Newbie-made animation in graphic symbol timeline by mistake! Can't get it out

Tha't s only one problem...
I am making a very simple stick figure animation which will be intended for tv, specifically HDTV 1080p
I have no idea how i did it but I did the animation and before I knew it it was not on scene 1, but on the graphic symbol timeline. I think it is because I made my character a symbol, and i guess everything followed. But when I put them on the stage from the library, only part of the animation shows up, the part with the character i made into a symbol...not only that, but if I copy and paste all the frames from the symbol timeline onto the main timeline, it is HUGE! it doesn't match the size or placement it was on in the other timeline...
Also, are there any specific requirements for editing with intent for hdtv? I read you can't use movie clips but as for size, etc? What do you have to set at the beginning and what will change when it is exported or converted for tv? I could use Final cut if it helps with the final stuff too.
HELP!

any advice at all? Its urgent

  • Using mathematical symbols in column titles -can't get it to work!

    Hello all,
I am trying to use greek mathematical symbols in my column titles, ( Δ delta, ά alpha etc)
There is obviously some character set conversion problem/I need greek alphabet as the symbols are output as question marks on my JSP pages.
Does anyone know how to fix this please?
(I am setting the label text in the control hints section of the view object editor)
    Thanks,

Include the Symbol you want in the control hint as an HTML encoding e.g δ or δ
Then in the page, go to the JSTL tag that displays the ${bindings[column].label} set the escapeXML attribute to false.

  • Lost Canvas and Timeline windows and can't get them back

I'm new to Apple after many years with Windows. So I'm feeling my way around a bit.
Anyway, I just started using my new FCE, imported my first 60 minutes of home videos, and was getting ready to edit them when I lost 2 of the 4 editing windows - Canvas and Timeline. So I went to the Window command drop down and noticed both Canvas and Timeline were "greyed out". Browser and Viewer were not greyed out and both are working properly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is most frustrating. (I thought only Windows applications had frustrations!)

    Hello...
As Da Nam suggested... double-click on the sequence icon in the browser to open it... this will open the timeline and canvas windows.
If it's another problem.. try pressing control+U to restore to default window lay-out.

  • How can I convert many .png's to graphic symbols at once in Flash CS6?

So, just as the subject says, how do I convert a ton (like over 2,000) .pngs quickly and easily to graphic symbols?
I really dont want to have to drag each one to the stage, hit f8,  and name it, for each one.
I understand that, back in the CS3 days (im using CS6), it would autonatically generate them when you imported them to the library, is there a setting that I can turn on to have this happen?
    Thank you for your time,
    Obsidn

Select the directory with your pngs in it.
    Right-click>Browse with Adobe Bridge
    Select your pngs
Tools>Photoshop>Load to photoshop layers (not sure how many layers this can handle--you may wind up having to do this in batches)
    Save your new psd
In Flash, create a new symbol with a blank timeline
Ctrl-R, navigate to the psd you made earlier
    Select all the Photoshop layers
Check "create MovieClips for these layers."
Convert layers to keyframes or flash layers (not important, since you probaby don't need to keep this symbol)
    OK
You'll have Movie Clips, not Graphic Symbols, but maybe you can write or find a JSFL to convert them and then you can block select them, click the Properties button, and change the type from MovieClip to Graphc.

  • How can I get an SVG file from a PSD made up of Smart Objects?

I have a Photoshop file made up of Vector Smart Objects. How can I get a single vector file from this? I eventually need an SVG file.

You can't. PS doesn't do SVG and even if it did, it wouldn't retain SO vectors in teh way you probably expect it to. That's simply not how SVGs work. You will have to use Inkscape, Illustrator or otehr tools, if you realyl need vector SVGs.

  • I cannot get an animated graphic symbol to be animated in my browser...

    Hello and thanks for looking...
I have followed this animation using bones and armatures tutorial:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/character_animation_ik.htmlhttp://
(which is superb and thanks to the poster)
My problem is that i cannot get them to be animated inside a browser.
I have created the armature and the poses etc. and I have then selected all the leg parts and converted them to a graphic symbol as per the instructions (i have nested the leg symbols inside the 'leg armature' symbol (point 12 near figure 27).  I have connected all the bones fine not a problem...
But if i then look at them in a browser they are not animated, but if i press play inside the little library window it is animated!
So each indivdual armature symbol works a treat in the library window (individually).  However when i save them as whole (i.e. a walk cycle symbol as per point 1 near figure 39) nothing is animated.  I have motion tweened them to move across the stage (so they have the frames to be animated) but there are no animated parts when previewed - the character just glides with no moving parts.
I have re-read it several times and cannot find what i am doing wrong!  It is probably something really simple and i am being dim - it would be nice if you could tell me how   Sorry if this is confusing. My head is hurting again.
    Thanks v much.
(just to note i did select AS3 and i have CS6)

    Dude your a superstar!
I read this and thought i had done that, but it turns out i needed to extend the frames before i converted to the last 'complete' symbol!
(i was half way through re doing it - and gettting annoyed!)
    Thanks ever so

  • Character Animation: Movie Clip or Graphic Symbols?

