No signal for second monitor

I have a Pavilion Elite HPE 340 CH. It has a BENQ monitor which is plugged in via an adaptor and works fine.
I tried to add a second monitor. I unscrewed the small plate and plugged the second monitor into the socket but there's no signal. I tried swapping the two monitors and it is just the second socket which is not ouputting any thing.
Can you help?

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion Elite HPE-340ch Desktop Computer and its MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) Motherboard. According to the specs, the system came with a discrete Radeon HD5570 (2 GB) graphics card thats supports HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort (DVI-to-VGA adapter cable) outputs. The motherboard in your computer has an integrated graphics adapter that supports DVI-D and VGA outputs, however they are blanked off and unusable because of the installed discrete graphics card. These integrated outputs are located between the sound jacks and USB/networking jacks on the back of your computer and are non-functional. Please replace the blanking which you have removed and use the outputs from the discrete graphics card.
Please provide the make and model of both monitors, so that we can determine what is needed to make yuor configuration work for you.

  • Can't get correct resolution for second monitor

I am trying to use two monitors with a Vostro 1400 (Intel X3100 video card), the problem is I can't set the external monitor to 1280x1024. Gnome's screen resolution program only let me choose from 640x480 to 1360x768. Besides the resolution of the second monitor, everything else seems to be working fine. Some relevant info:

    Yes, I tried xrandr:
    $ xrandr --newmode "1280x1024" 65.0 1024 1048 1184 1344 768 771 777 806 -vsync -hsync
    $ xrandr --addmode VGA 1280x1024
$ xrandr --output VGA --mode 1280x1024
$ xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS
At first this didn't work at all, so I tried to mess with screen resolution applet and got output on the second monitor, but not at the desired resolution.
I tried running these commands again and got output on the second monitor, but at the wrong resolution. The strange part is that the resolution I want is listed by xrandr:

  • [Solved] no signal w/ second monitor and dual screen using nouveau, i3

    Hi!
I just brought my old screen to my room and try to make it work. It works when the other one is not connected, so no hardware problems. The result is that I can go to the right and do stuff and move the window to my working screen, but the monitor stays black and says "no signal". I tried a long time with nouveau but without success. I was not able to make the graphic card work with the propretary driver from the website and I don't want to downgrade the xorg-server to 1.12 to install nvidia-96xx...

    Hi!
Thanks for pointing out the repo..I did yaourt -Ss nvidia from the beginning and I didn't pay attention to the nvidia package. Sometimes archlinux is more user-friendly than one expects...
So now my second monitor works. :-)
    Moral of the story:
If you want to use the NVIDIA driver, read
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nvidia
And if it doesn't work, read
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nvidia
again, because maybe you missed something...
    Best,
    Marc

  • New ENVY PC is not sending signal to second monitor. Need a fix.

Hi everyone, how do I get a second monitor to work on a new HP ENVY H8 1420T with Windows 8. As far as I can tell the PC recognizes the second monitor but no signal is received/sent at/to the second monitor. This model has two DVI ports, the second, I presume, both are for monitors. The second DVI connector requires an adapter for the VGA connector from the monitor.
    Thanks for your help

Have you tested if there's a signal if you use only the second monitor at boot up?
And you don't have a additional graphics card installed, right?

  • CS4 - Is there a way to adjust gamma for second monitor or send to overlay?

One thing that is evident when I edit in Premiere CS4 using the AVCHD 1080i 60 template is that the preview in the second monitor, which in my case is my TV set connected using a DVI to HDMI cable, is that the output is too dark compared to what it should be. Darker areas of the frame sometimes even get crushed into black when the same footage, when played directly from the camcorder, or even burned to blu-ray and played, is noticeably brighter and at the right black levels.
This doesn't happen when editing in Vegas Pro 8, or when the untouched footage is played through other video player, including Windows 7 Media Center.
A workaround for this problem can be to go to the graphics card control panel, in my case ATI Catalyst, and adjust the gamma for the second monitor, with the problem being that when you're done editing in Premiere you have to go back to the normal gamma. At one point I had setup two profiles in Catalyst with shortcuts and it worked well, but one day Catalyst simply lost the profiles and noticing how buggy it was I wasn't going to keep creating profiles so that Catalyst would delete them.
So my question is, since it's not in the preferences, is there some settings file or registry address that I can tweak to make Premiere display a brighter gamma of my choice?
And this may be a dead end, but is there a way to send the output of the second monitor to the overlay so that it can take advantage of the graphic's card video capabilities and display video smoothly? It's nice to have a preview of the timeline, but it's rather annoying if I have to go to the Catalyst control panel and adjust gamma before editing and after editing and that motion is jerky and not interlaced when I'm editing interlaced content.

