No background color on pop-up text labels in dock

Something strange has happened to my dock. Normally when I mouse over an icon, text appears above it saying the name of the program. The text is white on a dark gray background. Recently I have noticed that the dark gray background has disappeared, leaving only white text. In some cases this makes it completely unreadable depending on the position of any open windows. I have looked in the preferences pages but I can't find any option to change the background color for the pop-up text.
Note that I don't have any customization programs installed.
Any help is appreciated.

Try using a web safe color (one of the 256 colors shown in
the pop up palette in Dreamweaver) color # 7dabef is not in that
group. By the way, it doesn’t show up in Netscape either.
This limitation kind of stinks, but ot’s something we
have to live with, and you need to get used to the limitations if
you want to publish for multiple browsers and monitor setups.
However, I could be wrong… since a test of your color
shows up in a table background in all 3 browsers… and it
shows in all three browsers when set as a page property…
So… setting the background color in CSS (using your css
file unaltered) shows the color in EI, but not FF or NS… so,
I’m learning something here as well.
So, ok… took everything out of the style sheet except
for :
body {
background-color: #7dabef;
And your background shows up in all the browsers… so
now, to figure out what is conflicting with it…
Thanks Bash... I was working in that direction, and you
jumped in and fixed it...

• Query regarding changing the background color of an input text

Hi,
I want to change the background color of an input text component.When I tried with the back-ground color inline style, it changed the color of the label instead of changing the background color.Is there any way I could do it?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
use the contentStyle property (or skinning af|inputText::content if you want to change this in one place for all input text fields)

• How do you change the background color & font in a text-only popup?

It has been ages since I did this and I can't seem to remember how. I tried to edit the style sheet but it only has options to change the text-only popup hotspot/link and I need to change the background color and font style within the popup itself. Tried Adobe's help but it had no answer for me. Any one out there know how to do this? I am running RoboHelp 7.

By Popup do you mean a link that when clicked causes a separate topic to be displayed in a seperate window (popup) or Drop Down text?
For Popups that are displayed in a new window then the font and colour is changed in the topic that is displayed. Simply open the topic and change colours / features as required
If you are using drop down text and confusing this with a popup then the font and colour is changed when creating the drop down text. Right click the text and select Font to change colour etc.

• Icon Text Background Color

I would like to be able to change the background color of the icon text labels on the desktop in OS 9.2.2. The default color (white) looks strange on some wallpapers. Is there a fairly easy way to do this?
Thanks very much,
David

HI, David -
The highlight color (tint) can be reset easily via the Appearance control panel, but the non-highlighted (normal) tint for the filename's background color is a different thing.
I suppose ResEdit could be used for that, but I don't know which resource it is.
You might tinker a bit using Kaleidoscope - it offers lots of interesting ways to customize Finder's display of things, and may include the ability to alter that.
Kaleidoscope
However, the filename background color is a global setting. Since the vast majority of filenames are presented (displayed) from within an enclosing folder, changing the filename background color to something other than the default will cause it to stand out against the folder's white background, instead of vanishing.

• Default UITableViewCell text label background color

I need a table view cell that just has simple text but with custom backgroundView images when not selected vs. selected. I'm too lazy to implement a custom cell, so I was using the regulation UITableViewCell, setting the backgroundView and backgroundSelectedView. The problem is for non-white backgroundView, when the cell is not selected, the text has a white box around it (the background color of the label containing the text, I assume), which looks horrible. When the cell is selected, the default UITableViewCell implementation takes care of changing the text color to white and text label background to clearColor and the custom backgroundSelectedView shows through beautifully. Is there a reason why the text label shouldn't just have a clear background color ALL THE TIME?? If the UITableViewCell is not customized for backgroundView, i.e., the cell background is white, the clear colored text label is no different from a white colored text label. If the backgroundViews are customized to non-white, a clear text label won't be in the way of the backgroundView showing through.
Does this sound like a good feature request?
How does one submit requests or bug reports for iPhone SDK anyways??
Thanks.

I am having this exact same problem right now. Did you have to subclass UITableViewCell to fix it?
I had the same problem and subclassed UITableViewCell to solve it. I set the backgroundView and selectedBackgroundView to UIView instances I wanted to use and then implemented setSelected:animated: in my subclass.
{code:}
-(void)setSelected:(BOOL)selected animated: (BOOL)animated {
[super setSelected: selected animated: animated];
for (UIView *view in self.contentView.subviews) {
view.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
{code}
Bit bruteforce and as Apple suggests this will impact table performance, but the tables I work with aren't that big and it works well so far.
It'd be nice if UITableViewCell honored backgroundView like it does selectedBackgroundView, i.e. when the backgroundView property is set keep the cell contents transparent.

