Non-SMP kernel needed

i've been trying to compile a kernel 2.6.x.x without success. The Arch stock kernel comes with SMP, but it's giving me trouble with my wireless NIC.
does anyone have a PKGBUILD or package with a 2.6.x.x kernel without SMP?
Thanks.

thanks guys for your help. i'll look at the cvs now. (i just woke up).
my NIC info is here:  http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=13761
SMP is an issue because it is noted on the driver project forum website.
Bernardo, Sure your not running a SMP kernel ? Thats the problem 99.9% of the time. Just thought I would check
running an SMP kernel freezes the system with this driver. I ran Ubuntu and Gentoo to test them and they work perfectly. that's because their stock kernel didn't run SMP and I never had a freeze up.
btw, i'm not running ndiswrapper. there is a driver available for the kernel.
UPDATE
I went to the cvs and I found this. It's the same issue that I've had with other PKGBUILD's. for example, in the AUR, there is a patched kernel with swsusp2. I downloaded the PKGBUILD, the patches, and then i run makepkg -n. however, if i change the .config file by disabling SMP, the whole makepkg process is mixed up. i've tried different ways of inserting my .config into the makepkg process, but everytime it rejects my changes and defaults to the stock .config kernel file. so i always end up with a SMP=y option.
on the .config at the cvs:
CONFIG_BROKEN_ON_SMP=y
how can I change this during the make config process?

  • Rt2500 driver PROBLEM - SMP kernel

    hello,
    EDIT
do any of you have a PKGBUILD for a kernel without SMP - or a package? i'm having troubel with compilation.
    Hardware: Sitecom WL-115 pci sold in holland - http://www.sitecom.com/products_info.ph … 3&grp_id=6
    Driver: RT2500 - http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com
    The issue is this:
    1.) the computer boots perfectly
2.) network is activated with the ESSID
    3.) network deamon works
4.) after 5 min. I lose connection to Access Point, connects to another Access Point (the wrong one)
    5.) Immediately crashes
I have a wireless router at home of the same brand as the NIC. there are people with other AccessPoints somewhere around here because I detect 2 more. I can't connect to those obviously, and I dont want to anyway.
In gentoo and ubuntu, if my card lost the connection to the Access Point, i would have to go to the network settings and change the ESSID back to the correct one. That was it, it didn't crash or anything else. The driver was compiled in gentoo through portage, and in Ubuntu I compiled it myself and installed it myself. It is the same driver as the one I'm using in Arch Linux.
    This is what I tried:
    1.) Change mode to Ad-Hoc
2.) Forced to register to my AccessPoint with the 'ap' option in iwconfig
    3.) restarted daemons
    4.) dmesg says nothing
    None of this helps.
    UPDATE
i learned what the problem is, except i still need help.
I'm running Arch 0.7 . i haven't updated anything. i haven't done pacman -Su so everything on the system is still from the ISO image. however, i dont understand why the kernel that is installed with the iso intallation contains a SMP kernel! i dont have a SMP cpu.
because of conflicts with my wireless driver, i need to disable SMP in my kernel. how do i do that? if I update my kernel will it still be SMP? do i need to compile the kernel on my own?
i'm asking with without trying it because my computer is freezing since the NIC is connected.

syg00 wrote:Have you tried just passing "nosmp" from the bootloader  ???.
Let those that can't live with it turn it off, leave it in for everyone else.
That does not work. It is the SMP build that freezes rt2500. I use a custom kernel (one vanilla, one vanilla+suspend2) with Preemption, no rt2500 trouble here.
As for rt2x00, you can not expect it to finish for a long time, they started the third rewrite recently, and it probably won't be the last one due to the kernel wlan stack cofusion (ieee80211 vs. softmac vs. hostap vs. another one). The current rt2x00 rewrite is based on softmac, if that one doesn't go to the vanilla kernel, there will be another rewrite and it will take more time ...

