Newsyslogd.conf 2 entries causes confusion

Seems like Mavericks blew aaway my syslogd.conf file.
Now system.log is growing as the distributed does not include an entry for system.log
I had intended to have system.log roll over when either:
1) it got big
2) at 00:07
I entered:

Firstly, there's no such thing as Apache 9.3, there's Apache 1 (and subversions) and Apache 2 (and subversions). Your error message -
Oracle-HTTP-Server/1.3.28Shows you're using Apache 1.3.28
Secondly, I'm confused by your comment -
I do not have Apache 9.3 or higher but I think oracle should offer this in its companion CDOracle does offer the Apache server, if you're saying you didn't get it from Oracle then where did your Apache server come from?
Thirdly, I notice from your config file -
ErrorLog "|E:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Companion\Apache\Apache\bin\rotatelogs logs/error_log 43200"That you're piping the logs through rotatelogs, are you sure the logfiles haven't just been renamed?

The way I set up my 3 iPhones is to create separate "iCloud" ID's for each user, but then use the SAME iTunes Apple ID for the iTunes store. You'll most likely lose your contacts, Calendars etc. unless you have them saved on a computer. You'll need to delete your current Account under iCloud, then create a new "iCloud" Apple ID ([email protected]) for at least one device if not both (one for yourself and one for your husband). Once you have those set up for your iCloud, then Goto Settings, Store, then change that ID to your old "iTunes" Apple ID, that way you can still both use your previously purchased Music/Apps etc.
You can then change your computers to use the new iCloud ID's and it should upload the data back to the cloud. Just be warned that it might wipe out any saved Contacts/Calendars etc. if you don't have them on a computer as well.
There is a Help article on how to do this as well, but i can't seem to find the link.

Documentation on "Deployment" causing confusion; Clarification needed

I am new to OWB. I have been reading the first chapters of OWB documentation and the following line causes confusion.
"Deployment is the process of copying the relevant metadata and the code you generated in the design center to a target schema."
This is what I understood so far: When design center is used to import/create design objects, it causes relevant design "metadata" to be stored in the repository. The "code" for these design objects can be generated in the design center which would be PL/SQL-DDL code. During deployment, this code(PL/SQL-DDL code) would be used to create database objects(corresponding to the design objects used in deployment) in an oracle target schema.
From what I understood, I did not think that (design) metadata was copied to a target schema. I was only of the opinion that code (PL/SQL-DDL code) was copied to the target schema to create database objects. However, the line in OWB documentation says otherwise.
Please clear my confusion with some clarification. I appreciate all help offered.

"HP34970A Conf Resistance.vi" causes error message -113

I'm using Labview 6.1 to read voltage, frequency, resistance and temperature readings from an HP34970A (with 34902A 16-channel multiplexer).
Every time the "HP34970A Conf Resistance.vi" is completed it causes the HP34970A to display error -113: "Undefined header. A command was received that is not valid for this instrument. You may have misspelled the command or it may not be a valid command. If you are using the shortened form of this command, remember that it may contain up to four letters. Or you may have inserted an extra colon where one is not required.".
The only thing the vi is supposed to do, is to enable the offset compensation, which it is doing (I tested that with a separate program).

here is no help file with the NI drivers for the instrument and I'm new to Labview, I would like to know if someone found a workaround for this. It is kind of annoying because the error message is accompanied with a beep of the instrument every 3s.

I'm using the latest version of the drivers (I installed everything in the begining of Mai).
I wrote a small vi for NI Spy, just a simple 4 wire resistor measurement with "Conf Resistance.vi" at the beginning.
Unfortunately it is my first time working with LabVIEW and the VISA language, and the syntax looks correct for me. ( But I still get the -113 error.)

I'm using the professional edition.In my project I'm using the followin DLLs. While debugging i got another Error:DLL CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll is attempting managed execution inside OS Loader lock. Do not attempt to run managed code inside a DllMain or image initialization function since doing so can cause the application to hang.To this error i found in another forum that i'm using a wrong crystal-dll-version.The FileVersion 9.2.9500.2 doesn't work in VS2005. ITunes Library and ID3 Tags cause confusion

Okay, so this is what happens. I play a song that has Garage as the genre, but right after I double click on it, the genre changes to Other, and the track name shortens. Now, this doesn't happen with every file, but it happens with enough files to get really annoying. And no matter how many times I change it, it will always revert when I play the song.
I have an idea of what's happening, but I don't know how to fix it. My hypothesis is that the data in the ID3 Tag and the iTunes library are different, and when I edit the song tags in iTunes, it is changing the library data, but not the ID3 tag on the song file. I would use an ID3 tag editor, but all of them I have seen do not give access to Grouping and some of the other fields. I also use Serato Scratch Live, which accesses my iTunes music, for DJing.
Is there anyway to tell iTunes that it needs to write tag data to the ID3 on the song? I have searched preferences, but there is nothing concerning this.