• When converting word doc to pdf, my images with text only show the background color of the text box.

I have a word doc that I am trying to conver to pdf. I have jpegs with text boxes on top of them on one page. It looks great on the screen but after I convert to pdf, the text boxes only have half the text, the first half of the text box is just white - the background color. If I take the background color out of the text box, the text converts over fine but I need the background color.
I have tried many things here on the print settings, standard, high quality print, unchecking the compression on the images. Any help?

• Report text background color

I have added report text to my post-expression to display voltage test results. I want to be able to change the background color of the report text frame so that only failures stand out in the report. It currently defaults to magenta. Here is an example of the expression I currently am using.
Step.Result.ReportText = Locals.VoltageNames[ Locals.PortCount] + " Voltage High!\nExpected Range: " + Str(Locals.ExpVoltages[Locals.PortCount][0]) + " - " + Str(Locals.ExpVoltages[Locals.PortCount][1]) + "\nMeasured: " + Str(Locals.Voltages[ Locals.PortCount])
Thanks!

Octenol is an natural chemical that occurs naturally as a by-product of plants and some animals that eat a lot of vegetable produce. If carbon dioxide is mixed with octenol, it has been found to be an attractant to several mosquito species. There are other insects such as no-see-ums and biting midges that are also attracted to this scent. It has been proven to be a very effective product, especially for no-see-ums.
Octenol is also a pesticide ingredient that is used to attract mosquitoes and biting flies. It does not kill the insects; it only attracts them. It can be used in combination with other products and devices that do kill them once they are successfully attracted to the device. It is important to be aware that non-pest insects are also attracted and destroyed by some of the devices.

If octenol is ingested, there is a possibility for toxicity. It is not, however, harmful in the air to humans, pets, or the environment. It is vitally important that it is kept safely away from children to avoid the possibility of ingesting. Placement of the attractant and device utilized to catch biting insects should be carefully considered. It should be kept safely away from children and pets.

To be most effective in mosquito control, the attractant should be placed between the breeding grounds of the mosquito and the area where the people are located. There are range limits that the attractant will reach and this needs to be considered in the placement of the trap as well.

• How can I change the color of the highlighted text when using the FIND function in Terminal?

When searching for text in the Terminal's buffer, the matched text is highlighted using a color which seems to be computed from the background's color. I'm using a black backgroud and the finder's highlighter is grey. How can I change this? I'd like to specify the foreground and background colors of the matching text. I couldn't find an appropriate setting in the terminal's settings, nor in the default settings using the command "defaults".

In my .bashrc file, I have enabled a couple of grep environment variables.
GREP_OPTIONS='--color=always'
GREP_COLOR='00;38;5;226'
The latter is a vivid yellow.
From the shell, I can search my history:

• AS2 TextInput Background Color - Issues when trying to change dynamically

Hello,
I'm having issues changing a TextInput background color after the initial onLoad using AS2.
On load, I have no issues setting the background color with this code:
Code:
onClipEvent (load) {
this.background = true;
this.backgroundColor = 0x1E1C1C;
However, I have a form validator run when focus is lost but yet I cannot set the background color at that point. For example, I'm trying to set the background color to orange and text to white if the field's contents are invalid. Even something simple like this doesn't affect the colors.
Code:
on (focusOut) {
this.backgroundColor = 0xFAA523;
this.borderColor = 0xFAA523;
this.borderStyle = "solid";
this.color = 0xFFFFFF;
this.text = 'Enter your first name';
All code is in actions for the TextInput itself.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Actually, that's not the solution. You need to use setStyle to access the backgroundColor property when the TextInput is already generated.
This worked for me:
this.setStyle("backgroundColor",0x1E1C1C);

Hi,
CSS is interpreted by your browser, so server cache seems unlikely in htis case. There is however some hierarchy in CSS, so parts of the APEX CSS, theme CSS or page CSS might overwright or block yours.
Does changing the CSS on runtime affect your page? Eg, run the following in your browser console and see if your page turns black: $('#uBodyContainer').css("background-color","black")
Also try moving up your css in the hierarchy labeling it as important:
div#uBodyContainer {
background-color:#000000 !important;

