New to the Passport... A few questions to be answered please...

Coming from a Z30 which was with Telus. The phone was great but with Telus had nothing but problems.
Told my company that I wanted to go back with Rogers so at the same time I decided to make the jump to a Passport.
Just a few questions on the differences between the Z30 and the Passport...
#1- I noticed that if I push the button on the top of the Passport (top right) when the "home screen #1" comes on, the time and date plus my screen name and additional are displayed. Why is my screen name and additional info slightly offset to the left and not centered below the date and time?
#2- Once the screen display fades out, if I then swipe my finger across it, a new version of the "home screen" (call it home screen #2) appears with a different time and date arrangement and with no screen name and additional info. Is this normal?
#3- Am I correct to assume that once you swipe the display back on (on home screen #2) no icons show up and you must swipe it again to get to the icons. On the Z30 the initial home screen had the icons on it. So is this normal for the Passport?
#4- Finally I find that "home screen" pretty boring with its gray shade. Can I load up a background picture to it like on the Z30? If yes how do I do it?
Thanks,
Mike

1. I assume you are talking about lock screen message. It is what it is.
2 & 3. You are referring again to the lock screen, and lock screen notifications.
When you swipe up and go to the home screen, the default setting is wallpaper with no icons. There is now a setting to disable this in Display settings.
4. You can set your own wallpaper. That hasn't changed.

    In very few words:
COMMIT is just end's a transaction. While trigger is being executed the transaction is in it's middle state so it can't be ended.

  • New WD My Passport for Mac - questions!

    Hi, everyone,
I just bought a new WD My Passport for Mac 1 TB. I am going to use it to run Time Machine and then drag and drop pertinent files that I need. From there, I am doing a clean install of Mountain Lion. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro.
I just have a few questions.
    1. I read that there are big issues with this and Mavericks/Yosemite. If I ever upgrade, am I am going to lose everything or has that since been resolved?
    2. How do I install it? When I read the manual, I am not sure if I am supposed to install the software (because of issues with point 1), just plug & play, how to do Time Machine, and so on.
I have another My Passport from a few years back, but don't remember how to set it up.
If someone can dumb it down for me, I'd really appreciate it. I am looking to do a Time Machine, then drag over various documents, my Music folder, iPhoto Library, Mail exports, and a few other things.

Thank you again. It's really nice there are people like you willing to give their time to help others.
An update: My Passport (not named that!) is backing up via Time Machine as we speak. Next step is to copy the files that I need over to the hard drive. I already have on another hard drive, but I figure it is better to be safe than sorry.
My question for you is basically if there is anything I should try to think about or remember to bring over. These are the things that I use regularly and what I have done on the other drive and will do here:
    - Microsoft Office (mostly just Word): I will reinstall the disk, I have the activation code, and I will drag over all of my files
    - iMovie: I've made one movie, and I like it, and I dragged it over and tested it on another MacBook and know it works
    - iPhoto: I will drag over iPhoto Library
    - Mail: I have exported all of my Mailboxes, will re-import them, and then re-set up my accounts
    - iTunes: I dragged over iTunes Music from the Music > iTunes > iTunes Music folder (?)
    - iCal/Notes: logging back into iCloud should do it
    - Stickies: I know there is a database in the ~library ... do I just drag that over?
    - Chrome: I will download it again
    - my printer: I think I just go to the site to download the driver
    - Airport Express: does that just work on its own?
    - Dropbox: I will redownload it but, heck, I might just drop my account
    - Bookmarks are exported from Chrome
    - iCal is exported, just in case.
    - Contacts are exported, just in case
I don't THINK there is anything else I am forgetting that I might use regularly and not realize it. Do you have any suggestions of something I might be missing? I do have an iPhone backup I might want to snag (I know it is stored elsewhere...) but I am thinking of wiping that clean, too.
Should I take note of any specific security or user settings I have (other than basics, like colors and that sort of stuff)
I am nervous that I will forget something but excited to have a nice, fresh new MacBook and fool myself into thinking I got to treat myself to something new!

  • New iMac owner, but a few questions!

