New user: Problems placing text over object

Hi,
I have recently started using InDesign CS5 to produce the biannual magazine for a volunteer organisation. My background is not in this area, so please excuse me if I do not use correct terminology or am asking something obvious. Having said that I have been very impressed with the ease of the programme to use for what we need.
I am having a problem with the document I am currently working in, however if I place the same elements in a different document things are ok, so I know it is something I have accidently done, but after a lot of playing around I am at a loss.
My issue is when I place an Object (a photo for the cover) and then try to place text over the top the text disappears on the object, however can be seen when you take it off it. You see the text box with the red cross mark in the bottom right corner. If you ask to "bring to front" nothing happens. Same if you try it using the photo. Oher objects (logo) can be placed on top of the photo. I have tried using Layers, but to no success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Creating new users problems

When I created a new account in workgroup manager, after the new user tried to log-in on client's side, the computer could not find their home folder, then I found out the Xserve did not create home folder when they logged-in, so I had to create a new home folder by hand, then changed the authorities of the folder every time.
Dose anyone have the same issue like me? How can I solve this?

Are you running OS X Server 10.5? Or is this an earlier version of the OS? Depending on which version of the OS you need to set up a Sharepoint where the home directories are hosted. When that's established, it should be listed in the Home Directory pane of Workgroup Manager.

When i start up imac it goes through set up creates a new user account then starts over againj, when i start up imac it goes through set up create user account then starts over again over and over

when i start imac it goes through set up gets to creating new user account then it re boots and does it all again and again and again

New user problems

I changed over to BT mail yesterday and have the follows problems
1) The reading pane is far too small for me. I am visually impaired and need a bigger font size without taking the text off the edge of the screen.
2) I don't have the x to close e-mails
3) The folders don't stay open
4) constantly being timed out

There's an option in settings to change the font size.
I think its small-medium-large-extra large.
Of course it's only applicable to email composition, not received mail.
I've found that 125% zoom is sufficient for reading mail without the need to scroll across, on a 15 inch screen.
This will vary according to your needs.
I once set someone's screen through Windows accessibility settings, but it became very difficult to view panels, some were displayed outside of the screen area.
Windows screen magnifier panels where it magnifies a selected area are also cumbersome.

Importing new users with plain text password using a csv file does not work

Hello everyone,
I am using csvde -i -f filename to import a number of users and their plain text passwords but it seems
that the "Password" parameter in my csv file is not recognized.

I suggested LDIFDE.exe or you can use the following PowerShell script to import your CSV file, if you have the Active Directory PowerShell Module installed:

Imac can't get past login screen ...New user problem..

Hi,
I'm a new Imac user.
I must have done something while installing my Adobe CS2 suite software. The install hung on disk disk2. The entire machine locked up. I restarted and I now I get up the to Apple login screen but when I click on my user icon with the mouse nothing happens. The keyboard does not seem to respond either. I tried clicking on sleep, restart and shut down, but no reponse. I've powered down, unplugged and restarted ut still no luck. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I like this PC but its so different from my Windows machine.

New user problem with exporting video

Hi there,
I've got a little problem that i'm going to explain
When i export a video, the file's name appears every time at the bottom of the video, it'really annoying and i didn't find how to make it disappear.

Other than a lower-third title being used, I cannot imagine this happening.
You don't have the trial version of PE, do you? It puts a watermark on the Exported movie.

Problem placing text at bottom of page

I'm trying to place a text box at the bottom of my page. While I'm moving it down, a grayish line appears below it, and I am unable to place the text below the line, even though there appears to be a couple of more inches left. Dumb question I guess, but does this mean I can't place anything below that line?
Also, I'm trying to place a text box above a line that I created using insert/shape/line. For some reason I can't place the text box close to the line...it only lets me put it a couple of inches above it?

You don't give much information so I'm going to guess you're using a text box, perhaps in a layout document. Click on the little empty blue box on the lower right side, then click where you want the text to continue.

As long as iMessage is enabled and the old phone is connected to a WiFi access point, it will continue to receive iMessage texts. It won't receive non-iMessage texts nor will it receive any calls.

New user with strange font problem

I created a user account for my girlfriend...when she brought up the safari the google homepage had a strange grafiti font for all the text. (I say strange, but it's one of my many fonts in the collection) I opened up firefox and had the same problem...this morning I realized it was doing it in mail as well. Under my account (the admin and original account) there isn't an issue, but I've looked all over and can't find a setting to fix it for her account.
It's driving me nuts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since it sounds like you know the name of the font, you could try to see if anything turns up with the command below, which searches through user preferences for a given string:<pre>defaults find "font name"</pre>A partial font name should be fine. Enter the command using "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app".
Also, the caches (associated with a user by the 'uid') don't appear to be cleared when an account is deleted. So if a new user is created and gets assigned a previously used 'uid', they may inherit the old cache files. For starters, try clearing out any file or folder whose name contains the user's 'uid', such as the "/Library/Caches/com.apple.IntlDataCache.###" file or the "/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/###" folder belonging to the affected user. Then log out and back in. To determine the user's 'uid', try:<pre>id -u username</pre>

