Newbie question - "no property of label2 found in the interface"

In the HelloWorld sample application, I added a second label.
Then, in MyController.h, inside "@interface MyViewController", where label was defined as
IBOutlet UILabel *label;
I added a line below that
IBOutlet UILabel *label2;
After doing that, in the Interface Builder, I was able to connect a line from the label to File's Owner and "label2" appeared amongst the selection there, so I made the connection. I figure I did that right.
As far as that goes, the app built and ran ok with no errors.
In MyViewController.m, however, I noticed there was a line:
@synthesize label;
I still don't understand what that means, but figured if there was one for label I ought to add one for label2 as well, so I added a 2nd line
@synthesize label2;
However, if I do that, I get a compile-time error: "no declaration of property "label2" found in the interface.
My questions are:
(1) Why do I get that error if I did, in fact, declare label2 in the interface?
(2) What does @synthesize mean anyway?
Thanks,
doug

Thanks, g.difalco.
Yes, that what was missing. When I added
@property (nonatomic,retain)UILabel *label2;
the compile error went away even with the @synthesize label2 in the MyViewController.m file. Thanks. While looking for "symmetry" with the label definition on the MyViewController.h file I overlooked that one.
Now let's see if I can wrap my mind around the rest of what you said. I am new to Objective-C, but I did read that the "dot syntax" for properties that I have been used to for years in JavaScript is a relatively recent addition to the language.
So you are saying that the @synthesize line allows that new, convenient syntax to be used.
OK. I'll go along with that. I don't know why the word "synthesize" is use for that purpose, but I will let that sink in.
Is there a reason the @synthesize line goes in the @implementation inside MyController.m rather than in the @interface in MyController.h?
Thanks,
doug

  • Newbie question: How do I cange text on the buttons from a template?

    I don't mind when it takes a while to figure out stuff that's really complicated, but it kills me when I can't get something that should be (and I'm sure is) easy. I have my first downtime since getting my Final Cuts bundle and am trying to figure out DVDSP using a menu template to start. I've managed to import all my assets, manage the navigation, change the title, add a slideshow, do looping and linking, and everything plays fine in the simulator. What I can't do is change the names from "Button 1" etc to appropriate names, ie "contact". I'm sure it's something really simple, but I'm not finding it. Any help out there?

    Oh, inspector - text. OK, second time I've posted a question here after working forever on it then found it as soon as I posted.

  • Newbie question... Can I limit the number of users ...

    Can I limit the number of users accessing a URL?
    My company wants to start making videos available on our intranet web site. Once published, they are planning to send an email to all our employees (5000+) to announce the video. That's a great idea... but who asked the network guy if the network (server too) can take the load? NOBODY.
    Short term solution... can I limit the number of concurrent users hitting a URL? And if possible, can I push a message to the users that try once the limit is reached?
    Limiting the bandwidth is an option, but I will trash the user experience.
    Long term solutions besides bandwidth increase? Cashing servers, WAN accelerators...?
    Help !!!

    This is really not a problem for the WSA to solve.  Typically the WSA is used to control content and provide security for external internet content.  The product does not have the feature you describe.
    However, when it comes to the internal hosting of content - since you are using an internal server, that server should be able to control the amount of traffic it servers, number of connections, etc.

  • NO Interface Mapping found in the Integration Directory (Configuration)

    Hi,
    I've got following problem with PI 7.0::
    I have a Mapping Scenario designed in the IR. It works - using test function - there. If I go to the COnfiguration Tool during creating of the Interface Determination it doesn't find the Interface Mapping. The Sender resp. Receiver Interfaces are correct assigned to the Business Systems.
    - Sender Business System is a FTP Server, which contains the needed Sender Interface.
    - Receiver Business System is a SAP R3 System containing the RFC Receiver Interface.
    I had to change the Related Integration Server of the SAP Business System in the SLD. How can I be shure, that my PI System is syncronous with the SLD? How can i get the newest changes - BS, TS or SC - from the SLD updated to my PI?
    Thx in advance
    Michael

    Hi,
    You must make sure that you have correctly identified the interfaces in your interface mapping.
    1. Message Interfaces are correctly configured
    2. Outbound/Inbound Interfaces are correctly declared in Interface Mapping
    Otherwise, your interface mapping would not be found in the interface determination in Integration Directory.

