in the future, benefit from a slightly faster processor, and use SAN/AoE for accessing digital audio.
Thanks everyone for your responses so far. Very much appreciated.

  • New Macbook Pro Retina - Keeps freezing...

Picked up the brand new Macbook Pro Retina on Tuesday. Great piece of kit, however I have found the system has frozen a couple of times now meaning I have to reboot by holding down the power key.
Any advice? Obviously not what I would expect from a £1250 laptop after two days...

Seriously Apple, you make us pay so much money for a "great" product, yet all we are faced with are issues. Please fix this, or a lot of Apple enthusiasts, will start leaving.

  • Where do I enter my receipt redemption code from purchasing a new macbook pro (for free OS X Lion)? (Purchased 7/23/11)

I just purchased a new macbook pro and I am trying to download the new OS X Lion. I am eligible to download it for free because I purchased my macbook after July 21 when it was released. I have a redemption code on my receipt, but I don't know how or where to enter it.
Please give some helpful feedback. Thanks!

I know that you can buy lion for 29.99, but i should be getting it for free since i purchased a new macbook after lion was released. At the apple store they told me that i should be able to download for free with a link they provided me. however, i'm supposed to enter some kind of receipt code, and there's no place to enter it.
it is asking me to fill out billing and payment information when i shouldn't have to because again, i should be receiving the new software for free.

  • 10.5.2 = Slow new MacBook Pro

    Hello,
I recently installed the 10.5.2 update, and the Leopard Graphics Update 1.0, and my new MacBook Pro is more sluggish than before. i just purchased teh system last week, and I can certainly notice a speed difference after these updates. Applications take longer to open, and the finder is not as responsive. Has anyone else had these problems? Can this update be removed? I'm so disappointed, as my new system now feels slow!!
    Thank you for your help!!!!

They had you do what I would have. You can also try resetting the Pram:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Try this and see if it helps any. The Pram is your memory.