You need the VESA mount option. That way your minimum angle would be completely vertical and you could open it to a negative 10 degrees.
    Hope this helps.

  • Disable Spaces for second monitor

    Hi there,
I wonder if it's possible to deactivat Spaces for my second monitor, because I primarily use it for my chat applications, so I don't have to switch back and forth.
    Thanks in advance

I'm really surprised not more people are talking about this. Apple? You have a solution? Cause right now Spaces is un-usable. I use it on a machine at work and LOVE it! I only need 4 spaces, but with the dual monitor all of the sudden i have 8 spaces of different sizes and it *****.
by the way, that last word that i can't believe apple blanked out is " s-u-c-k-s"

For the second time in about nine months the notebook suddenly cannot recognize my router's
WiFi signal. This time if I do a system recovery I will have to reinstall 50 apps! I am trying to avoid this if possible. I understand that changing the bios settings may fix wifi issue but no idea how this step will affect (delete/save) files. Upgraded from WIN7 to 8 to 8.1. Please help. Thanks so much.

I saw your post regarding the problems connecting to your router.  I will be happy to help you with that.  I will need to know what the product number is for your notebook as there are a number of models in the g7 series.  Try the troubleshooting steps in this HP document Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet.
Here are some generic steps that you can try as well:
Power cycle the network: (Do this even if you have other devices that work properly with the router as it will interact with each piece of hardware differently)
    1. Shut down your notebook.
    2. Unplug the power to your router.
    3. Unplug the power to your modem.
    4. Wait at least 45 seconds.
    5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.
    6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.
    7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.
    Reset the TCP/IP settings:
    1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
    3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.
    4. Restart your PC and test.
    Reset the winsock catalogue:
    1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
    2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
    3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.
    4. Restart your PC and test.

  • Cable for second monitor.........

Hi- I am using a 24" Samsung but also have a 15" Samsung that I would like to use. The cable that the 15' has is a 15pin d-sub and I need it to go to the ADC plugin on my G4 Mac. I am having trouble locating a cable to do such a thing. I can find plenty of cables that go from/or to ADC and DVI. Does anyone know where I can get such a cable? I really appreciate any help with this! It's a Samsung SyncMaster 570V (15"). Judy

You need the ADC to VGA adapter
    <http://www.mac-pro.com/s.nl/it.A/id.230/.f?sc=2&category=128>
Note: the ADC to DVI adapter, followed by a DVI to VGA adapter won't work because most ADC to DVI adapters don't pass the analog video signals needed for VGA.
All ADC adapters are becoming scarce because the connector is no longer being manufactured.
If you can't find the ADC to VGA adapter, and your 24" display is DVI, you could use an ADC to DVI adapter for the 24" display, and connect the 15" display to the other port (with a DVI to VGA adapter if it is a DVI port). ADC to DVI adapters seem to be more common than ADC to VGA.

  • Adobe Second Monitor Bug

I have a 2013 Mac Pro with an Apple Thunderbolt Display as my main monitor and a Dell 4K monitor as my second monitor. I have created a workflow under the Window menu that puts the palettes where I want and the timeline is on the second, 4K monitor.
None of the Adobe apps (CC 2014) on my Mac are capable of remembering where the palettes on that 4K monitor are supposed to go. When I launch the apps, the palettes are all over the place and I have to manually reset them. Selecting my saved workflow doesn't move them to where they are supposed to be.
So this happens in Flash too.
I've tried the solution I read about making sure the monitors in the Display preferences were arranged so that the bottom of both monitors is exactly in the same spot. No difference. I also made sure that the Spaces option was unchecked about separate spaces for second monitors.
Just seems like a bug with the way all Adobe apps are behaving on 4K secondary monitors.
Oh yeah, ever app I have has a menu bar on BOTH monitors, except Adobe's apps. Is that the way they are supposed to behave or is this related to the bug I'm describing?
    Thanks!

    I have OS X 10.10.3.
In Flash, it brings up the timeline on the second monitor way down at the bottom of the screen. I have to drag it back up to where it's supposed to be every single time. Even thought it's saved as a Workspace, etc., it's not sticking.
    Thanks!