  • Newbie question about saving files

    Hi all,
    A newbie question here, and maybe it is a dumb question, but I can't get my head around this and sofar found no answer in the forums here.
    When I save a file on my macbook, I can only save it to "top" folders.
    What I mean is I try to save a file for instance to documents/worddocs/lyrics just to say something, then I have to save the file first to documents, and the move it to the lyrics folder via finder or move it to :worddocs folder and then move it again to the lyrics folder. Hope you still get my drift here
    Is there a way to just save it to the subfolders without going through all this moving around?
    Thanks in advance for any advice
    Peter

    When you click File>Save As, you will see the Save As window pop up. At the top, you will see a box entitled Save As, which has a space for your to enter the file name. To the right of this box is an arrow pointing down. Click it. The full file hierarchy will be seen. Then you can save directly to the file you want.
    Hope this helps.

  • Writing games for US wireless carriers - general newbie question

    I am a newbie to kvm and j2me so excuse me if these question are very basic or if i'm asking the wrong questions.
    I have been asked to quickly research writing games in java for US wireless carriers. Ideally I'd like to pick a carrier (e.g. Verizonwireless) and find out more about writing for them. How should I go about researching this?
    My research so far has found:
    General j2me info:
    I did some initial searching in the forum and found that the following link will give me a basic guide to j2me:
    http://access1.sun.com/SRDs/access1_srds.html.
    If I look at the documentation for -
    - Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME)
    - Mobile Information Device Profile 1.0.1 (MIDP)
    Is this still the best place to look at online?
    Specific wireless carrier info:
    I had no luck finding where I should look for information on specific
    wireless carriers. Any suggestions? Also am I approaching this the right way or should I be looking at the specific java enabled mobile phones rather than the wireless carrier? Or is it a combination of the two?
    Thanks for any help.

    If the games are going to be networked then you should find out what type of network the carrier has (TDMA,CDMA,GSM with or without GPRS, etc. what bandwidths.... WAP or I-Mode). Regardless, you should be also concerned with what are the phones available on the carrier and what is their Java support.

  • Loading property information list by namespace failed or property not found in the list. Verify that the schema is deployed properly.

    Hi,
    We are facing issue in BizTalk 2010 837 Institutional claim process. The Error is “Loading property information list by namespace failed or property not found in the list. Verify that the schema is deployed properly”.
    We have used Custom Pipeline component to update the promoted property like MessageType. When we drop the XML File in Receive Location it generates the XML file through Pipeline but promoted property MessageType is not updated in Receive Location and throw
    the error as mentioned.
    We have the schema which is not duplicate as well as different version.
    Could you please help on this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Praveen,
    There are two issues here.
    “Loading property information list by namespace failed or property not found in the list. Verify that the schema is deployed properly” issue is normally due to the deployment issues. This more often occurs when you have same schema with multiple
    version and this issue is due to the sequence/order in which these two schemas are deployed. If you run the following SQL query in your BizTalk management db replacing it with your target namespace of the schema deployed
    SELECT *
    FROM bt_XMLShare
    WHERE target_namespace like N'http://YourTaggetNameSpace'
    You shall see two version of the same schema listed and both of them should have Activate flag set to 1. If any of the schemas is set to 0, then you will have the above mentioned issues. This is due to the way the different versions of the schemas are deployed.
    You can undeply both the version, deploy them together or deploy the older version first and the later version later.
    And for another issue of custom property not updating the MessageType property, debug the pipeline component code. This issue has no direct impact to the above issue. If you you’re your Message Type to be updated and if it’s not getting changed, then debug
    the code and check why its not been updated.
    If this answers your question please mark it accordingly. If this post is helpful, please vote as helpful by clicking the upward arrow mark next to my reply.

