New Maverick update, nothing is working

I recently updated my computer from Lion to Maverick and after that update, many of my apps will not open (including the App store) and many of the programs that I run will crash. The apps will blink and pretend like its opening, but it wont open. I don't know exactly what to do in this case. Has anyone occured this problem? What should I do?

If Eric's "reinstall over the top of your current install" doesn't fix your problems and you can't or don't want to debug what exactly is giving you problems.  Then your next best option is a clean install.  I've looked and there isn't a user tip for this but I think there should be (hint to those with enough points to write one).  I have fixed serveral Mac's this way.  It involves several hours of work but is very effective in giving you back the mac you love.
Basic steps
1) Make a clone of your current system (I like carbon copy cloner but there are others)
2) Boot from a mavericks usb or from a mavericks recovery partition, erase Macintosh HD and then reinstall
3) Sign in with your cloud and let the mac finish setting itself up, MIGRATE NOTHING
4) Now copy the contents of your Document, Music, Movies, Pictures, Downloads from the clone to the respective locations on your fresh install
5) Reinstall your applications (only what you really need)
What you now have is a factory fresh installation of Mavericks, newly installed applications, and all or least most of your data. This will cause you to redownload your mailbox from the servers which, depending on how many emails you have, could take time.  If you have locally stored mail you won't see it until you find those mailboxes on the clone and import them.  Customizations to your dock, input devices and such will need to be setup again....I did say it was several hours of work .  The cloud has made this much much easier than it once was.
Good luck.

  • New Maverick update :(  Help

Hi, Upgraded to the new Mavericks on my macbook pro 2010. The applications don't work any longer i.e calender, contacts, messages, app store. Also itunes doens't recognize my iphone when connected. Help pls.

Apple changed the behavior of the Power button in 10.9 Mavericks.
Press the button once, and it puts your display to sleep. Press and hold it for a second or two, and the Shutdown / Restart / Sleep dialog appears. Press and hold it for even longer, and your Mac gets completely powered off.

  • New Airport Update no longer works with my Verizon supplied DSL WiFi

While at work today (03-28-08) I allowed the new Airport software update to install. This was done over an ethernet connection. I arrived home, my Macbook will not recognize the Westel DSL modem/WiFi that I've had for some time and was provided by Verizon. It keeps asking for a password and this is a WiFi set up without a password.
I'm writing this on my wife's Macbook of the same vintage but without the Airport update.
Any suggestions on how to move back to the old version of airport so I can get back to work again? Any chance there will be another update to fix this problem? Help, I don't really want to run an ethernet cable across my house to fix this.
I'm fearing that this is the same problem my father had when he visited with his Macbook Pro with Leopard.

Hi Jeff, i had the same issue after i updated the to the latest airport software install this morning(3/29/08).
I think you're going to have to update your Westell Modem.
Give the following a try, it worked for me.
    Go to:
    http://netservices.verizon.net/portal/site/msa/?epi_menuItemID=c567d167631f69212 4525d7253295c48&bookmark=helpitem&case=VersaLinkFix
Now look at the model number under the modem itself and download the correct upgrade.
If you download using the mac, you will see a .upg file begin to download. Once its downloaded you have to log into the Westell modem by either the IP address or just by going to http://dslrouter/ .
Then you have to look for the upgrade menu and your going to choose local upgrade and select the .upg file. at that point it will take about 4-5 minutes for your Westell to upgrade itself and start working again with you macbook's wireless.
Hope it helps, Good luck and let us know if it worked for you.

  • New T400 but nothing much works... Installed all drivers but...

It is starting to feel a bit strange. New install Vista Business and Office 2007.
Downloaded every last bit of drivers from Lenovo but nothing but crap.
    * Wireless card is not seen by system (switch is turned on)
    * Power Management does not work, only on and off...
    * Fingerprint reader is not seen by system
    * ThinkVantage-button does not work at all
    * No Fn-keys show on-screen (battery, sleep, wireless etc)
I get about four-five error messages after booting and logging in, all from Display (default), Communication-driver.
Yesterday I called Sweden, closed for Lenovo calls, referred to USA who said "Sorry, no support, must call Sweden...." NOT COOL AT ALL LENOVO!!!
Has anyone got one of these T400 to actually work?? Will consider return if not fixed this week..
Please guide me if you know what's wrong!

