Nightingale and system font settings

Dear All,
I have been using the Nightingale music player recently:
http://getnightingale.com/
mainly because it seems to be the only one able to deal with the "album artist" tags in my mp3 files in a satisfactory way. The big problem for mr is that Nightingale does not seem to respect the system font configuration when it comes to subpixel hinting, and thus it look out of place on the desktop. This link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1171900
Talks about Songbird, of which Nightingale is a fork, and suggests to compile it with the --enable-system-cairo flag. The problem is that adding this to the nightingale.config file in the PKGBUILD has no effect. Looking at this spec file for the OpenSuse package:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/view … 1587932567
It seems that I have to add the option to the config file for xulrunner, not to the one for nightingale itself. The config file mentioned in the spec, however, does not exists in the current source of Nightingale.
Does anyone know where the option should be put, or, in general, how to force Nightingale to respect the system font settings?
Thank you
  Valerio

Thanks for your answer. I did. However, I cannot change anything about the font rendering there, only the font type, the siye, etc.

  • [SOLVED] How to reset system font settings

    HI All,
    In my efforts to get decent looking fonts, I have somehow ended up with a system where the fonts are always sub-optimal no matter what I do.   I installed DejaVu-ttf and also the Infinality font set.
    I'm not sure how Infinality is supposed to work, but the impression I got from reading instructions is that it is a drop-in replacement of the system fonts, but now that I have mucked with things too much I'm not sure I'm seeing the best result I can get.
    Is there a way to just reset my KDE font config to the default (hopefully without resetting my entire desktop)?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Thank you Boohomil,
    I set up the .Xresources with the code you included, but even if I xrdb it directly, I cannot see the xft stuff in the output of env.  Not sure what's wrong with that.
    However, I set up everything else the way you recommended and things are looking a bit better.   I actually have messed with the KDE font settings, but following cfr's advice, I just set everything to Liberation as in the xml code.
    For some reason the fonts look much better when I run Gnome than KDE, which bothers me immensely.  I moved to Arch because I want to learn to have control of everything, but it looks like I'm kind of stuck on the fonts!   No worries, I'll keep chipping away at it as I have time.
    Thanks a lot,
    Chris

    First of all, I'm not sure what your KDE font settings look like. I believe you've left everything as is, so open your control panel and duplicate the values from /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-base-rendering.conf in the appropriate section. This should include hintstyle=slight, antialias=true, subpixel order=rgb, dpi=96. You may try using hintstyle=full if necessary.
    Next, check your xft settings. You should see the following:
    $ env | grep Xft
    Xft.antialias: 1
    Xft.autohint: 0
    Xft.dpi: 96
    Xft.hinting: 1
    Xft.hintstyle: hintfull
    Xft.lcdfilter: lcddefault
    Xft.rgba: rgb
    If the output is different, put the values above to your .Xresources file and make sure it gets loaded with your desktop. This should basically duplicate the values you have already set in your KDE control panel.
    Next, check if your fontconfig settings are loaded properly. Simply run 'env | grep INFINALITY' and if you get a list of entries starting with INFINALITY_FT_, then everything is OK.
    Finally, try changing your default fonts. DejaVu is fine as a backup family, but using it as a base one is not a good idea. If you have access to Win 7/8 fonts, use them. If not, check Liberation, ChromesOS or Droid families. Install them all and set the defaults in $HOME/.config/fontconfig/conf.d/65-latin.conf:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
    <fontconfig>
    <!-- ## serif ## -->
    <alias>
    <family>serif</family>
    <prefer>
    <family>Liberation Serif</family>
    </prefer>
    </alias>
    <!-- ## sans-serif ## -->
    <alias>
    <family>sans-serif</family>
    <prefer>
    <family>Liberation Sans</family>
    </prefer>
    </alias>
    <!-- ## monospace ## -->
    <alias>
    <family>monospace</family>
    <prefer>
    <family>Liberation Mono</family>
    </prefer>
    </alias>
    </fontconfig>
    If you are going to use Windows fonts and don't want to change anything, you don't need this file. By the way, you can find it along with other examples in the infinality-bundle documentation.

  • How do you unmark the Rely on System Fonts settings to automatically created virtual printers in Citrix?

    Hello!
    We have an application that requires the Rely on System Fonts box to be unmarked.  I already unmarked it on the Adobe PDF printer on the Citrix server however this change does not roll down to the automatically created adobe printers in Citrix.  How can I roll down the change?
    Thanks

    Steve,
    Thanks for your notes. To follow up on your response.
    Bummer. I kinda had a hunch at this inDesign limitation.
    I have been aware of the method for setting up of a security policy within Acrobat. While this feature does cut down some of the work involved in creating and applying password policies to pdfs, what I am looking for with Acrobat is to apply the same password policy to every document I save from the app. Automatically. Without having to manualy select a policy.
    I think my solution will have to lie in me creating some sort of script to help support this need. I don't think Acrobat Pro X has the capabilities to allow me to tinker with, say, creating a save PDF preset that will allow me to automatically apply a password policy.
    PS. I am using acrobat pro x.

