No audio on main menu

for some reason the audio i put in for the main menu only works when you go into the chapter selection menu... help please!

Have you tried making a disc image from the file menu w/in iDvd. Make this disc image to the desktop and then use apple's dvd player app to test playback. Does the very same thing happen, or does the iDvd play exactly as expected (including all menus and audio)?

  • No Audio on Main Menu - Please post if you are having this issue....

    Howdy...
I am having trouble getting any audio on the main menu. I can drag and drop audio files (non-DRM) to all my menus, and it shows up in the inspector, but when I preview or burn a disc, the main menu has no audio. All of the sub-menus have the audio just fine, but not the main.
I'm currently using the 'Stretch' theme...
Again, all sub menus work just fine, but the same audio will not play on the main menu.
    Does anyone have a solution?
If you are also having this problem, please post here...
    Thanks...
    Best,
    Ben

I've stumbled onto the reason for this problem. It's because you unintentionally muted your audio for this menu. To resolve it do the following:
    1. Open the menu where you are having audio problems
    2. Click on the drop zone icon to open the drop zones
    3. Move the music (the iTunes music notes) that you've placed here out of the menu box
    4. By getting the music icon out of the way, you will reveal a tiny black sound/audio icon
    5. If you strain your eyes and look real close you will see that there are no sound waves coming out of the sound icon
    6. Click on the icon and tiny black sound waves will appear
    7. You have now "unmuted" your menu
    8. Drop your music selection back into the menu drop zone
    9. You now have sound!

  • Can't get audio in main menu only

Hello, I'm new to iDVD and when I try to add audio to my main menu, it won't playback. The songs I have chosen for the two submenus play fine but no matter how many times I delete and re-add the file to the main menu, it just won't play. I'm importing the tune from iTunes. It's not the song because any song I try to add to the main menu won't play. Argh!

OK, I have a question - when you all are talking about using this for work and for projects... are these for internal presentations and such? Because if you are selling them, say as video or photo projects, that does seem like violations of music copyright and exactly what Apple is trying to stop with this crazy authorization business.
I don't mean to sound judgmental, but it has just seemed strange as I am reading these threads, of all the people with work projects due and such.
In my case however (and again, not to sound all high and mighty), I am using iLife just as Apple intended... for home movies of my kid and I burn exact 3 copies of it, one for us and 2 for the grandparents... and this iTunes restriction is ridiculous in those terms. If they were to place burning restrictions, they should have done it similarly to the CD burning, where you could only make a limited number of copies and such.
I am so so so so so so so disappointed.
And going back to iLife 06.

  • No Audio at main menu page

    Hi,
I authored a DVD. All sub menus have audio-background "Revolution-Extras".
The main menu page shows as Audio "Revolution-Main" but no sound is played, when playing the DVD and the main menu page is coming up.
How can I add the audio to the main menu page?
    Thx
    Joerg

What version of iDVD are you using?  The iLife 09 version is the same as iLife 11 since iDVD hadn't been updated since iLIfe 08.
All you need to do is apply the three updaters available here: Apple - Support - iDVD 7  No need to upgrade to iLife 11 unless you need the newer iPhoto or iMovie.
The audio well pane is brought up by typing Command+i after clicking once in the menu:

  • Continuing backing audio from main menu to sub menus?

    Hi.
I've never created a DVD before, but have got the general hang of iDVD. The only thing I seem to be having trouble with is having continuous music through all my menus. I have dragged and dropped a song to the top level which plays in the background ok, but as soon as I navigate to a sub menu it stops playing. Is there a way to just have the same song on loop no matter which menu I am in?
I'm using iLife 11 if that makes any difference.

If you are asking if you can have one audio playing continuously from one menu to the next.....this has been asked many times, and I still don't understand why it is an issue. When a viewer inserts your DVD disk to select to play your movie, an audio track plays and loops because no one knows how long the viewer will keep the menu on before making a selection...on any of the menus. You can add the same song/audio file to each menu and submenu so the same track plays, but you cannot make the audio consecutive from menu to menu.

  • Shuffle songs from the main menu includes audio books

When I choose Shuffle Songs from the main menu - audio books seems to be included in the shuffle list. Is that how it's suppose to be?
Yes, the audio books are tagged as such and do not appear in the song list when i browse it manually.