Should I use Movie Clip or Graphic Symbols for Character
Animation? What do people who make TV shows use. If I'm not
planning on manipulating any symbols with ActionScript and I'm not
using a symbol that requires it's own time line like a walk cycle,
is there any reason to use movie clips symbols? If I put my
animation on the web will it download noticeably faster if I use
graphic symbols instead of movie clip symbols?

What I meant is, there are different ways of setting up a
workflow for Flash animation. Studio animators are trained in
traditional frame-by-frame animation. So their workflow is usually
to do the same in Flash: make every frame a keyframe, then copy and
paste everything from one frame into the next, then make whatever
changes are needed. A classically-trained animator can get a good
    momentum working this way.
But for making the most streamlined SWF files, this method is
not the best. It's much better to rely on library assets, place
major parts or sets of parts on different layers, and only keyframe
those things that need keyframes. If good planning is done in
advance, it can be just as fast as doing straight-ahead keyframed
    animation.
Either method may end up with the same result. But when you
want to go back and tweak things, it's a whole lot easier to do it
    when method 2 is used.
I'm sure I'm not very clear. PM me and I'll send you a list I
created of "best practices" which I give to e-card animators.
One of these best practices is: place a thumbtack on the "G"
key on your keyboard. The very WORST habit that is taught to studio
animators using Flash is to use neither Graphics nor Movie Clips,
but to immediately click Ctrl-G every time they draw something.
This creates a Group. It's faster than hitting F8 and typing in a
name, but it causes ENORMOUS problems, especially when doing
retakes and revisions. And it results in gargantuan SWF files.
I literally GLUED a thumbtack to one one animator's keyboard,
since he seemed unable to remember this rule. Luckily this wasn't
in America, or I'd have been charged with grievous bodily
    assualt.

  • Graphic Symbol First Frame Issues with Tweening

I'm working on some fairly detailed character animations, and accordingly have made most of the characters parts into graphic symbols. For instance, his hand is a graphic symbol which has multiple frames for each perspective or pose of the fingers, and I set the symbol to the proper frame in the characters main timeline.
I've been having issues, however, when tweening these symbols. I noticed this first when I was working on a jump animation and I just wanted the hand, once its pose is in a state which will be used for the majority of its frames, to tween up and rotate with the arm and body. When I create this tween, however, it forces all other frames of that graphic symbol to be set to that same frame. The start and end frames of the tween are set to the same first frame, and even after trying to manually fix the subsequent frames of the symbol, it wont let me. I've triple checked all my symbol names, frame numbers and settings, and anything else I can think of and everything is in place, so I really have no clue why this is happening.
Does anyone know how to fix this?? Thanks for any help!

Are you using new motion tweens with CS4?  If so, then that's "expected" in that new motion does not (yet) support changing symbol frames - only one object and one frame per tween span. You will need to use classic tweens or split the motion span.

  • Frame-by-frame in graphic symbol vs video?

    Hi there,
I have several Flash 8 files with a fair amount of lip
    syncing over approx 300-500 frames.
They are all done as graphic symbols on the main timeline.
Will it reduce the file size if I import the entire file as a
Quicktime video or would putting all the lip syncing into one
graphic symbol on the main timeline make the file size smaller?
I've also heard that exporting as a quicktime video keeps the
lip syncing more accurate vs Flash animation as your lip syncing
will vary depending on ea computer it is viewed on. Any more
    blogs/info on this topic?

You can set a keyboard short cut for the palette menu items for moving between frames in Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts.

  • Setting Frames for a graphic symbol

I'm working on an animation, and I'm using a graphic symbol
with 5 frames of slightly different poses.
Whenever I try to change frames on the main timeline, Flash
will not allow a change. For instance, if I try to change a single
frame from 3 to 1, Flash forces it to remain at 1.
    What am I doing wrong?

somewhere on this layer you have used a motion tween - select
the keyframe(s) that have a motion
tween applied and deselect the Sync option (Properties
    panel).