  • Code Page and System Local settings v regional settings

    Hello All
    Can someone please clarify exactly what the system local settings are. I thought they are a total of the keyboard settings, plus the decimal formats and the currency signs. However this looks to be part of the regional settings when you check in control
    panel.
    Also what is the significance of the code page settings. Again I cannot get a clear answer I thought these were language settings defined on the operating system. That are defined at the system level.
    Many thanks

    If you are looking for the difference then here you go:

  • When you create a PostScript file you must rely on system fonts and use document fonts

    I got this error:
    "When you create a PostScript file you must rely on system fonts and use document fonts. Please go to the printer properties, "Adobe PDF Settings" page and turn OFF the option "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts."
    This strikes me as bad practice. I only want to use system fonts and document fonts will muck me up.
    That being said, I could not easily find a way to fix this with Acrobat Pro XI. I opened Control Panel (Windows 8) and found the printer and mucked around in the various ways to get to change the PDF settings (there are several ways, and some of them present the choices as bold and not just regular). I found two separate switches for "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts" and turned both off, BUT that did not work.
    Frustrated, I went back to FrameMaker and clicked File > Print Setup and then for the PDF printer, Printer Properties. There I found a THIRD instance of "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts" that was set differently than the other two. This was the setting the error message meant. Change this one.
    Thanks for the convoluted UI, Adobe. What a pain, but there is the answer for all who follow after....

    > Windows 7 and Frame 7.2.
    This is not a supported configuration and probably does not work, due (I'm guessing) to driver API changes from XP to Win7, which would affect generating PDF and Ps output. This would affect Save-as-PDF and Print-to-Ps+Distill (unless you have a newer version of the full Acrobat product).
    As it happens, I'm going to attempt something similar: FM 7.0 on Win7 64 Pro. However, I'm going to install that old FM in "XP Mode".
    XP Mode is a 32-bit virtual machine running actual Windows XP inside Win7. It is (now maybe "was") available for Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional and Ultimate (but not Basic, Home or not-so-Premium). When XP went off support life earlier this month, Mr.Bill may have taken down the ability  to download XP Mode (or not, since some large enterprises are able to  purchase continued support for XP at some great cost). XP Mode never was supported for Win8. There are other VMs for Windows available.
    If XP Mode is still available, you also need a CPU that has hardware virtualization, which all recent 64-bit AMD processors do, but which is fused-off in many low end 64-bit Intel processors. AMD processors need a separate unobvious hot-fix patch installed before you do anything else about XP Mode.

    What font is used as the default LabView System and Dialog font on a Windows system?
    Can I use the default system and dialog font in another software (i.e; Win word or Illustrator etc.)

    For Windows XP, the font is Tahoma. I don't know if Windows has a method for changing this (I thought it would be in the display settings, but couldn't find it). Maybe in the registry?

  • System wide font settings

    I am a websdite designer / developer and I am noticing that I may have accidently hit a key combination that has changed my system wide font settings...
    I have a co-worker, same hardware / software and my browsers render my code different. Same browser, same versions, etc.
    It seems my fonts a slightly larger, etc.
    Can someone please direct me toward the system settings to fix this? Ive checked my settings and have yet to come across anything that
    seems like it has helped at all. Its every browser for me, safari, chrome, firefox, etc.
    I have checked 4-5 other mac computers and all render properly.
    Thank you

    I found the issue.
    The site I built is rendering RALEWAY from google fonts... but since i have Raleway installed in my fonts, in my font book, its using my computer to render the font rather than google fonts for some reason. I disabled my raleway font in font book and now it renders properly...

  • Hi i upgrade from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am getting no sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever

    Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
    I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.

    Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

  • After removing system fonts and reinstalling fonts, FireFox will not start

    After removing system fonts and reinstalling fonts, FireFox will not start! When I start FireFox the "Mozilla Crash Reporter" opens as if FF just crashed??? I don't see any records in event viewer. I am using FF v3.6.3 on a Windows 7 box. I tried uninstalling 3.6.3 and installing 3.0.18 and had the same problem!

    The files with submitted crash report ids are inside the ''submitted '' directory, from the directory you found the LastCrash.txt timestamp file.
    The file names will begin with '''bp-'''
    There might be more information from the crash report, but it might just tell us you are crashing the first time Firefox tries to use a font.
    One thing I suppose you could do is select only those fonts you've got in Tools -> Options -> Content -> Fonts and Colors -> Advanced and then uncheck the '''Allow pages to use their own fonts''' option.
    See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+Content+panel#Fonts_Dialog
    To be honest, I can't find anything on this Netscape Font Navigator and it sounds highly dubious.

    I downloaded Tinkertool.  Found the font section and increased the size of most selections.  The only thing that changed that I can see is the window label.  The apple line, bookmarks line, the tool bar in safari are all the same---font size of about 4.  Found the finder "show view options" but that didn't seem to change anything either.  I'll keep working.  Restarted all apps after changes as well.