  • System copy : As Java : Non-unicode kernel Option not available

    Dear All,
we are performing AS Java system copy to create a new system , same SID , same HOST and same Configuration except OS is upgraded.
    Susle Linux OS - 11 SP3
    As Java Nw 701
    kernel version -
    NW701 - Kernel 721_Ext - Non_unicode - 201 patch level
We have successfully completed export and now we are importing the same export in new server, now while performing taget installation we are not getting option to install NON UNICODE kernel , except it is only asking for UC Kernel 7.20/7.21.
Current version of system is non-unicode and we will like to keep it that way.
May I know is non-unicode system copy option is not available? is it removed ?
and if we want to install non-unicode then how we can perform that ?
Can we install target system using UC kernel and later just perform NON-unicode kernel upgrade, will this work?
    Has anyone faced such concern?
    Guidance will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Bond

    Thanks for  update RB.
We have tried this method as in we stop SAP and sync file systems and perform DB/Backup restore method. This method works but unfortunately I am not able to find any SAP relevant document to support this method for so called "java" systems.
SAP only suggest to perform system copy for "java" hence we are trying via export import. Currently I am looking into options of using old master installation software.
although, can i request you if you any SAP relevant note or kba or any other in which SAP support/suggest we can perform file system copy and db restore for "Java" systems then it will be just a thing which I need to go ahead with method you suggested.
    Thanks , kindly update.

  • Urgent: Installing SolMan 4.0 Non-Unicode - Kernel DVD trouble

    Hi all,
I have a problem here with the Kernel DVD's.. I am installing SolMan 4.0 non-unicode on Solaris 10/Oracle 10. When I am asked to provide a path to "Kernel NW04sSR1" media, I provide the path to media number 51032262 (SAP NW2004S SR2) which is the closest I get.. On this DVD, there is a folder called KN_SOLARIS_SPARC with contains a LABEL.ASC like this:
    <b>"SAP:AKK:700:UKERNEL:SAP Unicode Kernel 700:SOLARIS_SPARC:CD51030xxx"</b>
The label that is requested by SAPinst is "SAP:AKK:700:UKERNEL::SOLARIS_SPARC:"
Is this not the correct DVD that I am providing?
    Please help!
    Best Regards,
    Thomas Kjelsrud

    Hi,
I have the 51032263 DVD, which contains both the unicode and non-unicode kernel.
We have decided to go with a unicode installation of SolMan 4.0, but still I am having the problem with SAPInst requesting the Kernel NW04sSR1 DVD.. In my DVD-kit I only have NW04sSR2 kernel DVD.
When I try to specify the exact CD (KU_SOLARIS_SPARC) within the DVD I get this message: "You entered /tmp/d510302263/KU_SOLARIS_SPARC Unable to find a LABEL:ASC at location >< (Look for label SAP:AKK:700:UKERNEL::SOLARIS:SPACR:"
Please help, who can I contact as SAP with this issue?

Image size, mime type.. non-java guy needs help
Im not at all familiar with java so this is really weird for me to work out. I?ve been doing it all day (and half of yesterday).
Im trying to write a custom clodFusion tag in java that gets the width, height, size and MIME types of a given file. I?ve been trying to get it to work on the command line first. I can get the width and height but cant get the size and the MIME type.
    Here is what I got
    /*import com.allaire.cfx.*;*/
    import java.awt.image.renderable.*;
    import javax.media.jai.*;

  • Target system install problem (SAPINST searching for Non unicode kernel)

    Hi,
I'm currently performing a unicode conversion (from 4.7 to EHP4). I am finished with the upgrade and I'm now in the unicode conversion part.
I have completed the export and selected unicode as the target system. I am done with source system uninstallation and I'm now installing the unicode target system.  I have selected unicode during the parameter selection (it's the default option anyway) but during the part where it will ask for the kernel DVD, it doesn't accept the path of my unicode kernel (and instead looks for the non-unicode kernel)

    Hi Markus,
Thanks for your response. This problem is now resolved. It turns out that there are some remaining files from the old /usr/sap/<> and /sapmnt/SID/exe that were not deleted yet (after uninstalling for non unicode system). I proceeded to delete again these files and ensure that there are no files from the non unicode system

  • OAS 4.0.8.1 & SMP kernel = wrksf up

Here something I finally figured out, but maybe everyone already knows this.
Running RedHat 6.0, I still couldn't get wrksf to stay up, even with a clean install of everything. But by switching to an SMP kernel, everything things happy.
I saw only passing mention of this while searching the archives, so I thought I'd put it out there. Since SMP isn't installed by default on a basic desktop, maybe this info should be more prominent.