Hey all, just got a Brand New iMac yesterday, first Mac computer owned and loving it so far, but I have a few questions.
iChat: I have my AIM name on there, but whenever someone sends me a message, a very small box pops up asking if I want to accept or decline, even if I have them in my buddy list. Any way to turn that off? I looked through the settings, couldn't find anything.
iTunes: Is there anyway to fully close out of iTunes? Whenever I X out of it, the music still plays, and it seems as though iTunes is still open until I hit the Command+Q. Then when I re-open it, it leaves off where it was. What I am wondering is if you are able to completely close out of it with Xing it out.
Preview: If I open a photo, it automatically opens with Preview, when I X out of it, Preview is still in the Dock until I right click and click "close." Anyway to get around that as well?
Also, what Application would you recommend for a College student typing term papers and whatnot? And are there Applications to download for free? Like....I cant think of an example.
I'm sorry for all the questions, but I've been a Windows user all my life, just trying to get used to the iMac.

Hi GeneticFusion: Welcome ot the world of Mac. I could tell by your description that you are an Ex-Windows user. You are on the right track with the Command Q idea. This is the proper way to completly close a program. You could also go to the name of the open program, click and select "Quit <Program>. As to a program to use to type term papers, check out NeoOffice. It is free, and available at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php
    Enjoy

  • New to mac, got a few questions

ok so I'm looking a buying a new macbook soon and I had a few questions.
    1. is there any difference between airport and wifi, or is it the same thing, just different names.
    2. I currently have a Linksys wrt54gs wireless router, will this work, or do I need to buy an apple made product?

    1) Airport Extreme is the marketing term that Apple gives to their Wi-Fi cards.
    2) Yes! Your Mac will work just fine with that router.
    Welcome to the light side!

  • Learning new Techniques: The best way to pick stuff up - ideas please!

I am a keen illustrator user, and have been for years. It would be fair to say that I'm not n00b any more (although working with some of the people i do, they might say i am!)
In my experience, my personal artwork and enthusiasm levels setup when I have learnt a new technique (do you know what I mean? trying out your new skill can lead to you creating some amazing art)
I just wanted to hear about the experiences of other people when learning... do you prefer video tutorials? (and is free or purchased best?) Magazines, d you read the actual manual?? (I have to confess I never have read the Illustrator Manual!)or just pure experimentation....
    Daisy

I learned a ton just by lurking here. There are some smart people posting on this forum.
Also, all the sample brushes and patterns and symbols, etc... that come with Illy are meant to show you what it can do. Pick them apart and in doing so, learn how the appearance pallet (panel?) works, as well as many of the effects...

  • Thinking about getting a new macbook pro, just a few questions first --

    Hey guys,
I've been a mac user for about 5 years now and I love them. I've had a white 2.0 c2d macbook for about a year now. I primarily used this macbook for work, and my PC desktop for occasional games. I was thinking about getting a mac pro to do some gaming since my PC desktop broke about 2 months ago, but recently I've been getting more expenses so my wallet has grown thinner. So now I don't really have enough cash to get the mac pro. I also can't sell the macbook for a mac pro because I need something mobile for work. What I can do though is sell my macbook and get a macbook pro.
My question to you guys is, how do you like your macbook pro as a desktop replacement? I have a dell 2407-HC monitor as well to use with it. Does it game well over boot camp? I know cider hasn't yielded good performance, so please stick to bootcamp reviews. I'm not looking at anything really really intense, as I don't really have time to do as much gaming as I used to, but it'd be nice if it could run the orange box (mostly team fortress 2), dawn of war dark crusade, assassin's creed (when it comes out), and possibly the warhammer online mmo or age of conan mmo.
The other question is whether or not I should wait for a new one. Macrumors says that it's been about 150 days, and the macbook pros are updated every 180 days or so. I've already waited a few months since my desktop broke to see if the mac pro was going to be updated for penryn, but now the situation has changed, and now it looks like I might have to wait if I want a macbook pro. So, to wait or not to wait?
Any other opinions are welcome as well. Thanks.

    What's the beneift of buying 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 instead of 2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7?
Benefit of the QUAD core and the BASE UNIT 13" is extra cores for "heavy" photo and video editing and dedicated graphics
On 95% of things you wouldnt notice a difference, web viewing, typing, youtube, etc. Simple APPS
    http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs-retina/
The 2.6 is DUAL CORE, not quad core.
    On the top model:
    Intel Iris Pro Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching

  • New 2 Mac Just A few Questions.

So I have a new macbook. I just ordered the apple wireless keyboard and mouse and the dvi adapter. I plan on hooking it upp to my 42inch lcd. What settings do I have to go in and change for all of this to happen and me being able to close my macbook but still being able to use it without the hard disk turning off.