YES... this is seriously messed up. It was the same issue in 7.5 and is now obviously present in 7.6. I would guess that many people don't see it because they never do anything with their mp3s after they are in the library, or if they make tag changes they never have to reimport the files. Or they don't care.
I've spent a LOT of time over the past 6 months cleaning up tags, adding details, adding artwork and ripping CDs and now have about 500gigs of tunes in my library. The symptom is the same.. after I've changed or added tags they look fine. If I then bring them into itunes on another mac (this is a shared drive) the edited tags all disappear and revert to either what they were before my edits, or disappear completely. Interestingly (maybe a hint as to whats happening) if I embedded artwork in the file, IT stays, but other tags revert/disappear.
What is the deal here? I can't really see any pattern, some mp3s were downloaded, some were ripped by me, some are CBR others VBR. I have full read/write permissions. MOST of the time I can edit tags and it sticks. its about 10-15% of them that have problems. I've also tried changing the tag to NONE to remove it and then create a new one but that doesnt consistently fix things either. Its either a conflict between the iTunes database and the embedded tags as you suggest or perhaps a conflict between different ID3 versions.
I'd like to hear how other people have got around this... Looks like I've got about 15% of six months of on again off again work down the drain since the tags don't exist in the files (or they're corrupt now).

Upgraded to Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.1 and prior versions still present cause confusion.

After buying Adobe Acrobat X Pro, installing it, I see Adobe Acrobat 8 Provessional and Adobe Acrobat Pro still are listed as "applications". Should these be removed? If so, does using the Acrobat Uninstaller.app allow me to specifically delete each without destroying my Adobe Acrobat X Pro version? I use Mac OS X Version 10.6.8. I would like to avoid reinstalling Acrobat X Pro, but for no particular reason except that things are working so well at the moment. This is what is listed on my computer now.

Before removing Acrobat 8 please check the version of AdobePDFViewer plug-in.
Go to (Drive where OS is installed)\Library\Internet Plug-Ins\ and click on AdobePDFViewer.plugin to check its version. Now follow the instructions below
a) If the version of plugin starts with 10 then
     - Launch Acrobat 8 Professional
     - Go to Help-> Activation->Deactivae
     - Then quit Acrobat 8
      - Trash the "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional" folder
b) If the version of plugin starts with 8 then
      - Go to Acrobat 8 Professional folder
      - Launch the Acrobat Uninstaller app
      - in the browse dialog for uninstall select Adobe Acrobat Professional present in "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional" folder
      - Reinstall Acrobat X Pro

Non-static initializers run after constructors, causing confusion

Here are two Java classes, where class testinit2 extends class testinit1. testinit2 has an initializer and overrides the setaaa method of testinit1. What is surprising us is that the initializer in testinit2 is run AFTER the constructor of testinit1 is run. This means that the call in testinit1 constructor setaaa which actually runs the overridden method in testinit2 is completely blown away by the subsequent run of the initializer in testinit2
In other words we expected the value of testinit2.aaa2 to be "new", but instead it is "old"

But wouldn't that imply that the superclass must know
how its being used? It doesn't know that the method
has been overridden by a subclass. This seems like a
perfectly normal thing to do. I'm not ranting, just
seems like a lot of people could get bitten by this
behavior.Correct, it doesn't know. That's why you shouldn't be calling that method. The point is that you shouldn't make it possible in the first place for subclasses to override methods that might be called whilst the object is under construction.
Sure, people get bitten by this, but thre's not much that can be done about it, so the best they can do is learn from their mistakes.
If the compiler could stop this from happening, then (off the top of my head, without much thought about it, so I might be wrong), the Halting Problem would be solvable. Hence, by contradiction, there's nothing that can be done and we're stuck with it.
Of course, you could carefully document exactly what methods your superclass calls from its constructor, and in what order it calls them, and then you could maybe work around your problem, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it - you would likely be setting yourself up for a fall some time further down the line.
Your best option here is most probably to change your design.