  • How jvm threads works on new Linux 2.6 scheduler with SMP kernell

    Hi,
i'm using Sun JDK Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.5.0_14-b03, mixed mode) to run tomcat,
anyone knows How JVM threads works on new Linux 2.6 scheduler with SMP kernel?
i ask this, because in a single processor machine the tomcat replies more fast than a dual processor machine, maybe the reason is, that SMP load balancing made for new scheduler, slow down the JVM performance for threads? there is a way to avoid this?

bug that have "same" problem: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5038858
    thanks for any insight

    This is bug:
6328462 Linux getCurrentThreadCpuTime() does not match with getThreadCpuTime(currentThread)
    It will be fixed in:
    - JDK 6.0 (Mustang) build b63
    - JDK 1.5.0_07 build b01
The problem is that the HotSpot VM takes the stat info from the file'/proc/$tid/stat'
which is incorrect on Linux kernels 2.6+ with NPTL because this file aggregates
per-process (.vs. per-thread) usage on these kernels.
The file '/proc/self/task/$tid/stat' still has the per-thread usage and must be used instead.
There is also a performance bug:
6200022: JVMTI GetCurrentThreadCpuTime slow on Linux
This bug is about using new Linux posix compliant process clocks (2.6.10) :
    http://sources.redhat.com/ml/libc-alpha/2004-10/msg00117.html
It is too late to fix this in Mustang but can be possible in one of the update releases.
Thank you for posting the question!

  • What does a new non-DE user need? | Help for a Wiki page

    Hey Archers,
I'm using Arch with the Compiz Standalone Window Manager and I need some help for a project.
It turns out (who knew) that computers need a lot more to run smoothly than just a desktop and applications. You need network managers, gtk themes and much much more. Now, Desktop Environments such as GNOME and KDE provide a lot of these programs built-in, good for them, but I'm looking to build my system as dependency-free as I can and the big DE's don't really provide that. Especially GNOME just ropes me in whenever I want to use the tiniest piece of it (darn you gnome-keyring).
So I come to you fora, with a quest for information. I want to compile an overview of essential and useful applications with minimal dependencies that allow a CompizIndy user to build his system freely. And if I get enough information, I want to turn it into its own page for the Wiki so it becomes easier to get started with a birds-eye view of what you need to flesh out your system (not exclusively for CompizIndy btw). So please help me!
What applications/daemons/tools should a new system install? I'm not asking which ones are the best or worst or your favorites, just which kinds do you need --that aren't covered in the install guide--?
For example it's advisable to get:
    Panel/dock
    desktop manager
    network manager
    compositing manager
a tool for managing removable devices (ntfs-3g etc)
    a packer/unpacker
    a screensaver
    power management
    alt-F2 runcommand
    custom keybindings
    a user switch/logout manager
    a volume manager
    etc.
So what do you recommend? What do you need to get up and going?
Hoping to hear from you guys and girls,
    Matthias
PS: if I'm doubling up on anything, please let me know and save me effort and embarassment ^_^

There are many threads on this, although individual ones asking for "the best app to do XXX". You could try searching those. Also Search for the LnF Awards threads. you might find a few ideas there. We also have wiki pages for light-weight applications which might be useful
    Panel/dock  none
    desktop manager none
    network manager netcfg
compositing manager none or xcompmgr (for basic compositing)
a tool for managing removable devices (ntfs-3g etc) udiskie or udev rules or devmon
a packer/unpacker coreutils eg - tar, bzip etc with an alias called "ex" in .aliases
    a screensaver none
    power management ???
    alt-F2 runcommand gmrun
    custom keybindings xbindkeys
    a user switch/logout manager none
    a volume manager see udiskie....
BTW, if this is for you, then simply install Arch and use a non DE based WM --- eventually you will figure out what you are missing

    Thank you for helping me

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Using non-blocking NIO, need Main Thread wait?