  • Setting up a cluster for the first time: newbie questions

    Any help appreciated with this situation:
              I'm trying to set up a cluster for the first time and running into
              issues (no big surprise). I'll outline my situation and pose questions
              as they arise. If/when I get things to work I'll post a step-by-step
              summary of what it took to get a simple cluster going.
              Here's what I have:
              machines:
              1 Windows 2000 machines with WL 6.1
              2 RedHat Linux machines with WL 6.1
              All machines are on the same Home LAN, can see each other, etc.
              IP addresses are:
              Windows box: 192.168.1.100
              Linux box 1: 192.168.1.102
              Linux box 2: 192.168.1.103
              servers:
              I've set up the Windows machine as my admin server, and set up
              a managed server on each Linux machine. I created a cluster that consists
              of the 2 Linux machines and deployed the web app and EJB to the cluster.
              The Windows machine is acting as a Proxy using ClusterServlet.
              The web application has been set as the Default Web Application on the
              two Linux machines. All 3 machines are listening on ports 80/443. I also
              set up session memory replication through the console.
              Application:
              I have an application that I package as an EAR file. I'm using it as a
              "reference" application designed to mimic a real world app as much as possible.
              The EAR file contains a web application that uses Struts. It also consists
              of a single Stateless Session Bean. The WAR file and EJB Jar are all
              packaged up into the EAR file. I've been able to run this application just
              fine on a single managed server on all 3 machines.
              The web application works fine, and it can invoke the EJB. I can also
              invoke the EJB from Java stand-alone clients. Struts works great. All is
              well with the world. Now I'm trying to "cluster-ize" this app using
              the environment described above and encountering issues.
              I've read the docs and followed the instructions according to the
              "Weblogic Bible" book. I can bring up all 3 servers and the Linux
              managed servers connect to the cluster just fine. I can also
              see the Struts messages in their logs which normally happens and tells me
              the webapp is initialized properly. The console tells me that the managed
              servers are running. I get no error messages starting up any of the serves.
              Here are the problems I am encountering.
              When I try to access the Web Application (through a browser on the
              Windows machine using http://localhost) I get the following error message:
              <Nov 19, 2002 6:44:33 AM EST> <Error> <HTTP> <HttpServer(1754841,null default ct
              x,admin) found no context for "/". This request does not match the context path
              for any installed web applications and there is no default web application confi
              gured.>
              Also, when I try to invoke the EJB through a stand-alone Java client,
              I get a JNDI lookup error on the EJB's home interface.
              Questions:
              Question1: I noticed when setting up the machines that console lets you
              define a "Machine" or a "Unix Machine". What's the difference? Should I
              define the Linux machines as Unix machines or machines, and what are the
              consequences of either choice?
              Question2:
              I'm not totally clear on how my web.xml should look to set up Struts,
              the ClusterServlet, and a servlet filter I'm using to test Servlet filters.
              Here is what I had before I tried to cluster and which works fine:
              <filter>
              <filter-name>MainFilter</filter-name>
              <filter-class>com.refapp.servlets.MainFilter</filter-class>
              <init-param>
              <param-name>myAttribute</param-name>
              <param-value>Foo</param-value>
              </init-param>
              </filter>
              <filter-mapping>
              <filter-name>MainFilter</filter-name>
              <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
              </filter-mapping
              <!-- Struts ActionServlet Configuration -->
              <servlet>
              <servlet-name>action</servlet-name>
              <servlet-class>org.apache.struts.action.ActionServlet</servlet-class>
              <init-param>
              <param-name>application</param-name>
              <param-value>refappstruts</param-value>
              </init-param>
              <init-param>
              <param-name>config</param-name>
              <param-value>/WEB-INF/struts-config.xml</param-value>
              </init-param>
              <init-param>
              <param-name>debug</param-name>
              <param-value>2</param-value>
              </init-param>
              <init-param>
              <param-name>mapping</param-name>
              <param-value>org.apache.struts.action.RequestActionMapping</param-value>
              </init-param>
              <load-on-startup>2</load-on-startup>
              </servlet>
              <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>action</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>*.do</url-pattern>
              </servlet-mapping>
              <welcome-file-list>
              <welcome-file>index.do</welcome-file>
              <welcome-file>index.jsp</welcome-file>
              <welcome-file>index.html</welcome-file>
              </welcome-file-list>
              (I have set up a "dummy" 0-length file called index.do that triggers
              Struts to go into its ActionServlet when first accessing the web site).
              Here is how I added ClusterServlet to web.xml:
              servlet>
              <servlet-name>ClusterServlet</servlet-name>
              <servlet-class>weblogic.servlet.internal.HttpClusterServlet</servlet-class>
              <load-on-startup>0</load-on-startup>
              <init-param>
              <param-name>defaultServers</param-name>
              <param-value>192.168.1.102:80:443|192.168.1.103:80:443</param-value>
              </init-param>
              <init-param>
              <param-name>DebugConfigInfo</param-name>
              <param-value>ON</param-value>
              </init-param>
              </servlet>
              <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>InitServlet</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>/servlet/InitServlet</url-pattern>
              </servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>action</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>*.do</url-pattern>
              </servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>ClusterServlet</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
              </servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>ClusterServlet</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>*.html</url-pattern>
              </servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>ClusterServlet</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
              </servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>ClusterServlet</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>*.do</url-pattern>
              </servlet-mapping>
              Clearly there is a problem with the Default Web application not being
              seen/mapped properly. Any chances my URL mappings for the filter servlet,
              Struts, and ClusterServlet are stepping on each other?
              With respect to the EJB, here is what my weblogic-ejb-jar looks like:
              <weblogic-ejb-jar>
              <weblogic-enterprise-bean>
              <ejb-name>Hello</ejb-name>
              <stateless-session-descriptor>
              <pool>
                   <max-beans-in-free-pool>100</max-beans-in-free-pool>
              </pool>
              <stateless-clustering>
              <stateless-bean-is-clusterable>true</stateless-bean-is-clusterable>
              <stateless-bean-load-algorithm>
              round-robin
              </stateless-bean-load-algorithm>
              <stateless-bean-methods-are-idempotent>
              true
              </stateless-bean-methods-are-idempotent>
              </stateless-clustering>
              </stateless-session-descriptor>
              <jndi-name>Hello.Home</jndi-name>
              </weblogic-enterprise-bean>
              I run this through ejbc and package everything up into the EAR file.
              However, I get a JNDI lookup failure when I try to access the Bean from
              a standalone Java client running on the Windows machine.
              Here is the jndi.properties file that I am using:
              java.naming.factory.initial=weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory
              java.naming.provider.url=t3://localhost:80
              Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here? I can post config.xml also if needed.
              Thanks in advance!