Hi Ultravox. I just got the same rig as a refurb, tax free no less due to this being my state's tax holiday. Good call on the memory as I just ordered my extra from Crucial a few days ago and it's already here - and WAY cheaper than Apple's.
My 2 cents, the nVidia card gets a pretty bum wrap. While it's true the ATI would be better for gaming, I don't think it will make any difference for straight video editing that is, without a lot of realtime motion effects. To the extent you have such you can just render to view, which will be really fast with these CPU's. I've looked at all the benchmarks and what it means for games is to get playable frame rates on some of the 3D titles you will have to lower the resolution. Not ideal, but I think acceptable for a light duty gamer. I have to do this now on my G4, which has an even less capable video card than the 7300. I considered buying a new 2.0 GHz machine and getting the ATI as a custom option (if new) or add-on kit (if a refurb), but decided I could live with the 7300 for a year or so and upgrade later. To get the 2.66 with the ATI would have busted my budget. For long-term use, the processor upgrade is worth more, since graphics cards change constantly and can be upgraded easily. It may also be that Apple comes out with some more graphic card options going forward, as I'm not that thrilled with some of the complaints I read on how noisy the ATI can be. It would be nice to have an option in between the nVidia 7300 and the ATI. Here is a fairly positive review of the 7300, although, admittedly not being used for any gaming.

         2. Fill out and submit this form. Select the topic, Account Security. You must
have a Rescue Email to use this option.

  • Few questions before I order please.

If I get the £12 package is everything included in the price? Movies + OnDemand?
If I get the £4 package is it easy to accidentally watch an OnDemand program and get charged? Can I put a pin on to stop the kids buying stuff?
Does Vision ever cause problems with your broadband?
    Thanks.

The box will come with powerline adaptors. This means you can put the box in any room, and by them [the powerline adaptors] it will connect to your hub via the electrical riingmain circuit in your home.
Before you go for the £4 ooption, check out the on demand vision content, as this is held by many on here to be one of the plus points. Box sets of TV programmes, kids TV, films, documntaries.  If you decide to watch say all the Dr Who series you will find them, Spooks etc etc.
With the £12.50 you can choose what you want to view, when you want to view it.
Our grandson always pleased to see Thomas the Tank Engine and Mickey's clubhouse etc...........
You can soon eat up the difference between £4 a month to £12.50 a month.
    Check it out.

For the past 2 hours, I have been sitting at this computer trying to authorize my computer and sync my iPod Touch.  Try and try as I might, however, I still cannot manage to log in to iTunes.  I've looked through 4 other discussions, read the 'Help' bar from head-to-toe, and even changed my Firewall settings, but the same message still keeps popping up.  It says, and I quote, "We could not complete your iTunes store request.  The network connection timed out."  Well, isn't that WONDerful news.  If anyone has a valid suggestion beyond iTunes *****, which I know, PLEASE tell me.

  • FI questions to be answered

    Dear SAP Champs,
I have few questions to be answered

    2. Can different currencies be given to different depreciation areas?
    3. How can you restrict the check printing to a particular location and particular user in case of multiple branch setups?
    4. Do we use same bank accounts in APP and BRS?
5.How many variants we can create at a time in APP?
    6. If fiscal years are different for 2 different company codes with USD and INR currencies respectively, how do you generate combined reports in USD currency?
    7. Is it possible to have different currencies for GL accounts under one chart of accounts? If yes, what is the significance?

Moderator: Please, respect the rules, avoid asking basic or 'quiz' questions and ask only one question per thread

    Hi,
    1. Is it possible to give a depreciation key to multiple depreciation areas?
    Yes
    2. Can different currencies be given to different depreciation areas?
    Yes
    3. How can you restrict the check printing to a particular location and particular user in case of multiple branch setups?
You can define the validation or can restrict the access to the user via authorization objects. Please contact your BASIS team to set this up
    4. Do we use same bank accounts in APP and BRS?
Yes, we generally use the same Bank Clearing Account in APP and BRS for clearing posting. In APP, the offset goes to vendor and in BRS, offset goes to main bank Account.
5.How many variants we can create at a time in APP?
If you are talking about the variants in the F110 screen printout tab, then you can give upto 40 variants in a payment run for a print program
    6. If fiscal years are different for 2 different company codes with USD and INR currencies respectively, how do you generate combined reports in USD currency?
You need to define the group currency as USD and have to assign these two company codes to a company. Please search SDN and net for detailed setup.
    7. Is it possible to have different currencies for GL accounts under one chart of accounts? If yes, what is the significance?
Yes, different GL master can have different currency for posting. Please note that SAP stores the amount in document currency, local currency and group curency in parallel.