  • New Internal Update Server Not Working

I just set up an internal update server for Flash on a Windows server running IIS7 following the instructions in the admin guide.
I had a Windows 7 64-bit client already running the latest version of Flash, so I uninstalled it and installed flash 11.7 last night. I also manually copied the mms.cfg file with auto update enabled and pointing to the server at server.domain.com.
There are the settinngs in the mms.cfg
    AutoUpdateDisable=0
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1
    SilentAutoUpdateServerDomain=servernameofserverhostingadobeupdates.ourdomainname.com
I can open the path to the xml file through the browser from the client I want to update, so I know it does have web connectivity to the server.
The mms.cfg file seems to be working because the Flash settings in control panel has the allow Adobe to check for updates button selected and grayed out.
I waited overnight and nothing is happening.  No updates.  It is still on 11.7.
How long is this supposed to take?
How can I troubleshoot this to see what's going on with it?.  I see no errors anywhere, just nothing is happening.  I can't find logs that indicate that it is even "trying" to update from this server.  Where should this be?
Can I prompt it to immediately check for updates from our internal server and control how often it checks?  When I click te check updates button, it still opens a browser and sends me to the Adobe web site.

I notice there are often no replies to questions about problems with the internal update server.
Is there anyone here who has recently gotten this to work?
Are there common issues with the setup of an internal updates server that cause it to fail?
Is there some other place to get support for this other than this forum?

  • Mac os mavericks update won't work

Everytime I try and update my software it says that "the Mac OS X Mavericks" can't be saved, and 'connection reset by peer'. I have no idea what any of this means and would really appreciate some help on updating my software as many apps that I would like to download need the latest Mac OS X Mavericks. I have a MacBook Air that I purchased in early 2013, so I dont think that my computer model is too old.

"Connection reset by peer" usually means your internet connection reset itself.
Also, do you have sufficient free disk space to save the upgrade?

  • My iPhone 5 is not being recognized by my Onkyo TX-8050 reciever when plugging into the USB.  Is there a setting on my phone i need to set?  Also, it has worked prior with this receiver however after the new software update will not work.

I am trying to hook up my iPhone 5 to my Onkyo TX-8050 receiver and it is not recognizing the phone. It recogized my phone prior to software update 7.1.2 and I can use an iPhone 4 and iPad with no issues.  Is there a setting I need to apply for the reciever to recognize?

Im presently on the Phone with Apple the Lady Im talking to understands its the id and not the password. I finally got somebody that listened to me. Wow and she is plesent to talk to.

  • Since the Maverick update I am unable to save any work that I do in CS6 software programmes on my mac

With the new update I am unable to save my work that I have done when using the CS6 software, this is a real problem as I need to be able to save any changes I do. I also can't search files on my USB when I go to file-open while in Photoshop, Illustrator or Indesign. Please help as this is a real issue and has only been happening since the new Maverick update.
    Thanks, Julia.

Being that Adobe stopped supporting CS6 a while ago, that is likely not going to happen.   They're trying to force everyone to use CC, which I heard is having troubles since Marvericks as well. At least they will get a free Adobe update.
This is incorrect information. Adobe has issued updates for several CS6 products since CC came out, consistent with their official statements that they will continue to support CS6, which they still sell new (though the links are hard to find on their store).
Photoshop released a 13.0.6 update for CS6 on Nov. 7, it would be a good idea to make sure you have gotten the latest version even though a save problem is not mentioned in the release notes. Maybe it'll help anyway.

  • IPhoto won't install update and won't allow me to access my photos since I installed the Maverick update

Since I installed the new Maverick update, iPhoto crashes on my Macbook Pro at the final stages of install and I am not able to acces my photos because a widow pop up telling me that iPhoto is being updated but it is not updating.  What do I do now?

  • Wireless mouse fails after Mavericks update

I've been using a BTC wireless keyboard/mouse combo (see attached photo) with my 2011 Mac Mini since
MacOSX 10.6.  Never had an issue. However, after the Mavericks update, the keyboard works, but the
mouse does not. These keyboards use RF (not bluetooth).  I've tried powering down and zapping the
    PRAM.   Any suggestions?
keyboard part works, but the mouse part no longer operates.