• Weird connection "background color of subdiagram label" & "use transparent name labels"

I stumbled upon the following side effect in LabVIEW 2013:
1) Turn off the option "use transparent name labels" in blockdiagram options.
2) now create a while loop
3) show the subdiagram label of the while loop
Because of the changes already discussed here you end up with a WHITE text label on WHITE background.
Maybe I'm "old school" because up to now I liked turning off the "transparent name label" (resulting in labels with a black frame), but a resulting white text on white background on the while loop makes this option now virtually meaningless (I know about the workarounds mentioned in the link above).
Anyway my question:
Why does this connection between the color of the subdiagram label and the option "use transparent name label" exist at all?
Regards, Jens

JuliaO wrote:
I tried all the settings you said in your last post, and I made a screenshot as a "summary" (I attached it to this post).
The changes at "label" when you disable the transparent name labels are in my opinion understandable. But the fact that for "subdiagram label" the background color becomes white and the font color stays white is not understandable to me.
I think it is a bug, and i will clarify how to proceed further.
Regards, Julia
Hi Julia,
that's is exactly what I meant. There shouldn't be any connection between the colors used for the subdiagram labels and the settings for name labels, as the subdiagram labels only make sense with the default settings. Thanks for creating a CAR. Please have a look, that this problem exists in LabVIEW 2012, 2013 and 2014. It is not as annoying in 2012 as the default color for the text in while loop subdiagram label is still black.

• Cfinput=text background color style

I have a CFFORM format=flash and on one of my text boxes I
want the background color of the text box to be either red or green
depending on the value of the text box. If the Balance text box
value is greater than 0, then the background color of the text
input should be red, if it is EQ 0, then the background color
should be green.
Here is a snippet of what I'm trying to do:
<cfsavecontent variable=GreenBkgd>
if(Number(Balance.text) =
'0'){Balance.setStyle('backgroundColor', '##00FF00')}
</cfsavecontent>
<cfinput type="text" name="BeginBalance" value="499.99"
onChange="#GreenBkgd#">
<cfinput type="text" name="amount1" value="0.00"
onChange="#GreenBkgd#">
<cfinput type='text" name="amount2" value="0.00"
onChange="#GreenBkgd#">
<CFSAVECONTENT variable="CalcBalance">
Number(BeginBalance.text) -
Number(amount1.text) -
Number(amount2.text)
</CFSAVECONTENT>
<CFINPUT type="text" name="Balance" label="Unreconciled
Balance" bind="#CalcBalance#" readonly="yes"
style="'backgroundColor', '##FF0000'">
I'm sure there is just something small I've missed, any
guidance would be appreciated!

You could simplify it further to something like:
<cfsavecontent variable="GreenBkgd">
if(Balance.text == 0)Balance.setStyle('backgroundColor',
'0x00FF00');
</cfsavecontent>
<cfsavecontent variable="CalcBalance">
{BeginBalance.text - amount1.text - amount2.text}
</cfsavecontent>
<cfform format="Flash">
<cfinput type="text" name="BeginBalance" value="499.99"
onChange="#GreenBkgd#">
<cfinput type="text" name="amount1" value="0.00"
onChange="#GreenBkgd#">
<cfinput type="text" name="amount2" value="0.00"
onChange="#GreenBkgd#">
<cfinput type="text" name="Balance" bind="#CalcBalance#"

• Selectable mx:Label background color property

How can I change background color of selected text in my mx:Label when selectable=true. Default color is blue.
thanks in advance

Hi,
I think you should use something else for this use instead of Label.That will be better.
But if you want to do this with Label only then the solution is as below.
Create you own Label class which extends Label class of flex.And then use as I hv used it in my application.Below is the source
code for both.
CustomLabel.as
package
import mx.controls.Label;
public class CustomLabel extends Label
public function CustomLabel()
super();
public function getTxt() : *
return textField;
MainApplication

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="vertical"
xmlns:local="*">
<mx:Script>

private function onCreationComplete():void
customLabel.getTxt().background = true;
customLabel.getTxt().backgroundColor = '0xFFFF00';

</mx:Script>
<local:CustomLabel id="customLabel" text="Hello world" selectable="true" creationComplete="onCreationComplete()"/>
</mx:Application>
