New message number inaccurate
I rebuilt my index at Mail's suggestion. After all the messages were imported, the new mail number on the dock icon is over 6000. I have a smart mailbox set up with unread as its only parameter - it is still reflecting the correct number of new messages. I have marked all messages as read and restarted - no help.
Any ideas?

I don't think this is a preferences issue, but if you want to try that, the procedure would be as follows:
1. Quit Mail.
2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this fixes the problem).
4. Open Mail. You'll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don't. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
You'll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it's enabled.
5. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail may have renamed Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn't be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

For creating Validations go to GGB0.
In the step itself you will have message also.
you will find a change (pencil) button, click on tht it will take to new screen and there you can create a new message with number.
Activate the Validation in GGB4.

I moved to the UK a week ago and popped a new SIM in my unlocked iPhone 4 (all the latest software installed, 6.1.3, though I see in the drop-down below that there's a .4? My phone says it is up to date anyway). Since then, I have done a lot of texting to people back home in Canada. Of course, for economical reasons, I am using iMessage. When I'm talking to them, if I have messages open, and my screen hasn't gone to sleep, then I'm fine. But if the screen goes to sleep or I'm doing something else and I try to reply by way of any sort of notification where the phone redirects me to the message (when I tap a banner or unlock while an alert is showing), instead of sending me to where I can reply, it starts a whole new text message with the person's phone number in a UK format instead of their contact name. Their message is in the iMessage conversation history where it belongs, but I can't read it in full until I cancel the 'New Message' and open their conversation in the Messages list.
So far, I have tried:
-Simple things like restarting my phone, resetting it, etc.
-Changing the format of their number to include country code, to not include country code, to have the plus, to not have it, etc.
-Changing where my messages come from, be it my phone number or my iCloud, etc.
-Updating iCloud to make sure it knows I'm in the UK.
-Resetting everything in the reset menu one at a time (I had hopes for settings and the Location & Privacy ones, but no).
-Erasing all content and settings and restoring my phone from a backup.
I've pretty much messed with every setting, but please let me know any suggestions you have, I may have missed one.
It does seem as if the format of my contacts has something to do with it, because I don't get a notification at all if I change the setting "Show iMessage Alerts From" to contacts only. The iMessage goes through to the iMessage conversation, but the alerts I get seem to think it's a text message as it comes through with a sample of the message in the alert under their phone number. It's only when I try to reply through an alert that it screws up. I know this may seem small but it's driving me nuts, especially because I don't memorize people's phone numbers anymore so I don't know who sent the message until I exit the new message and look it up!

How to change number of new messages
Is there a way to change how iCloud shows the number of new messages from including the whole thread of messages?
ie - it shows the number of all old messages in a thread when there's just one new message.The only way to do so with Tiger Mail is by using the Activity Viewer.
At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Window and select Activity Viewer or use the Apple/Command key - Command/number 0 key.
I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced, thru Panther and now Tiger and I've always preferred keeping the Activity Viewer window open.
I keep the Activity Viewer window at the bottom right just below the bottom of the Mail.app window. -
HT3529 New Phone Number Linking to Messages
I have a new phone number and am having trouble getting the new number to appear on my iPhone 4S under the Messages/Settings.
Even though the old number has been deactivated, messages are still being sent/received by the old number.
It's been approximately 72 hours since the new number went into effect. How do I get this to update?Hi,
For me this method did not work.
However as you can see from the other posts for some people it does.
There is not really enough info to determine what was different about those that worked.

Add telephone number to Start new messages from
My wife and I both have iphone and we have an ipad. On messaging from the ipad, we would like to have both numbers available to "Start new Messages from" How do i add another number to the ipad in that area?
Actually, it is possible, but I find that it causes more problems than its worth - for me and my wife anyway. I should qualify this by saying that as long as all of the iPhone numbers are associated with one shared Apple ID, it's possible to do this.
Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at> Check the phone number that you want to start the conversation from in there. Of course, the phone number has to be listed in there in the first place and you have to remember to change it every time you each want to shows your own number.
This should explain to you how to add all of your phone numbers if the are not already listed in there.

Basically, you have to sign out of Messages on all devices, then sign in again on the phones to be able to add the numbers to the iPad. -
Mail application fails to indicate the number of new messages. Any ideas how to fix this?
Ever since I upgraded to to OS 10.6, my Mail application fails to indicate the number of new messages. Any ideas how to fix this? It does, indicate how many new messages arrive on my comcast email account. It only fails to indicate the number of new emails arriving in my @mac.com account. Strangely enough, my devices--iPad and iPhone--indicate the number of new emails arriving in both accounts.

New Messages sound quits after several messages have arrived. I've tried several passes at resolving but nothing I have done seems to work. Sometimes I have to reboot the imac several times to get the New Messages Sounds back. Everything else works. The only thing I haven't done is reinstall the OS and that seems foolhardy.

Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

Why doesn't the new message indicator number match the number of new messages I have or don't have?
I am using a MacBook Pro and the new message indicator has stopped tracking correctly. For example, I have read all the messages in the inbox and the new message indicator still says that I have 5 new messages. Other times I have a new message and it is not registering with the indicator.
I have tried shutting Mail down and reopening it. This does reconcile the indicator but does not solve the problem. I have checked for and installed any updates. I am using Mail Version 7.3 (1878.6) and OS X Version 10.9.4

Each time i want to send a SMS to a new phone number not registerd in contacts, the historical list appears.
How can I reset this list and clean it ?Open a Write window. If all the toolbars are missing press the alt key to make the menu bar appear.
From the menu bar select View-Toolbars and turn the missing toolbars back on. -
Mail.app stopped downloading new messages from pop3
Hello,
I met this on both the latest Tiger and Panther: came after two weeks away and had no new mail. Strange. The Mail.app logins to pop3 server, sends a password, looks for the new messages, and that's all. Nothing is downloaded.
When I checked the mail via web browser, I had found about 600 messages there - most of them just a spam, as usual.
Whatever I tried (permissions, delete and create account, rebuild...) nothing helped.
BUT.
When I *manually deleted* some messages (via web browser), Mail.app started downloading. For me it looks like there is some message number limit, about 500 messages, and if there are more messages on the server, nothing is downloaded. I believe it's a bug - at least some error message should appear.By the way, my Mail App is version 5.3

How to create email to Support Team when NEW message created in SupportDesk
Hi there,
I have been sitting with this for a while now, and am quite frustrated. I want to know whether it is possible to generate an email notification to the Support Team in the Service Desk whenever a new message is created by the user. So far, the Org Structure is correctly set up in PPOMA_CRM. The rule CRM_DNO_1 (13200137) is configured and works. Application CRM_ORDER with Action Profile SLFN0001_ADVANCED is configured, and by standard config works by correctly determining the responsible Support Team per SAP Component whenever a new message is created. Lastly, I have configured my own Action Definition that sends an email to the user (Reported By) to notify him whenever the Status of the message changes (like to In Process or Confirmed etc), which works.
Now, whenever a new message is created by a user in the satelite system, it gets created in Service Desk and the Reported By, Sold-to-Party and Support Team are determined and the status of the message is NEW. When looking at the message in Service Desk under Actions, the only action assigned so far is the "SLFN0001_ADVANCED_FIND_PARTNER - Find support team responsible, when message is created" action. Now, the issue is this: how do you assign an action to the message straight after the Support Team determination, but before any other processing takes place in the message (meaning, you have to click on Change in Service Desk to start processing the message - when doing this, additional actions are assigned). I have created my own Action Definition (copy of SLFN0001_ADVANCED_FIND_PARTNER) and added another Processing Type after the Method Call (CRM_DNO_PARTNER_1) to email a Smartform (Processing Type = Smart Forms Mail) to the Support Team. But from here things just dont work - either it skips the Support Team determination, or it doesn't process the SmartForm type at all. Even by creating a standalone Action Definition and using Partner Determination / Function SLFN0003 (Support Team - almost same like to notify the Reported By about status changes to the message), this newly-defined action doesn't even list under Actions in the message whenever a new message is created. Only after clicking on Change in the message does this action for the first time list and execute, which is pointless - you don't want someone to open the message first and change it to enable notification of the Support Team of a new message; this should happen as soon as the message gets created.
So, if there is anyone out there who has done this before, please help, it would be much appreciated.Gavin,
I managed to get this working in our system.
This is what I did:
- action ZSLFN0001_ADVANCED_FIND_PRTNR (copy of SLFN0001_ADVANCED_FIND_PARTNER): changed in processing type the method to ZCRM_DNO_PARTNER_1 which I created as described in note 1041455. The Sort Order of this action has the same number as the original action of SAP (nr. 10 in my case).
- I created another action Z_MAIL_TO_SUPPORTTEAM_OPEN with Sort Order one higher than the previous (nr. 11 in my case).

Mail notification sound plays after I have read a new message
When a new message comes in, the mail sound does not play right away. Often I will see the email and read it. Then, some time after I've finished and the screen is locked again, the sound plays.
This problem occured with iOS 4 and still happens in iOS 5.Hi,
I have had chats/conversations that have shown the blue "unread" indicator which goes if you reselect the chat but appears again when you select another Chat.
I have also had the red Unread number indicator showing on the Dock icon badge as a separate issue.
This second I have resolved in Force Quitting the DOCK in Activity Monitor ( I will use Terminal but prefer an User Interface option).
The first I tend to solve by dismissing that particular Chat/Conversation.
As you have tried the DOCK reset method by both the recommended methods of doing so I would try a PRAM/NVRAM reset.
Restart the Mac holding down the CMD+ALT+P+R keys all at the same time until you have heard three Start up Bongs.
You can then let the Start up Continue.