  • Classic Tweening Issue in Symbol Timeline

    Hi,
To help you understnad the question, I'll start by describing the simple animaiton I'm tryig to create. Basically it's just a conical shaped birdcage that will be swaying left to right slightly as if being blown by a breeze. The swaying will be accomplished by setting the transform pivot at the top of the symbol and animating the rotation left to right, and back to left (to complete a loop)
    Here's the process I'm using:
Using cs5, I brought a .png onto the stage, and converted it into a symbol (movie clip). I then double-clicked the symbol to bring up it's timeline. I put 60 frames in the timeline (which matches the # of frames in the main timeline) with a keyframe at 1, 30, & 60. At frame 1 I use the free transform tool with the pivot set to the top and make a slight rotation to the left. I do the same at frame 30, but I rotate in the opposite direction. Lastly, I copy the keyframe from frame 1 and paste it at frame 60 to complete a looping animation. Finally I right-click the timeline and create a classic tween (on both sides of the middle keyframe).
The problems is that when the animation plays, the rotation is not tweening. Yes, the rotation changes but only ON the keyframe. In-between keyframes the rotation turned into a slight position change instead.
Now, when I follow the same process described above on the Main scene timeline, everything works. The tweening issue seems to only be happening while working on the symbol timeline.
    Thanks.

When you doubleclick the symbol to edit it, you are inside the symbol, on its timeline, editing the content it contains, which is the image you placed there.
What you should do/try is first convert the image to a graphic symbol, such that you see a graphic symbol in the library (you could use a movieclip or button as well, but a graphic will work).  Then do what you did for the image... place it on the stage, convert it to a movieclip, and then doubleclick the movieclip to edit what's inside it (which is now the graphic symbol instead of the raw image).

  • Blur filter on graphic symbols?

I'm trying to export my flash animation to quicktime, but because for some odd reason the normal .mov exporter on flash corrupts the images, I'm exporting to .swf, importing to premiere pro, then exporting again to .mov.  The problem is that .swf import on premiere pro only captures the first layer of the timeline, so I have to use graphic symbols in order to get all the animations out on the first layer.  Now I'm trying to do blur on some of the symbols, but graphic symbols can't have filters, and movie clips won't show up on premiere pro.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can export any number of layers from flash directly to .mov. Select Export and then Export Movie from the File menu. In the Options section at the bottom of the Export Movie window select Quicktime. When you hit the Save button, you'll get a new window for the Quicktime Export Settings. Hit the Quicktime Settings button at the bottom left and set the movie to export to using no compressor and at the frame rate and size that you want. If you have sound, then set the sound to use no compressor. Export your movie. This process may take a long time and will produce a very large file.
Import the finished .mov file into Premiere Pro. Use the compressor in Premiere to make your final QT movie.

  • How do I play a graphic symbol backwwards?

Hi, I'm a flash character animator for television in NYC.
I often have to reuse animation that's in a symbol. Many
times I have to play this animation backwards, but doing so
    requires me to keyframe it.
All the symbols we use are graphic symbols.
Does anyone know a script, plug-in or anything that would let
me play a graphic symbol backwards so i don't have to keyframe it
    but do it automatically?

you cant script graphic, its not valid instance for action
    control, secondly actions
are not exportable to video as upon export it become images
    sequence.
You need to copy paste and reverse frames if you want some
    parts to play backward.
    basically extend the timeline. Manually...

  • How do I play a symbol timeline from the main timeline

Ive created a box, turned it into a symbol called box,
Inside box i have a left to right animation with auto play turned off.
I then went back to the main stage, clicked the box, added action, on click to play, yet it does nothing.
How do i Play the symbols timeline?

On click handler for the symbol use
    sym.getComposition().getStage().getSymbol("nameofsymbol").play();
    or
    sym.getSymbol("nameofsymbol").play();
replace the italics with the literal name of the symbol as it appears in the Elements panel.
Some API details found here (http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/edgeanimate/api/current/index.html) in the Work With Symbols section.

  • Quickest way to work with Alpha'd Graphics on Timeline

    Hi All,
What do a simple Graphics Overylay for a video we are editing.  Basically want to edit a split screen video and over lay a graphic to give it nice branding.
To achiveve this have two layers of video with a Graphic over the top with an Alpha Channel punched out to show video underneath. We are using a Pro-Res Timeline.   The video footage is shot on Canon 5D transferred to Pro Res 422.  Timeline matches those settings.   The graphics overlay will created in after effects have animated into and outro of it.   But majority of time will be stilled.
As I see it this could be achieved by following methods
Exporting an Animation Codec video from AE which can have an Alpha Channel.  Downside is size of files and render times.
Exporting an Animation Code video for animated intro and outro and then using TIFF/TGA for stilled bits .. Upside: Smaller file sizes however there is a colour flick in change from Video to Still?  Is there away round this?
Any other ideas workflows that maximise editing time and reduces render times on the FCP timeline..
We want the best workflow to make finalising the video quickest - we are working onsite and time will be crucial, especially in render a the end and as we go along.
    Cheers
    Rob

Yes thats excellent thanks for the help..
Do I set the timeline settings the same as the Alpha footage or the DSLR footage - eg.   Pro-res  4444 or Pro Res 422?
    Cheers