AiCS3: Swatches with various tints causing confusion and extra work

I'm working on a bunch of highly complex infografics (not allowed to post them here) and each graphic has one base color (CMYK). This base color is used in various tints (100%, 80%, 50% etc).
While it's simple to recolor all objects of one Color Fill with another swatch by replacing the currently used swatch (Opt+drag on), it's not that simple with tints. It always applied the 100% when draging a 50% swatch onto another one and then I have to manually select each one and change the tint, so I might just as well create a new swatch for these objects and apply them to each.
As explained the graphics are quite complex and require intensive digging through the layers pallette (locking/unlocking, visible/not visible, Text, Storke/Fill etc.). For example some tints have to be the same as the background. If I want to change them all at once, I can't just change the tint of the swatch, as that only allows me to create a new swatch with the new tint.
I'd love to be able to just change the tint of the swatch and update all objects with that Fill and Stroke. On top of that I often find myself accidently changing the actual 100% swatch after about an hour or two, (not sure how) and thus losing the tie to the objects with the 100% Fill applied.

You are making it more complicated then it is save the View before unlocking or running the action. then when you are finished you select the view and all your layers and objects are relocked assign a keyboard shortcut.
I think you are viewing this from a slant and if you could look more head on you will see that this is not working the way you expect but it is more powerful.
For instance with replacing a global swatch regardless of whether you want the objects color to change or not it changes, there is not way to prevent it. With recolor art you can.
With recolor art you can change art in harmonies so you can see live selections of the relative tones but in different parts of the spectrum, you simply have not looked at the feature.
Hopefully one day it will be a panel and that will make it more appealing to you.
Also your example in 1 that is one of my feature request to have the object assigned a mapping code so you could always get back to the original or assign the code to a new color so it will fill only the object thus assigned.
For instance the live color might automatically assign a tag each color of the original then if you assigned tat code to a color it would be applied to that object(s) the color could be assign to more then one object with a different code as well. This would live update in your art if you need the original colors for the object there would be such a feature even after saving and closing and reopening the art. I think this tagging is the real answer.
If you have a limited number of colors it is really not that big a problem but if you had a lot of colors then the swatch panel is way to difficult and I found if the r t is complicated then you end up changing the color of objects you did not want to change and the even select all same colors did not work because you did not want to do this.
That is why I like to point out that to unlock all is not necessarily something you will always be doing and that live color has more power because you can select what you want to color. The swatch approach is very limited and in the end very time consuming.

IWeb Crashing w/o Any Way to Delete Entry Causing Crash

Anyone had a problem with iWeb constantly crashing. I created a web page it obviously doesn't like, so it won't post it to the web ( a good thing), but I can't delete the page and make iWeb work. Any suggestions?

I don't know if this will solve your problem or not, but try deleting the iWeb preferences file. It is called "com.apple.iWeb.plist". You can find this file on your hard drive in the following folder path: /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/
Delete this file and see if it allows iWeb to launch again. Otherwise, you may be needing to reinstall iWeb from scratch. Please go ahead and backup your iWeb websites by backing up your Domain file. This file is located at /Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/. Since you are already having problems with iWeb, I can't emphasize enough how important backing up this Domain file is. It contains all iWeb information regarding your websites and how to publish them.

Packet drops caused by flapping FabricPath SSID's in MAC entries on N5K.

I have a strange issue in flapping MAC entries caused by ARP replies from the OTV AED for the HSRP vip address. Our Datacenter Infrastructure is build with N7K in the core with 2 VDC's, one for OTV and one for Fabricpath and vPC's. The access layer is build with N5K with Fabricpath between N7K and N5K. Routing occurs in the N7K with HSRP in both datacenters with vlan stretching and FHRP filtering in OTV, so active routers in both datacenters. The N7K is in a vPC domain and the N5K in another vPC domain. The OTV layer is connected via vPC uplinks.Traffic forwarding (when routed) from host connected to N5K is based on MAC entries in N5K for the HSRP vip address. In the sample below you see a fabricpath destination for HSRP vip entries. These entries are build based on ARP replies from the active HSRP router. The entry with SSID=12 is based on a ARP reply from the OTV AED, caused by the proxy-arp nature from OTV. These entries are changing continously for all vlans. Most of the time the SSID =0, but sometimes there changing. When i set up a ping to a host behind the N5K, there are time-outs occuring. At that moment the reply from the host is seen on the uplink to the OTV AED.