  • Total Newbie Question ... Sorry :-(

    I know it's a windows thing, and I am now converted to Mac but I gotta know this because it's doing my head in. It's a complete stupid green gilled newbie question.
    When installing new programs on a Mac can you create shortcuts to the programs on the Dock? I did what I THOUGHT it would be, i.e I made an Alias and stuck it in the dock, but on rebooting my Mac later on, in place of the shortcuts where 3 question marks which when clicked on did absolutely nothing???
    Help?

    You aren't installing something from a dmg file are you? The dmg is a disk image – kind of a virtual CD. So when you double click the dmg and then get the little disk/hardrive/custom icon on your desktop that is the same as if you had mounted a CD. You then need to drag the application off of that "CD" into your application folder. Then it is truly installed.
    You can then "eject" the icon your your desktop. This is what happens when you shutdown and without remounting the image your dock shortcut can't find the original.
    Just a thought.

  • Newbie Question. just installed IE7.. how do I set up a local host to preview sites?

    Just define your site in DW as always.  For a static site, that's all you need to do.

  • Newbie Question about FM 8 and Acrobat Pro 9

    Hello:
    I have some dcouments that I've written in FM v8.0p277. I print them to PDF so that I can have a copy to include on a CD and I also print some hard copies.
    My newbie question is whether there is a way to create a  PDF for hard copy where I mainitain the colors in photos and figures but that the text that is hyperlinked doesn't appear as blue. I want to keep the links live within the soft copy. Is there something I can change within Frame or with Acrobat?
    TIA,
    Kimberly

    Kimberly,
    How comes the text is blue in the first place? I guess the cross-reference formats use some character format which makes them blue? There are many options:
    Temporarily change the color definition for the color used in the cross-reference format to black.
    Temporarily change the character format to not use that color.
    Temporarily change the cross-reference definition to not used that character format.
    Whichever method you choose, I would create a separate document with the changed format setting and import those format into your book, create the PDF and then import the same format from the official template.

  • Bean property and public field found with the same name: getid

    Hi all,
    I have a ejb jar file contains some local entity beans and one session bean
    , the session bean has some functions suck as findXXXByQuery() , InsertXXX()
    , and I have created some model class for the entity bean , and use it as
    the parameter or return type of the session bean , then I want to transfer
    the session bean as a webservice , using ant automaticly . All this function
    successfully in weblogic 6.1 , but when I want to run ant command in

    Yes , I have a getid field in table , a getid in entity bean , and a getid

    -=-=-=-=-=-For better or worse the JAX-RPC spec requires this behavior. From
    section 5.4.1:
    "There is no standard mapping for the case when a JavaBean property
    has the same name as a public field. A Java to XML mapping
    implementation is required to flag this case as an error."
    Since you are not the first person to run into this restriction I'm
    beginning to think we need an option to bypass it.

  • Domain name settings - Newbie question

    Sorry for a newbie question!
    I am already pointing a domain name to web hosting for email account. Now, I need an application server to run ERP software and Oracle, and installing Solaris and Oracle need a domain name.
    If I point my domain name to the server, how do I receive emails from web hosting???
    Install an email server to the application server instead? What can I do if I want the same domain name? Any option?

    Setting up a mailserver and making sure it doesn't suddenly turn into a spambox is not something you do with the use of a few commands. I suggest to dive into the Solaris admin guide on docs.sun.com and read up on e-mail and network services.
    If that is asking too much of your time you'll be better off getting your ISP to handle all this for you.
