  • No audio device is installed says volume mixer

So suddenly one day the audio on my system just disappears. Little white x on the speaker icon on taskbar, mouse over it and it displays my current audio device and volume 0. Open playback devices and all are enabled and "working". Open volume mixer and "No audio device is installed". In device manager, all audio devices are installed with current drivers and all are "functioning normally". I don't quite understand this contradiction...
Two days later, after searching through hundreds of forum threads and finding that this problem is actually fairly common, I still have not found a solution. This is what I have tried:
Obvious first step for me was to reinstall the audio drivers. No success
    2) Uninstall ALL audio software and drivers, reinstall everything from manufactures websites. No success
    3) try to restore to an earlier configuration. Guess wht, NO RESTORE POINTS. No success
    4) Stop/Start Windows audio service. No success
    5) Open BIOS set up screen. Can not find any audio options at all....(No success)
    6) Download windows Vista service pack 2 (yes, I am running vista), try to install, but every time I try it gets hung up on "Preparing your computer" and stops responding. Yes I have tried to download it multiple times from Windows download center and have also tried to run without saving. Since it never installs, No success.
    7) Download a "fix" for a similar problem arising after waking a system up from hibernation (KB9296850). Didn't  match my problem exactly but thought it was worth a shot. Again, every time I try to install it gets hung up on "searching for updates" and stops responding. Again, downloaded multiple times, run from location, all from microsoft. No success
    8) Desperation setting in. Insert system restore disk. Doesnt work. Tells me its only for use on Acer system. Guess what I AM RUNNING AN ACER SYSTEM. No success
    9) Still have a copy of Windows XP. Insert and boot from the disk. Try to format the HDD and install Windows XP. For some reason does not work. Try multiple times, Will not install on this system. Cant remember the exact error code it gives me. No success
    System Specs:
    Acer Aspire M5620
Intel Core 2 quad CPU 2.4 GHZ each
    Acer proprietary motherboard and bios
Has anyone EVER fixed this problem. I have tried everything, I cant even format my HDD, which I know is not related to the audio problem but still frustrating.
    Thanks

Looks like a real mess. Use the XP CD and boot it up, delete any partitions.
Use your recovery DVD for Vista and then attempt to use that, if that does not work then there may be some hardware problem

  • Lenovo T430 - No Audio Devices Are Installed - I am out of ideas

    Hey all,
Over the last week we have had multiple laptops lose sounds after some windows updates came through.. When clicking on the speakers on the bottom right on the screen and going to playback, recording devices, etc. all we get is a No Audio Devices Are Installed message.
I checked the device manager and there are indeed some problems with the audio drivers as they have yellow exclamation marks, but I can not get them fixed.
I have completely uninstalled the drivers in the device manager, rebooted to let windows try and find a generic driver and I got a failed message after it searched for a while.. I uninstalled again and downloaded a realtek audio HD driver and installed.. That did not fix this issue.
I uninstalled the drivers a third time and downloaded the audio drivers from the downloads section from this Lenovo T430 webpage. I installed them and they seemed to install, but it still has not fixed the issue.
Anytime I try to manually update the drivers I get a "This driver is currently up to date".
What I am seeing still under the Sounds, Video and game controllers section in the device manager is an:
    High Definition Audio Device
    and a
    Realtek High Definition Audio.
Both with yellow exclamation points. If I right click and go to properties, on the first one it shows the driver date as 11/19/10, driver version 6.1.7601.17514.
The properties on the second one are as follows - 9/13/13 version 6.0.1.7040
Any idea on what might be going on and how to fix this issue.. I am at a lose on what to try next..
    Thanks,
    Jeryn

Look for a folder named "swtools" or something like that.  It's a subfolder there.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - No Audio Devices are installed

I have a Vm that is running windows Server 2008 R2. I says there are "No Audio Devices are installed" I have tried everything!!!
    this :
Please launch Device Manager, right click on the sound card and select “Update Driver Software” to check if it can be updated via Windows Update.
    everything!!!
    please help!!!
I am using a VM from AWS