    Hello there,
Not sure if that is the way it supposed to be or just one of those little quirks that hasn't been worked out yet by Apple.
This may be the case, but you can set these tracks to "skip when shuffling" in iTunes so that the next time you hit Shuffle on your iPod, these tracks will not be played. To do this, locate the songs in iTunes, right->click on them and choose "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. From there head over to the Options tab and make sure there is a tick mark next to "Skip when shuffling." Then hit OK and sync the updated changes to your iPod.
Sort of a work around for now, but I hope it helps.

  • Audio missing from main menu?

I don't know what I did, but there is no audio playing on my main menu! It does not matter if I change themes. I have audio on the submenus and slideshows. What can I do to get my audio to play on my main menu again!
    Kevin

itunes volume control DOES control the volume of my external speakers
which are attached to a ProSonus FireBox.
Website links with controls of audio DO control the volume of my external
speakers which are attached to a ProSonus FireBox
However, the main Mac MenuBar sound control slide bar does not control
the sound itunes or these websites AND the MenuBar sound control slide
bar does not control either my internal or external speakers.
Sound Control panel Input Panel is set at the PreSonus FireBox (0260)
device with mic setttings at mid level and the master output volume set
about 1.5 units up with "show volume in menu bar" box checked and Mute box clear of checkmarks.
The Sound Control Panel Output panel is set at Presonus FireBox (0260)
with the master output volume set at 1.5 units with "show show volume in menu bar" box checked and Mute box clear of checkmarks. Controlling the slider
from the Sound Control Panel DOES control the slider in the Mac MenuBar
    but not the sound.
The fact that sound is coming out of the firebox indicates sound from itunes
and web site sound links IS being redirected from the internal speakers to the firebox and then the firebox is redirecting the sound to the external speakers.
However, the volume control at the mac is not sending out a lower
signal to the firebox or the firebox is not responding to the lower signal
or something else has control over the volume control.
There are two clues. The volume control of itunes DOES work and the
manual control of the Firebox is working.
Another interesting observation is that the "Sound Effects" panel of the Sound Control Panel does appear to work correctly; the alerts are supposed to
work through the internal speakers (as the drop down list box is selected that
way) and the Master volume does limit the alert volume. But I find it interresting
that the Master volume is coupled to the internal speakers when the Master Volume should be coupled to the firebox (and then through to the external speaakers).

  • Main Menu Audio - Multiple tracks play randomly aka shuffle?

I've noticed in Inspector that I can at least add more than one track to the menu audio section, but is there any way to designate the music to play on shuffle, so that each time the main menu loads (or each time the disc itself is loaded) that it doesn't always play the same menu audio?
    Thanks!

I'll take a crack at this. Is this going to also going to randomize the menu on startup as well, or just after a track is played and ends? (And while on the thought, is this also going to randomize if someone hits "Menu" during the middle of playing a track?)
Usually it is best ot to start immediately with a menu, something like a track with 5 seconds of black works well, but then send the end jump to the same script. You can also assign the menu command for tracks to jump to the same script. Take a look [here|http://dvdstepbystep.com/trackmarkers.php] (press F3 key to get the general view), and highlight the track and you will see menu commands for the track and each marker in the track. Set the menu to go to the script....

Export the slideshow out of iMovie via the File  ➙  Share ➙ File menu option as a 480p Quicktime movie.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Changing the volume of main menu audio

I was also wondering if there is a way to change the volume of the audio I placed in the background of my main menu page in PE4. Once I originally created the menu (from a template), I can no longer access/modify the song I placed in it. Thanks again.