I did not found any familiair problems on forums. I want to block the ARP replies on the uplink to the OTV AED, but don't know if there's already a solution for this? So please help!

if you remove "encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip" from the radio interface does it help?
it should remain like this:

Duplicate font in PDF causes prepress RIP failure

I've scanned various forums trying to get a handle on this problem but nothing seems to get at this issue.
A book that we've built with InDesign generates pdfs that show a duplicate MyriadPro-Light font embedded in the document. The second iteration of the font has a different icon and is listed with as Type 1(CID) with Encoding: Identity-H. The Acrobat Pro PDF/X-1a preflight doesn't flag any issues with the file, but when I sent the file to prepress their RIP flagged the MyriadPro-Light font as having inadequate permissions. They were unable to substitute a font or bypass the error. What's more, they were unable to print from the packaged source files I provided - getting the same error. They had to brute-force open individual pdf pages in Illustrator, convert to outlines, generate an eps and place 170 eps pages in Quark to get a file that would RIP.

I've looked for duplicate MyriadPro installations in my XP SP2 system fonts folder and in the common files/adobe/fonts folder. There were duplicates for several MyriadPro fonts, but only the Light variant is acting up. From what I've gleaned, the Indentity-H suggests the font is a screen font or something along those lines.
I moved all the OTF fonts from the common files Adobe fonts folder trying to troubleshoot the problem. I bypassed my FontAgent Pro utility and ensured the MyriadPro OTF fonts were installed in the system fonts folder with no fonts with similar names.
I theorized that pdf and eps graphics placed in the book documents may have a font variant embedded in them, so I went through all the placed vector format files and converted type to outlines. A subsequent pdf export shows the same duplicate font problem.
I'd appreciate help with a strategy to track down the offending font. There are 11 documents assembled into one InDesign book, I'm generating a book pdf from the book dialog window. I've opened each document looking for font error messages and found none. In each document, Myriad Pro Light shows normally in the font pulldown lists and behaves normally.
Some of the document files were worked on via a Mac. As far as I know the same Adobe Opentype fonts were used by that designer. The documents started out in InDesign CS2, but as my collaborator acquired CS3 we've moved the document into the new version.
In addition to diagnostic strategy advice, I'd appreciate information or links to explain Adobe's application font strategy (dedicated font folders in both the common program files folder and so-called "private" font folders associated in the application folder tree). I've seen many threads where this fragmentation of installed fonts causes confusion and I'd like to understand what Adobe's intent is with this separate font management system.
I suppose I should ask this in the Acrobat forum, but I don't understand why this font issue isn't flagged in Acrobat preflight checking.

Therer is absolutely nothing wrong with the scenario of a PDF file having one font subset as regular Type 1 and another as a double byte CID encoded. That is all perfectly kosher per the PDF specification. As such, no PDF/X preflight or any other rational preflight profile will flag this as an error since it is not an error!
I suspect that the "problem" is not that there are two subsets of a particular font, one as a regular Type 1 font and the other as a CID-encoded font, but rather, that there is a problem with the RIP itself not being able to properly deal with CID-encoded fonts. The fact is that CID-encoding has been part of the PostScript language specification for well over 10 years (standard in PostScript 3 and most PostScript Level 2 printers can handle these fonts - even my 12 year old LaserJet 5M can handle them!) and the general PDF specification since Acrobat 4 / PDF 1.3 in 1999 (although Acrobat 3 did support them for CJK Asian fonts).
Note that the scenario you offer occurs not only with InDesign, but with Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Distiller. All of them can yield PDF files that would be a problem for your printer's RIP.
Looks like your printer needs to update their software to some reasonable level.

Clicking on TOC Item Jumps to Previous Identical Entry. How to highlight the selected one?

I have many TOC pages that are identical.
For example, in our software some toolbar icons are repeated on different screens. In the built CHM help, if I click on a later identical page reference in our TOC, the TOC automatically jumps focus to the first entry. It doesn't stay on the selected entry.
This causes confusion as all of a sudden the user is in an entirely different context. How can I get it to highlight the selected item and not jump to the first reference?

Note that this issue is generically related to any help system and isn't a "RoboHelp specific thing". When multiple points in a Table of Contents reference the same page, how is the system supposed to determine exactly which TOC node is the correct one?
The way past this is to create multiple distinct nodes from the TOC to the topic.
One way involves never creating an actual link from the TOC to the topic. Instead, create as many distinct topics as you need in the TOC and have them redirect to the desired topic. The bottom line is that the correct page is presented and the correct TOC node is highlighted.
Another way involves a similar approach. Create distinct topics that simply present an inline frame (IFRAME) that has the single "real" topic.
Yet another way involves another variation. Create a Snippet that is essentially the single entire topic. Then create distinct topics that only contain the snippet.