I found the following steps will unfreeze the trackpad:
    1. Use Command + Space to launch Spotlight
    2. Type "System Preferences" in Spotlight to open the System Preferences program
    3. Inside of the search field in System Preferences, type "mouse"
    4. Press the "Enter" key to oper the mouse preferences
At this point, the trackpad will unfreeze.
If you leave System Preferences open after you've completed the steps above, when the trackpad freezes again, you can use Command + Tab to bring System Preferences to the top of your windows.  Doing so will unfreeze the mouse.
Very annoying, but better than a reboot if you're presenting in front of people.  I hope Apple fixes this soon.

  • MacBook Pro won't restart after Mavericks update

I recently installed the new Mavericks update  on my MacBook Pro and after downloading Pages, Keynote etc. I had to restart. When I try to restart however, the Apple logo appears with the progress bar but as soon as the bar is full it switches off.

    Hello SerenAlyx
Check out the articles below to go over troubleshooting the issue of the grey bar when you are starting up your Mac. It will go over starting up in Safe mode as well as booting to your Recovery Disk to maybe reinstall OS X Mavericks.
Gray progress bar appears under Apple logo during startup

  • Why didn't Numbers download with Maverick update? It says I have to pay $20 for it? I thought it was free? What did I do wrong?

Numbers didnt download with my new maverick update. To my understanding, its supposed to be free? Is this correct? Now its saying I have to spend 20 dollars to download it. What went wrong? How do I fix it?
    Thanks

It is not free as part of upgrading to Mavericks.  It is free if you owned a previous version only - the upgrade is free for people who already have iWork apps.
Or, if you bought a complete new Apple computer on or after Oct.1, 2013 it is free.
Otherwise, if you've never owned any iWork app at all, you have to buy it.

  • Google search box in mid screen accepts text but is inactive. Adobe reader does not now function with Firefox. Both are new since update. Thanks

    1. The google search box in the middle of the FF page accepts text but is not active since my update. The search bar box works.
    2. Adobe reader does not seem to work with the new update. eg. Epost suggested I update Reader which I did but it still doesn't work. New since update. It works with Safari which I dislike or i would simply change.
    Thanks
    David

Does that box still Shows the Google text?
Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Current Firefox versions use the default search engine (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename) to set the search engine that is used on the about:home page.
Check the <b>browser.search.defaultenginename</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.
    *browser.search.defaultenginename
You can check if you still have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the searchplugins folder in Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.

  • Since updating to Mavericks, Mail doesn't work properly.  It just stops working (no error messages--it just won't check for new mail) and I must shut it down and reopen it to get it working again.  Any suggestions?

Since updating to Mavericks, Mail doesn't work properly.  It just stops working (no error messages--it just won't check for new mail) and I must shut it down and reopen it to get it working again.  Any suggestions?

Try to force quit the mail app
Double tap the home button. When you see the app previews on the screen scroll sideways if needed to get the preview in question on the screen. Flick that preview up and off the screen to close the app. Single tap the home button or home screen preview to exit the mode.
Failing that, go into the settings, mail, contacts and calendars and remove your account info then put it back in and see if that works

  • What should I do if my keyboard is not working after updating to new OS Mavericks update?

I have a 13" MacBook Pro that was purchased in January 2014. Recently I installed the recommended updates for OS Mavericks on my computer. I rebooted the computer as recommended and when I went to login lo and behold my keyboard will not function. None of the keys will work so I couldn't even put in my login password to even see what the problem was. Naturally I went to all the apple forums I could, to find a solution and none of them seem to work. I reset the PRAM and SMC and still cannot get the keyboard to function. While under disk utility the keyboard functions just fine. But It will not function in a regular setting. I am very upset and frustrated with Apple as the issue is a software issue with OS Mavericks and Apple has yet to acknowledge a problem, meanwhile this is the second time in less than a month that I've had major issues after downloading Mavericks updates. I hope apple can resolve this issue.

Keep it connected to the Power for a while.