    1.  Wen you say I shoudl locate my Menu Audio file, do you mean by serching the folders? I cannot find its location within my PE file when it's open. In the same way, I do not know how to actually change the file to another one from within the program. Perhaps I can only view it by searching for it on My Computer.
When you added the link to the Menu for Audio, how did you locate the file then? That would be the same place to look now.
Personally, I would Open that file into Audacity, or other Audio editor, make the changes there, and then Save_As, maybe sticking "menu" in its name, so you'll know that it is a different file. Back in PE, I would un-Link the Audio from the Menu, and then just re-Link to the one with the attenuated Volume. Also, you will want the Duration of this Audio file to be no more than 30 sec. (I think that is the Duration for both Menu Audio and Motion Video in PE).
How can I make the menu audio fade in and out. I assume I can't do that in PE (as I can with all other background music in my project that I see in the timeline). Do you suggest Audacity for this as well even before I import it into the project's menu?
This can be easily done in Audacity. It might even have a Preset for doing a Fade-in/Fade-out. I usually use Adobe Audition, or actually PrPro (PE's big-brother), as I often do DD 5.1 SS for the Menus, as well as Videos. In PrPro, I just create a new Sequence, something that PE does not have, edit the Audio only, as needed, and then Export as a DD 5.1 SS AC3 w/ the SurCode DD plug-in encoder. Though Adobe Encore, the authoring program that I use, has no limit on the Duration of Menu Audio (or Motion Menu Video), I still keep it to only about 30-40 secs, as I assume that the user will make a selection by that time. Also, with the repetitious nature of the music that I choose, and their Fade-in/Fade-out, if the Menu is up longer, it is not noticable that it has repeated.
I use music from a company, SmartSound, and a plug-in that works with PE and PrPro, to "create" custom music from their pieces. I've marked about 12 pieces that have the characteristics that I want, and will use one of the SmartSound variations on these. I also use a bunch of their music for my Soundtracks. Though it's not a plug-in, their SonicFire Pro 5 is amazing with what it can do with their Strata Multi-layer Series of Music.
It seems that their free plug-in comes with PE7, as well as a few pieces from their library. If you do not have PE7, the plug-in is free and works with about any flavor of PE, or PrPro. The music is not free, but over the years I've built up a significant library, whenever they have a sale.
    Good luck,

  • Audio wont play on main menu

Help, I can't get audio to play in the main menu of my IDVD. But it works fine in the submenu. Any ideas?

    Hi
    a. Audio won't play - most common problem is that audio used comes via iTune and DRM-protection silence it.
In iTune collect needed audio into a new PlayList and burn this out as an Audio-CD .aiff (not .mp3). Use the files from this CD in Your projects.
    b. Where does it not play ?
    • On the burned DVD in any DVD-Player
    • On the DiskImage in Your Mac via DVD-player tool
    • In the iDVD application
    c. Can it be so that You use .mp3 or other audio file format else than .aiff 44.1kHz 16-bit (or 48kHz 16-bit) ?

  • Background Audio on the main menu

How do you change the volume on the main menu of background audio?

Using Chuck's recommendation, I find that about -6db to -12db is a good starting point. Be aware that different audio editing programs use slightly different db scales and that all VUE meters are not the same. Experiment until you find the "sweet spot" and jot it down someplace. That will be your starting point for other Audio, however only listening will get you exactly what you want and need.

  • Want to lengthen audio loop on main menu

On the main menu, my Drop Zones loop after about 30 seconds (the max for that template). That's fine. But the song also loops at the same time. It sounds not so good.
Is there anyway to lengthen the audio loop? I don't necessarily care if the video loop is altered.

Is that what is constraining my audio loop to 30 seconds?
In that case you'd be limited to the very tail end of the video so yes this could hold you down to 30 seconds or less in practice. The solution would be to move the start point /slider a bit forward to allow for a longer video loop. Hope this helps & good luck.

  • Back button returns to the movie, not the main menu

I created an iDVD with a main menu of three options: 1) Video, 2) Photo with audio track, and 3) Photo with audio track.
When I watch the video option and hit the "back" button, I return to the main menu. Perfect. But when I'm in either of the Photo/Audio pages and hit "back", I return not to the main me menu (which is what I want), but to the video.
Why is this happening and how do I correct it? Thanks!

I am a bit confused. When you say the "back" button, do you instead mean the "Menu" button?
Normally the back button would jump you back to the last chapter. If there are no chapters in your movie, then the back button would just back to the default first chapter at 0:00. In other words, back button should restart the movie from the beginning.

  • Audio changes for Menu themes

The menu themes in Premiere Elements 12 do not allow a change to the volume on the preset music scores in the Main Menu page; or allow for a change-out to another music choice on the presets for the "Scene Selection" page – how do I do those two things?
The menu theme I selected for my video is SCREAMING loud and prompts the viewer to quickly turn down the volume, but then they have to crank it back up to hear the video.  I converted a VHS tape to a DVD video and then I added photos at the end for a wedding project.  This sound thing is driving me nuts every time I preview it and does the same thing on the DVD when I burn it.
All of the tutorials I've checked, and the manual, show how to alter the pictures, but absolutely nothing about the audio needing to be corrected.  :-(