I'm trying to utilize the New IO libraries to create a simple url check application. The application just tests return codes to make sure the list of urls I have are still valid.
I'm using the NIO libraries because I had problems with the URLConnection object hanging when I ran into a url where the server never replied. It just sat there waiting for a reply.
Now I have a new problem, the connection to the web server is now in a new thread and I need to wait for the connection to finish before using it. I can't figure out how to make the main app wait for the connection. All of the documentation I find for the Wait() method refers to threads and I can't find how to refer to the main application thread.
    Any suggestions?
    Josh

Ok, this is were I have some gaps in my Java knowledge. How do I wait for OP_CONNECT to fire. Is it like setting up a ActionListener but for a non-visual object?
Also what do you mean when you refer to deregistering it?
You don't need to explain everything. I would be happy if I was just pointed at the appropriate pages and I'll do the leg work.
    Josh
If you're using NIO the connection can be handled in
the same thread as the I/O. Just wait for OP_CONNECT
to fire, deregister it, and away you go.

  • Non-Printable hyperlinks need to be digitally visible

I'm working on a master catalogue system that was developed using InDesign then developed using DPS into an iPad and iPhone application. I am now going through those indd files and relinking the buttons as hyperlinks to other pages to maintain the same type of usability for pdf use on computers.

Sorry I inadvertantly entered the question before I was done creating it; I was actually editing it while you answered haha. Then it wouldn't let me save the edit.
I need hyperlinking objects to be non-printing, but visible on screen. If I store them on a layer and set the layer to non printing, they all become invisible, both print and digitally. If I convert them to buttons that are non printable and hyperlink the button, it doesn't do anything, because buttons are near useless on interactive PDFs.

  • Non-technical user needs help with Microsoft Access/MS-Query connection

I've read through some of the other threads on problems with the ODBC connection from MS Access to an Oracle database but as a non-techie I'm afraid I need to ask based on the steps I have always used. I'm not totally inexperienced as I have gone through the same steps on multiple Windows XP machine running different versions of Oracle and Office over the past 10 years but the steps aren't working this time. If there are settings that need to be checked or changed (path, etc.) I'm afraid I'll need specific instructions as to where I need to look for them.
I'm currently trying to set up a connection on a new laptop running a 64-bit version of Windows 2007 Professional.
    1) I've installed a full 64 bit Oracle 11g client and 32 bit copy of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013.
    2) I set up the Oracle data source using the client Net Manager. I can connect from there.
    3) I added it in the Oracle-provided Microsoft ODBC Administrator and can connect from there.
I the past, after doing this, the was automatically included in the list of ODBC Databases in MS Acess but this time it's not. I tried adding it as a new data source by selecting the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver but receive the same  "The Oracle(tm) client and networking components were not found" error message that has plagued so many others.

This is bad code, for lots of reasons:
    (1) Scriptlet code like this should not be used. Learn JSTL and use its <sql> tags if you must.
    (2) This code belongs in a Java object that you can test outside of a JSP. JSPs are for display only. Let server-side objects do the database work for you.
    (3) You don't close any ResultSet, Statement, or Connection that I can see. Microsoft Access doesn't save any records until you close the Connection.
    (4) You don't have any transactional logic. When you write to a database, you usually want it to be a unit of work that is committed or rolled back together.

  • Non Stock part needs purchasing view?

When I am converting a planned order to a production order I am getting an error message CO071 Purchasing data of material is not maintained.  This is a non stock item.  Why would I be getting this.  Do I need to maintain the purchasing view for this material?  Please advise

    Kimberly,
What I also want to mention is that if your NON stock material does not have any MRP/ purchsing view you can maintain purchasing data in BOM component overview. Once this data is complete you will be able to create production order for material that has non stock item.
Alternatively if your client or organisation is open to changing settings on NON stock material type you can activate  MRP, accounting & purchasing view for this material type. Path for config settings is given below for ready referance
SPRO --> Logistics general --> Material Master --> Basic settings --> Material types --> Define attributes of material types
Then select your material type (copy of SAP standard  material type NLAG) --> Doubleclick . then under user departmants select required views (purchasing view in your case)
I am sure this will resolve your issue.
    Thanks,
    Ram