  • Need help/advice for XB270HU monitor. G-SYNC does not work. Monitor Flickers. No signal.

I recently bought this Monitor and have been having constant issues with it. Before I start, here are my specs.
    GPU:GTX Asus Strix 970
    CPU:i5 4690k @3.5GHz
    RAM:16gb
    OS:Windows 7
All my drivers are up to date, and in the NVidia control panel G-Sync is turned on. However while gaming I still get horrible stutters everytime the FPS fluctuates even a tiny bit even going from 140FPS down to 90 FPS. I was under the impression that changes to FPS it would remain smooth down to 30/40 FPS? Not so at all. There is no difference between this and my old monitor besides the fact that it can go up to 144hz.
Secondly everytime I turn on the monitor, it goes black and says no signal and then proceeds to launch at 800:600 resolution, flicker black, 1920:1080, flicker again and arrive at 2560:1440. Sometimes it wont ever receive a signal and my second monitor will turn on instead and take place as primary monitor.
It is plugged into the Display port and is secure, as far as I can tell the chord is in good condition.
And finally sometimes during gameplay, ableit rarely, I get random flickers of black screen for half a second here and there. When this occurs it happens about 3-4 times and then stops. Worrisome!
Part of me hopes that I have a terrible, broken and faulty monitor and could get a replacement. Because then I wouldnt try to justify why I spent nearly $1,000 dollars before tax for this thing. But then the other half of me would not even want to get a replacement because of how big of a let down this one has been. I'd rather just never have bought this one at all and have my money back.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated. If anybody has had similar problems please speak up!!

    Booserbob,
If you are willing, I would like to see about having a new Display Port cable sent out to see if that resolves it. If it does, I would be interested in obtaining the cable you received with the monitor, I have been trying to get one from a customer having this issue with no success as of yet. If you are interested, send me a PM (private message) with the following information and I will get to work on it:

How can i use my smart TV as a second monitor for my Power mac (2010) via HDMI cable? i've made the connection but no options show in system prefs display.
    the computer:Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.9.5), 2 x 2.66 Ghz 6-Core intel Xeon
    the TV: LG Smart tv

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
    • at Startup
    • at wake from sleep
    • when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
    • when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences

  • How to use Macbook Pro 17" as a second monitor for iMac?

I have a new iMac with Lightning connector and USB. And I have a Macbook Pro 17" with Firewire and USB. Is there a way to connect the Macbook Pro to the iMac and make it into a second monitor for my iMac?

Your welcome, wish I had better news. You may want to look over Apple's FAQ on the subject (Target Display Mode) you can find it by clicking http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3924

  • How to use an iMac as a second monitor for an iMac

I have two 21.5 inch iMac's (late 2009) and I want to use one as a second monitor for the other. I have a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort connector but when I connect it to both computers, nothing happens. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong once they're plugged in or if I have the wrong cable all together. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Not going to work, the ONLY 2009 / 2010 iMacs that supported Target Display Mode were the 27" models, 21.5" models simply will not work. Please read Apple FAQ on TDM and you will see I am correct.

While Neil is correct, Screen Recycler's performance is not that good so the user experience probably will not be worth it.

  • Can I use My Ibook G4 as a Second Monitor For My Mac Mini G4

    Hi
I wonderd if theres any way of being able to use my 14'' Ibook G4 as a second monitor for my Mac Mini G4? I already have a Samsung SyncMaster 913n. Is there any way of doing this by firewire using both monitors, if not what cables would I need?
    Thanks

There is a application called Synergy which you may find useful. It allows the keyboard, mouse and clipboard to be shared across computers, and even different operating systems. It's not strictly what you have asked for as each computer still runs it's applications (and operating system) separately, meaning you can not drag windows between the screens, but by allowing you to copy and paste between the computers, and seamlessly slide your mouse and keyboard input between them you may get the effect you desire. Oh, and it is free and open-source, so why not give it a whirl?
You will need to connect the machines with a TCP/IP network, which can be done either with an ethernet patch cable, or alternatively as you suggest, using FireWire - these two articles may assist you in setting that up: IP over FireWire in Panther and Tiger.
As a point of note, a commercial program, MaxiVista allows exactly what you are looking for under Microsoft Windows.
    Hope that helps.