New user can't figure out fixing OCR text

I am a new user of Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 on Mac OS 10.5.3. There's lots I don't know so I hope my problem has a simple solution where an experienced user can say of course, you should be doing this or that.
I am making pdfs from scans of printed articles. The scanner I'm using isn't mine and isn't connected to my computer so I can't scan direct to pdf. So I'm using jpegs, all scanned at 300 to 600 dpi, and cleaned up a bit with Photoshop before I read them into Acrobat.
Everything works great up to the point where I cut in the OCR text recognition. Even though this text is perfectly clean and readable to the eye, the accuracy of the OCR (as determined by copying blocks to a text reader) leaves much to be desired. The Acrobat help file says to correct any errors using the Find OCR Suspects function. But this function is far too unsuspicious - it found no suspects at all in any of these files!
I tried correcting by hand using the Touchup Text tool. To begin with, this didn't work well because the invisible text I was selecting to correct, was *not* directly over the visible text in the bitmap. But far worse than that, after I make 2 or 3 corrections this way something causes the "invisible text" in that entire paragraph to be hopelessly garbled!
Incidentally, my text recognition settings are: Language, English. Output style, Searchable Image (Exact). Downsample: none.
So, what silly little thing am I not doing that I should be?

Is the KIN TwoM able to send texts over 170 characters to other Verizon users?

So one thing that basically all Verizon phones have is Backup Assistant. From what I read, the new KINs are the exception. Likewise, it's nice to be able to send texts over 170 characters as single texts to other Verizon customers. If you try to send texts that are over 170 characters to non-Verizon customers, you'll get an error text back. I just want to make sure that re-branded KINs aren't the "exception" again.
I like this phone on paper, but I'm hesistant because of:
-No Backup Assistant. It's not even the fact that I'd have to sit down and type all my contacts in, but rather my contacts won't be backed up regularly like they are now.
-Some people seem to be having trouble getting the pictures off the phone. From what I understand, the original KINs would save the high-resolution photo to the Studio, and a smaller low-resolution picture to the phone. With the re-branded KINs, is there any way I can get the 8MP picture off the phone? What's the point of a good camera if I can't keep the high-resolution pictures?
-The possible texting over 170 characters issue.

- I haven't messed with any of the uploading to the computer because honestly they didn't give any software. I just downloaded ZUNE to see if I can transfer photos or videos through that, maybe contacts too, but thats highly unlikely.

I have e-mailed a photo as an MMS to my e-mail but it only transfers as a 600x400 pixel image, which is not 8MP. I will try sending a photo to another phone and using a memory card to transfer but that would be annoying and required 2 VERIZON users + a memory card.
-You can text over 170. I have tested this. I am not sure if you can receive over 170 but sending is not a problem.

My computer got hit by lightening, and I may have created a new user account through netinfo rather than system preferences /accounts/+user. Mail used to open twice, but no longer. Now, Safari askes me for my keychain password twice, Spotlight can't find a folder on the computer when the search is restricted to folder and computer, though the folder is there and easyfind finds it, and when System Preferences/Spotlight/Privacy has the hard drive icon added, then deleted, Spotlight still does not find anything. (Yes, everything is backed up, on CD, DVD, and online.) Microsoft Tec Support says

I believe Microsoft. So, creating a new user was easy.
But copying files uses up too much hard drive (movies, music), and may miss keychains, preferences, mail, address book, and documents. Since Spotlight no longer works, who knows what is happening. (Yes, I've repaired persmissions, and disk repair. No change). I'm using up my hard drive trying to move files to the new user. If I share files, or put them into a public folder, then delete the old user, will I still have the old user's files in the new user's account? It is not clear to me what I should be trying to do in order to create a new user, move my old files etc over, and delete old user. Thanks.
My responses will be slow, because I have to drive to town to use the internet. I've ordered a new airport which may take care of that problem. SO be patient.

I need to do the EXACT same thing, but have no idea how. Has anyone out there done this?
My situation is a tad different..this is a new Mac (and I'm a brand new Mac user). Tons of querks occur under my original account (videos won't run, Safari won't support certain plug-ins). I spent 6 hours on the phone w/ 4 different Apple Reps and nobody could fix it. A rep finally looked at my MacBook Pro in person today. He created a new account just to see if that would work and under that new account, everything works perfectly fine (no querks, can view video). He tried switching a million settings in my original account to no avail.
He said to create a new account (as he did) and move my files over to the new account and then go back to the original and delete it. How do you do this?! I can't figure it out! I've got a new account created, but of course it just has the default folders in it w/ the little red icons next to them! Thanks in advance!

Detail: I am having a HTML from, having text box, displayed using UIWebView. If user types in text box it shows the keyboard. Now If user tap and hold on text box it shows a popup menu. Now while keyboard and pop up are being displayed user scrolls the view. At this time it shows pop up over the keyboard which I need to hide.
I tried setMenuVisible of UIMenuController when popup rect and keyboard rect intersects each other on viewDidScroll but it didn't help me.
Any clues will help a lot.

Problem while creating a new user on solaris

I have a SUN ultra machine. Solaris 2.6 is installed on this machine.
I have successfully created a new user in this machine using "admintool"
Problem is I'm getting error messages when I'm trying to update NIS DATABASE.
I'm doing-
#cd /var/yp
#/usr/ccs/bin/make
and the response is----

pushed passwd

Current working directory /var/yp

I had the a similar problem with new users on sloaris 8.
I wasn't able to add new users and change the shell variable while using admintool.
Login back into the console would simply not happen.
All i've been able to find is that changing the users' variable - i.e. .login or .profile to match that of a working existing user (root),
would skip over the problems.
Other variables in the skeleton files were helpful. I suggest you take a look at them.