    Quote from irfan H
The error message indicates that the Audio service is failing to start on your computer.
You can try the below methods to fix this issue:
    Method 1:
Run Audio troubleshooter that will automatically diagnose and fix any audio issues. You can refer this article to run Audio troubleshooter:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Playing-Audio-troubleshooter
    Method 2:
    Check the services manually.
I suggest that you check if the dependency services are started and check if you have the same issue.
    a.     Click Start, type Services.msc in the Start Search box.
    b.     Scroll down the list of services, right-click Windows Audio and select Start.
    c.       Select Properties for Windows Audio and set its Startup Type to Automatic.
If the Windows Audio service does not start and you get the error ‘Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start, then make sure that the following services are started and their Startup Type is set to Automatic’
    a.     Plug and Play
    b.     Multimedia Class Scheduler
    c.      Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
    Method 3:
If the dependency services are not starting, you can uninstall and reinstall the Audio drivers. This will reset all the Audio components on your computer.
To uninstall a device with Device Manager:
    a.     Click on start and type devmgmt.msc
    b.     In Device Manager's left panel, open the node that represents. You should be able to find the Audio device under the Sound, Audio and Game controller. Uninstall and then right-click the device entry.
    c.      On the shortcut menu, click Uninstall.
    d.     On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
Once you uninstall the device, install the latest drivers by downloading it from the manufacturers’ website (Realtek).
Note:Make sure that you have the source to install the Audio drivers before you install it. Also create a System restore point before uninstalling the device.

  • X-Fi Extreme Audio PCIe Driver doenst work with Vista - HD Audio Device is installed automati

    Hey,
after trying for hours this forum is my last hope. For about a year my PC worked more or less fine with Vista Business und the Soundblaster Extreme Audio PCIe (if you ignore the not working line in).
But today the driver vanished for no reason. Instead of the Creative Driver an Vista HD Audio Device was installed. I still got sound but the overall sound quality got really bad.
So i tried reinstalling the Soundcard using the Driver CD. There were no error messages but after a reboot there was still the HD
Audio Device. I downloaded the new driver from the creative HP: Same effect. I tried updating the HD Device, i tried deleting the Device. I even tried deleteing the the internal Driverfiles but after that I just got the problem that I had no audio device at all.
I don't think the card is broken because i get sound using the HD Driver.
Has anyone any idea what i can do to fix this

Funny fact: Today, after a reboot, the card worked again... Dunno why... But it does...

  • Upgrade from windows vista to windows 7. No audio devices are installed.

Monitor with built in speakers= HP w2007
    Desktop= HP Pavillion a6050e
Did support chat with microsoft and they cannot solve the issue.
Running the original disc that came with the monitor did no solve the issue. Running it in vista compatibility did not solve the issue either.
Tried to update from HP support drivers for vista and it didn't not solve the issue.
There are no driver updates fround for windows 7 in hp support.
-audio symbol in task bar shows red x
-device manager shows: other devices/multimedia audio control/the drivers for this device are not installed. (code 28)
----when i try to update the driver it says windows cannot find driver software for your device.
    Please help, this is frustrating.

after hours of dealing with microsoft suppor and HP support I got annoyed and tired. I then decided to check out the bios and figured out the solution myself!!!!
when booting computer do F10 setup. Change the audio from auto to enabled. Then the computer recognizes the audio device and installs updates. right click on the audio icon in the taskbar and select playback devices then pick your device.
What a waste of a day..... hopefully this helps out other people and HP/Microsoft needs to put this on their support site.

  • Win XP finds no audio device after installing Audigy 2

After installing Audigy 2 ZS, my Windows XP could no longer identify an audio device. Under Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, clicking on the Audio tab, there is no Default Device for playback or whatsoever.
However, under the Hardware tab, Audigy 2 ZS is visible and seems to work fine. The only suspicious part I caught is that when I check for Properties of Audigy 2 ZS and go down to check Properties of Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM), the status shows "The di'ver is enabled but has not been started." I have no idea how this can be fixed.
The integrated sound card is turned off in the BIOS.
I've tried all possible ways to install, uninstall, install..., but just couldn't get XP to work properly. Any other possible solutions out there?
    Many thanks!

Solved after reinstalling Win XP. Wasted too much time on trying other possible solutions.
Hope other people may learn something out of it.

  • Pavillion g6-2212sa Windows 8 64 bit No Audio devices are installed

    Hi all,
I followed the steps under the HP support site to use the Windows troubleshooting guide to fix problems with the audio:
    http://i.imgur.com/p7BDHqX.png
I updated the driver to the latest driver, audio plays but there are no devices installed
    http://i.imgur.com/IWNVef0.png
Downgrading the driver to the older version doesn't fix the issue either.
I also used the HP recovery manager to ensure I had the original version installed.
I don't have a previous restore point to go back to.
I had BIOS version F.25, followed advice in this thread installed driver
sp55036.exe, and also flashed my bios back to f.22 (which was when around the time I purchased the laptop)
    Any advice/ help appreciated.

Hi, this is my first time here, so your feed back was great; however, I do not like and am trying to take a different route because refresh means my personal setting and other additional softwares that were installed will not existed.
Also, firewall blocks every software, update, or any devices that are needed to be updated, reinstalled, restored, etc.  I have been going through window/systems 32 or 64 and choose the right updating software.ex in order for my system to work.  Refresh will remove all that I had accumulated for softwares, devices, updates to work through firewall.
Do you have another solutions??  It is urgent because my audio device window 8 notebook pc is lost somewhere, and I am not ablbe to find location of the reinstalling audio device.
Look forward to hearing from you,
    K

  • HP pavilion g6 says no audio devices are installed?

My laptops internal mic has stoped working and is now saying there are no audio devices installed? The speakers, and the web cam work fine but the mic has stopped working.

Try installing HP Support Assistant which will automatically download and install drivers/updates:
    HPSA Link:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html
Also, download and install any firmware, BIOS or reinstall sound application from hp.com

  • No audio devices are installed

    Hi everyone,
So there's a white x on a red circle on my volume icon. I've had this problem for about 3 months now and have not found any solution. I haven't had the chance to seek professional help so I figured I'd get some help here.  I've matched the model/type of my laptop to get the needed audio device/codec for my laptops, there were 3 and all failed to download. I tried click on the x of my volume icon, it told me that hardware changes are detected but there wasn't any solution given. I basically searched every solution there is when it comes to not having an audio device and all have failed.
On my device mananger under sound, video games & controllers, there is an exclamation mark on Conexant High Definition SmartAudio hd2. What does that mean? If I do uninstall it and try to download it from here, I know it will fail because that's what's been happening.
My laptop model is dv2550se Special Edition - 64-bit Vista.

Wow, never mind. I totally solved it just now and I have no idea how. 3 months of figuring out. I'm am crying tears of joy right now.

  • No audio devices are installed in recording section.

I have pc win7 ultimate and hd audio device from microsoft... playback is working but it says that there are no recording devices? can you pls explain easiest way for me to record something on my pc?

    Hi,
By default Windows Vista and Windows 7 will not show playback or recording devices that are disabled. To enable Windows to show disabled devices follow the steps below.
    1.Click Start.
    2.Click on Control Panel.
3.Click on Hardware and Sound, then click the Sound icon.
    4.Click on the Recording tab.
5.Right-click anywhere in the box where the devices are listed.
6.Click on Show Disabled Devices so there is a check mark next to it.
7.This displays any device that has been disabled on the computer. If no new devices are found it's likely no device is being found because it's not detected by Windows. If you're having sound issues we'd suggest reinstalling your sound drivers.
8.Right-click the new icon(s) found and click Properties.
9.Beside 'Device usage', there is a dropdown menu. Click on 'Use this device (enable)'.
If the error still prompts, try to open the Recording Audio troubleshooter:
    Open the Recording Audio troubleshooter

  • HP Pavilion dv6000 - No Audio Device is installed

I've done my research to solve this problem, but to no avail.  A solution PLEASE! My only problem with this computer has finally come up, after three to four years. The only thing that I have installed today is a new Itunes update, I'm not blaming apple, but I was fine a few hours ago!  I restarted my computer to install the itunes and my computer comes back with no speakers.  I've noticed this has happed to a lot of Vista people, but I have Windows 7 Ultimate.
I've gone to the device manager and looked for the sound option or (audio, sound, or video controllers) but it does not appear at all nor does it come up under "other options". I have gone to the HP website and tried installing the audio drivers...like (ctrl+v)
""""Either one of the following drivers should work on your system...
    Realtek High-Definition Audio Driver
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45371 .exe"""""
    ---from a worker named Vidya
This driver (Realtek) downloaded and installed, but no effect.  BTW the name realtek is awfully familiar I think this is it and I am getting close, but I can't find it in the device manager to disable and re-enable!!!!
    To recap,
    1) Sound Driver is not in device manager
2)I've tried the above driver and that didn't work
any different solutions?  Please be specific because I cannot follow half of the directions that are already posted...
